I could only see a few feet in front of me. It was Christmas Eve and it was a white Christmas.  It had started snowing yesterday and hadn’t stopped so we were cooped up in the house. But I had told Hisao that I wanted a snowman so he was making me one. I had stopped watching him pretty fast and started to stare at the falling snow. “Hisao.” “Yeah, Rin?” “What do you think snow feels like?” “What do you mean? It’s soft… and wet.” “Not like that, more like what it feels. Not cold or soft or wet but like the feeling you get when something happens to you, the feeling in your chest.” Hisao looked at me with a blank look for a few seconds. I guess he was puzzled, but I couldn’t really explain it any better than that. “Happy, I guess.” “Why?” “Well, it gets almost everyone happy when it falls. And if there is enough of it, it sticks to other flakes like a family or something.” I gave a blank stare back thinking about what he said. “I think it starts happy but ends up sad. It’s so pure and white when it falls. Everyone loves to see snow falling but they get over that fast. Then they complain about how it’s in the way. Then dirt gets over it and it melts away. Don’t you think that’s sad?” My face had grown frustrated and Hisao looked at me with a confused expression. “I never thought about it like that Rin.” I looked at him with a blank expression again. “Most people don’t focus on the important things.” He looked to the sky for a few minutes before finishing the snowman. “All done, Rin.” “I like it.” A faint smile appeared on my face as I looked at the snowman. I liked it when Hisao made things for me. “We should probably head inside soon.” “Okay.” I stood up once he got close and he surprised me with a kiss on the forehead. “What was that for?” “Why not?” I gave a blank stare back at him. I still didn’t understand why he randomly would try to be affectionate. I didn’t really mind it though. “Let’s go Rin.” I nodded as he placed his arm around the back of my waist and walked back inside with me.
