Impossible! >You open her door and see her prostrate form lying on a hospital bed. >She was out cold and her horn was wrapped in glowing blue bandages. >You make your way over to her bedside and sit in the seat next to her bed. >You had no idea how this happened, but you were going to find out. >For now though, you just wanted to make sure Vinyl was going to be ok. >You pull out your iPod and speakers and play a song, (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wRv1f_PnE0Q) >You keep the music down, but it helps with your feelings. >You had always loved Eminem, and listening to it allowed you some clarity of thought. >It hurt to imagine it, but if Vinyl didn’t have the ability to use magic, it would be almost impossible for her to work the tables. >It would basically render her useless to just about any club. >And it was all your fault. >If you hadn’t brought her to Canterlot, she would be safe and sound in Ponyville still. >If you had thought to ask what her plans were this morning and found out she was doing a public show, you could have sent some of the bouncers to keep a watch over her. >You had been so wrapped up in finances, you hadn’t noticed when the mare you had fallen in love with was about to do something dangerous. >You had no right to call yourself her boyfriend. >You just hoped she would forgive you when she woke up. >You listen to the music and, eventually, fall asleep with you head nestled next to hers.   >You are Vinyl. >And you have the worst headache ever. >It was worse than any hangover you had ever had. >You open your eyes and see you are in a hospital room. >You try to move your head, but you encounter some resistance. >You look to your right and see Anon, snuggling his head up next to yours. >He was adorable looking when he was asleep… his face free from concern. >You could look at his face like that forever, but your movement seemed to jostle him awake. >”Huh?” >He looks into your eyes and he jumps back. >”Vinyl, you’re awake!” >You laugh, some things never change… still as subtle as ever. “Yeah, I’m fine apart from a huge headache.” >As soon as you said this his face grew dark and he stopped looking at you. >What could affect him so strongly? “Anon, what’s wrong?” >He cautiously looks back to you and remains silent. >This genuinely worried you, because Anon was hardly ever silent. “Anon… tell me.” >You gave him the best puppy dog eyes you could muster right then, and it worked. >”The doctors say your body will heal in time from the punishment you took… but your horn may have been irreparably damaged… you may never use your magic again.” >His words shook you to your core… never use magic again? >You refused to believe it, you reached for the magic in you and tried to channel it… and felt a mind numbing pain rock your body. “AHHHHHH!!!’ >The pain was bad enough you lost consciousness for a few moments, and Anon was calling the doctors at the top of his lungs when you resurfaced. >A doctor and two nurses rushed into the room and surveyed the scene with the eyes of professionals and quickly restrained you. >”Ms. Scratch, please refrain from trying to use magic right now, you could wind up making your injuries worse!” >After they applied some healing magic to you and the pain receded, you were able to utter some more coherent sentences. “My…magic…what…about my… magic?” >The doctor’s face was grave as he delivered the news he obviously didn’t want to deliver. >”You may never be able to use it again… the odds are stacked against you.” >Anon spoke up, “What are the odds… give it to us straight!” >Anon sure had a way with words. >”I would say there was a 10% chance of full recovery, 20% chance of partial recovery and 70% chance of complete loss of magic.” >Hearing it like that was soul crushing. >You had almost no hope of ever running at full capacity ever again. >In all likelihood you would be unable to DJ again, and that was the worst part. >DJ-ing was your life, it was what made you you so to speak. >The doctor checked your vitals in silence, probably didn’t want to compound his bad news with anything else. >Almost as soon as he left, Anon grabed you in a hug and cried, “I’m so sorry Vinyl… this is all my fault!” >You were stunned, how was this his fault? >He seemed to read your mind as he continued, “If I had paid attention to you this morning and asked what you were doing, I could have assigned some of the bouncers to keep an eye on you!” >Now you understood what he was driving at. >But you couldn’t blame him at all, it was your fault for not thinking. “Anon, it’s not your fault… it’s mine! >He looked like he was losing his mind, “But if I hadn’t dragged you to Canterlot, you wouldn’t be in this hospital bed… you would be safe in Ponyville!” >Anypony could see this was eating at Anon from the inside out, and you were not going to let it! “You listen to me! If you hadn’t “dragged” me out here, I wouldn’t have had the greatest performance in my career and I wouldn’t have met the greatest guy I have ever met!” >He seems to regain some composure and asks, “So you really don’t blame me?” “Of course I don’t you goof, if I did would I even be talking to you right now?” >He seemed to take a moment to process this and shook his head. >You loved the guy, but wow he could be dense. >Just part of his charm you guess. >You were feeling incredibly tired with all the excitement, and decided to take a nap. “Anon, I’m feeling wiped, mind if I get some sleep?” >He shook his head, almost violently, and replied, “No, go ahead and get some sleep… I’ll be right here!” >It was probably selfish to keep him here, he probably had some important stuff to take care of, but you didn’t care right then and there… you were just happy to have him with you. >Anon picks you up carefully and gets underneath you. >He places you on his chest and holds you in his arms. >You had never been one for sentimentality… but you could get used to this. >You feel asleep in his arms… feeling much better about the future as long as he would continue to hold you like this.   >You are Anon. >And you have to admit… everything went better than expected. >You had never understood women… that much you knew. >But you had fully expected Vinyl to accuse you of failing her in her time of need. >To say that it was all your fault, and you would have agreed with her. >Then, out of nowhere, she said it wasn’t your fault and gave you hope that maybe things can continue between the two of you. >You had never been one for romance… but you could get used to this. >Laying here, with Vinyl in your arms, you felt better about the future… as long as you had her in your arms. >You wondered if she felt the same way as you drifted off to sleep with her snuggled in your arms.
