>You walk out of the tiny little bedroom in your mobile home >Your wife of over a year was missing >You opened the door to see Trixie, in nothing but a robe and underwear making coffee, he hair a mess >You giggle "morning love bear." >All Trixie did was mumble and groan before knocking back nearly half the cup of coffee >You walk up behind your girl and give her a nice big smooch >You both were quite poor, barely being able to afford the mobile home you were in >But you two were happy >Money doesn't bring happiness, but Trixie sure did >Trixie kissed you back >It was nearly time for work >You going to a steel mill to (what the fuck do you think, make steel duh) >And Trixie to preform her magic tricks for a bunch of middle schoolers across the county before working as a barista for the rest of the night >It was a hard life but neither of you resented it for a second >You both had each other and that was more valuable than all the silk sheets and servants put together >After downing the rest of her coffee, Trixie walks into the shower and strips down, "forgetting" to close the door and doing a little butt shake >You smirk >God she had such a nice ass >As she finishes in the show, the door still open so you could have a nice, full view of that amazing body, you started to get ready >You laced up your steel toed boots, put some jeans on and wore a green button up work shirt >Trixie gets out of the shower >"My, my don't you look handsome" >You giggle and tenderly squeeze her supple breasts "My handsomeness could never compare to the pure work of art in front of me." >She giggled >"You are such a tease you know that?" >You hug her tightly "I love you doll." >"I love you too. I can do anything with you." "And I with you." >You make your way to the door >What you wouldn't give to spend just a few more minutes with her "I'll see you tonight babe. Stay beautiful ok?" >She winks at you, putting her hair in a ponytail >"I'll do my best. No promises" >You walk out into cold harsh world >And cold was no understatement >It was right in the middle of winter at 4 in the morning >The cold was so intense it felt like your very bones might freeze >You reach in your bag and pull out your hat and gloves >Not that it would help all the much >You walk up to the train station, paying the fair of 2.95 and sit on the train >You look at your wallet and see the picture of you and Trixie on the wedding day >She looked so amazing in that dress >You could stare at that picture all day, and often did >Trixie was the only thing getting you through some days >If not for her, this life would be nearly unbareable >But with her, you could do anything >There was no weight to heavy to bear >You spend about an hour on the train before reaching the steel mill and get out >Another day another tonne of steel >You clocked in, put on your protective gear and sat at your station >What was Trixie doing right now? >Meanwhile, back at the mobile home, Trixie had just finished her morning routine >Her makeup was on point, her hair perfectly done, and now she was in her magician wear >It wasn't the most flattering job in the world, but whatever it took to get by >Trixie walked to the same train station, only got on the line going the opposite direction >Trixie pulled her locket out from underneath her shirt >She never left without it >Anon had literally sold his motor bike for a pure gold locket with their names ingraved on the outside and a picture of them on the inside of it >It was shaped like a heart >Trixie flicked open the locket and looked at the picture inside >He was so dashing in his suit >She could see his big muscles bulging out of it >She always loved the feeling of being in his arms, like she was perfectly and completely safe >She just stared at the picture the entire ride >Even an entire year into their marriage, she loved him as much as the first day they met >Her mom always said it was mistake, don't marry someone so poor >But she didn't regret if for a second >It wasn't easy but she couldn't be happier >What was the point of having a relationship with money if there was no spark? >She got off at her stop, putting the locket back down her shirt >It was always right next to her heart like that >Today she was going to a library for her routine >If no schools needed her, this is where she'd go >A thick mist hung around the town, it's cold air seeming to just be stuck in one place >She hated winters here, they were absolutely unforgiving >her magician outfit wasn't exactly a coat either >She quickly made her way to the library and started to set up all the smoke and mirrors >From inside the warm library the scene looked so tranquil >hardly a soul was on the street and the mist just hung there, almost not moving >It looked like something you'd see in a horror movie >As she watched out the window, the kids started to roll in >It was for the local orphanage this time >Time to put on the show >As the kids took their seats, Trixie got her act on "Welcome to the Great and Powerful Trixie's Misty Madness Magic Movement!" >She came up with that on the spot >And she was damn proud of it "For my first trick, I need a volunteer from the audience!" >All the kids hands shot up at mock one speed >Trixie pointed to a cute little girl in the audience "You there, in the back, come to the stage!" >The little girl giggles and walks up to the stage "And what is your little one?" >"U-um... Sunset Shimmer..." "Ah I see! Welcome to the show Sunset Shimmer. And how old are you?" >She looks down, blushing and giggling >"Seven." "That's quite old! Well Sunset, would you mind picking a card from the deck?" >Trixie pulled out a deck of cards >She always loved this trick >It blew their little minds >Sunny picked a card from the middle of the deck "Now show the audience what your drew." >Sunny showed a seven of diamonds to the audience "Now, watch an be amazed as The Great and Powerful