Spooks, frights and the chilly awaited you to enjoy them. Yet, something was missing. You look over your costume and give a small nod of approval before smiling. “Are you ready?” came that familiar voice somewhere within the castle. You call back with an answer and wait. There was something far more to enjoy for the evening than the holiday itself. Though, maybe you should say it was somepony. The echoes of hooves giving their light clacks and clops through the halls sounded out as you sat in the throne room, leaning against the map table. Twilight eventually emerged, smiling sweetly as she gave a little hop to reveal her outfit. There she was. Your little witch. The wide brim and pointed hat were the biggest clue to it, even with the hat itself wilted back. Black cloth draped over her form in a robe along with a small belt to keep it held against her. Everything about her made you smile wider as she eagerly trotted forward and placed her hooves on the table. She seemed just as excited for the night as you did. Her tail gave a few swishes as those eyes sparkled and she looked to you. “Everypony will be here soon! Then afterwards, we can…,” the alicorn said before blushing and letting out a soft giggle. “Maybe we could read together?” As innocent as it was she act so adorably bashful over it. Those purple ears wiggled through the holes in the brim of her hat as she studied a bit and playfully winked. “My favorite vampire ready for the night?” she asks and gives a playful wink. You nod and pat your shirt down. The fake fangs were still sitting atop the table due to how annoying they could feel at times. It was a comfy attire and something that you could easily get around in. No need for a bulky outfit. The cauldron sitting nearby sputtered a low hanging smoke that had slowly tried overtaking the closest thrones. Orange and black streamers were hanged high and decorated the area quite well. Twilight had even managed to transform the colors of the lanterns and flames to purples and greens. In all honesty, it hit home with the comfy Halloween feel you knew so well. With the sun lowering and the weather already much cooler than before, you were quite ready for the event. Twilight worked on finishing up a few last minute decorations before there was a knock at the front doors. You were just about to get up before the small little steps were scurrying around. “I got it!” Spike called out, just as happy to be a part of the festivities once more. There was a moment of silence before the doors creaked open in possibly the most cliché sound you could have heard. Seemed that your purple princess had managed to use sound altering spells for a spooky atmosphere as well. “Darling!” came a very recognizable voice before the sound of many hooves flooded the area. Rarity came rushing in before your mare and the horned marshmallow embrace for a hug. It was rather cute. The outfit that the seamstress had on was something else. Not only did she adorn an extra set of horns that curled forward from sides of her head but she also wore a tight fitting leotard of some sort. The fishnet leggings added to it all. “Rarity! Wow, what are you going as?” Twilight asked, keeping you from inquiring about the more risque looking attire. “Simple, can’t you tell?” the boutique owner teased before stepping back and posing herself. “I’m a succubus~” There were a few snickers at her answer but quickly stopped when she stared daggers at the culprits. Applejack and Rainbow Dash zipped up pretty fast. Noticing them revealed other fun outfits as well. Applejack seemed to be a skeleton mare of sorts. A black onesie with adorned bones all over. Her face had been painted to resemble that of a skull as well. Looked kind of cozy. Dash was pretty obviously the Headless Horse. The costume had a high collar that extended above her head and left a hole for her head to poke through near the front. All that was left for her to do then was just use a foreleg to ‘hold’ it upright and give the visual that was rather straightforward. Looking past them let you see Pinkie in a rather odd bit of attire. There was a crop top, some short shorts, even some work done to her mane. It took you the longest to figure out what she was supposed to be but then it hit. A summer camp survivor from those slasher flicks you used to see. Fluttershy was one that you didn’t even notice until she slowly made her way to the group. You knew the theme just not the character. The pegasus had chosen to dress as a magical girl. Well, magical mare, you guess. The outfit screamed it and honestly looked specially made. Had she done it herself? It did beg the question if she cosplayed but there was little reason to pry. “What’s first on the agenda?” Dash asked, trying to get into her seat while her ‘disconnected’ head looked all over, hoping she wasn’t going to land elsewhere with her flank. “Well, first we got to eat!” Pinkie declared as she hopping into her own throne while wiggling around. “Then there’s the candy, and the dancing, and the-” “Okay, Pinkie,” Twilight said to calm her down. You had taken the purple pony’s own seat but she didn’t seem to mind in the slightest. Instead, she simply levitated a broom with her magic and sat upon it. Directly next to you. She was so close that her hind legs brushed your shoulder a few times from her floating placement. Spike had managed to pass around the