Rainbow Dash could hear the rain falling below her, as she sat on the gray cloud in the sky.  You weren't supposed to stand on rainclouds, but there was no lighting scheduled and she really didn't care right now anyways.  As she sat there, she thought of her friends.  The friends that she used to spent so much time with.  Those were good memories.  Happy memories.  She needed more happy right now.  But instead, all she had were memories of happyness, alone.           It started when Discord got loose once again.  He had big plans, but those didn't matter.  Twilight had gotten better with her magic, and she knew exactly when he would break out of his stone prison.  Right as he got loose, the six friends turned him right back to stone again, no sweat.  After the crisis was averted, the group went out to celebrate at Sugarcube Corner, and they had some apple cider to go with it.  All Rainbow Dash remembered from that night was the beginning of the celebration, but after that was a blur.  The next day, however, she had a headache, and all of her friends seemed off.  Distant.  Dash herself didn't know why everyone was acting weird, and she also noticed Pinkie wasn't hopping around Ponyville like she usually did.  She hadn't seen Pinkie all day, actually, and got awkward responses from the rest of her friends when she asked what was wrong.           Dash gave up doing anything with her friends that day, and decided to chill in the park instead.  When she got there, she ran into Pinkie.           "Hey Pinkie," she said, "I've been looking for you!  The others have been acting weird today, I mean, what happened last night?!  I can't remember a thing!"         "Oh, they're just being silly, silly!" Pinkie replied, being her usual hyper self, "I may have had a bit too much cider last night and said some...  Things...  But they should get over it in no time!"           After that day, those many years ago, whenever Dash brought up Pinkie in conversation with her other friends, they always gave her strange looks.  She eventually stopped mentioning her at all.  She still liked to hang out with her favorite prankster pony, but never got the chance to hang with all of her friends together anymore.   They were drifting apart.  They were drifting apart, and she was the only one trying to hold them together, but it wasn't working.  She tried so hard to remain loyal to all of her friends, but couldn't make the time.  No matter how fast she went, there was not enough time.  If only there had been more time...           About a year after her friends drifted apart, when it happened.  Applejack had collapsed while working the farm.  She was trying to harvest all the apples on her own, and had a heat stroke.  There was nopony around, and it was so hot...  Dash dropped by to see what AJ was up to, but Applebloom said she was missing.  By the time Dash found her, she was cold.  How was she so cold, when it was so hot?             The funeral was the first time she saw all of her friends together in the same place in months.  All except for Pinkie Pie.  She wasn't invited.  What could she have said that day...?  After AJ, the four of them started to hang out again.  There was still no mentioning Pinkie, but four was better than one at a time.  At least, it should have been.  The four had changed so much, and were unbalanced.  The team had broken long ago, and the remaining four could not peice it together.  They inevitably drifted again.           Although she made efforts to spend time with all of them, she ended up hanging out with Pinkie the most.  Pinkie was the only one who never seemed to change.  They would prank others around Ponyville, eat candy and cupcakes and other sweets, and even just talk.  But even though Pinkie hadn't changed, it still felt off.  Maybe Dash herself had changed, too, and she just hadn't noticed.           Years passed, with Dash only seeing here other friends every once in a blue moon.  She has been on the verge of depression for a while, but Pinkie has somehow managed to keep her sane.  That is, until another of her friends passed.  Rarity's dresses had been in high demand, and the pony got overwhelmed and underslept.  Opalescence had knocked over some water sitting on a window sill without Rarity noticing, and it trickled down to the electrical outlet one of her sewing machines was plugged into.  Rarity didn't notice the fire alarm until it was too late.  By the time the fire was doused, she had died from the smoke inhalation.             The news of another friend passing sent Dash over the edge into a depression that lasted days.  She didn't even go to Rarity's funeral.  Pinkie was by Dash's side until she snapped out of her depression, but it took it's toll.  Once you have been depressed, there is always a part of you that stays that way, making it a little bit easier to slip back into depression each time.  No amount of pills or pink ponies can cure that.             Dash tried once again to connect with her other two friends, but to no avail.  They had competely separated, and though they were willing to have lunch once every week or so, they had their own lives.  This did not stop Dash from trying, however.  Once Dash put her mind to something, it took a lot to make her stop.  But when she showed up and Fluttershy's house to see her and the Wonderbolt Soarin on a date, and had Fluttershy take her aside and yell at her for interrupting, Dash gave up.  Fluttershy had changed too much, and was no longer the pegasus she once knew.           Twilight was a different story, however.  While Fluttershy was busy with her life, Twilight was busy with her work.  She was back in Canterlot, working directly under the princesses now.  