Trixie, pulls the same card from the deck-" >Trixie put a blindfold on "Blindfolded!" >The crowd gasped >You start to shuffle the deck >What they didn't know was that all the cards were all the same "Alla kazama, alla kazu!" >Trixie pulls a card from the deck and just like that a seven of diamonds >The crowd of little orphan kids clapped and cheered and Trixie pulled her blind fold off >Sunset had the most amazing smile in the entire world >It was if this was the most amazing thing her little eyes had ever witnessed >Sunset gives the card back and Trixie continues her act to completion >As she was packing up, she felt someone pull on her skirt >It was Sunset >"Miss Trixie?" "Yes sweetheart?" >"Is magic real?" >Not wanting to break an orphan's heart, she replied "Yes, of course" >Once again, she had the eye popping smile >"Can I be a magician someday!? I want to be just like you!" >Trixie giggled "Of course you can Sunset" >Trixie gave Sunset her business card "I know it seems like a long time, but when you're 17 and if you're still interested, give me a call. I'd be happy to teach you everything I know." >Sunset frowned >"Seventeen!? But that's like a million years from now!" >Trixie couldn't help but giggle >Little kids were the greatest "I know it seems like a long time. But magic is a very dangerous art. You have to be a certain age not to hurt yourself." >Sunny sighed >"Ok. You promise you'll still be around?" "Of course I will." >Sunset ran back to her group and Trixie began to prepare for her next show >At the steel mill, you were having a significantly less fun time >Today he was manning the molten metal, pressing one button to pour it in and then pressing it again to stop the flow >Saying it was boring to press a button over and over for nine hours a day was an understatement >And the mill was so loud having conversations with someone was all but impossible >At least you got to chill to some tunes >You worked through the entire day, changing positions a few times before the clock finally marked the end of your shift >Time to go home and see the love of your life >You walk outside, it being as cold as ever >It was like a damn refrigerator >As you go the station you see a gas station >What you wouldn't give for a swig of cheap beer >You figured you'd earned it >You'd get some for Trixie too >You walk inside and buy a six pack >As you were inside you couldn't help but eye a lotto ticket >No Anon, no >That's a tax on stupid people >You have a higher change of being struck by lightning than winning the lottery >You paused a moment before giving in >One wouldn't hurt right? >And the prize money was over five million dollars, one of the biggest pots in history >You were lucky enough to catch a girl like Trixie right? >You got yourself a lotto ticket and made your way back home >You go inside the trailer to find Trixie already there "Hey dollface." >Trixie smiles >"Hey boo." "How was your day?" >"Exhausting as usual. You?" "Boring as all hell." >You put the six pack on the table "I thought we've earn ourselves a little r and r." >She giggles >"You know I don't like beer. But I'm so desperate for a buzz I'd drink sludge if it meant I could let loose a bit." "Then let's have a toast." >You crack open a can "To your valor, my sword, and our victory together!" >You both take a big drink "Long may the sun shine!" >Trixie smiles and you both down a few beers, getting exceptionally tipsy >Trixie gloms on you >"H-hey -hick- Anon? You wanna -hick- do something nasty?" >Trixie giggles like crazy, in her drunk state finding it very, very humorous >You nod "You bet I do." >You both drunkenly take your clothes off, skipping the foreplay and going right into the meat of it >Trixie lifts her butt up as you stick it down her dirt road and start going to pound town >Trixie stuck her fingers inside her puss, massaging her insides >You both orgasm within ten minutes before hitting the bed and falling asleep nearly instantly >You wake up with a pounding head and look at the clock >Shit >12 o clock >You were massively late >Did Trixie have the same fate? >You turn and see she's gone, a little note beside your bed >You open it up and read it "Hi honey love. I didn't want to wake you because you were having such a good sleep. You have been so stressed out lately and figured you needed a day off. I called in to your work so don't worry. I'll be pulling an extra shift to make up for it. You just take it easy. -Trixie" >You felt hot tears in your eyes >You really did have the best wife in the entire world >You get up, your head pounding like hell >You can only imagine Trixie was feeling the same >And yet she did this for her >You were going to make it up to her >You walk to the living room of the trailer and see the lotto ticket >You nearly forgot about it >They were going to call out the numbers today, so might as well check >You flip on the TV just in time for them to make the announcement >A hot girl started to roll the big cage full of balls with numbers on them >The numbers red as follows >1 14 17 21 22 35 >Your jaw fell to the floor >You couldn't believe it >Those were your numbers >You actually did it >Over 5 million >Fighting your hangover, you got your clothes on and made your way to the collections station >You were so happy you were speechless >No more eating shit food >No more living paycheck to paycheck >No more living in a god damn trailer! >For Trixie however, things were not going nearly as good >Not yet anyway >As she entered the library again it began to pour rain which wasn't too bad in and of itself >However the kids were another story >One of them took their shoe off and tossed it at her during the middle of her card trick, causing the cards to fly everywhere >Then another kid, after the show, went and punched her right in the leg giving her a big ole shiner on her thigh >All of the kids were being loud and obnoxious which