>Anon ran down the foggy street. >The cold air chilling his exposed arms. >BUMP! >Dollar bills floated everywhere. >A tall poofy haired girl stood confused looking at Anon. >"Hey, somebody stop that kid!" >An officer emerged from the fog. >He grabbed the boy by his arm, >"Second time I've caught you stealin, I told you next time I did I'd book you at the juvenile hall!" >Anon struggled, "H-hey lemmie go!" >"Where are your parents Anon?" >Anon remained silent. >"Excuse me, officer." >"What is it?" >"I'm, actually his mother." >"Really? You uh, look a little young to be his mother." >She shot him a seductive look. >"Why thank you officer." >The officer blushed flattening his expression. >"Uh, geez.. You're really this kids mom right?" >"Yes sir." >The woman winked at Anon. >Anon nodded and quickly piped in, "Uh, yeah, she's uh, my mom!" >"Hey, kid, is all the money here and accounted for?" >Anon picked up the scattered bills on the ground, the officer snatched them up from him. >"Miss uh-" >"Dazzle, Adagio Dazzle." >"Right eh, Miss Dazzle, I'm sure you've taught ya boy here better than to be stealin when the cashier is lookin away from his register?" >Adagio shot him a coy look and in a just barely audible facetious tone uttered, >"Of course officer, Anon, you know better than that don't you?" "Y-yeah, I uh.. Dunno what I was thinking." >"Well, I shouldn't have to tell you that stealin is against the law, I had the feelin you knew that already. How old are you Anon?" >He shuffled his foot around a bit before answering. "I'm 11 sir.." >"Gash, eleven years old and robbing a store. Whats the world coming to these days?" >"You're not gonna take him in are you?" >The officer sighed. >"I'll need to write up a report. And if you can promise me he'll be properly reprimanded at home, I'll release him to you ok?" >Adagio nodded. >The officer asked her a few more questions before walking off back into the fog with the stolen money in tow.   >Adagio stuck around the kid. >"What, what do you want?" >"I'm just curious, why were you trying to rob that store anyway?" "Ain't none of your business." >"Oh, come on, that's not very nice. I just saved you back there." "I wouldnta got caught in the first place If I didn't bump into you!" >"Don't be rude! Now, why were you out here robbing a store in the first place, answer me!" "I.. I.." >"What, just say it!" "I uh well, I saw the cash register open, and the guy barely pays any attention anyway, I figured I could just grab the cash and make a dash you know?" >"That's not what I meant, why do you need money?" "I.. I'm homeless, for now that is." >"You're 11 how is that even possible?" "OK, fine! I'm not homeless, I ran away from home!" >"Why? Don't you love your family?" "Sch! No, my father is a drunk, and my mom is dead! And I don't have any brothers or sisters.." >"Oh, I'm sorry, I didn't know, but, maybe your father would.." "No! My father doesn't give a crap about me!" >"So, you don't wanna go back then?" "Heck no! He's an asshole, I hate him!" >"Well, don't you, have somewhere to stay?" "It doesn't matter! Why do you care anyway? >"Well, maybe I can help you Anon." "Unless you can get me a new dad I don't think so. I'll be fine, thanks for the help I guess." >Anon walked off leaving Adagio alone.   LATER THAT NIGHT. -------------- >The rush of cars driving by. >Anon sat curled up underneath the bridge. >He felt the frigid breeze of the night air pierce his body. >His teeth chattered trying to get comfortable. >Anons eyelids felt heavy, but he couldn't quite get to sleep. >His stomach growled and he felt his hunger pain him. >Anon began to sob against his arms >He balled his fists and gritted his teeth. >All of a sudden he heard a car pull up to the side of the bridge. >Footsteps in the distance come closer. >A person in a white hoodie made their way closer to Anon.   >Anon backed away at it's approach. >Removing the hood a big poof of orange hair flowed out, it was revealed to be the woman from earlier. "W-what do you want? I'm not going back!" >"Shh sh sh sh! It's ok, I'm not here to do that, relax ok?" >Adagio sat down next to him. >Anon folded his arms looking away from her. >Something came over Anons head. >He jostled struggling against the cloth-like material, "Hey what're you-" >Warm, soft and warm. >Anon had the white hoodie she was wearing pulled over him. >"You looked a little cold out here, thought this might keep you warm." >Anon slipped his arms into the sleeves. >It was a little big, but only slightly. "Thanks.." >Adagio smiled. >"It's ok if I just sit here with you for a little while right?" "I guess." >"Good." >Anon put his hands in the hoodie's front pocket. >It was warm, really warm.. >Something about it too.. >It smelled nice. >Anons stomach growled again. >"Sounds like you're hungry. When was the last time you ate?" "I-i dunno, this morning I guess?" >"What did you eat?" "An apple.." >"That's it? All you've eaten is an apple?" "Yeah, so?" >"Well, no wonder you're hungry. Tell you what Anon, how about we take a ride, and I'll buy you anything you want tonight, pizza, burgers, ice cream." "R-really?" >Anon perked up with a slight look of desperation. "I uh.. Well, I mean, I guess I am pretty hungry.." >Adagio looked at him with a near devious grin. >"I thought so." >Adagio stood up offering Anon her hand. >"Ready to go?" >Anon hesitated for a moment before taking her hand and being pulled up to his feet. >"Good boy, I'll take you wherever you wanna go for dinner." >Anon followed her to her car. >He opened up the passengers door and got inside, Adagio went around to the drivers side and got in. >And so they drove on down the road. >The Calling's "Wherever you will go" was playing on the radio. >"So, where do you wanna go? Taco Bell, Burger King, Jack in the Box?" "I.. Uh, Taco Bell I guess." >"Hey, I got a friend who likes to eat there."   >Adagio drove down the freeway someways till they reached an exit with a taco bell. >Adagio ordered their food and left the drive-thru.   >She handed him a bag full of tacos. His eyes widened like he'd just hit the jackpot. >Adagio laughed "Go on and dig in." >He reached in hastily pulling out a taco. >He gobbled it down in hardly any time. >And then another >and another >and another >Post fourth taco he let out a groan. >"Filling up huh?" "Y-yeah.." >"You liked those tacos?" "Yeah, it's like the first real thing I've eaten all day.." >"I bet. You look pretty tired now after eating." "I uh-" >"I know, how about we take you home now ok?" "N-no! I don't wanna go home!" >He reached for the door but Adagio pulled him back. >"Hey! I meant my home! Come spend a night with me." "But I don't even know you!" >"But you know I'm a good person now right?" "I-" >"And you don't wanna go back to sleeping on the cold hard street rather than in a nice warm house right?" "Well, no.. But.." >"Are you scared?" "I'm not scared!" >"Well, then that settles it, you're coming to stay with me then!" "W-what but-" >"AH! No buts! You're coming to stay with me, we're gonna get you all nice in warm in bed, you're gonna get a good nights sleep, and in the morning I'll make you a nice homemade breakfast." >Adagio drove a little farther till they reached the home she lived in. >Adagio got out of the car and Anon did the same. >Anon followed Adagio to the front door. >She unlocked it and led him inside flicking on the light. >"Ah, home sweet home." "Adagio.." >Adagio shut the door behind her. >"What is it Anon?" "How did you find me after I left?" >"I asked some guys I saw out on the street if they'd seen a little boy that looked like you. They told me you'd been sleeping under a bridge for the past few days, and sure enough that's where I found you." >Anon looked surprised. >"Come on, let's get you into bed, you must be tired." >She led him over to the couch. >"I'll go get you some blankets and pillows ok?" "Uh, alright.." >Anon stood around awkwardly in the living room for a moment. >He removed his shoes and socks. >He felt the plush white carpet beneath his feet. >Adagio came back with two pillows and a blanket underneath her arms. >She gently placed the pillows where the arm of the couch was. >"Alright, lay down on the couch now." >Anon got on the couch resting his head on the pillows. >Adagio laid the blanket neatly over the top of him tucking him in. "Hey, Adagio.." >"What is it Anon?" "I think.." >"Mmm?" >He smiled a little and said, "I think, you're a really nice lady." >"Aww!" >Adagio gave him a hug. >Anon felt her warmth wrap around him. >"If you need anything, just let me know ok, I'll be in my room down the hall ok?" "Ok, goodnight Adagio." >Adagio replied affectionately. >"Goodnight Anon, sleep well." >Adagio walked off to her room. >Anon quickly began to rest his eyes. >He smiled knowing he had a new friend. >Bathing in the warmth of her sweater and the blanket he drifted off into a peaceful sleep.
