[0:02] Speaking of regression, how can I not talk about television and more particularly of an animated series born in the 80s which, 30 years later, causes a serious agitation on the Internet. Plenty of details, no later than right now.

[0:21] First of all, My Little Pony is an animated series in the 80s, which has been very successful -- particularly among very young girls. But in 2010, a new version dawns and this one caters to a much more adult and much more consenting audience.

[0:44] My Little Pony is that overpopular show with six overcute ponies, whose principal message is "Friendship is Magic". But the most magic thing, is this:
 
[0:56] Voilà. Five young men from Paris, who love to transfrom into something we call "bronies". *side look* "Bro" like brothers, "ny" like pony. They represent a new generation of megafans.
 
[1:11] I am Soarin, captain of the Wonderbolts, which means I'm the equivalent of  the Patrouille de France (/French Acrobatic Patrol - https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Patrouille_de_France/) but with ponies
 
[1:18] My character is King Sombra, a big bad guy from Season 3. I like him a lot for his looks, his "bad guy" aesthetics, and he allows me to perform neat choregraphies
 
[1:26] And I am Hoity Toity, the offspring of Karl Lagerfeld and a pony. My mission: better understand these boys' passion for this show for little girls.
 
[1:38] Some people like Pixar, some people like Disney -- it's just... it might look childish, but we like ponies.
 
[1:45] But I loved Snow White when I was a kid, and I never went outside dressed up as Snow White in the streets
[1:51] LIAR!
 
[1:53] We are bat ponies. We're called bat ponies because -- obviously -- we have bat wings
 
[1:59] Going after people, trying to get them to watch the show because it has nice morals about friendship -- pft -- that's for fags
 
[2:06] I chose to disguise as Daring Do -- which is basically an Indiana Jones reference. Given that I'm really into that, the choice was simple.
 
[2:15] The point of being an adult, isn't it to stop trying to prove the world you're a big guy?
 
[2:20] You know what? He might be right
 
[2:23] Among the half-million of self-proclamated bronies, half of them are american. One of them is even running for President.
[2:33] Here we are in Manhatten to attend one of the biggest brony conventions

[2:43] Little ponies, big business. The franchise brings 650 million per year -- not surprising when you know that some fans can pay up to 200 dollars for something this strange. [cue fluffle puff plushie]

[2:56] But the bronies' convention isn't just for shopping. It's about expressing  your inner little pony. And who are we to say that ponies shouldn't wear underwear, huh?
 
[3:06] I think it's fun to disguise. Everyone wants to hug me, hoofbump me and such. I've always wanted to remain a child when I grow up. [Probably not his exact words, I can't hear what the guy says over the french dub]
 
[3:17] You can also take an animation course, or follow an interview with Lauren Faust, the creator of My Little Pony. Needless to say -- God's voice to the fans.
 
[3:28] [What the dub says, not her] When I proposed this project for a new show, I had to argue really hard to convince my bosses that it's not just a show for 6-year-old little girls.
 
[3:40] A few fun facts about bronies. The average brony is 21 years old. Only 5% of them are married. 3 out of 4 still live with their parents.
 
[3:53] I think they can be friends.
 
[3:55] I will always be a child. I'll still play Lego when I'm 80.
 
[3:59] All of the bronies are also something else in life. I'm not just a fan of LMy Little Pony -- I'm an environmentalist. I can be both.
 
[4:09] A lot of bronies made a job out of their passion. We call them "pronies".
 
[4:18] My girlfriend -- now my wife -- got me into the show. She knew I loved the Powerpuff Girls, so one day we watched My Little Pony and we found it great. So we watched it all from the beginning. And because we're musicians, we created a band and songs inspired from the series.
 
[4:37] The show teaches you everyday life lessons. If you're kind to people, others will be kind in return.
 
[4:52] This is magnificent. Absolutely magnificent.
 
[4:55] The one who reunites bronies and pronies is Keith Butler. As the    
organizer, he has to hug every participant. Every single one.
 
[5:04] We get to hug each other *audible smiling face* so it's fun
 
[5:10] I get to have rainbow hair. And being an adult. We like colorful things, we like fantasy -- it doesn't make us children. It makes us free.
 
[5:22] And of course, nothing evokes freedom more than a disco dancefloor full of sweaty bronies. Keith -- who DJs most conventions -- says the mix between ponies and people is a lot less sordid than people imagine.
 
[5:35] The most common belief is that there's a sexual part in this -- when the exact opposite is true. Any of the activities we have could be done at dinner time. [With our families]
 
[5:38] Speaking of family, Keith has invited his brony friends and -- obviously -- starts with giving hugs to everyone.

[6:22] My peer group is a lot of men who haven't really come to terms with their feelings yet. It's very pleasant to be in company of guys who show their sensibility, and hug each other.
