the following is an excerpt from the sports section of a local newspaper   Japan’s Paralympic team’s medal hopes have been dealt a harsh blow following a hit and run involving champion sprinter Emi Ibarazaki.  At around 6:30 AM yesterday what is believed to have been a drunk driver left the road and collided with Miss Ibarazaki and her running partner and fiancé, Hisao Nakai.   The team spokesman has come forward and stated that she is “currently in a medical induced coma. The accident caused severe spinal trauma [...] she is almost certainly paralysed from the waist down. She will never walk, let alone run, again. This is a great tragedy for our team”   Emi Ibararazaki rose to fame in 2012 after become the second amputee to attempt to qualify for the 2012 Summer Games in London, alongside South Africa’s Oscar Pistorius. She fell short of qualifying by less than a second, but she was still a favourite for the Paralympics   The driver is currently wanted for several chargers including causing grievous bodily harm by negligent driving and vehicular manslaughter   [spoiler]Emi goes on despite everything to become a wheelchair athlete of world renown. She dedicates her first paralympic gold medal to the memory of both Hisao and her father[/spoiler]
