MY LITTLE PONY: EQUESTRIA GIRLS—FRIENDSHIP GAMES

Bloopers

Note:        Each of these snippets except the last is followed by a brief flash of a test pattern screen, then a blip of sound accompanied by a flash of white. The pattern consists of a yellow Canterlot High School C in the center, framing a horse’s head and surrounded by smaller circles with the cutie marks of Twilight Sparkle, Rarity, and Sunset Shimmer arranged in a triangle. The marks for Applejack, Fluttershy, Pinkie Pie, and Rainbow Dash are in the corners of the screen; at bottom center is a set of six horizontal bars in the colors of the rainbow, decreasing in length from top to bottom.

The first snippet is preceded by the blip and a longer flash of the white screen.

(Close-up of Twilight using her detector at the pre-Friendship Games welcome party, in the Canterlot High gym during Act Two.)

Sunset: (from o.s.) Twilight. (Grimace; zoom out to frame her.) What have you been up to? (Applejack and Rainbow join them.)

Twilight: Me? Oh, I-I was just, uh… (Indigo Zap leans into Sunset’s face.)

Indigo: Who wants to know? (Rainbow leans into hers.)

Rainbow: Um, we do?

Applejack: (inserting herself between them) All right, everypony.

(Zoom out to frame all five, as well as Fluttershy and Sugarcoat—the next two who were supposed to speak in this exchange—looking on from the fore. Applejack realizes her mistake.)

Applejack: Sorry. Force of habit.

(Smiles and giggles from the others as she clears her throat.)

(Twilight and Fluttershy kneel on the Canterlot High lawn following the Games Academic Decathlon in Act Two. Each holds her backpack; Fluttershy’s is open so a kitten can poke its head out.)

Twilight: Guess I’m not the only one to smuggle her pet into school.

Fluttershy: (laughing softly) Not just one.

(She lets the cat out of the bag, immediately followed by a menagerie of dozens of small animals—including a pig—that leaves Twilight at a loss for words as to just how they all were able to fit in there.)

*****

(The interior of Abacus Cinch’s office at Crystal Prep Academy during Act One, the camera positioned near its closed door. Dean Cadence and Shining Armor stand to either side.)

Twilight: (from o.s.) Shining Armor? (Zoom out to frame her.) Why is my brother here?

Cadence: As an alumni [sic], Principal Cinch thought he could provide some unique perspective.

Twilight: Perspective on what? (Zoom in on Abacus’s imposing desk chair, rotated away from the camera.)

Abacus: (turning to face her) Why, the Friendship Games, of—

(She trails off into a string of surprised yelps when the chair keeps whirling around and around—either pushed too hard or lubricated too well. As it comes to rest, she laughs brightly over the mishap and the camera zooms out to frame her top student doing likewise.)

(Close-up of Pinkie’s feet during the welcome party she has just rejuvenated. They begin to glow and rise off the floor; a longer shot reveals that she has ponied up under the myriad tiny reflections thrown by the newly added disco ball.)

Pinkie: Oooooh! Floaty!

(A twang, a cry of surprise, and the glow vanishes as normal illumination resumes in the gym. She finds herself dangling from one wire hooked to her waist, a second one hanging snapped and useless—special effects to achieve the floating effect—and struggles briefly to right herself.)

*****

(Twilight crosses the upper-story rotunda of Crystal Prep, during her solo song in Act One.)

Twilight:        Beyond these rooms, beyond these wall— (She slips and falls.) —whoa!

(She drops o.s., a thud and grunt marking her introduction to the floor as the music stops, and a pained moan floats up.)

*****

(The Canterlot High lawn again. Animals continue to pour out of Fluttershy’s backpack, and Twilight goggles at the number and variety of them—including a rather bulky buffalo that has somehow joined in. The yellow girl, meanwhile, just sits with hands clasped and eyes tranquilly closed.)

(Fluttershy and Rarity during the welcome party, just after Abacus has ruined it.)

