The scent of vanilla wafted through the air. The quiet tick of a braille clock provided a calming metronome. And a small girl with twintails was more frustrated than she had ever been in her life.   "So this sentence would be... 'She walk dogs yesterday,' right?"   Lilly's eyebrows fell a millimeter as her student butchered her mother's language. Truth be told, she was happy to help Emi, although it completely amazed her how dense the smaller girl could be. They had been here for around two hours and Emi still hadn't grasped tense.   "Not quite, Ms. Ibarazaki." A low groan preceded a thunk to her lower left as Lilly heard Emi's head contact the table with a startling strength.   "My my, there's no need to be so discouraged. It's quite easy! Now, you are talking about something that happened yesterday, correct? So you would need to use the past tense of the verb. In this sentence, your verb is 'to walk'. Now, the past tense of this verb is..?"   Emi's muffled voice squeaked out from the direction of the table. "Umm, will walk?"   Lilly let loose an exasperated sigh. "No, Emi. Attaching 'will' to your verb makes it future tense. You need to add an '-ed' to your verb. The correct sentence is 'She walked dogs yesterday.' Do you understand the difference?"   Emi allowed her body to slide to the floor with a decidedly un-ladylike flop before she answered.   "No. I don't understand this at all. It doesn't make any sense. English is stupid. I don't care anymore. I just don't see what the- Oops."   Emi's eyes flashed up to the blonde girl. Lilly very deliberately directed her gaze towards Emi.   "I-I'm sorry, Lilly! It jus-"   "It's fine, Ms. Ibarazaki. You're just frustrated. It's understandable. After all, languages can be difficult until we get our feet firmly planted beneath us."   Silence.   The air was stiflingly warm. The scent of vanilla hung heavy in the air. The quiet tick of a braille clock beat the ears with a monotonous beat. And a small girl with twintails fell into a fit of giggles that shook the very floor beneath her. The elegant blonde next to her hid herself a small chuckle behind her hand before she joined the older girl with giggles of her own.