cups while you weren’t looking. Little gremlin was certainly sneaky. Those floppy ears would almost smack him in the face if he turned too quick. The ladle in the cauldron lifted with the use of Twilight’s magic before she poured your drink and then one for the others and herself. “Where’s Starlight?” Rarity asked as she sipped carefully at the concoction. “Oh, her and Trixie went out together to set up a haunted house,” Twilight explained and giggled. “That sounds kind of fun.” You give a glance to the witchy pony as she lowers herself on the broom and leans a bit to you. When you take a sip at the drink she watches eagerly and waits. The fruit flavor was surprisingly sweet and just a tad tart. Nothing heavy and it was a nice treat. “Like it?” the broom riding alicorn asked lightly. Nearly confused, you almost ask why she seemed so insistent on it before realizing it. Your sweet pony had made the sweet drink herself. Pinkie hadn’t come by to help at all for it. The various fruits kept it tasting fresh at each swig. Of course you liked it and you told her just that. “Really?!” Twilight gasped and leaned forward, wrapping her soft forelegs around your neck. “Thank you~” The witch hat hanged over you both like an umbrella before she gave a small glance to her friends. They seemed rather busy discussing other topics for a moment as Twilight let her magic pull the hat sideways enough to block you both from view. It was pretty evident what she was hinting at. Smiling, you lean in with her and press your lips against her own. The moment is sweeter than her own drink she had made. There was nothing better than having her affection. Every second of it made you feel that much better about everything. Once she pulled away, though reluctantly, her hat shifted back onto her head before she lightly brushed her nose to your own. That purple snootle was precious and you rubbed back as she giggled and drew away before too much attention was drawn to you both. “You’re the greatest,” she whispered before sitting back on her broom more. There would have been whoops and hollers, especially from Pinkie, but the food was quickly ushered out before any of that could happen. Spike ran back and forth to keep handing out dishes and all as fast as possible. It wasn’t until he was getting the last plate that he stopped by you and smiled. That sly dog. He had planned to keep Twilight’s embarrassment from being too much of a focus this year. You couldn’t help but give the little dragon a fist bump for it. There was plenty of talks about the food now and you couldn’t really deny them. Every bit smelled and looked as good as you had hoped. You couldn’t name it all before the group dived in, Rarity taking a moment to admire it. Twilight lowered herself down before glancing around and looking up to you. Everypony else seemed more focused on their food than anything going on around them. Leaning back, you smile and those careful purple hooves rest to your leg until the Princess of Friendship hops up and settles in your lap. Before you could even look over the brim of the hat under your chin, a floating spoon came up and seemed to wait. Giving a small shrug, you open your mouth and in the spoon went. Delicious. The haunted spoon pulled away as you swallowed the contents before it dipped back down. None of the others noticed or cared. Then an idea crossed your mind. While Twilight tried preparing another spoonful for you, her ears twitched as she felt you shift in your seat. You moved only just a bit to pull her back to you more and placed hand to her chest gently. In a careful motion, you tilted your pony back and cradled her into the nook of your arm, keeping her safely close by. “Oh~” she said and blushed lightly. Her magic tilted the hat back to let you see her face as she watched and tried feeding you more. As new as it was, it was a welcome feeling. Having your loved one offer food for her stallion of choice. Making sure you got the required nutrients and stayed healthy for her. You did just the same, picking up her own spoon and scooping up a nice bit of food. It was hard not to be smiling so much during the whole ordeal. When you went to offer up the utensil, she gave a shy glance before opening her maw. The process repeated a few more times until you both opted to not take so long. Still, it was cute to watch her be caring. The meal went by a bit quicker than usual despite all the food. Every plate was nearly licked clean by the end of it. Pinkie’s actually was. “That was amazing!” Dash commented before letting out a belch that made Rarity scrunch her nose. “Oh yeah?!” AJ said, pulling her head back and trying to one up her friend with such noises. “Ugh!” Rarity sounded out, tilting her head back. The rest laughed and let the commotion die down. It really had been a great meal and filled you up plenty. There were a few talks of what to do next once the food was settled. Going to the haunted house did sound fun but Fluttershy seemed mostly against it. Nopony was going to force her through that. Eventually, it was settled on that all would part ways and do what they desired for the evening. Rarity said she had to tend to her ‘Boo-tique’ anyway. A wide array of costumes decorated her own place. It sounded like Applejack was planning on going to the town square with Dash and Pinkie to play some games and hang out. Fluttershy was actually excited