was wreaking havoc on her hangover induced headache >It was like there was two mallets hitting her over and over again between her ears >After the shows were done, she had to go outside, again, in the pouring rain >Her magician outfit was completely soaked through >As she was beginning to cross the street she was hit with a massive splash of water from a speeding car, drenching her even further >Luckily she had her barista clothes to change into >Except she didn't >The splash completely soaked her bag through >And the barista job wasn't doing her any favors either >Someone on her shift had quit leaving her alone in rush hour >She not only had to take orders but make them now as well >It was a grueling five hours >Or should have been >But her replacement was late >By two more hours >After the brutal shift Trixie walked out the door, her head hanging low >She knew just the thing to cheer her up >She reached in her shirt for her locket, her only salvation >But it wasn't there "shit, shit, shit!" >Trixie looked everywhere, including the shop and the library but it was no where to be found >Something broke in her >She quickly rushed to the family bathroom and locked the door before breaking down into tears >This was the worst day ever >Just every tiny little thing was going wrong >About halfway through her cry she got a text from Anon >"Come home quick. I have the best news ever." >She typed back "It better be. I've had the worst day ever." >She closed her flip phone and made her way home >At least something was going to go right today, however small >The train took her back to her mobile home and she walk through the door, dripping wet >You had a big smile on your face, waiting to tell Trixie the good news "Oh sweetie. You look terrible." >Trixie starts ringing the water out of her hair >"Oh I know. No need to tell me twice." >You could barely contain your excitement "Well my sweet lover of mine. What if I told you you'd never have another day like this in your life. Or better yet, what would you say to the prospect of never working again?" >Trixie rolled her eyes >"I'd tell you quit joking around." >Your smile was practically ear to ear as you held up the statement saying you had won over 5 million dollars >Trixie had to pick her jaw off the floor >"I... I don't understand... how did..." "When I was on my way home I bought a lotto ticket. Turned out to be my lucky day." >Trixie's eyes got full of tears and she tackled you in a great big hug >"This isn't a dream right? You're not pulling my leg?" "No way. It's as real as real can be. I've already been in contact with some financial advisers. We're going to make this last until the day we die." >Trixie could barely speak through her sobbing >"We really did it. We made it. No more walking in the rain, no more working two jobs, no more dingy old trailer. We really made it." "That we did. What do you say we celebrate?" >"What do you have in mind?" "Oh nothing major..." >You held up two tickets to a musical >Trixie's favorite musical >Trixie practically smothered you in a kiss >"You are the best man a girl could ever ask for." "Now go get yourself dolled up in your wedding dress. The show is in three hours. I called us uber just for the occasion." >Trixie nodded and hopped straight into the shower as you put your suit on >Today was the day the everything looked up >You were not going to blow this >Trixie called out from the shower >"Anon, now that we don't have to worry about money, I have a request." "Name it lovely." >"Two days ago, when I was doing my magician thing, I was preforming for an orphanage. I met this beautiful little girl, her name was Sunset." >Trixie pauses "Yeah?" >"Well... you know... since I'm barren due to that disease... could we adopt her? I've always wanted a child..." >You pause for a while too >"Well I've never thought about raising a kid. We'll talk a little more about it later ok? It's not really something I just want to say yes or no too" >"Alright. That's fair." >The was a long silence that followed before Trixie turned the water off and stepped out >She looked rather sad >No doubt thinking about the disease she had that took her fertility >You hug her naked, soaking wet body "I love you babe. I promise we'll figure this out." >Trixie nods >"I'm sorry I can't be a good wife and bear your child." "I never once thought of you a bad wife for that. You are everything and more for me." >She nods "Now stiffen that upper lip. We're going to have some fun ok?" >She nods again >"Right. No more negative Nancy attitude from this girl." "That's the spirit." >Trixie put on her clothes and and did her makeup in the most beautiful way >She looked just the way she did on the wedding >Her hair done up too >You smiled big "You're the most beautiful girl to grace the earth." >She giggled >"You little flatterer you. You're making me blush." "I'm just speaking the truth. Come on. Our chariot arrives in five minutes." >You got an umbrella from the wall and held it over her head as you both walked out of your dingy little trailer >You couldn't lie, you were going to miss this thing >You both had so many good memories in it >Even though it was cold and uncomfortable, you couldn't help but feel attached >A red car was parked just out side and you guide your beautiful lover to it, opening the door for her before running around and sitting in the other seat >The driver spoke up >”You guys just married?” >You smile at Trixie “No, just celebrating a bit.” >Through the pouring rain the car drops you both off by the local theater >You open the door back up for your lover and guide her into the theater >Trixie hugs your side >”I love you so much.” “I love you too babe.” >You walk into the big open hall >It was so beautiful >It was like walking into a castle >Marble floors, giant silver columns, large staircases with red carpet >It was certainly a wonderful way to start your life