Especially with mistaken impressions, outright lies, and other failures of communication further muddying the waters. 8chan's polmeta actually claimed the altright was alt-lite civic nationalism and anti-natsoc. This is no more apparent than with Spencer. He used to be viewed as a dope and too moderate on key issues but since the end of 2016 corrected that for most. Many were impressed with him taking bolder stances, getting under people's skin more, and being generally more formidable than he was in debate/conversation. http://archive.is/rhrZo
 
When NPI ended everyone was singing his praises. When hailgate happened with the Atlantic video many cursed him, even going so far as to call him a plant. He held his ground. Which is what we wanted from conservatives btw.
