Hanako is in the library browsing for a new book, when she feels a tap on her shoulder. She jumps, absolutely frightened, and turns around, finding a somewhat startled Shizune facing her and already signing rapidly. She is flustered, and hesitates to respond, knowing Shizune can’t hear her.   "I-I'm sorry, I don't... speak s-sign."   It takes a second for Shizune to realize this, and she sighs. She pulls a pad of paper from her pack, and starts writing on it. When she’s done, she hands it to Hanako.   [I wanted to apologize to you for the way I've been acting towards you.]   Her gaze stays on the page for a moment, then back at Shizune, who is nervously playing with her hands. Hanako writes down her response, saying it out loud as well. "W-what do you mean?"   Shizune pauses a moment after reading the response, carefully considering her own words.   [I've been somewhat childish by including you in my feud with Lilly. It was wrong of me to make you a part of that.]   "Y-you don't have to apologize for that."   Shizune frowns, and the scarred girl flinches nervously, until she reads the pad again. [But I should. It's unfair of me, especially if I don't. You are an admirable person, and I've been unkind where I should have instead tried to make a better effort to know you.]   Hanako stops, and stares at the blue-haired girl a moment before responding. "... W-where is this coming from?"   Shizune pouts, and looks a little ashamed. [When I faced you in chess the other day, I was merciless and rash, and I allowed my dissatisfaction with Lilly to reflect onto you. It made me realize that my competitiveness alienates people, even if it's to try and help them. So!]   Hanako continues to stare at Shizune, more confused than before. "S-so...?"   Shizune beams, and writes excitedly. [I would like to teach you how to play chess! I was too hard on you before; you really are a good opponent, and an unexpected one at that. We can go over various strategies and all the different ways to play, including speed, laser, 3d even! Most importantly, it will strictly be for fun, so no wagers, bets, or threats. What do you think?]   A calm, happy smile plays across Hanako’s face. "I would r-really like that."   [Meet me in the Student Council room after school, when you’re not busy with newspaper club. I promise Misha and I won't rope you into any Council business, unless you want to.]   Hanako looks down at her feet while she writes back, but the smile remains, along with a hint of a blush. "T-thank you, Shizune."   Shizune smiles and nods, and after a brief silence, she turns on her heel and departs. Hanako returns to the shelves of books and starts humming, the smile on her face much bigger than before.
