We’ll attack and draw the captain out. Then you jump in and take him from above. Boom, the ship is ours.” >You nod, your grip wearing microscopic grooves in the warm wood shaft of your spear. “Sounds good, Glida. Let’s do it.” >A coy grin crosses that beak. It’s a grin that always inspires confidence. >Not just in you, but in the entire crew. >”Alright then. Get the crew ready. We strike now!” >You nod. Glida is many things to you, and right now, she is your captain. >It is the duty of a first officer to serve his captain. “Aye Aye, ma’am.” >You turn and start barking at the crew from over the rail of the steering deck. “ALRIGHT YOU YELLOW-BELLIED DICKS! READY YER’ SWORDS AND SPEARS, IT’S TIME TO PROVE YOU’RE WORTH A BUCKET OF PISS TO CAPTAIN GLIDA!” >The crew cheers and sets about their work. >P0nies, griffons, minotaurs, there’s even a few Changelings mingled in. >All of them follow Glida, the greatest sky pirate alive. >You would follow her to the maw of Tartarus itself. >You grab hold of the rigging with your free hand, Glida standing proud beside you as she watches her crew operate like a well oiled machine. “HELM, HARD TO PORT! OPEN ALL GUN PORTS! MAKE THEM RUE THE DAY THEY CROSSED PATHS WITH THE WESTERN SKY RAIDERS!” http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-FvoA0euYhc >The airship banks hard out of the clouds, slicing through the vapor like a shark encircling its prey. >You’re above your quarry. Good, this will make things easier. >You eye the prize as the airship maneuvers to bring her guns to bear. >An Equestrian air transport. A big one too. >A ship like that is bound to have plenty of swag, and the Equestrians were normally pretty good at paying ransom. >Glida’s cry as she takes to the sky pierces your mind. The fliers follow her up, like a rising storm. “OPEN FIRE!” >Flak explodes around the Equestrian ship as the gunners below decks unleash hell, giving cover to the harpoons and anchor lines as they embed in their prow. >The ship lurches as two opposing forces tug at each other, the lines growing taut as the rest of the boarding party slides down to join the battle. >Your eyes scan for your target, pausing as you spy Glida. >She’s darting along the contours of the airship blimp, chasing down a pegasus guard. >You can’t help but smile, admiring the lithe form twist and contour as the predator pursues her prey. >Wait…there he is. >Big, pompous hat, looks like a million bits. >Nobody else it could be. >Your airship drifts above the Equestrian as you grab hold of the anchor line. >With a shove, you start your descent. >You spin around the rope like a corkscrew, letting go at just the right time. >Your boots were the first to meet the captain’s torso. >The tip of your spear to his head, the second. >You let out a loud cry as you plant your boot at the base of the captain’s skull, yanking your spear free. >You spin your weapon, bringing up the butt of the shaft to strike a pegasus in the chin, staggering her before you knocked her out with a boot to the snout. >No need to kill needlessly. A mostly-intact crew was worth more. >”ANONYMOUS!” >Your skin curls as your grip tightens around your weapon, turning to face the source of the angry shout. “Rainbow Dash…” >The cyan mare snorts and lowers her head. >”Of course it’s you…Glida must be here too.” >You lower your stance, positioning your spear to meet her if she charges. >A long time ago, when you first met everyone, you could never imagine raising arms against her. >She was your bro. >Your best friend. >She saved your life, helped you to fit in to a world of magic talking animals. >But that changed when you met Glida. >When you worked past the arrogant, cocky attitude, and got to who she was behind the veneer. >She was interested in you originally because you were exotic, new. Something nobody had ever seen before. >It was when she saw who you were, your spirit for adventure and insatiable lust for a challenge, that she saw beyond the intricacies of your physical form. >That first night when that sight found expression…man. >Some of those scratches took weeks to fade. >But Rainbow did not take it well. >If the look on her face now is any indicator…she never really got over it. >”Why...why her, Anon? You could have stayed! Not turned to this life of piracy…stayed with your friends!” “You mean stay with you?” >Rainbow’s body twitches as her muscles tense. >”…Yes. With me!” >You grip your spear tighter. “It’s because you have to ask that you will never understand.” >In the corner of your eye, you notice Glida look at you as she circles overhead. >That one glance, when your gaze meets her golden orbs. >That’s all you need to know. >It doesn’t matter what you call her. Your captain, your lover, your friend. >It’s all for her. >Rainbow yells and leaps at you. >You raise your spear. >All for her.