to head home and hand out candy to all the foals on Nightmare Night. You had a sneaking suspicion that she also wanted to show off her costume. That left Spike. His floppy gremlin ears swayed around at the sounds of Rarity’s hooves leaving for the night. Offering to help, she gladly let him tag along and shot you a thumbs up. Chuckling, you give him a nod and listen to Pinkie’s shrill cry of telling Rarity to grab her goodie bag on the way out. While the others said their farewells and began to leave, the tray of bags was nearly empty save for two. Pinkie had made all her friends a bag of treats. Even Spike. Even you. “That was a great meal but…,” Twilight said, leaning back against you and looking up. “Mm, I think we should go out for a bit. Then we’ll come back here and relax~” Sounded like a plan to you. The lavender pony smiled as you agreed while she leaned up and kissed at your chin before hopping off your lap. There wasn’t much in the way of getting ready with the costumes you had. A quick swipe of the fake teeth and you popped them in your mouth before teasing your pony. The typical vampire noises made her giggle as she playfully ran off and waited until you got to the door and opened it. The cool air made you tense up slightly but it was refreshing. Twilight mentioned the haunted house was set up near the edge of town and quickly began to lead the way. As you followed, the sights and sounds of foals laughing and playing filled the air. Many ponies were out and dressed up so many different things. How you missed such things so easily. The two of you cut through town and quickly made a line right for where the attraction was set up. You were almost feeling a little winded by the end from all the running but Twilight seemed happy. Her hat had somehow stayed on during the trip and those little ears swiveled this way and that as she took notice of the extravagantly decorated house. Impressed wasn’t a word that did it justice. Trixie and Glimmer had gone extremely out of their way to dress the whole place up. Cobwebs, lights, sounds, the works. Of course, it wouldn’t be an attraction without a pony presenting it so, now would it? “Mares and gentlecolts!” Trixie announced atop a platform nearby. “Do you seek horror?! Terror?!” “The unthinkable?!” Glimmer chimed in. “Look no further!” they both shouted. “Come one! Come all! Trixie and Starlight’s Haunted Manor!” A pony nearby commented it looked more like a house than a manor before Trixie stared them down. Once they backed away, the blue unicorn took notice of you and your loved one. “Sparkle,” Trixie greeted with a genuine smile. “Glad you could make it. Trixie hopes you’ll find your fears inside!” “Enjoy the house, Twilight!” Glimmer said and waved a hoof. The two of them were dressed up, as you would expect. Trixie donned a pair of black cat ears with a snug outfit to match. The entire thing was black and looked to be furred but it was hard to tell in the dark. Her own tail had been braided and a black cat tail fastened against it. You had to admit, the drawn on whiskers and button nose were rather cute. Glimmer was dressed more like Frankenstein’s monster’s bride. Her mane was done up for it as she wore the appropriate garments as well. You wondered how much Rarity had a hoof in all that to get it to look so good. Without wasting anymore time, Twi urges you along and to the house. It was two stories but looked so eerie. It was pretty neat. The door stood open and welcomed you to the dimly lit interior. Stepping in, you found the whole place had been done up. Everything looked well done. Every step had amplified floorboard creaks as you moved along with your pony almost hugging against your leg. Somehow, they had even made a spell to mute any outside disturbances so the scare factor was kept intact. Each movement had you a bit tense but assuring Twilight you were there with her. You almost didn’t see what there was to be afraid of until something scurried across the hall in front of you. Twilight was almost clawing her way up your leg before you pulled her up and held her close. The two of you laughed a bit before she held on tight and let you carry her the rest of the way through. Many scares were to be had from dressed up ponies laying in wait to jump out and small props dropping from above. Loud sounds also seemed to be a tactic used to get you to give a small shout. All in all, it had been really well made and worth the time. The clingy alicorn even stated how much she enjoyed it despite her forelegs almost trembling around your neck. Once you exited the back, you made a loop around to commend the two ponies for the set. Trixie seemed awfully flattered but kept her cool. There was mention of a donation box if you happened to like the house along with her ushering in other ponies to see it. Glimmer thanked you both as Twi slipped a few bits into the nearly full box that was presented. They must have been doing real good. “Are you okay?” Glimmer asked, looking to your mare. “I’m f-fine,” Twilight said and smiled. “Just still a bit jittery.” You give the purple mare a soft kiss to her cheek and almost instantly her forelegs ease up while she looked away bashfully. That solved that problem rather fast. Glimmer gave a smirk before she levitated the box around to other ponies nearby and left you two love birds alone. The walk back was calming as you looked