of wealth >You both grab some snacks before walking into the main theater >It was just as majestic >You both take your seats and wait for the show to begin, Trixie resting her head on your shoulder >She hadn’t been this happy since you two married in the crumby little church >The lights went down and the show started, a beautiful, romantic musical played >Of course, while the lights were out, the two of you kissed >After the show you both went home and had the best sex ever >Off screen of course. Can’t show that in a Christian Manga >The next morning the two of you woke up, calling to quit your jobs >And boy did it feel great >No more boring factory work >No more having to be away from Trixie for hours >And now was the fun part >Where to live >But where to go with over five million? >You ask Trixie >”I’m not sure. I do love snowy mountains. But not too snowy.” >You giggle “Snowy but no too snowy?” >”Well I like the cold better indoors ya know?” >You snugglehug her "Of course my love. Why not Colorado?" >"That sounds perfect. But also... about Sunset." "I thought about it during the show." >"And?" "I think we should at least try. I know at least one person here is a good parent." >Trixie snorts as she giggles >"And I know one person here who's a brown noser." >You both kiss again "So do you know the orphanage?" >"Yes. It was called Cavalry Point." "We'll go once we figure out where we're going to move." >Trixie nods and hugs you tight >"Thank you Anon. You don't know how much this means to me. For so long I've felt so inadequate... That damn disease took away our ability to have a child..." >Trixie clutches her tummy >You turn around and hug her >She had such a hard life growing up >She probably would've turned to gang life if not for you >You sit there and hold her for a while before she finally breaks the embrace "You ok?" >She nods >"Yeah. I just needed to let out some steam. I'll be strong for our soon to be daughter." "That's the spirit." >You both scroll through the catalog before finding the perfect house in the perfect location, Grand Lake and go to the train station together for the first time in ages >You both sit next together >Love was such an amazing thing >It made even the most mundane things fun >You could watch pain dry and enjoy it if she was by your side >The train arrives a little ways from the orphanage and you both walk there, arms locked together >The Orphanage was quite a musty little place >It looked as if it were built in 1960 and didn't change much at all >Trixie walks up to the counter, a strong air of pride about her >"I want to adopt someone" >The old lady manning the front desk sighed >"Would you like to take a look around to see who we have?" >"Nope. We already have someone in mind. Her name is Sunset Shimmer." >The lady types the name into desktop, another item that seemed to be invented around the time computers were and no one bothered to replace >Sure enough, Shimmy's profile popped up >The lady handed Trixie a big stack of paper work and you both sat down on a couch >Trixie quickly filled in the spaces, only asking for you help when it came to finance information >She was just as capable as any man >After the paperwork was turned in they ran it by the computer and it was clear >The old lady rings a little buzzer and one of the aids steps out >"I'll be escorting you to her room." >You follow the man to a room with only a blue curtain for a door >The man pulls the curtain back and Sunny is sitting at a desk, coloring something in, Trixie's card pinned on a board next to a bunch of drawings >The moment Shimmer's eyes meet Trixie's her face lights up >"Magician lady!" >Trixie kneels down next to Sunset >"Magician lady? I don't prefer that. How about mommy?" >You had never seen a little kids face go so bright >Before of course, breaking down into tears and hugging her soon to be mom >Trixie rubs Sunny's back "There, there. It's ok. You wanna meet daddy?" >Sunset looks at you with the most innocent childlike stare and your heart was set ablaze >She looked so adorable >You kneel down to her level and she walks over to you >She has one hand behind her back and her thumb in her mouth, just staring at you before saying >"Daddy!" >You hug her tightly "She's perfect." >The attendant looks down at Sunset >"You all ready to go?" >Sunset nods and jumps in the air >"Yeah, yeah!" >"Thank you mr. and mrs. Lulamoon. Sunset Will be ready to go by tomorrow. We'll need to get her belongings together and have a ceremony." >You hold Trixie's hand "That's perfect. We'll be able to prepare by then." >Trixie nods >"We'll be right back her tomorrow ok Sunset? And I'll teach you everything I know about magic." >Sunset looks completely mystified >"Really!? You mean I won't have to wait a hundred years until I'm seventeen!?" >Trixie nods "That's right." >You say your goodbye's and head back to the station >Trixie's eyes are hot and watery "What's a matter my magic wand?" >She smiles >"I'm just so happy. We're not poor, we get to leave this shithole of a town and now we have a kid. Everything just worked itself out." "Right you are. So what shall we do today? We're moving as soon as we get Sunset. Anything you want to do before saying goodbye to this shithole?" >Trixie thinks for a moment >"Wanna go to the nice yuppie restaurant downtown?" "Your wish is my command, my queen" >You call up another uber and drive towards a nice restaurant as it begins to snow >The sky was gray once again >Trixie looks outside with a vacant stare "You sure are spacey today Trixie." >Trixie doesn't break her gaze from the gentle snowfall >"There's just something so tranquil about snowfall. I don't know what it is. At the same time it's so sad and quiet." "Don't be sad lovely. It's a new beginning for us" >"You're right. I'm just getting emotional again." >The was a long pause before Trixie spoke up again >"Do you think it'll come back