You can hear Twilight singing in the shower just down the hall. You swing your legs over the side of the bed, stretching and yawning as you sit up. As much as you enjoyed the previous day, you decide enough is enough, fetching fresh linens and bedsheets for Twilight’s bed and making it for her, inhaling the fresh scent deeply and giving a sigh of satisfaction when it’s clean and immaculate again.   >You pass her on the way to your own shower, receiving another tail-whip out of nowhere as she passes you, this one stinging much more than the previous one, given her tail is still wet.   “AH! Jeez Twi that really stung,” you say, rubbing your rump where she slapped you, feeling a welt start to come up.   >”Poor baby, you want momma Twily to kiss it and make it all better?” she teases, giggling as she continues past you.   >For a fleeting moment you wonder if she might be developing a bit of a sadistic streak, but you quickly shrug it off as her just being more emboldened after yesterday’s events. You’ll give her a nice swat on the rump when she isn’t expecting it later on to get back at her.   >You linger in the shower, reveling in the hot, steamy water as it cascades over your body, taking your time as you clean yourself. Once satisfied you dry off and half-assedly dress yourself in casual attire, not really expecting to go anywhere important today. You set off to find Twilight with the intent to have breakfast with her, and are pleasantly surprised to find she’s already prepared it for you. As you look across the table at each other you don’t say much, simply exchanging a variety of loving and mischievous looks while you eat. As you finish and Twilight gathers the dishes, you reach over and playfully slap her on the rump with a bit of force.   “Giddy up, little filly!” you laugh. She shoots you an angry glare for a fraction of a second before her expression softens and she giggles back at you.   >The two of you plan to go out today instead of staying in. You let Twilight decide on most of your activities, not really caring what you’re doing as long as you’re with her when you’re doing it. Your first stop for the day is the park, taking your time as you lazily saunter to your destination, enjoying the scenery and each other’s company.   >Coincidentally you notice that the same three colts you’d come across in town weeks before are here at the park playing today. You sigh contentedly, watching them play and roughhouse each other as Twilight perches herself on your lap. You start daydreaming about having children of your own with Twilight, hopeful that when the time comes it will somehow be possible.   “Hi Captain!” one of the colts yells over to you, waving a hoof in your direction, completely catching you off guard, startling you so much that Twilight nearly falls off your lap. Not only was the little guy talking to you, he was smiling and waving at you. All three of them are trotting toward you soon after, sitting on their haunches in front of you when they reach your bench.   >You’re completely stunned by their sudden friendliness and complete lack of fear. Twilight yawns and stretches her wings a bit as she greets them.   >”Hello there, boys. Are you enjoying this lovely day as much as we are?”   >It’s not long before you’re assaulted with a barrage of questions.   >”Princess Twilight, are you and the Captain really gonna save us from the big mean aliens?”   >”Captain, is it true you’re going to use your mind control powers on them to make them run away?”   >”Oh, oh, Captain, Captain, can we see your spaceship? Pleeease? Can we, can we?”   >”I wanna go for a ride in it!”   >”Me first!”   >”Not until I get my turn!”   >A few more fillies and colts start to gather around you, their words eventually becoming an incoherent cacophony of excited voices. You look around for any parents that might be nearby, and to your surprise the ones you see simply smile at you or wave.   “Twilight, what the heck is going on here!?”   >Her horn glows, teleporting you out of range of the excited youngsters. You walk with her as she begins to explain.   >”Well, more than a few ponies knew about what we were doing here. The construction effort was such a huge undertaking that it didn’t take long for ponies to start asking questions about the sudden massive influx of activity in and through Ponyville. Mayor Mare wanted some answers so I eventually told her about our plan. The whole town pretty much knew about it by the time we were finished with construction. I’m afraid some of them must have exaggerated or fabricated certain details as they spread the word…heh… looks like the little ones see you as some kind of super hero.”   >As you continue to walk around town, you don’t see a single angry glare or evil eye in your direction, and it feels downright peculiar. For the past month you’d been entirely focused on your work and hadn’t even had a chance to interact with any of these ponies, and now all of a sudden you’re a welcome part of the community, even a hero of sorts? How the hell did that happen? You question Twilight further as you continue walking.   “You know, it feels great that they don’t seem afraid of me but that situation with the children earlier was a little overwhelming,” you say. “Why do I get the feeling you’re leaving something out?”   >”Oh, heh, well,” she stammers, “me and Princess Celestia, Princess Luna, my brother, and Princess Cadance might have had just a teeny tiny part in putting out a good word or two about you on a few occasions to bolster your reputation while we were putting this all together.”   “Wow… that was nice of you all, but how did you ever find the time? We slaved over that work for weeks, how did any of you slip away long enough to do that?”   >”Well, you really made a huge impression on princess Celestia at our meeting with how passionate you were about defending Equestria. You made a huge impression on all of us to be honest. I mean, I already knew what a wonderful and loving person you are, but you absolutely shattered some of their misconceived perceptions of you,” she replies smiling up at you. “When you were out of the room a few times we talked about what a hard time you’ve been having fitting in here. They all wanted to do something for you in return for planning and coordinating all of this. So over the course of the project we let some of our plans ‘leak,’ maybe with the occasional embellishment here or there to paint you in a positive light, hyping you up as our loving protector and savior from the evil alien scum.”   “So you basically brainwashed them all with propaganda?” you say, sounding disappointed. “That doesn’t feel right somehow, Twi. I was really hoping they’d eventually warm up to me on their own.”   >“They did warm up to you on their own, Anon, we just gave them a little extra push to help them see you for what you really are. That you’re not a freak, a monster or a beast to be scared of and repulsed by. That you love the ponies of Equestria deeply and sincerely enough to risk your own life for them. To make them aware of how much heart and soul you put into your plan to protect them, and how hard you slaved over it to make sure everything came together perfectly. Believe it or not, good news travels a lot faster than bad news in Ponyville, and most of the rest of Equestria. While our efforts were mostly focused here, I wouldn’t be surprised to find you’re more welcome and accepted anywhere in Equestria than you might have been previously.”   “Weren’t you the least bit worried about letting out such sensitive information to the public? I mean, Equestria still has its enemies, for all we know if word got out to them any of them could be planning to sabotage us at this very moment. Don’t get me wrong, Twily, the gesture is appreciated and I love you all for it, it really means a lot to me, but even though you had only the best of intentions the five of you might have unwittingly jeopardized our plans. That troubles me deeply, Twi. Sure I wanted the ponies around here to like me, but their safety is more important than my feelings, I sort of wish you would have kept things a bit more confidential. I appreciate the gesture but I can’t say I condone what you did…”   >She stops and rears up, placing her hooves against your stomach and looking up at you.   >“This is bigger than any of that, Anon. Even if our enemies knew what was going on do you really think they’d try and stop us, knowing the whole planet may be in danger? They may be plotting and scheming against us at this very moment, sure, but they’re not going to interfere with something we’re doing that’s going to benefit them as well. They’re not that stupid.”   >You look into her eyes with deep concern before she continues.   >”Don’t worry Anon. You said it yourself, these two days were for us and us alone, and not to worry about the plan for now.”   >You sigh and place a hand on top of her head.   “This isn’t exactly how I wanted things to play out, but I guess there’s nothing I can do now.”   >You hesitate for a while, still resting your hand on Twilight’s head, but avoiding eye contact, instead continuing to look around and take notice of the other ponies around you, the friendly smiles and waves as they pass by, it’s almost eerie in a way. You’ve never been entirely comfortable with the “hero” treatment, you’ve always seen yourself as just doing your duty, or whatever’s necessary in any given situation. Looks like, for now at least, you’ll just have to get used to it. You scratch Twilight behind her ear and give her a quick smile as she gets back down on all four hooves and you continue walking.   >You skip lunch yourself, instead sitting and watching Twilight scarf hers down. You don’t have much of an appetite.  You can’t help but worry about the situation now, but maybe that’s just the years of military training talking. Back in the Confederacy if you’d have pulled a stunt like that you’d have lost your commission and been lucky to escape prison time for releasing such classified information. You place a hand on your face, resting your elbow on the table.   >After lunch the two of you continue roaming around Ponyville, visiting each of Twilight’s friends, spending an hour or so with each one. You remain silent for the most part as she chats with them, unless you’re explicitly invited into the conversation. Even then, it’s varying degrees of awkward when you do join in, depending on the topic of discussion. All of Ponyville might have accepted you by now, but none of them know that you and Twilight are intimate with one another. Her friends still do though, and it keeps things a little awkward between you, even though there’s no more overt hostility on their part. When you go to visit the Apple family, you’re absolutely stunned to get a heartfelt apology and a hug from Applejack herself before she invites you and Twilight to join them for dinner.   >Even after Applejack extends that olive branch you still find yourself remaining silent throughout most of the meal, pushing the food around on your plate idly. You don’t really have much of an appetite – save for a single slice of hot, freshly baked apple pie, which you devour rapidly. You eventually manage to force the rest of the meal down as well, not wanting to be rude to your hosts. At one point there’s a knock at the door, and Applejack excuses herself to go answer it. When she returns you’re not quite paying attention. Applejack clears her throat loudly before calling out to you.   >”AHEM… Anon, there’s somepony here to see you.”   >When you look up you’re surprised to see Twilight’s brother, not wearing any armor. She jumps up to give him a hug and nuzzle and he greets her briefly.   >”Hi Twily. I know I’m here a little early, but I need to talk with Anon.”   >”Oh, okay, well we were just finishing up dinner here, we can go-“   >”Just Anon, Twily. You stay here, spend time with your friends, it’s the last chance you’re going to have for a little while. Anon, if you’ll come with me?”   >You give Twilight a reassuring nod as you stand up and excuse yourself.   “I’ll see you back at home, Twi. Like your brother said, take your time, no need to rush. Apple family, thank you for dinner and for your hospitality, I hope we can continue to become better friends, Applejack.”
