this story has a sad ending, and it involves Postpartum Psychosis you have been warned.
 
(note: nights differentiate the times, not number of days apart)
 
Night 1:
>its been a long day and flurry heart has finally calmed down enough to be put to bed
>Yourself and Shining have slowly crept to the child room of your castle
>toys, pillows, blankets and other child necessities have been neatly organized and stored away perfectly
>as the two of you step into the room you have a small feeling of nervousness come over you
>a baby is a lot of work and time, how can you be a proper princess with a child?..
"shining.. im not sure if im ready to be a mother.."
>your loving husband wraps his foreleg around you as you both lay your little baby into her crib with your magic
>"you will be a great mother, i know it."
>you feel yourself blush and a small smile forms on your face
>maybe he's right, besides you will have him by your side right?
>even if he is Captain of the guard and you are a Princess the two of you will have time to raise your child.
>you should just relax and enjoy your new family.
>its going to be a busy day tomorrow.
 
Night 2:
>you were right, it has been a busy day.
>Shining was called off to Canterlot on urgent business
>and you had to plan a meeting for foreign dignitaries visiting the Crystal Empire in a few weeks
>not only that but Flurry Heart has been crying constantly
"shh. shhhhh. its ok baby.. daddy will be home soon, hes just busy"
>like you're not?
>does he think you can do this on your own
"shhh its okay"
>he doesnt have to deal with a crying child all day
>Flurry continues to cry
>and the more you listen to it the louder it seems to get
>slowly you stop rocking her with your magic
>and you whisper to yourself
"please stop..."
>of course she doesnt.
>you slowly move the baby to face you
"flurry.. please stop crying..."
>her attack on your ears continue.
"SHUT UP!"
>in shock and surprise she stops crying
>suddenly what you said dawns on you
>you yelled at your child
 
(a few minutes later)
 
>you have finally calmed Flurry down for the second time and finally sent her to bed
>how could you have done that?!
>yelling at your own child?!
>you collapse on your large, and sadly empty bed.
>tears fill your eyes and you press your face into your pillow
"im sorry flurry.. im so sorry.. i dont know what came over me!"
>your voice is muffled by the pillows soft embrace
>if only Shining was here..
>he would know just what to do.
 
Night 3:
>its been some time since the yelling incident
>but Shining still hasn't returned home
>he said business is keeping him longer than he hoped
"sure it is.. he probably has some whorse with him.. one without a child or responsibility!"
>you toss the letter into the trash
>how can he just leave you alone with the baby like this?
>you slump to your desk and look over to Flurry Heart bouncing in her little play pin
"i thought we were a team Shining.."
>you take a second and breathe
>why are you acting like this?
>shining wouldn't cheat on you. you know that.
>you look into the garbage and lift the letter back out
>your eyes move down to his signature
>"With all my love, Shining Armor."
>a small tear forms in your eye
"i know Shining.. i know.."
>Shining loves you
>thats all that really matters.
 
Night 4:
>Flurry and yourself wait at the door as you hear hoofsteps coming closer
>your heart is racing and you gently bounce Flurry getting her to giggle
>the door to your private area of the castle opens up and Shinning walks in
"welcome home daddy!"
>Flurry squeals with excitement and reaches for her daddy while making baby noises
>your stallion smiles warmly at the two of you and gives you both a big hug
>"there are my two favorite mares in the world!"
>you feel at home in his warm and loving embrace
>he always gave the best hugs
"i missed you my love"
>you softly kiss him on the cheek and he returns the kiss with one of his own
>"i missed you too my beautiful wife."
>your eyes meet and you feel the same as when the two of you started dating
"Shining I-"
>Flurry cuts your conversation short with a giggle and squeal
>"oh, and i missed you too my little sweetheart!"
>Shining carefully takes Flurry heart from you and gives her some loving and attention
>what about you?..
>you have waited just as long as she has..
>you shake your head pushing the thoughts away
>Flurry is your baby, of course Shining missed her too.
>tonight once she is in bed.. you'll get all the attention you want.
>and so will he.
>or maybe not..
>whenever you or shining start to get.. close, flurry wakes back up and cries
>shining starts to get up from the bed again
"dont worry shining. ill take care of it. its my turn anyway."
>he gives you a soft smile and gets back into bed
>"thank you baby"
>you love that he still calls you baby
>you crawl out of bed and are sure to sway your hips just right as you leave the room
 