again?" "What?" >"My disease" "No. We fought through gritted teeth to stop it. It's gone now Trixie. The fight is over" >"What about you?" "Me?" >"You won't run of to the military again will you?" "Why would I do that?" >"I don't know.. I just.." >You hug her tight "We may have all the money we could want Trixie, but your wounds are still fresh. It'll take some time for you to recover from your past" >She nods >"How did you know that's what was thinking about?" "Because I know you like you know me. I love you Trixie" >"I love you too" >You both arrive at the restaurant and head inside >It was so nice and warm, which gave you just the idea "Hey love of my life" >"Yes darling?" "Why don't we go shopping after this? I realized we have been so poor that we've been wearing the same three sets of clothes for nearly three years. You could use a coat" >Trixie smiles >"I'd like that a lot" >You both sit down, enjoying the ambiance, Trixie still in her funk >You wish you knew a way to cheer her up >But when Trixie got depressed, she really got depressed >And you didn't want to go the whole dinner with her this down in the dumps >Then you had the perfect idea >You pull out your crumby flip phone and flip it open "Trixie, look here." >She looks up at you with tired eyes as you flash a picture >"Ouch! Why'd you do that with the flash?" "You'll see. Just a second." >You open up an app and start playing around with it "I was planning on showing you this on our first anniversary but I'll show you now." >You show her the picture on your phone that you had been meticulously crafting >It was a digital collage of a bunch of different pictures of her >Trixie was nothing if no sentimental >She smiles brightly >"Oh Anon. You're such a sweetie." "I do my best." >It included all the best moments >The time they first got the trailer >Their first time going to work on separate trains >The two of them celebrating her birthday when they were dating >She hugs you from across the table >"You always know just the thing to cheer me up." "Only because you cheer me up every day." >"Sorry for being all Debby downer. I guess I'm just not quite used to things yet. I'm still in living paycheck to paycheck mode." "Once we move to our house you won't be. You'll be able to see it the proof with your very own eyes." >"You never did show me the house we were getting." "Consider it a surprise. You'll like it when we get there." >"I'll take your word for it." >You both have an amazing meal, you getting the lobster and her getting the same before going back out into the cold world again "You ready to go shopping?" >She nods and you go to a big mall "Name it and we'll get it." >She giggles >"You think this is just for me? Oh no. No husband of mine is going to have three outfits he wears and nothing else." >You smile "That's not true. I don't only have three outfits. I have the suit we wore on our wedding." >She gives you a smirk before playfully slapping you >"Oh hush." >You both walk around to various clothing outlets >Unfortunately, however, you couldn't change the fact that this was still a poor part of town >As such there wasn't much in the way of stylish clothing >You managed to get a few more sweatshirts while Trixie grabbed herself a new coat >It wasn't much, just a ugly brown one that probably wouldn't last the winter "I'm sorry we didn't find anything darling." >"It's perfectly fine. There's always next time. I'm sure in Colorado we'll find some other stuff." >You get a text on your phone >It's from your financial advisers >And it was nothing but good news >The stocks they agitated you invested them were making you money an exponential rate >At the current rate, you'd have another million in your bank account in six months >You weren't going to be like those other lotto winners who just blow the whole thing >Trixie looks at you curiously >"What is it?" "Oh nothing major. Just that we're likely to make another million within six months." >Trixie smiles big >"You sure know how to manage that money." "Oh I don't deserve the credit at all. You can thank my financial advisers. It certainly wasn't a waste to talk with them. With their help we'll have more money than we can spend in our lifetime." >"I'm happy to hear that." "Anything you want to do before going back to the trailer for the last time?" >She shakes her head >"I think I want to go back there. Enjoy it while we have it." >You laugh "Don't tell me you're going to miss that old thing." >"You know how sentimental I am. We've had a lot of good memories in that trailer. Sure it wasn't easy but it was never not worth it." "Like all the times we downed beer and fucked in the back?" >She playfully slaps you again >"You're a real pig you know that?" "It's not my fault you're the most beautiful girl in the world." >You both get back to the trailer >It was just a few hours past noon >Trixie looked down at her pink nails >"I miss her already." "Sunset?" >"Yeah. She was just a doll wasn't she?" "Absolutely. I can see why you liked her so much" >Trixie walks over to you and gives you a nice kiss >"Can you at least give me a hint about our new house?" "It has two stories and has a pool. But that's all I'll say" >"Oh come on! Don't be such a stick in the mud" "I can't do it. I want it to be the best surprise" >Trixie goes into the small bedroom and digs around under the bed "What are you doing beautiful?" >She rifles around for a while before pulling out a big scrapbook >"Want to reminisce with me?" >You go and sit on the bed with her "How long have you had this?" >She brushes some dust off the books brown leather cover >"It was a gift from my late dad when I was about thirteen. I inherited my sentimentalism from him I think" >You put your arm around her as she opens to the cover >Baby pictures "Trixie you were the cutest baby girl ever! Look at you!" >You point to a picture of a one year old Trixie, feet in the air and