She was a very important pony, so she did not have much free time to spend with Dash.  But she did spend as much of it as she could with her.  If not for those few days a month, along with Pinkie the rest of the time, Dash would have gone insane.           Later on down the road, Fluttershy had started her own family with Soarin, and Twilight was the Head of the Royal Archives.  Dash was still lost in the past, pranking ponies occasionally with Pinkie.  It was as if she hadn't moved on from when her friends had all been together.  She had indeed moved on, but she was trying to hold on to the last bit of the past she had left, never going more than a day without being with Pinkie.  Pinkie, her best friend after all these years.  How many had it been now?  It felt like centuries, but was more like a decade.  She tried not to think about how young her two frineds had been when they died, and instead focused on her life.  Her life that hadn't really gone anywhere over those 10 years.  She didn't really care, she was happy just being with Pinkie.  Wasn't she?           It had been 5 years since she last talked to Fluttershy.  She had tried sending her letters asking how  she was doing, but got no replies.  She still had the occasional lunch with Twilight, but she tried not to push her way into Twilight's life as she did with Fluttershy.  She knew where that road led.  But she still enjoyed her lunches with her.  She wanted nothing more to have Pinkie there too, though.  It had been so long, maybe Twilight would be more open to the idea now?  She decided that she was going to bring it up at their next lunch.           Dash and Twilight were sitting at a table in Pony Joe's, enjoying a cup of coffee.  "So um, Twi, I've been thinking..." Said Dash, as she took another sip of her coffee.         "What is it, Dash?"         "Well, I was wondering if... Maybe... Pinkie could join us next time?  She really misses you..."         "W-what?  Dash, w-"         "Oh come on Twi!  Don't sound so suprised!  Whatever happened was so long ago!  I can' believe you would just abandon her over what happened over just one night!  I don't even remember what happened, but I know I would never alienate her over it!"         "Dash, I don't think you-"         "Just stop making excuses!" Dash yelled, slamming her hooves on the table and causeing everypony there to look at her.  "JUST TELL ME WHY!  WHY HAVE ALL OF YOU IGNORED HER FOR SO LONG?!  TELL ME!"         "Because she died that night, Rainbow Dash!  She died, and she's been dead!  You both had a lot of cider to drink, we all did, but you two more then us.  You thought it would be a good idea to let her ride on your back as you did a Sonic Rainboom.  You couldn't gain enough speed to break the sound barrior with the extra weight, and when you pulled up to fly parallel to the ground, Pinkie slipped off your back!  You turned back to look, hit a tree, and passed out!  You killed her, Dash!  You didn't mean to, but you did!  And you didn't even remember!  We tried not to talk about her around you, but you kept bringing her up!  It wasn't fair how you got to be the one to not remember that night!  You caused us to break apart, Dash.  It was you."         Dash just stared at her, shocked, and then flew outside and away from everypony.  Twilight tried to call after her, but she didnt care.  She flew up to the clouds, as it started to rain. She then had a sudden realisation  She stood up, and walked towards the edge of the cloud.  But suddenly, Pinkie appeared next to her.         "Dash... I'm... I'm so sorry I didn't tell you..."         "Go away, you aren't even real!"         "No, I'm not, I am just a manifestation of your subconscious mind, but I still care about you!  You know better than this, this is not what she would want!"         "I don't care anymore.  She's dead.  I killed her.  Applejack's dead, Rarity is dead, Fluttershy has forgotten about me and has her own family now, and Twilight hates me for breaking everyone up.  I have nothing left to live for."         "As long as you are alive, you have something to live for!"         "And that is why I will not be alive much longer." She said, as she reached the edge.  just like that, Pinkie vanished.  She stood at the edge, looking at how far down the ground was, and jumped off.  And she angled herself down, and flew.  Faster than she ever has.  There was a Sonic Rainboom, but she kept flying down.  Down faster and faster.  She was going to keep going until she hit the ground.  She opened her ees right before impact, and the last thing she saw was the horrified face of Twilight, right after she teleported to near where she would land.  Then everything went black.             Twilight sat in the hospital room with Fluttershy.  Rainbow Dash was hooked up to a machine, the only thing keeping her alive.           "I should have been faster... Maybe then I could have slowed her down enough with my magic to save her..."         "Now now Twilight, you musn't blame yourself for her decision.  You did what you could, and it was more than anypony could have expected."         "I know, but I still can't help but feel it was my fault... If I hadn't have snapped at her..."         "No, she knew it all along, somewhere deep down inside of her, she knew..."         They just looked on at their comatose friend, laying in that hospital bed, breathing through a tube.  In her arms, there was a custom made doll of Pinkie Pie.  She seemed to hug it a little bit tighter, as she smiled, and the heart monitor showed a straight line.  Twilight and Fluttershy both began to cry, and nurses and doctors rushed into the room.  They tried to bring her back, but she had been gone for a long time.                                                     The End.
