Where have you been anyways? I haven’t seen you almost all day.” “That’s what I wanted to talk to you about! I was wandering around when I came along the edge of the forest. And waaaay out in the distance I saw one of those “towns” that those ponies live in.” >”You didn’t go all the way out there on your own did you?” “No, but there was this really cool looking tree that was a lot closer. There were all kinds of animals and stuff there. Anyway, it turns out that one of the ponies actually lives in the tree!” >Now this has caught Blue’s attention. >”You’re kidding. Are you sure she wasn’t just a woodpecker?” “No. She had wings, but she was all yellow and pink and stuff. She said she was something called a peg-a-sews. She seemed really nice” >”Well that’s good at least. Now come on, it’s getting late.” >Peep quickly settles in to the nest, ready to doze off into sleep. “Hey Blue?” >”Yeah?” “I wanna go out there again. To go out beyond the forest and see the ponies.” >”Hey not without me you aren’t. Who knows what kind of trouble you could get in to?” >”Besides… I kinda want to go there myself.” “Good night Blue.” >Night Peep.” >Snuggling in, they both soon drift off to sleep, Peep making soft coos in her slumber.   >The next morning saw Fluttershy doing her daily routines. >Feed herself, feed the animals, check the sick and wounded, clean off. >”EEH!” >Taking care of so many animals can get hard, but she loves it. >”EEH!” >Besides, she thought, she will always be able to go out and spend time with her friends. >”EEH!” >”That’s weird. I wonder why the birds are so noisy this morning.” >”EEH EEH! EEH!” >Well it wouldn’t hurt to check. >Strolling outside once more, she tries to find just where the noisy little bird was. >She tried checking all the coops and birdhouses but to no avail. >”EEH! EEH EEH EEH!” >After that outburst it sounded like it was actually coming from the tree. >Softly flying up she was ready to dig in to the thick of the branches and leaves to find where her little bird friend was. >She didn’t have to dig very deep to find something, but to her surprise it wasn’t a bird, but actually a pony.” >”Wha- who are you?” >”EEH!” >How bizarre she thought. A pony sitting on her house making bird sounds. >A very bright blue, nearly uniformly colored pony at that. “Hello again! Coo~” >Well that would certainly explain it. >Peep poked herself more into Fluttershy’s view. >”Oh my goodness. Hello again Peep. I didn’t think that I would see you again so soon.” >”Sup? Name’s Blue.” >Blue so eloquently interrupts Fluttershy’s train of thought and extends a hoof.   >The quiet mare takes the sign of good will and extends her own hoof for a shake. >With introductions out of the way, the two bird ponies finally got out of their little hole in the tree. >Blue stares Fluttershy down with a scrutinous eye, moving around to examine every aspect. >She doesn’t even stop there, as she forgoes any sense of personal space and moves on to a more hooves-on examination. >Studying the wings, the feathers, everything. >”How do you fly?” >”I-I’m sorry?” >”You heard me. How do you fly? I’ve seen smaller birds more fit to fly than you.” “Blue that’s rude!” >”Oh no it’s fine. I know I’m not really the best flyer around. Oh but my friend Rainbow Dash really loves to fly and do tricks!” >”Is that so? Well then I’m just gonna have to meet this pony.” >”She should be into town soon.” “Hey we were just going there! You have to show us around! Pleeeeease?” >”Oh you’re just so sweet. How could I say no? >Taking off the three were headed on their way towards the town. >It didn’t take very long before reaching the edge, a sign indicating the limits. >”Pony-ville? That’s a stupid name.” “Blue! That is really rude. We can’t just go around insulting these ponies.” >”Ehh I guess. But hey that’s not what we’re here for.” “Come on Fluttershy you gotta show us around! This place is so big, and they’ve got all these big things everywhere! Where do ponies make your nest?” >Walking through town Fluttershy was trying to answer the slew of questions coming from the enthusiastic little pigeon.   >Blue was more calm and reserved, yet obviously showed her fascination in the whole new world she was in as she looked around at all the buildings, the decorations, the ponies… >Who were staring right back at them. >Usually the townsponies were used to seeing newcomers in Ponyville. >Except these weren’t ordinary ponies. >Sure the blue one seemed normal enough, but the excitable little gray one just wasn’t colored normally.” >”Hey uhh Fluttershy. What’s the deal with these guys? They’ve all been eyeballing us kinda funny.” >”Oh, I guess it’s just because nopony’s ever seen one of your kind before. Don’t worry though; Ponyville is used to seeing all kinds of things.” >”Also what’s with the markings on your butts? Those are really out of place and don’t really have much aesthetic.” >”Those are cutie marks. They represent a pony’s special talent.” >”…Huh?” >”When foals grow up they will find something that sets them apart from most ponies. This is their special talent, and when they finally find just what that is then their cutie mark will appear.” “Huh? You ponies are really weird.” >Fluttershy gives a small laugh as they continue on their way through town. >Eventually they reach the market, the smell of all sorts of food wafting through the air. >It was amazing. Neither Peep nor Blue had seen such a large store of things to eat. >Little wooden constructions covered the area, all filled with delicious looking berries, fruit, and some greens they had never seen before in their lives.   >Waltzing up to one of the stands with loads of delectable blue berries Blue takes a nice hooffull and- >”Hey!” >”EEH! HUH?” >”You can’t just take those without paying!” “What’s ‘paying?’” >”Are you stupid or something? You give me bits, I give you the berries.” >A pregnant pause and two puzzled looks are all that’s exchanged. >”Why would I give you anything for something you can find on trees and bushes?” >”Wha- you two really are stupid aren’t you? What kind of rock have you been living under?” “Hey who are you calling stupid?” >Peep’s feathers start to ruffle in her frustration and anger. >Fluttershy, noticing the complications the birds were having, decides to step in to help ease the tension. >”Look, I’m very sorry about my friends. They just aren’t used to pony society.” >”Just leave already.” >They don’t take any time stepping away from the vendor and cool off. “Bluuue. I still want something to eat.” >Blue however, was busy downing a slug she had seen, much to Fluttershy’s morbid terror. >”I know. There really isn’t much to eat out here that ain’t blocked off by these ponies. Say, does that Rainbow Dash friend of yours have any food on her?” >”I thought for sure she would be in town today. Oh but maybe we can go have a nice lunch at one of the restaurants around.” >While Blue was about to ask just what a restaurant was, Peep butted in. “H-hey Blue. L-look at that tree.” >”Huh, what tree? O-oh my gosh.”   >Before them, not far in the distance, stood a tree larger than either of them had ever seen. >Blues and purples, shining in the sun’s brilliance, sticking out like a massively sore hoof amongst the quaint little town. >”It looks kind of weird.” “But it’s so cool looking! We have to go check it out!” >The closer they approached and the more they looked, the less they realized it was a normal tree. >Odd, boxy protrusions, the lack of leaves, the large star adorning the top. >”Is this even a real tree? Heck it already looks like somebody built their stuff on it.” “Phooey. It would have been cool to build another nest here.” >It may not have made a good nest, but it certainly made a wonderful perch. >They could see everything for miles around. >Their home forest, the whole town, even what appeared to be another town on one of the big hills in the distance. “This place is so big. Just think of all the different places to explore and all the birds to meet.” >”Yeah but it’s kind of lacking in the tree department.” >”Please get down! I don’t think Twilight would like it if you made a mess up there!” >The birds give each other a puzzled stare. >”Who’s Twilight?” “I already went earlier though.” >Looking down again they saw another pony had joined Fluttershy. >In almost no time at all she was looking right back at them. >And flying up to them. >And speaking to them. >”So I take it you two are the new ponies that Fluttershy was…talking… about?” “Coo?” >The purple one’s face went changed to a very confused expression, but lit up almost immediately.   >”OH CELESTIA THIS IS AMAZING!” >”EEH! WHAT, WHY THE SCREAMING?” “What’s a Celestia?” >”This is absolutely fantastic! I wish I had been told sooner! Please, please come down so we can have a proper introduction.” >The purple one was more excited than Peep had been earlier. >Nervously, they had followed her to the ground. >She had ushered them directly into the unearthly tree. >Once inside they were greeted by a massive room with a high ceiling and a large spacious center. >Now that the purple on had sat her behind down in one of the large elevated seat, the birds had taken note of one thing. >Just how massive she was. >She was at least half a head taller than either of them! >Were all ponies this big? >She also had one of those odd spiraling protrusions coming out of her head. >But all the other ponies they had seen only had one or the other. >Sometimes they didn’t have either! >”Very sorry for the freak out earlier. It’s just that I’ve never seen bird ponies before and it’s just a big deal for me getting to see one of Equestria’s most diverse and beautiful inhabitants.” “…Coo?” >”I-I guess I’m getting ahead of myself again. My name is Twilight Sparkle.” “My name’s Peep, and this is Blue.” >”So uhhh, why did you want to meet us? And what’s the deal with the tree?” >”Well you see it’s because I’m one of the princesses of Equestria, and this is my castle.” >Of course neither of them understood most of what she said, but just decided to go along with it for convenience’s sake. >”Now, as to why I brought you two here. Usually ponies come and go through Ponyville as they please and nopony really pays much attention.”   >”You two however are a lot more widespread, and most ponies will never see your kind at all.” >I’ve read the accounts about your species, but never thought that I would actually be able see one, let alone talk to one!” “What, have you never gone into the big forest before? We’re friends with plenty of other birds.” Twilight grew anxious at the thought of being able to discover. >”Yeah I mean we’ve got Scarlett-“ >”Look that isn’t important right now! I just want to talk to you and learn. Just get more first-hoof information on bird pony culture, how you live, take physical examinations and stuff like that.” “What’s a culture?” >One thing Twilight had neglected to consider was that living in a forest is so radically different from pony life that many words and concepts are completely lost on them. >But it would all be okay, just as long as she’s patient, and had her large supply of paper, quills, and ink. >”Alright. Now for posterity, what species are you?” >*Grumble* “Hungry. We haven’t gotten anything to eat since we left the nest.” >”Well she didn’t at least.” >*Grumble* “Yeah great to see that one slug did so much for you.” >”Look whatever. Hey Purple, you got any food? Some jerk was forcing us to give him stuff for some berries.” >”SPIKE! CAN YOU BRING SOME DAISY SANDWICHES?” >A faint acknowledgment was heard coming from somewhere. >But now this left two bored, hungry, birds waiting for food. >They sat staring at everything they could see in the gigantic room. >One such thing being that the thing on Twilight’s butt was on the very seat she sat on. >In fact another had the same mark on Fluttershy’s butt. >There were countless scenarios running through their brains using what little information they had of the pony world.   >Eventually, a lizard walked into the room. >A very strange lizard that walked on only two legs. >Peep’s mind began to wander back to all the birds of the forest. >She swears there was one that could eat lizards and would absolutely love to get her hooves on the one walking right in front of them. >Well that could be saved for another time, because apparently the lizard had brought food with it. >Only the greenery stuffed into it looked natural. >Maybe this was some weird pony delicacy. >Twilight had noticed the confusion on their faces. >”Go on. It’s perfectly fine for ponies to eat.” >Slowly, Peep had brought her muzzle down to the food and took a small peck. >And then another. >And then another. >Soon enough she was tearing off larger bites of the grainy substance. “This stuff is really good Blue! Come on and eat some!” >Blue had less apprehension when dealing with the new food. >She had taken a larger bite than Peep had. >And then a larger one still, almost biting all the way through the “sandwich.” >”PFTHFFHHTHEEEH. What’s the deal? You put flowers in these stupid things?” >She had backed up from the food, feathers slightly ruffled from the invasive taste. >”Well flowers are a part of a normal pony’s die-“ >”Get it through your thick skull already that we ARE NOT PONIES!” “Blue there is no need to shout! It was an honest mistake and she’s trying her hardest to accommodate us!” >”I… I guess you’re right. I’m sorry Peep. B-but can I get some more of this brown stuff?” >”SPIKE! MORE BREAD!”   >Tummies stuffed with crumby goodness it was time to officially move on with the learning. >Twilight was viciously scribbling down all the information she could gather out of the two birds. >Everything from lifestyles, diets, behavioral quirks, preening, to singing. >She had learned everything, or at least almost everything. >When bringing up mating she was met with it as a “private concern.” >She was even able to do detailed drawings for her research. >Blue was eager to show off, but Peep was a bit more reserved for someone other than Blue or a friend getting so close and personal. >However, they were both sure to keep their tails down after Twilight’s previous, slightly anxious, inquiries about mating. >In return, the birds got information about the ponies. >Like why someone would take something of yours for some measly fruit and berries. >They even got some of the “money” that they used. >It was so brilliantly shiny and attractive. >Their eyes glinted at the thought of sprucing up the nest back home. >But it was getting late, and they wouldn’t be able to make it back before dark. >Fortune smiled upon them since Twilight would allow them to stay in her home for the night. >”This will be your room for the night. I hope you don’t mind.” >It possessed two wonderfully large cushy beds on either side of the room. >Blue had jumped up on one, and began scuffing up the blankets to provide a makeshift nest. >”That… that isn’t how...” >Twilight was cut short at the sight of Peep following Blue up onto the bed and curling up to sleep. >Who was she to deny them a comfort in such a strange land?   >The next morning had started simple enough. >Wake up, stretch, eat more weird pony food. >Get harassed by the purple lizard. >He seemed oddly displeased by their presence for whatever reason. >Twilight, however, was happy to see them. >”So Blue I heard you really wanted to meet Rainbow Dash right? Well Fluttershy says that she’s bringing her here so you can.” >”Oh boy this is gonna be great! When will they get here?” >”In a few hours. Rainbow has weather duty.” >”UUUUUGGH! Don’t you ponies have anything to do around this dinky little town?” >”I have just the thing for you two. Follow me and I’ll show you my most favorite part of the whole castle.” >After a lazy jaunt through the winding, seemingly endless halls of the castle they reach >”The library! Here is where hundreds upon hundreds of books are stored. Informational books on just about everything you can think of, or fictional stories of adventure, romance, anything!” >Blue was busying herself with finding a book to share while Peep was waiting. >Eventually she picked a nice thick, vibrant book, with a wonderful picture of various creatures adorning the cover. >Plopping their tushies down somewhere comfortable and scooching close was all they needed to get ready to read. >It was filled with all kinds of fantastical creatures from all over the planet. >The small, the terrifying, the squishy. >It had virtually everything in it, including the bird ponies. >Blue felt a sickened at the thought of the ponies just seeing them as something to be studied. >Regardless, they kept reading as the hours ticked by.   >At some point the lizard, Spike apparently, came walking into the library saying that Rainbow had finally come over. >The birds were expecting another long, boring walk through the castle to get to the front door. >Until Twilight’s horn started glowing. >The entire group was surrounded in a bright purple flash for a brief moment. >”AGH WHAT DID YOU DO? ARE YOU TRYING TO BLIND US YOU STUPID PURPLE… uhhh.” >It didn’t take long for them to realize that they had changed position entirely and were now standing back near the entrance. >They were bewildered at the sight before them. “W-what DID you do?” >”Teleportation. It allows things to easily change positions in an instant.” >Peep was still trying to blink the spots out of her eyes while Blue was trying t mat her ruffled feathers. >”Yeah well don’t do that. I’m fine enough moving around on my own.” >A slightly muffled voice had come from the other side of the door. >”Hey Twi, is everything alright? I kinda want to see those new ponies now.” >Twilight moved up to swing the door wide open. >What greeted them was a blue pony with the most ridiculous colors imaginable. >Blue couldn’t help but try to hold in her laughter. >Many ponies had nice vibrant colors, enough to attract a mate. >What she saw however was a horrid, conglomeration of colors with absolutely no pattern to them. >”S-so you’re this Rainbow Dash huh? Wowee I didn’t think it would be quite so literal.” >”The one and only. The fastest and coolest flyer in all of Equestria. So I take it you’re Blue huh?” >”Y-yeah I sure am. BAHAHAHAHA YOU LOOK RIDICULOUS! I honestly can’t believe what I’m seeing right now!” “Blue come on! Why can’t you just give a good first impression for once?” >”You know you’ve got guts saying something like that. Maybe you’re just trying to make up for your size?” >Blue’s laughter stops almost immediately; her joyous visage quickly souring.   >Peep sensed just what’s about to happen, but was too late to really stop it. “Oh no. Please Blue.” >Her plea was ignored as Blue slowly stepped up to Rainbow with a scowl. >”What did you just say to me? I am a fully grown bird damn it! You are really pushing your luck you blue bitch!” >”What’s the matter Neighpolean, upset I insulted your height? If you wanna go then I’m all for it… unless you’re chicken.” >She never saw it coming. >Not the huge lunge, nor the burning rage in Blue’s eyes. >Blue kept flying and delivering blows when she could. >”YOU THINK YOU CAN JUST INSULT ME LIKE THAT AND GET AWAY WITH IT? YOU THINK YOUR SIZE MEANS ANYTHING YOU STUPID BITCH?” >Rainbow started flapping her own wings which slowed them down enough to force a landing. >Blue would not let up. >The landing became more of a rough tumble as she continued trying to wail on her. >Rainbow had tried kicking her off, rolling, and grappling Blue but nothing was effective. >Whatever she did, Blue was right on her crying harsh shrieks. >A minute had passed before Twilight appeared in a flash of light, too slow to keep up on wings. >As soon as she appeared, her horn lit up and enveloped Blue in a purple aura. >”EEH! HEY HEY LET GO OF ME YOU PURPLE FUCK! THIS IS A FIGHT BETWEEN ME AND HER!” >Twilight would not let up as she checked on Rainbow to check how bad the injuries were. >Meanwhile, Peep came flying in as fast as she could. >She knew Blue well enough that if she couldn’t stop things from getting worse then she would have to wait it out before calming down Blue. “Blue you big idiot! These ponies are just trying to be our friends and you’re making fun of them and trying to hurt them! Why can’t you just be nice to them?” >Twilight had released her magical grip on Blue, now starting to well up. >”I… I lost my temper again. I-I’m sorry Peep. I’m so so sorry.” >The waterworks began as Peep started to hug her in comfort.   >A while had passed, and Blue’s wails turned into choked sobs as her tears ran dry. >Peep had spent the entire time cradling her in her hooves, her soft cooing calming her nerves. >She sat there whispering assurances and stroking Blue’s man as she let everything out. >”We… we should just go home P-Peep. I-I just want to go back to the nest where… where no one can bother us.” >”Actually I was thinking that we could go somewhere nice.” >”What do want you p… what do you want?” >”Well I was hoping we could go to the park. It’s like a little slice of nature with plenty of trees and small animals.” “I think that sounds lovely. Come on, it will help cool you off a bit more.” >Flying there was slower due to the poor mood Blue was in. >But once there things seemed to lighten up. >While Blue had a small smile on her face, she lazily flew up into a tree to be left alone. >Peep, however, was giddy at the sight before her. >Plenty of trees and grass, some ponds, and even plenty of flowers to brighten the place up. >Even better were all the animals scurrying around the place. >Some pigeons had landed nearby near one of the occupied benches. >Oooh there were even more flocking down to come be friends with her! >Trotting up to the first group, she was surrounded by the familiar coos as some had even come to land on her. >It turns out the pony was throwing bread down to feed all the little pigeons. >How sweet. >Of course, something walking into a flock of birds and not startling them gets attention. >Looking up, they seemed startled at the fact a strangely colored pony was staring back. >”W-What in Equestria are you?” “A pigeon, silly.” >”Wha- no you aren’t. You’re just a pony that looks like one. You’re probably just some freak a-and I don’t want to be associated with you.” >The stallion quickly gets up and gallops to some other part of the park.” >”That was very rude! Oooh bread!”   >Peep was having fun as the time went by. >She was able to meet plenty of new bird friends, and even talk to some of the ponies passing through. >Still, it was getting late, so she had found Twilight and told her that they were going to be leaving. >Now the only problem was finding Blue. >Peep had lost track of where she had flown off to, and she wasn’t responding to any of her calls. >She was determined to find her even if it meant popping her head into every tree in the park. >When she finally found her, Blue was lounging across a thick branch, obviously in a better mood then she had been. >The blue bird was singing to herself and a small group of birds that had flown to the tree. ”Coo~ Hey Blue, how are you feeling?” >”Oh, hey Peep. I’m fine I guess. I-I made some new friends, see?” It was evident that Blue was still somewhat out of it, shaken up by the incident from earlier. >”A-and I didn’t scare them off like with those ponies too!” “Hey hey you don’t have to keep beating yourself up about it. Look, you wanted to go back to the nest right? Well it’s getting kind of late and I think it’s time we do that.” >Almost immediately she was upright and airborne. >”Yes please! I just want to go home and relax where no one can bother us.” >The two had taken flight back towards the Everfree, following the same path they had used to come to Ponyville. >It would be nice to just relax and forget all the day’s stress. >While Blue had gone directly to the nest to prepare to sleep, Peep had gone just a bit further than that. >She had taken out a few of the shiny coins and tossed them on the ground in front of her. “Oooh Scarlett~”