hands grabbing her feet, a big goofy smile on her face >Trixie opens up the next page to show her in her late childhood >Her hair was just starting to grow out and was entirely blue this time >But not just that >Bright, neon blue "You had some hair back then" >"Yeahhhh. It darkened as I aged thankfully" >She points to one of her with her arms up and a great and powerful smile on her face >"There was a good story behind this. I was in grade school and doing our annual school fundraising race. It was called the running of the leaves if I remember" "Running of the Leaves?" >"It was someone silly thing our teachers made up. They said that the only way for the leaves to fall in autumn were to run and hit the ground with our feet" "Very scientific" >She giggles >"We were children you dork. But of course we had to make it into a competition" "And let me guess. The least competitive girl on the planet decided she'd rise above it?" >Trixie giggles so hard she snorts >"Yeah right. I went and ran as fast as my little damn legs would take me." "Did you win?" >"No actually. Stupid bitch named Twilight did. But I got second place and my mom was so proud of me she said I earned a medal." >She pointed to another picture with a paper mache medal hanging around Trixie's neck "You had a great mom. Or at least... did..." >"Yeah... when dad left she really did loose her mind." >The was a long silence >"Promise me you won't leave." "I promise Trixie." >She keeps going, turning the page yet again >She giggles point to a picture of a very pouty Trixie in a pumpkin costume >It was so big that her arms couldn't touch her sides >"And this was a picture of me on faithful Halloween in second grade. My mom said she wanted me to wear this because I looked so cute. And I did. But I could barely even move in it. I was so pissed." >There was a collection of pictures of her in the Halloween costume, all of them featuring her with a huge scowl on her face "I'm judging from the picture that there was a second grader who wasn't too pleased." >"Understatement of the year. I got so mad that halfway through the night, I used all my little girl might to rip a huge hole in the costume. My mom paddled my ass so hard I was walking funny for a week." >Trixie flips the page again >"Ah yes I remember this. This was when I was thirteen. We were taking a vacation to Grand Teton National Park. It was my first real exposure to camping and it really stuck with me. I can still feel that cool air on my face." "We're definitely going to have to take Sunset on a camping trip or two." >"Absolutely. It would be remiss of me, or us rather, not to give our child such an experience. Did you ever going camping as a kid?" "I didn't. I was raised on a farm remember? Just a dumb old farm boy." >She giggles >"There is nothing dumb about you baby." >Trixie reaches for the crease of the next page but stops >You hold her close "We don't have to keep going if you don't want too. We can stop here." >You knew what the next page meant >It was when her father passed >You weren't privy to the details surrounding her dad's death, only that it really scarred her >"I want to try." "Whatever you say. I'm right here next to you ok?" >She nods and smiles >"Right. I can do this with you here." >Trixie turns the page two her at 15 >She was almost pale and looked very depressed >Her eyes devoid of life, like a walking corpse >"This was the year my dad died. Was killed in a construction accident. It really cut like a knife. My mom transformed into a kind, loving and supportive pillar in my life too an necrotic, self absorbed, anxious train wreck. It was like everything she believed in crumbled to ashes. It really weighed heavy on me too." >She pointed to a new picture, one in which she was in baggy clothes >"This is when I began to hate my body. We also subsequently lost a huge source of income. My mom made only a tenth of what my dad did. We were forced to move to a poor area in Michigan." >You smiled "Where we first met." >She nodded >"Not on the best of terms of course. I never would've though you'd be the guy I married." >She turns the page to show a picture of her with a bunch of other students >"And this is where I found my passion for photography. The photography club." >You skim the other pictures >Pictures of your own adolescence >Trixie giggled >"Remember Mrs. Beth?" "How could I forget Mrs. Anna 'butterball' Beth? The prank was unforgettable." >"You were quite the trickster as a kid. I mean who thinks to fill a teachers desk drawers with a bunch of butterballs?" "I got one hell of a detention for it but it was worth it." >"I don't think the kids ever stopped calling her butterball. Didn't help that she was so heavyset." >Trixie flips through the next couple of pages, all of the full of pictures she took in photo club >She really did have an eye for it >If you didn't know any better, you'd think a professional took the pictures >Most of them were of the school >The school itself was quite ugly, being shades of brown and gray but Trixie had a way of making it look almost surreally beautiful >"While you were being a big doof and causing all sorts of problems I was exercising my photography muscles." >She let out a sigh, knowing that wasn't the only thing she was doing "You wanna take a break?" >"I'm alright. I promise." >She turned to yet another page >It was a picture of you and her together at tree, a heart craved into it with a T+A in the center >You both nicknamed it the lovers tree >However, Trixie looked like a skeleton >During the years after her fathers death, she struggled with an eating disorder >You didn't blame her >You could only imagine how losing your father and watching your mom go nuts as a result would affect you >She looked so sickly in that picture >Her eyes were sunken in >Her skin pale as a ghost >Her eyes seemed to be completely glazed over >You could see her ribs through