Rarity: Yes, if only that Principal Cinch hadn’t re-freezed it. (catching herself) Refrozen! Frozen it again, much clearer. (pacing angrily; Fluttershy snickers silently) Oh, six pages since my last line, and then there’s this totally shifty line, no costume change, I mean, really! Can I speak to the writer? Is he on the… (suddenly puzzled) …what?

(She puts a hand to her chest as if to say, “Who, me?”)

(The snack table during the party. Pinkie sticks her head up behind it, whisks away its vegetable and cheese trays, and sets her bundle of goodies in their place. When she undoes the wrapping to let it fall open as a tablecloth, she is greatly surprised to find Spike in place of the cupcake trays, having eaten nearly the whole batch and with his gut badly distended as a result. Zoom in as he lets off a hearty belch and Pinkie glares down at him.)

(The Canterlot High lawn, a third time. Fluttershy maintains her serene pose as still more exotic beasts gather around her and Twilight.)

(Close-up of the two pennants to be used in the Games’ final event of Act Three, held aloft by Vice-Principal Luna. Tilt down to her on the start of the next line, speaking into her microphone so that her lines are amplified.)

Luna: Somewhere on campus, a pennant from each school has been hidden. The first team to find their school’s flag and bring it… (trailing off) …back…wins. (rolling eyes, realizing her mistake; zoom in slightly) “Back wins.” (Faint smile; muffled laughter from o.s.)

Voice: (softly) That was really good.

Luna: Thank you, thank you. I am a fro-pessional.

(Sunset dives for Twilight’s dropped detector during the GamesTri-Cross Relay in Act Three, but hits the ground just short of it. She is dressed in her civilian clothes rather than her motocross outfit.)

Sunset: (winded, coughing) Oh, am I getting danger pay for this?

(Rarity hangs on for dear life at the edge of one of the rifts Twilight has torn in the fabric of space-time after her transformation in Act Three. The fingers finally give way, and she drops out of sight, her scream and those of two other girls floating up. Cut to a close-up of her hand, the background behind it scrolling rapidly upward to the blue sky of Equestria and then a blank green expanse. The screams die away as the camera zooms out quickly to show Rarity and two girls “hanging on” to her—one Fleur, the other a Canterlot High student—filming this scene in a studio. All three are standing on a thick cushioned mat before a green screen, and the other two let go of Rarity in time with their lines.)

Fleur: Huh.

Student: Huh. (Next two lines overlap slightly.)

Rarity: Anti-climactic.

Student: That took nothing, really. (Rarity pulls a makeup compact from her pocket and checks herself in its mirror.)

Rarity: Hmm.

Student: (shrugging) Hmm.

*****

(The Canterlot High lawn, a fourth time. Twilight and Fluttershy are now almost totally lost beneath the sheer number, poundage, and cacophony of the creatures that have flooded in around them.)

*****

(Rainbow, in her motocross outfit, rides on the back of her pony counterpart for a soaring flight.)

Rainbow: (raising arms) This is AWESOME!!

*****

(DJ P0N-3 and Lemon Zest stand side by side in front of Canterlot High, headphones socked over ears to enjoy their respective tunes. The former’s music from the Rainbow Rocks prequel short “Music to My Ears” is heard as she bobs her head and the latter thrashes hers and throws the bullhorns. After a few bars, they trade equipment to sample each other’s beats; now Zest bobs and DJ P0N-3 thrashes as the guitar track Zest listened to on the bus ride to Canterlot High blares out instead.)

*****

(The base of the Wondercolt statue in front of the school. As Pinkie walks toward it, an exact duplicate of her emerges from the portal to/from Equestria that it houses. They trade a high five, and Pinkie pulls a lollipop from her mouth and tosses it to Pinkie Two. Pinkie disappears into the portal, while Pinkie Two starts working on the candy and winks to the camera before ducking o.s. Snap to black.)