up to the sky and noticed Luna had changed the moon to a murky red color. Eerie as it was, the whole place in general seemed relaxing. All the ponies were getting involved for the holiday and it rekindled that love you had for it as well. While you already enjoyed it, the experience you had tonight made it become so much more apparent. Twilight cuddled up close to you in your arms as she nuzzled against your neck lightly. The sensation made you shiver a bit, loving her touch dearly and sighing happily. There was still the rest of the night ahead of you but it seemed the excitement was starting to weigh in faster than usual. Not that you minded. The close you got to the castle the more lovey Twi got in your arms. Her body continued to nestle to you as she gave various kisses to your jaw and neck. A hoof lightly rested to your chest as she stayed mostly silent the entire way back. She wanted to enjoy the moment with you as much as you did for her. “Say ‘ahh,’” said the pony quietly. You obeyed and felt the fake teeth carefully pulled free from your mouth. That felt much better. You stretched your jaw a bit then smiled at the precious pony. You didn’t need those to nibble her. “Nooo~” she playfully feigned, leaning her head back and presenting her soft neck. How could you refuse? Your head dips as your teeth and lips graze ever so lightly along her neck. The action must be light enough along with the area being ticklish as she squirms a bit and tries her best not to laugh. The little scene lasts little more than a minute before her hooves try to press you away gently as she lets out a laugh and little snort. How utterly precious. The blush growing across her muzzle is easy to notice even in under the red moon. You give her a few teases before kissing her nose and hugging her close. Oh, how you loved her so. With the castle coming up, you reach down for the handle before it opens of its own accord. Must be the work of a witch. Stepping in, you still hold your pony close and glance back as the door shuts by itself. “What would you like next?” Twi asked curiously, looking up to you with those big, round violet eyes of hers. As if you needed to think on it. You sweep up the two bags left for you both and carry your mare up the stairs with a smile. If you didn’t know any better, you’d think Twilight enjoyed being carried. Her hooves hold at your chest and shoulder before you finally make it to her room. Your room. Her body slips as she hops out of your arms and floats down onto her broom from earlier. She must have had it trailing behind you the whole time. A few spins in the air and finally lowering herself near the bed, the lavender pony hops down and gives a cute smile up to you. “Spells? Incantations?” she asks, knowing what you planned on doing but not the subject. You saunter over to one of the nearby shelves and look through the books as you hear her clamber up onto the bed with a cute grunt. Once you see what you need, you pluck the book free of its spot and move over, giving a fun bounce on your back right onto the bed. Twilight’s body lifts as she gets wide-eyed before landing then giggling. The room was mostly dark save for a few candles and one lantern. You hold up the piece of literature for her to read the title as you kick off your shoes and get comfortable. “Scary stories?” she inquires and looks to you before magically drawing a candle near to read by. You nod and scoot closer as she does the same. An arm drapes around her as she settles in for the night while admiring the warmer you offer. Her magic pulls up the bags and opens them as the scent of sugary sweets fills the air for period. Offering you a piece of candy, Twily pulls the book gently from you and lays her head to your shoulder. The sound of her voice was soothing and more calming than anything else. Even if she was reading such spooky things it was relaxing to enjoy with her. You pop the treat in your mouth and nose at her ears before slipping her hat off and setting it aside. As strong as the sweets smelled from the bag, nothing could diminish the light fragrance your mare had as you held her close. Kissing the top of her head, her silken mane spilled over your arm and chest as she lay with you, reading to you, letting you love her. There was a pause after she ended the story before she nudged the book to your free hand. Taking it, you watch as she treats herself to one of Pinkie’s candies then feel her nuzzle along your chest with her cheek. It was the best Nightmare Night to be had. You read to her as she relaxed against you and listened. Those sweet ears perked up at moments and tilted one way or the other at times. It wasn’t until you finished your own story that you leaned in to nibble along one of those ears lightly. Twilight smiled and gave a tired giggle before she turned a bit and kissed your chest then looked up to you. The light danced across her eyes as she smiled with her mane casually laying about. “I love you~” she whispered in a tired tone. You loved her as well. More than anything. She knew. A foreleg raised as she cuddled against your side and drew a blanket over you both. You set the book aside and gently rest your hand along her foreleg, rubbing softly. There’s a little mumble from her as she begins to drift off to sleep. “Happy Nightmare Night,” Twily says before finally nodding off in your arms. Happy Nightmare Night~
