I'd rather not get overly political in this post, however take it with a grain of salt. Society is inherently flawed. We value our own hedonistic desires over the lives and happiness of others, just as long as it doesn't affect us. Society has no semblance of privacy and community anymore. Even within the context of the consumerist garbage that populates our pockets and our desks, any fundamental good is utterly lacking. I can easily point out flaws with computers, phones, modern cars, and just about anything else; however I struggle to find positive aspects of modern society. Protocols that everyone uses; such as HTTP, FTP, IRC, TCP AND UDP, are utterly terrible. Yet they are so ingrained in our day-to-day lives (even if you don't see them) and our technology that any attempts to phase them out with better ones will fail. Computer hardware which is in very common use, such as SATA, USB and ACPI are also remarkably bad, but yet again; the previous point applies. Our vehicles run non-free software, and the police can almost certainly disable modern vehicles at a whim. Politically, people will vote for anyone who grants them their hedonistic desires; even if it means the death of children and innocents on the other side of the world. Fake issues dominate the American political landscape. The worst part is, however, that I seem to be the only one who sees this. I know it sounds overused, but everybody has this delusional sense of optimism; and in a way I wish I could be as delusional as the rest of society. It becomes rather maddening to have such extreme levels of cynicism, yet I am incapable of doing anything. Maybe I will continue this later, maybe not.
