People are generally good but also generally callow, irrational, and overly-sentimental. Moderates always get cucked by extremists. That's the issue here with the polarization seen.

Let's not pretend the deracinated classically liberal society you people seemed to think existed back in the late 20th century isn't utopian. Literally never existed, it just seemed to exist in a superficial manner during a transitional period. Merit was always second to diversity, people who wanted less immigration (most people) didn't get their way, and Chuck Yeager actually had to put his foot down to stop the first black fighter pilot doing astronaut training from passing as he scored last in his class (but the government really wanted a black pilot). It has just boiled over now.

And funny aside, every time Richard Spencer is brought up on /pol/ he gets called a plant and then those people are called trolls then there are people asking "where he came from" or stating "he came from nowhere" then someone posts a link to /pol/'s archive showing he has been around since 2007.
 
It's an amusing and illuminating process that I enjoy.