her skin >"I was so moody that most people were afraid of me. But not you. You saw the goodness in me." >You snuggle her close "It wasn't hard. You're the goodess person I know" >"I don't think goodess is a word dork" >You see the picture of you in a suit and her in a dress, the night of prom "Remember prom? That was fun wasn't it?" >"It really was. As hard as it was back then I kind of miss those days" "If you could go back would you change anything?" >She smiles >"Not one thing. Because without all of that shit I never would've met you." "I love you" >"I love you too" >Trixie closes the scrapbook "We're stopping here? But we're about to get to the best part!" >"I'm getting a little sleepy. I'll be sure to fill this thing up plenty more as time goes on. We still have about 8 pages left. Hopefully all filled with Sunset" >You smile big and she smiles back >She gets up and reaches under the bed, pulling out a camera >It was old and worn, the glass on the lens completely cracked >"Remember this?" "Remember it? How could I forget it? The thing was around your neck so much I could've sworn it was attached." >Trixie giggled >"Oh hush." >Trixie brushes off some of the dust >"It wish I didn't drop it." >Trixie lets out a big ole yawn "You alright there mama bear?" >"I'm fine. Just something about reminiscing gets me really-" >She yawns again >"Tried." "Well you better get some rest. Nothing wrong with a cat nap." >Trixie gets under the covers >"You gonna join?" "Nah, I'm not too tired. I'll be happy to watch over your pretty little face though." >Trixie giggles again >"Never stop making me giggle ok?" "I never will." >She closes her eyes and almost instantly is off to dream land >You tip toe out of the bedroom and close the door >You couldn't wait to get to your new house >The idea of having more space than half your arm span in a bedroom seemed pretty great >You grab one of your new sweatshirts and put it on, heading outside >It was so surreal >You couldn't believe that by tomorrow you'd be leaving this life >This life of struggle, of barely getting by >It all ended tomorrow >You just took in this view >The lines of mobile homes >The gray sky >The dirt road with a thin sheet of snow blanketing it >It was so peaceful >Not a sound was heard other than the gently rustling wind >You didn't even feel the cold >You were just overcome with a sense of peace >You walk back inside the trailer >Only one thing that would make this moment better >Other than your waif of course >Hot coco >You pull on your shoes, write a little note for Trixie in case she woke up, and go to the station >You get to the convenience store, the very same one that turned your entire life around >You walk inside and get a few packets of cheap hot chocolate and a candy bar for good measure >Trixie would probably want something too >Eureka! >She loved nuts >ha >hahaha >damn right she did >You bought her some cashews as well and went back to the trailer >When you entered the home Trixie was still fast asleep, snoring like a bear >You go fill up a cup and microwave it after adding the coco mix >Just the thing for a day like today >You wondered how Sunset was doing right now >She had only met you once >Was she afraid? Excited? Nervous? >You hoped you'd make a good dad >You never thought yourself as much of a father figure >You had no idea how to deal with kids >The closest experience you had with children was the daycare job you lasted a week at before quitting >Not exactly a good track record >You take your hot cup out of the microwave and sit outside >You must have sat out there for an hour or so, just completely mesmerized >Trixie put her hand on your shoulder and you jolted back into reality >The sun had gone down >You look up to see your wife in her favorite (and only) bath robe, smiling with her mouth full of nuts >"Thanks for the cashews lovebug." "I know what my doll likes." >"Watcha doin out here? It's freezing." "Well you are in nothing but a bathrobe." >Trixie sticks her tongue out >"Nah uh look!" >She opens her robe, flashing her tit and a cute pair of green panites >"See? I've got my undies on." >You laugh "Yes, you certainly won that mrs. competitive." >You get back up and walk back into the trailer with her "Ready for the last night in our trailer?" >"Oh don't tell me you're going to bed. I just woke up." "Who's fault was that sentimental Sally?" >"Come onnnnn. I want to stay up with you." "You're not the one who has to drive miles to get Colorado tomorrow." >"We're not flying?" "I figured we could. But why not do a road trip? Make some memories." >"Sounds fun to me." >Trixie looks at you with a lusty gaze >"How about we make our last night childfree one to remember?" "How so?" >Trixie rolls her eyes >"So clueless. Like this~" >Trixie drops her robe, revealing her amazing body and her cute b cup breasts "I'm liking the way you think." >"Get in here you." >You both walked into the bedroom and had some of the best sex in your entire life >Trying out all sorts of kinky shit >Finally you both lay on the bed, naked and sweaty and panting like warn out dogs >"That... was... amazing." >Trixie's... juice... was all over her side of the bed "You can say that again." >You snuggle her close, warming each others up just from the skin >You both began to close your eyes before Trixie started laughing "What's so funny?" >"You dork. You're already hard again." "Not my fault I'm next to the most beautiful woman in the world." >"I'd try to help you but honestly... I'm spent." "It's fine. I am too." >You both quickly fade in a slumber, basking in the afterglow >Trixie wakes up you >"Wake up you doof! We're going to be late!" >You shake yourself awake "ugh wha?" >"To get our daughter? Remember?" >She pulls you out of the bed >"Get in the shower. You stink." "Fine, fine." >Trixie looked even more amazing than usual >Her hair in a ponytail, pink lipstick, light blue eyeshadow