"Today was a wonderful day!  I never realized just how hard I was studying and working before today.  I guess I was so caught up in trying to become familiar with this world and my new form that I kind of forgot about basic things like going out for a fun night.  Celestia and Luna closed court early tonight and invited me to join them for a concert being put on by a famous orchestra.  Needless to say I jumped at the chance to spend more time with them and give the work a rest.   We arrived at the theater shortly after Luna turned the day to night.  The Princesses and I were allowed in past the line and ticket office without question.  I know those two get priveledges, being the rulers of the land, but I guess they just assumed I was royalty too because I'm an alicorn.  Or, was?  At least in part?  Still not sure how that is defined.   Anyway, the night was nice and the orchestra was spectacular.  Most of the rock, metal, and electric bands back on Earth couldn't hope to hold a candle to the kind of portrayal this group managed.  It made for some great quality time spent with Celestia."   --------------------   >You and the Princesses are trotting through the lobby.  It's a large, grandiose room with elaborate decorations, high-quality paintings of various ponies with instruments, and fancy carpets. >Damn these carpets are soft. >"Anon?" >Oh shit you were standing awestruck. uh...coming! >Celestia smiles and Luna giggles.  You try to ignore it. >"Have you ever attended concerts where you were from?" Not like this, no. >Celestia raised an eyebrow.  Luna spoke the question. >"What were they like, then?" They were...um...well I'd have to try to explain to you a whole different genre of music for it to make any sense, and I don't think I can really do that. >The three of you come to the bottom of a flight of stairs, sectioned off by classy velvet ropes with a unicorn emloyee stading in front of them.  As you and the Princesses approach, he bows and magics aside the ropes. >Oh fuck stairs. >Celestia nudges you in the side; you apparently stopped in front of them and Luna had already been ascending. >You look up at Celestia, worried.  Her face is adorned with that warm smile that reassures you. >You got this. >Step. Step. >Back legs now. Stepstep. Stepstep. >Alright, yo-OHSHIT YOU DON'T GOT THIS   >Good thing Celestia's got you, though.  You started to fall to the side but instead Celestia had been next to you, supporting you from falling. >Damn this is embarassing but you keep up the pace, reassured by Celestia's presence.  You see Luna at the top, stone cold face showing no indication as to what she's thinking. >She's probably annoyed waiting for your dumb ass to walk up stairs. >Your gaze falls to the floor as you continue the walk, now on flat ground, too embarassed to look at Luna or Celestia.  That is, until Luna speaks up. >"Anonymous, I think I understand what you meant about the music." >You manage to look up at her.  Maybe she was just figuring out what you had meant? >"Would you say it is...more, active?"  She's careful about her word choice. Yeah, that's pretty accurate, why? >"Hm.  I'll explain later, we're here." Sure enough, the Princesses stop in front of a doorway. >As you enter, you see the theater in its glory.  The room is huge; way larger than you thought a theater could and would reasonably be.  Canterlot must spare no expense to be impressive. >The booth you're in has three of the fancy pillows you've seen the Princesses sit on in the throne room.  The booth itself is situated close to the stage, raised above the normal seating.  There is a thin veil over the edge of the balcony, likely intended to provide some privacy to the booth while allowing its inhabitants to see the rest of the theater. >One-way veils, what? Magic, that's how.   >You three are seated with Celestia in the middle, Luna to her left and you on her right.  The stage is down to the left of the balcony. >It appears that your little episode with the stairs took your time right up until the show started.  A white-furred stallion in some sort of ponified tuxedo gives an intro speech you didn't really listen to. >"...and finally, without further ado, please welcome tonight's star performer, Octavia, and her special guest, Lyra Heartstrings!" >Instead of the normal applause you were expecting, you can hear pounding as the crowd stamps the ground with their hooves.  Oh right, no hands. >As the music starts, you can't help but tune it out.  You never were one for classical music, and you didn't know anyone that was. >You don't set your mind to solving some particular problem or pondering the workings of magic.  You completely relax into a calm sort of semi-consciousness, dimly aware of the movements of the orchestra below you. >"Oh, that was grand, wasn't it?" Celestia brings you back to Equestria as the piece is apparently transitioning to its last movement. Uh...yeah, it was really....um, full of feeling! Yeah. >She chuckles. "I understand if you're not into this.  It has fallen out of popularity with younger audiences, from what I understand." Sorry...it is really nice to just... >"Relax and wander?" At least she understands. You give a nod and she turns back to the stage. >For the first time you actually give a good look down at the main performers.  The entire orchestra is holding a chord as the audience applauds.  One of them is a grey earth pony mare with black hair and a purple bow-tie holding a cello.  The other is a mint-green unicorn mare sitting in a rather human-like pose against the wall of the stage.  Their eyes were closed, completely engrossed in their playing. >When the applause reached its climax, the two simultaneously opened their eyes and looked directly at you. >Not just at the booth, not at the Princesses, you could have sworn they were looking directly at you despite the veil.   >They broke the gaze, looking at each other with blank expressions, before closing their eyes and going back to the music.  The audience stopped their...clapping? Clopping? No, you're fairly certain that means something else. Whatever. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uAKaym1gx3I >Needless to say, you're paying attention now. >The two get into it, just the two of them playing.  The music is gripping, pulling empathy from within you. >You don't know if they are really playing this for you personally or not, but it starts to bring some wetness to your eyes. >The emotion you haven't really acknowledged that much is starting to rear itself to the forefront of your consciousness.  You close your eyes as the music sinks in. >You were dropped into this world, pulled from your old one, with no connections.  And yet, the wonderful soul now sitting next to you gladly took you in, gave you food and shelter, and is now since your change of body is even acting as... >You smile, some of the tears having escaped.  It's not strictly a sad feeling. >You're shaken out of it by a light sniffle to your left.  The music is hitting home with Celestia as well. >You lean into her, head on her shoulder.  Her muscles tense under you, but it's alright; she's shown you nothing but affection and it's time you reciprocated. >You can feel her relax and she arcs her neck down around your head, bringing her wing around in an embrace and you do the same. >The two of you sit like this the rest of the performance, enjoying the moment. >Almost like... >Mother and son.
