>Twilight was buried deep in the library >books, piled nearly to the roof in magnificent towers teetered dangerously around her >every so often, one would be magically tugged free to be referenced >each time, one of the towers destabilized even more >she was furiously scribbling notes while holding several tomes aloft at once >she drew the last book she needed, sending the nearest tower swaying uncontrollably >”Yes! It’s finally ready!” >the spell she was researching was finally complete >it had been lost over the ages, and Twilight had spent the last few days piecing it back together >all she had was various references and vague mentions in several ancient texts >but with some solid research and clever educated guesses, she had managed to rebuild the spell >very clever, if she did say so herself >too excited to wait, Twilight began to cast the spell >in hindsight, it probably would’ve been best to perform some controlled tests first >she had absolutely no idea what the spell would do beyond some rough ideas >but who was she to stand in the way of progress? >she firmly planted all four hooves on the ground >her horn lit up with a purple glow as the spell was weaved >at that moment, the massive pile of books finally tipped over >it came toppling down around her >a particularly large grimoire struck Twilight’s horn just as the spell was cast >the magic flew out of control as she was knocked unconscious *** >some time later >Twilight’s head emerged from underneath a mountain of books >”Ugh, what happened?” >the last thing she remembered was preparing to cast the new spell when everything went black >the spell! >she frantically sped back and forth, organizing the fallen books as she went >she couldn’t see any signs of the spell’s effects >in fact, she couldn’t see any sign that the spell had gone off at all >frustrated and with a pounding headache, Twilight stomped off for some comfort food >as she left her personal study, she noticed movement out of the corner of her eyes >”Great, just what I needed, an infestation.” >she regarded the little scurrying dots with disgust >this was one of the unfortunate side effects of living in a library made out of a living tree >”SPIKE!” >she didn’t have time to clean this up, hopefully Spike could handle it >there was no response >she planted a hoof to her face and sighed >”I guess I’ll have to deal with this myself.” *** >it had been another quiet day at the ponyville library >well, quiet on ponyville terms >Spike was busy milling about, cleaning and reshelving books >Twilight was busy in her study >she had been working on some project or another >there were a handful of other ponies browsing the library >an unicorn or two, a few pegasi and several earth ponies >he was on a step ladder, trying to place a book on a particularly high shelf >it was almost there when suddenly a wave of purple washed through the building >it coursed through all of the inhabitants before dissipating >at first, nothing happened >then suddenly they all felt it >an intense vertigo gripped them all as the world seemed to grow around them >some began to panic, others collapsed on the spot >Spike, unable to keep his balance toppled from the footstool >the book he was balancing fell after him >it landed with a thud and narrowly missed crushing him >all around him, rapidly shrinking ponies were in disarray >emerging from under the book, he belched a gout of bright green flame into the air to catch their attention >”Everyone relax! Twilight is right in the other room, she’ll know what to do.” >that seemed to calm the crowd down >they fell into step behind the baby dragon as they made the long trek across the floor >suddenly Twilight burst from her study >everyone breathed a sigh of relief >everything was going to be ok >she looked about and then down and her face contorted in disgust >”SPIKE!” >Spike ran forward, arms flailing to get Twilight’s attention >”Twilight! Down here, we’re all down he-“ >he didn’t get to finish as a great shadow covered him >Twilight’s hoof hovered over his body >he was frozen on the stop in terror and confusion >”I guess I’ll just have to deal with this myself” >the massive hoof came down with a thunderous crash *** >Twilight saw one of the offending invaders scurry towards her >it even tried to climb up her leg! >she lifted a hoof and stomped on it >one down, several more to go >she’d have to call an exterminator one of these days *** >the gaggle of ponies watched in horror as Twilight lifted one of her legs >and brought it down on the dragon >and then Spike was no more >they stood in shock for a moment >then scattered when Twilight turned her attention towards them *** >the mass of bugs scattered to the far reaches of the room >great, Twilight didn’t have any proper tools to handle an invasion like this >she couldn’t leave and risk having them nest and multiply as well >it would have to be the hard way >she spent the next hour or so hunting down as many as she could find >some she caught out in the open and were dispatched with a quick hoof >others required more creative solutions >she would grip them with magic and drag them to where they could be disposed of easily >there was even a crowd of at least four or five that she managed to get at once! >satisfied that she had gotten most of them, Twilight trotted off to the kitchen >time for that comfort food *** >not many ponies had survived the onslaught >of the crowd originally shrunk, only four earth ponies and a pegasus remained >they had fled towards the kitchen >behind them, they heard the chilling sounds of stomps >each one they knew spelt the doom for another pony >no time to mourn, they worked together to reach the high ground >the farther they could get from those hooves, the better >the five survivors managed to climb onto one of the counters and into a cabinet >perhaps they could reach a window to escape >they were halfway across the cabinet when they heard noises outside >bright light blinded the lot of them as the doors opened to reveal Twilight >she gripped a nearby jar full of bright sprinkles >as the jar dragged its way towards the front, it ran at the escaping ponies >the pegasus was able to fly out of the way but the earth ponies were not so lucky >they were pushed out of the cabinet into the open air >screaming, their falls were broken by a landing into soft ice cream >the pegasus watched as they struggled to pull free >the cold and the fall had momentarily stunned them >she was torn between the exit and escape before her and saving the trapped earth ponies >her head darted back and forth, struggling to come to a decision >”Sorry guys, you’re on your own” >she turned to fly towards the window >she could hear the squeaking protests of the ponies she was abandoning behind her >or at least she thought they were protests >what she didn’t know was that even thought they were trapped, they were trying to warn her >but it was too late, Twilight swung a flyswatter at the pegasus >it struck her but kept its momentum >she was carried in a wide arc towards the counter >the swatter stuck the hard surface with a solid TWHACK *** >Twilight surveyed the damage underneath >”Ick, I’ll have Spike clean this up, wherever he is.” >she took her bowl of ice cream and sprinkles and returned to her study >she deserved a reward for such hard study and thorough extermination of the unwanted bugs >Twilight was so pleased with herself that she didn’t realize that her ice cream had a few extra “sprinkles” >she dug into the ice cream with wild abandon *** >one by one, each of the four remaining ponies were scooped up >until there was only one, a lone stallion >he watched as each of his companions was pulled into their captor’s mouth >each time, their fate was sealed as he saw the undulation of her throat with each swallow >then it was just he that remained >he had managed to survive all this time >be it through luck or something else, he didn’t know >but now, his luck had run out >still stuck in the freezing cold treat, he was unable to free himself >the spoon that had carried away the other three now ran underneath him >voice cracking and sore, he tried calling out for mercy >there was no answer >everything moved in slow motion as he was brought before Twilight’s muzzle >it slowly opened to receive him >the inside of her mouth was dripping with bits of unswallowed and melting ice cream >her tongue flattened to reveal the dark arch of her throat >he passed between her lips and teeth >to add insult to injury, a glob of saliva landed on his head just as her mouth closed aroundhim >”MMM…” >he could hear the sounds of her pleasure echoing in the chamber around him >the spoon withdrew leaving him trapped inside >he didn’t have to remain long before her tongue pushed him and the ice cream towards the back >finally melting enough for him to break free, it was too little, too late as he was pushed into Twilight’s esophagus >GULP *** >Twilight didn’t know what it was but the last few bites of ice cream were especially good >sufficiently indulged, she was ready to go back and try that spell again >maybe it needed more power this time… Fin
