The first thing you notice is the greenery. Gnarled tree, wild bush, unkempt weed, choking vine. Next up, the smell. The smell is out of place, isn't it? It's the kind of smell you expect to only get up in the mountains. Cool and clean, carrying a slight scent of growth - of life. The kind of smell you wish you could breathe and hold in forever. Sound? There isn't any. It's the most soundless place you have ever visited. You actually consider speaking just to break it, but something stops you. An odd urge to preserve the sacred silence. Under your bare feet, the grass is warm. A cool breeze whispers through the cracked buildings. A distant thunder. A silhouette passes in the corner of your eye, and you turn to face it.   Wake up. Rise, look around the strange room. It's still night, and you can hear the thunder. Soon enough, it'll rain. Leave. Leave before it arrives. Go, right now.     "So," the inevitable question comes up, "where to?" Remain silent, but don't pretend you didn't hear it. You did consider an answer, but it doesn't reach your throat. Turn to the driver seat and shrug. "Anywhere, then?" "Yeah." Smile. You're not sure if she saw yours, but she smiles too. Relax. Close your eyes. Don't dream.   Hours pass, the engine maintaining a stable rumble. Scenery rapidly changing in the window. The sun rises above the driver's window, and you assume it's noon. Where's your watch? You left it behind, didn't you?   "So, uh" she starts. You open your eyes, slightly startled. She doesn't seem particularly worried, but her tone suggests otherwise. Interrupt her, be friendly. "I'm just running from the weather." Smile again. She raises her eyebrows, but doesn't say anything. You accept the silence and close your eyes again. Sleep is far from you, and that might be for the best.   It really is the weather. The cold is one thing, but you could never stand the rain. A storm is even worse. Terrible battles fought in the heavens between unknown enemies, the fallen tumbling down to earth, thundering battle cries, sparks fly as steel hits steel - no, this is no place for you. Stay under the dry sun, where nature keeps to itself. Stay occupied, stay moving. Drink yourself to sleep so you won't dream. Stay moving, and stay awake as much as possible. It will all be alright, eventually.
