Richten, Human Monster Slayer Ranger 14 18 (19) 14 10 18 (19) 10   Elvish Land Vehicles, Deception, Survival Heart of Darkness Feats: Skulker, Crossbow Expert   Richten NachtJager was not born as such. Born to a simple family of Huntsmen on the fringes of the large Hinterlands-town of Haughtenburg, Richten was the middle child to an older Sister and a younger brother, and every bit the rebellious explorer. (+4 Dex) Often, he would make off with his toy crossbow and romp about the woods beyond earshot of his home, terrorizing small animals. (+4 Wis) This life of carefree exploring was ended abruptly when his father died in a botched hunt of a Boar. The great beast slew his father, and at only 9 years old Richten became the man of the house. (+3 Dex, Land Vehicle)   Richten was far too hotheaded, and almost met a similar fate to his father when he was 10, if not for a lucky break and unexpected strength loaned to him by early puberty. The vulnerability scarred him, and he hardened quickly into a young man who would not abide any weakness. (+4 Strength) His young spirit was no crushed entirely, however, and he enjoyed many of a child's things. When he was 12, a traveling circus came to town, and with a bit of haggling, he secured he and his family seats, to see both the bustling Towns markets during the festivities and the amazing show. He himself was most absorbed in the dress of civilization, and settled on trying to emulate it as best he could, even in the forested Hinterlands where he made a life for himself and his family. (+2 Wis, Deception)   Richten was growing into a fine hunter, and by 13 had shown more skill than most Adults in such a field. (+2 str, +2 dex) His wit and acuity proved to be the deciding factors, as he would spend days stalking the perfect mark, flawlessly taking it down with minimal noise. (+2 Mental) So proud had Richten become, he even opted to enter a hunting contest. He had not, however, anticipated that he could be beat. He spent eight gold, a year's savings, to enter the contest, certain he would win. He had not anticipated that his skills would avail him none against a cheater.   While he was certain he had picked out the largest mark, his Boar came in second place to an even larger Stag. Richten was furious, and fumed for days before settling on revenge; and so, he began to hunt the victor, stalking him, watching him, and when he believed he had the proof he needed: he struck. (+2 Str, +2 Wis) He acrued proof from the goings of the winner to prove he had rigged the hunt by carefully breeding a Hart to as large and fat a size as he could, before "tracking" it. However, while the Burgomaster was forced by this evidence to punish the culprit, Richten was cast out himself for his own actions. Richten had developed an obsession, and would stalk people like prey at the slightest wrong. (+3 Wis) This habit of his came to a head when he was drunk one evening and lost a game of darts, having bet his favorite bow. Enraged, he began to track his target, and soon uncovered something which horrified him, yet aroused an odd excitement as well: There were Werewolves in Haughtenburg. (+3 Dex, Heart of Darkness)   Ricthen spent six years devoting his off-time to stalking the Werewolves, becoming a fox amongst wolves, all the while the chickens of Haughtenburg were only acutely aware that something was amiss. In this time, Richten had truly come into his own and was a renowned Huntsman across the Countryside. (+2 Dex, +2 Con) What he hunted, however, slowly stopped being game, and had begun to be the odd Monster, things he could cut his teeth upon to prepare himself for his eventual retaliation upon the Werewolves. In response to his renown, Richten was the first in his family to gain a lastname, a formality given to him by the Townsfolk who had begun to rely upon him all while excluding him from their Township: NachtJager. The Night Hunter.   His new naming emboldened him, and he finally made his attack on the Werewolves. However, they too had been watching him; he was not so skilled as to remain unnoticed for six long years of stalking. He slew one of their pack, and before the Night was through, he was fleeing for his life from a powerful pack of Werewolves that had uncovered all of his hidden caches. Richten narrowly survived, and fled deeper into the woods, into Elven territories. There, he impressed the haughty Elves, and was inducted into the secrets of Woodland magic, being formally named a Ranger and Elf-friend. Armed with a more powerful Crossbow, one designed by Elven Smiths explicitly to compliment his skills, and a savage Saber of his own design, forged by Elven smiths to enable his retribution, a Scimitar with serration upon the back curve, to rip arteries and sinew with fluidity and grace. (+2 Dex, Elvish)   Richten returned once again to his homeland, now a darker place. The Werewolves had been forced to oust themselves, and Haughtenburg was caught in a nightly vigil for any signs of the monsters within the city walls. Richten wasted no time getting to work. With more finely honed skills than ever before, he began to bring the fight to the Werewolves. Within a month, he had slaughtered half of the Werewolf pack, and showed no signs of stopping. In desperation, the Werewolves hunted for his safehouse, and found him staying with his family. In the dead of night, while Richten was finally catching up with his younger brother, three strangers arrived. They asked for lodging, and Richten's younger brother, Hanslieb, offered them the mostly-empty woodshed. Before Richten could act, the pack struck. Richten fought hard to protect his siblings and their children, but the Werewolves had the upper hand. The cottage Richten had spent his youth in caught flame during the fighting, and he barely survived his mauling, having to crawl out of the inferno and into the wilds to heal.(+2 Con, Survival)   When Richten returned, he claimed the night. Even the townsfolk feared him, seeing him slowly walk the cobblestone roads, his heavy boots clipping softly. The Werewolves, horrified that this simple man could not only survive their attacks not once, but twice, grew afraid. Richten NachtJager hunted them all down within three days. When he was finished, he left without a word, nothing to hold him down anymore, intent to rebuild his family's legacy of Hunters, though this time it would be against far more treacherous game.(+3 Dex)
