Get as close to the edge as possible, Look down, Stare at the screaming nothingness Calling out to you, for the familiar embrace It's nothing you didn't do before anyway The deathly cold is familiar.   Face it Don't deny it, never deny the temptation The dancing shadow Don't try to banish it, The smiling phantasm It's only you.   Now approach it. Don't be scared, Even as you walk through the valley Never fear yourself Even when it gets dark And you can barely make out the silhouette, pressed against the wall Fill yourself with enlightened serenity.   Now embrace it Embrace temptation Embrace yourself And tell it no.   Because you've done it before. You visited the empty field a hundred times over, you ran and you leaped through the air, and you slept in the shade and enjoyed the sunlight and tasted of the clouds, But never, never ever in your freedom Have you filled the field with purpose. So you could keep going, run through the field you've ran through so many times and pretend it's still enough,   But that's not you. You wouldn't lie to yourself. Build. Surround yourself with walls, so that one day you may reach the sky But remember to make plenty of windows So that you will always be able to look out, to the edge And smile And one day, if the mood strikes you and nothing means anything anymore and your little tower begins to rot because you failed, because you can't think anymore, because you can't reach the sky and your futile attempts make God laugh and because you prefer smiling phantasms over loneliness Open one of the windows And step outside.