Night 5:
>its been weeks since you and shining have been able to be close.
>and Flurry has been getting all of his attention
>its not fair, you're his wife!
>you look at yourself in the mirror
>what is wrong with you?!
>why do you keep acting like this?..
>why cant you love your child like Shining does?
>down the hall you can hear Flurry crying again
"ill be right there sweetie! mommy's coming"
>well no time to brush your hair..
>you make your way to Flurry's room as she lay in her crib
>once you come into view she stops crying and giggles at you
>you sit with her a while until she starts to fall asleep again, then start your way back to your room
>just as you touch the bed Flurry cries again.
>you let out a annoyed sigh and look to shining fast asleep
>boy is he lucky..
"im coming baby"
>just as you come into view again Flurry stops crying
>she looks at you with a smile and giggles again
>you smile back and slowly rock the crib
>this is just a fun game to her...
"its ok baby.. mommy is here."
 
Night 6:
>its your anniversary tonight
>and you have asked twilight to come and babysit Flurry Heart while you and shining go out
"i cant wait Shining! its been forever since we have been on a date."
>your husband chuckles and starts getting dressed up
>"just wait Cadence, i have a whole night planned for the two of us! and it starts when Twilight comes through that door."
>your heart is a flutter
>the last time you were this excited you got a child out of it.
>speaking of.
>you look over to Flurry fast asleep in her crib
>she went to bed really easily tonight, you and Shining have spent all day playing with her and shes exhausted
>you smile at your child and there is a knock at the door.
>"that must be twilly!"
"ill get it"
>you walk over to the door eager to greet your temporary savior
>but when you open the door its not Twilly, its a royal guard instead with a letter
"yes?"
>"a message from Princess Twilight Sparkle"
>the guard holds out the letter for you to take it
>you do, and he gives a salute before departing
>quickly you read the letter
>and the news isnt good...
>Twilight, despite being incredibly sorry, will be unable to come and babysit for tonight and tomorrow
>of course not..
>"well who was it Cadence?"
>you turn back to your well dressed and smiling husband
>hes so handsome..
"it was a guard.. Twilight couldnt make it tonight.. and shes deeply sorry.."
>"oh.."
>Shining deflates at the news
>"i see.."
>he turns to Flurry asleep in her crib in the next room
>"well i guess we will have to reschedule.."
"yeah i guess so.."
 
Night(day) 7; very early morning
 
>Shining has left for guard duty early
>the sound of the door closing behind him wakes you from your rest.
>you dont leave your bed as you listen to the sound of his hoofsteps echo down the hall
>you lay there in silence and thought for a long time
>your eyes never leave the window in front of you
>before your eyes the calm night sky turns into the warm morning shine
>you always liked mornings..
>they remind you of a new beginning
"a new beginning..."
>you smile softly at the thought
>your moment of happiness is cut short by the sound of a waking child
>there is your alarm clock.. right on time... like ALWAYS
>you pull yourself out of bed with a smile on your face
>you shouldnt be upset.. today is a new day!
"dont worry.. mommy is coming."
>you walk down the hall to the child room where Flurry Heart calls
>as you reach her crib she smiles up at you and waves her hooves around playfully
"hey baby"
>she lets out a squeal of hello and accidentally knocks a pillow over her face
"oops! let mommy get that."
>you gently take the pillow and lift it off of her face
"peekaboo!"
>Flurry giggles and reaches for the pillow again and places it over her face
>you smile back at her and take it off again
"peekaboo!"
>softly you place it back
>then pull it away
"peekaboo!"
>Flurry squeals and giggles with glee at your game
>you place the pillow back on her face.
"a new beginning..."
>you look at the pillow on your child..
>instead of pulling it off you push it down a bit
>Flurry gives a curious giggle..
>then soon a small cough
>you smile at the pillow in your hooves.
"its ok baby.. mommy is here..."
>Flurrys hooves start to move around
>you keep the pillow held
>and eventually the movement stops.. as does the coughing
>you lift the pillow again.
"peekaboo..."
>and you are greeted with silence.
