YOU set a precedent that people can be purged for something comparable, and by the same people, or something comparable in the same eyes of those people
 
It is usually attacking high performers. Which should matter for standards.
 
Oftentimes they dont actually care about the standards, at least not the ones who benefit from this, they just know they can use those who do or adopt it as decoration. And in the far right they dont care about maintstreaming this stuff, sense they target high performers and relative outsiders who spread the message too for not living by some threshold. They'll one day criticize someone's presentation as setting this back and the next spread a lie about someone with a platform friendly to the ideas they allegedly want spread
