DAYBREAKS HUNT;   As Daybreak went looking for the signup desk for the Hunting tourney, she spotted it up north outside the ramshackle wall around the northern tennant fields.   It was a well built stand, manned by two griffons, a large sign above it reading “HUNTING TOURNAMENT SIGNUPS HERE” in fancy lettering.   The mare went up to the stand and propped herself up on it, " Hunting, eh? Aight, let's give it a shot. "   “OH? Wonderful! Always glad to have more contestants!” the male griffon said, turning to her and handing her a document. “Just fill this out please!”   The Document asked for some simple information.  Name, address, age, race, coloring, if your in a team and with who, please sign here to aknowledge the Hunting Guild isnt responsible for any injuries, maiming, or death....   She fills it out with the standard info, Daybreak, 17, earthie, brown and pink but pink and white are my favorite colors, team consists of me, myself and I. " Alright, when do I start? "   “Ah, wonderful!” he says, taking the document from her. “Hrm, well, we dont really point our contestants in a direction, as all the jungles good hunting grounds! However we do offer you a hunting spear and two javelins if you wish, aswell as remind your to follow our three simple rules: First, you cannot interrupt another hunters Hunt. Second, only one Game may be turned in per team. Third, have fun and be careful!”   “Oh come now, pointing the poor girl in a direction isnt against the rules!” The female griffon says, leaning over the stand to look at Day. “What you looking to hunt lil missy? I might be able to point you in the right direction, but generally the southern jungle is chock full of many a interesting critter!”   She takes a moment to think, " Well...I'd like to see something colorful. This is a magical world afterall..."   “Well, plenty of things are colorful....hmmm...” The female Griffon taps her chin, thinking, until she points upwards with excitement. “Oh! I heard one hunter say he saw some giant, colorful birds to the southeast, towards the lighter jungle. There was also a humor of a 'shimmering rainbow the eye can hardly catch' down south near the shore!”   “Also heard someone say somethin pretty was munching on the spices in the southern hillands, big ol thing, kinda like a large moth I think?” The male griffon ads in, shrugging.   She slams her hoof down on the table, eyes glittering, " TO THE SHORE. Oh, I'll also take the hunting spear too. "   “Right-o!” the female Griffon says with a smile, digging through some stuff behind them and producing a simple spear, handing it to Day. “Have fun!” she says with a little wave.   She salutes to them with a grin and heads out toward the shore with her saddlebags and spear.   It was a simple enough task getting to the shore, but as she did she saw very little sign of activity, besides a few ponies quickly left behind as she got further and further from the town.   [Roll for perception, d20] Day,16   As Day continued trekking along the beach, she blinks, spotting, just for a moment, a whisper of a rainbow to her left in the trees, a single leaf fluttering to the ground to signify something having been there.   She also blinks in surprise as she sees some sorta large, fat, gray thing ahead in the shallows of the water, for a minute looking like a rock before she saw it twitch a bit.   Day would suck in her breath after seeing a very brief glimpse of color, and carefully moved toward the left. She'd crouch down and keep on alert for anymore movement.   [another roll for perception, d20] Day,12   As you near the trees, once again for just a moment you see a shimmering of light, but its gone just as fast.   However, you notice the tree it came from is a fruit tree, oranges or something similar, a path straight through it in about a four foot circle cleared of fruit.   Day cursed internally then remembered to breath again. She heads up to the tree, picking up one of the fruits. Noticing the circle of no fruit, she tries looking up into the tree to see anything.   She doesn't spot anything at first, until another sudden sight of rainbow appears and only about a foot above her head another area of fruit is cleared suddenly.   Looking around, she spots a few more fruit trees with similar areas of missing fruit in them.   She tilts her head. Was this thing invisible or what? The mare starts gathering more of the fruit, then tosses it upward above her head.   [perception roll! D20, 7+ pass, 12+ success] Day,5, re-roll was same 1/3   While you see a rainbow shimmer and the fruit disappear, you cant catch were it headed off to, not even the direction!   She gasps, then decides to head for the bushes nearby and lay low. She'd sit there for a moment and keep alert to the area.   [perception again, d20+2 for getting used to it and being a patient lil pony. 7+ pass, 12+ success] Day,14   You see a few more shimmers and more missing fruit, until finally you catch the direction it heads in most of the time, before finally, though only fro a moment, you spot it fully!   Off to the right, in the biggest tree, you spot it entering a large hole in the trunk. You didn't get a perfect look, but it was at least twice the size of you, closer to three, and was covered in something between feathers and long, wispy hair, shimmering like a rainbow in the light, though with a pink undertone.   You spotted at least six limbs and a tail, with some skin inbetween the six legs, though you didn't catch its head.   "Oh cool..." she whispers when she sees it. She makes her move over to the tree on the right...   She'd then take her rope out of her saddlebag, and throw it up at a nearby, thick and sturdy looking treebranch. If it made it up there, she'd tug on it to make sure it was secure enough, and the try to walk/climb up the tree using the branch to hopefully hold her weight.   [roll for climbing speed, d20, 9+ success, 1- crit fail] Day,10-success   Day Makes it up fairly quickly, and just as she gets her hooves up onto a nearby branch to pull herself up, a shimmer of rainbow goes by, cutting the rope!   Lucky she is still able to get up and onto a branch just below and next to the hole.   " Gah! Fff...you little bugger...." she whispers through her teeth, after thankfully able to grab onto that branch. She sits on the branch for a bit quietly to give it sometime to calm down. Then, she'd take out one of the fruits she picked up and gently toss it into the hole. After she did this, she would move out of the way quickly and watch to see what happens.   As she nears the hole though, suddenly the shimmer hits her, but instead of pain she just feels sudden whiplash, before suddenly her world is a blur, and shes suddenly sitting back on the ground.   Looking up, the thing sits on the branch she was just on, and drops the fruit right onto Days head with a 'SPLAT' the thing giggling at her.   Its head was somewhat akin to a squirrel, but with a longer snout. She also noticed it had claws, clearly made for grabbing, not cutting, but still looked quite dangerous.   The Thing sticks its tongue out at her, before using its claw to cut free the rope still left on its branch, and turns and hops into its hole!   Day looked around at her surroundings, taking her a moment she realize where she was. Wasn't she just up there? When she saw the thing on the tree laughing at her, she pouted, " Oi! You litte...! " though "little" would not be the appropriate word. She looked around to see what she could use to get back up there. "...or...." she took some of the fruit she picked up and picked up more around the area. Then, a bit away from the area, she'd dig a hole, gather some leaves and branches to cover the hole, then make a trail of fruit leading to the hole. She knew hunting was something that took time, and would hide in a nearby bush to wait.   It takes a good, long part of the day to setup the trap, Day noticing the thing shimmer by once or twice getting more fruit.   However finally the trap was ready! Waiting she watched, and a few minutes later....nothing happened. Then, after only dropping her attention for a moment, she hears a 'CRACK' and sees the thing halfway stuck in her trap, quickly clawing the rest of itself out!   Quickly, she leaps out of the bushes in attempt to jump the beast!   [d20, 8+ pass, 14+ success, 2- crit fail] day,19-success   With the swiftness of the wind, Day is out and at the beast, able to use the slight moment to whip out her spear and give it a good jab.   With a yelping sound, the thing disappears in the blur, dragging Day a good twenty feet as her spear gets stuck for a moment, but looking at the spear and blood, she got a good, deep hit into the thing!   Hearing a crash, she sees the thing struggling to climb a nearby tree, still extremely quick but its wound slowing it down enough to follow its movements.   She cringed as she felt the blade of the spear pierced it's body then that feeling passed when she was dragged along. While it tries to climb the tree, she tries to go for it again, in the heat of the moment to keep it from going any further.   [d20, +2 for its injury and panic, 8+ pass, 15+ success] Day,re-roll,10-pass 2/3   Awhile not quite fast enough, she manages to scare the thing as she misses it, it doing a backflip over her head and landing behind her, panting as it gets ready to defend itself! It looks like the definition of 'no happy with you' as it stares you down.   She stares it down as well, uttering a "S-sorry..." dropping her spear, going unarmed and instead goes rushing into the creature aiming to give it a kick.   [d20 to hit, +1 from skill, 9+ pass, 13+ success, 2- crit fail] Day,20-success   The creature goes in for a swipe, but both Days skills and its misjudgment end with it being in the perfect place for Day to swing around, giving it a HARD, painful kick upwards into its jaw, to which Day hears a loud cracking and the thing tumbles backwards a good few feet.   Looking at it, it is still alive, but its jaw is hanging limply as it struggles to its feet, clearly intending ot fight til its last breath.   She flinches hearing the crack and felt like her heart leaped up into her throat at that moment. When it lands she hurries over to it. It definitely cannot live like this, so while it's getting back up, she gets up on her hind legs and swings at it for a hoof-punch.   [d20, +2 for skill and situation, 7+ pass, 11+ success, 2- crit fail] Day, 7-pass   The thing still has some fight left in it as it turns out, quickly side stepping to dodge her hooves, though she still gets a good kick into its side, knocking it off balance, before it quickly swipes at her!   Daybreak would try to hop out of the way from the swipe, move backwards, then rush in to try to buck the thing!   [d20 to dodge, +1 for skill, 9+ pass, 12+ success, 1- crit fail] [if pass first] [d20 to hit, +2 for skill and situation, 7+ pass, 10+ success] Day,3-fail   As she leaps back however, she misjudges its reach, getting a nasty , but not too deep, into her chest, before the thing pushes her back a few feet with its shoulder!   While shes stunned, it turns and starts dashing off!   She touches her wound and flinches, grabs the spear just incase she may need it then hurries up an gives chase to it!   As she chases it, its determination and speed almost make her lose it, but as it tries to climb the large tree again it slows down significantly! [d20 to catch it! +1 for its injuries, 8+ pass, 12+ success] Day,21-success   Quickly, Day closes the distance, and with one quick thrust, severs its spine, the thing going limb, though its claws make it stick to the tree, the thing is clearly dead.   It didn't even have time to make a sound, the jungle going silent....   Everything happened so fast she couldn't believe it herself. She readied herself for it to move again, and when it didn't, she'd then go up to it, her heavy breathing calming down. " ...Thanks. " she said. Her dad taught her to always respect your kills. Even as a punk she knew to at least follow that. She hoisted up the body and made her way back to the first tree, just to check something. She looked up at the hole it was in, and wondered if it was protecting any young up there, or it was just a hideout. Without wanting to risk falling and with no rope, she decided instead to salute to the tree and just head back to town to the hunting stand.
