>You sat at the edge of the Everfree forest, a dangerous and wild place. >Certain death awaits those who enter here. >The moon stood on the horizon, fading away behind a thick cloud cover. >A soft breeze blew through the trees. >The icy wind snatched the very breath from your body like a thief in the night. >Good, let it take what it wants. You won't be needing it anymore. >This wasn't right. >None of it was. >Equestria was supposed to be a Utopia, a place many could only dream of visiting. >You made it! >Out of everything that possibly could've happened, somehow, you made it to Equestria! >This was the place where dreams come to life, >This was the place where friendship truly was magic! >So why were you so alone?   >You are Anonymous, and the name couldn't be more fitting. >No matter how hard you try, no matter what you do, you are anonymous. >You are indecipherable, you are an enigma to ponykind. >Nopony cares about who you are, or what you're even doing here. >You have no one.   >Applejack tried to get you helping out on the farm. >Soon she realized that you couldn't kick strong enough to actually knock anything down. >She let you go pretty quickly after that. >Twilight tried to dissect you, but didn't show much more interest then that. >Rainbow tried to mess around with you and have some fun >A few broken bones and days of coughing up blood later, she gave up. >Pinkie threw a party, and that was neat. >But Pinkie's always throwing parties, and yours didn't really stand out. >Rarity made you a suit, which was nice. >But she's been so busy that you never got to really even chat. >Fluttershy... well, she lived up to her name. >And now, you're living up to yours.     >You are Anonymous >You were destined to be forgotten >To blend into the background >Never the center of attention >What better way to end it all, then to fade into the background, never to be seen again? >You stopped on the edge of the Everfree. >You took a step forward   >You threaded your way through the dense woods >Something nipped at you, just beyond your perception. >You didn't know what it was, but you wouldn't let it distract you. >You emerged from the forest, cloudy skies overhead. >A slight mist started to seep through the trees, chilling you to the bone. >Up ahead you could see a worn old rope bridge crossing over a chasm. >You shuffled towards the edge of the chasm. >Looking down, you couldn't even see the bottom. >Yep, this'll do. >You thought back to Ponyville. >You wondered if any of them would remember you. >You took a step forward.   >Then, you stopped. >A soft melody twirled through the air. >Plucking straight at your heartstrings. >Your curiosity got the better of your morbid desires, and you followed the tune. >You scraped your arms on the rough branches, leaving jagged gashes down the sleeves of Rarity's suit. >Not that she'd ever hear about it. >You parted the brush to reveal a gap in the tree cover. >Starlight shone down through an opening in sky. >At the edge of the clearing sat a small pond, rippling in the heavy rainin the storm. >Her fur was mint green, matted down and soaked from the rain. >Her eyes were shut, a peaceful look on her face. >She shivered, frosty vapor drifting out of her nose with every breeze. >What was she even doing out here? >Her horn was coated in a golden aura, a harp resting in her magical grasp. >She was the source of this beautiful melody.   >Branches snapped on the other side of the clearing. >The brush shook violently, a pair of green eyes glowing in the darkness. >The mare had her back turned. >She looked so peaceful, as if nothing could ruin this moment. >She didn't stand a chance.     >The timberwolf started to creep forward, creaking and groaning with every step. >Why wasn't she moving? >On instinct, you sprinted towards the mare. >The timberwolf took notice, and prepared to pounce. >Why wasn't she moving!? >You leapt at her, wrapped your arms around her, and knocked her to the ground. >The timberwolf pounced, slashing it's claws at the mare. >Thunder struck, drumbeats pounding across the sky.   >You let out a guttural scream. >It's claws raked across your back, the cold wind biting at your flesh. >Beneath you, two golden disks opened wide in surprise. >Hastily, you picked yourself up, readying yourself for another attack. >When you turned around all you saw was a jaw full of oaken teeth, and those glowing green eyes. >Then, a flash of golden light. >The timberwolf's jaw shattered, sending wood chips flying everywhere. >It's shook it's head, trying to get it's bearings after the blast. >Another flash of golden light, and the rest of the head shattered. >The body of the timberwolf fell apart, mystical energy dissipating from the branches. >You looked to the mare, jaw hanging wide open. >She stood there, the golden aura around her horn fading as she slumped over.   >"Why?" She said softly. "Huh? >"Why can't I even die without hurting somepony else" >She glanced over at your back, blood running down your skin in rivulets. "What?" >"Why would you save me? I- I came all the way out here so that nopony else would be around." >You sat there, dumbfounded at what you were hearing. >Was she trying to...     >Her shoulder bumped into you as she walked past, lyre floating beside her >"You wasted your time saving me." "I could say the same thing" >She stopped, her face scrunched up in confusion as she turned to look at you >You grabbed her lyre out of the air, plucking a couple of the strings "There's a pretty nice cliff back that way. I'd be at the bottom of it if I hadn't heard this." >"I- I just wanted to go out doing the thing I love, you know?" >She sat down in the mud, staring off towards the pond. >"It's all I have left," She muttered.   "Heh, at least you got something." "Me? I've been here a couple of weeks and I still haven't found anything worth holding on to." >"Must be pretty rough, having nothing to call your own." "You... kinda get used to it after a while." "Easier to live with it if you pretend there wasn't anything there to begin with." >"Truer words were never spoken," the green mare said, a ghost of a smile on her face. >You sat there in the silence for a while, watching the raindrops strike the pond's surface   >"Name's Lyra, Lyra Heartstrings." "Anon, Anon Y Mous." >She stood, wiping off a little bit of the mud in her coat. >"Well Anon, that cliff isn't going anywhere anytime soon." >You cocked an eyebrow. "You wanna jump right after I took a timberwolf on for you?" >"Nah, just wanna enjoy the view," she said, winking. >She snagged her lyre out of your hands and started strumming a tune.     >Soon enough, the two of you had reached the chasm. >The wind blew sheets of rain left and right, leaving the rocks slick and muddy. >You heard the rumble of thunder off in the distance. >You were shivering like a madman, and you were pretty sure you could see your own breath very once in a while. >But you didn't mind. >Neither of you did. >The two of you sat on the edge of the chasm, legs dangling in the air >Not all that long ago you were about to jump >Then you heard her melody >You sat in silence as she played her song >She was skilled enough that you're sure she could hold a conversation without missing a beat. >It just felt wrong to try and interrupt. >Lightning danced across the sky, lighting up the clouds with flashes of bright white light. >The rain poured down your back, washing the blood away and leaving it numb. >Your suit was drenched, sticking to you like a second set of skin. >Whenever you jerked your head the world went spinning. >Spots tickled the edges of your vision. >But through all of this pain, one thing stood out. >You weren't so alone anymore.   >The two of you sat there and watched the storm roll on by. >The pitter-patter of raindrops gave a steady rythm to Lyra's melody. >When the song crescendoed, thunder struck, punctuating her song. >Eventually, the thunder stopped booming. >Then the wind and rain slowed. >Then, they stopped, leaving a thin grey film across the sky. >Then even that was gone as the sun's bright rays burst through the cloud layer. >The two of you sat there, letting the warmth seep inside. >Soon the cold was just a memory. >At some point your arm found it's way around her. >She stopped playing for a little bit to ask about your weird monkey fingers. >You showed them off to her, cracking a couple lame jokes while you were at it. >She didn't seem to mind, chuckling a little no matter how crappy they were.a >Maybe she was just happy to have someone else too.