and moon earrings >She looked incredible >You lazily hop into the shower and get dressed, rushing to the station >You were so excited >Finally your little Sunset was going to be yours >You both sit down on the train and watch as the scenery goes past >You turn to Trixie "I love you." >She smiles brightly >"I love you too" "I already made preparations too by the way. The movers should be moving our stuff right now" >"Good. I'm glad I took a bag full of essentials with me. I knew you'd do it." "You know me so well" >The train drops you off at the orphanage and you walk inside >Trixie looks almost panicked "You ok love?" >"Do I look ok?" "Better than ever" >"I'm not too sweaty am I? Oh please tell me my breath doesn't smell" >Trixie breathes right in your face "No darling, you're fine. I assure you." >"Do you really think I'm up for it? You really think I'll be a good mom? We're not making a mistake are-" >Tixie is interrupted by a firm kiss on the lips "You'll be fine. Don't worry so much." >Trixie took a deep breath >"You're right. Sorry. It's just... I don't want her to live the life I had." "Trixie you are nothing like your mom." >"And you won't die?" "I won't. I'll be right by your side the entire time." >Finally Trixie seems to be at peace >"Ok. I can do this." "That's the spirit." >You both hold hands and walk through the doors >"Hi. Trixie and Anon Lulamoon. We're here to pickup Sunset." >This time it was a different lady at the counter >She had a warm, pleasant smile >"Oh you're here for Sunset? She will be sorely missed. She's such a sweet little thing. I'm so glad she's getting a home though. This place will do nothing but bring her down." >The lady picked up a phone and told a person on the other line to send Sunset down >Trixie began griping you hand with surprising force >You felt like she was going to break the bones in your hand "U-um Trixie?" >"What?" >When she said what she squeezed even tighter "C-could you please-ouch- loosen your grip?" >Trixie's face went beet red and she loosened her grip >"S-sorry about that. Guess I just got a bit nervous haha..." >Sunset slowly strolls out of the hall, wearing a cute red dress >Her eyes light up and a hug smile dances across her face >"Mommy!" >Sunset runs to Trixie and hugs her tightly >"Hi sweetie. You ready to start your new life?" >She nods >You look down and smile at her too >"Hi daddy!" "Hi Sunny." >Sunset takes each of your hands and you walk outside >"Now all we have to do is go get to the car and we'll be on our marry way." >Sunset looks confused >"Where are we going?" >Trixie smiles >"To your new home. Trust me, you'll really like it." >Sunset takes one look back at the orphanage and nods >"Ok." >"What's a matter love?" >"I'm just going to miss my friend." >"I know sweetie. But it'll be alright ok?" >"Yeah." >Trixie picked Sunset up in her arms and you started walking back to the station >"So are we going to pick up the car now?" "We could do that. Unless there is anything else you want to do before we go?" >Trixie look at the station one last time, Sunset in her arms >The place of so much pain and happiness >The very same train she got off every single day and struggled just to get by as a magician and barista >Trixie took a deep breath >"No. I'm ready to go." >Trixie tenderly looks too Sunny >"You ready to go sweetheart?" >She smiles back at her new mom >"Yeah!" "Well then I guess it's settled. Let's go." >You get back on the train and go to a car rental area, getting in a small little red compact >You may have more money than you knew what to do with, but your mentality still didn't feel that way >You still couldn't believe all Sunset had to her name was in a single child's backpack >But no longer >Trixie sits Sunset down in the back seat and buckles her in, joining you in the front >"You ready Sunset?" >To both of your surprise, she was already fast asleep >Her head right against the car door, peacefully snoring away >Both of you giggled and you snapped a picture "You think that one's good for the scrapbook?" >"Of course. It's the first photo we have of our new daughter. And a perfect one at that." "If we find one at one of the rest stops, I'm getting you a new camera." >"Speaking of rest stops, how long will it take to get there anyway?" "Two days." >"Two days? Well we're going to have plenty of time for memories then huh?" >"You bet. We're going to stop at a hotel halfway through the journey. If we went straight through we could make it in 28 hours, but no thanks." >"I don't blame you one bit darling. Do we know when our stuff will get there?" "It'll be waiting for use in boxes when we arrive." >Trixie looked down, remembering the crucial belonging she lost >The one that got her through so many days >"Anon." "Yes honey love?" >"I lost something very precious." "What did you loose?" >"The locket..." >You look at Trixie and you can see her eyes are hot and watery >You put your arms around her in a tight hug "It's ok." >"But... you sold your motor bike for that..." >Tears began to trickle down her face "It's ok." >"But-" "It's ok. I love you. It's ok." >Trixie buried her head in your shoulder >"I'm sorry." "It's ok. I'm not mad." >"I loved that so much. Every time I was having a rough day I'd hold it and it'd make it ok." "I know. But it's alright. We're going into a new life. You won't need it anymore. Because there will never be another hard day in your life." >She just sat in your arms and cried for a bit >"Sorry about that. Everything has been so good, but it's such a big change. It's really throwing me for a loop ya know?" "I know. Just give it time ok?" >"I will." >You put your foot on the gas and started driving off "Now no good road trip is complete without music." >"Make sure to keep it low ok? Don't want to wake sleeping beauty back there." >You smile "Certainly not." >You had the perfect plan >You turn on the song that played during the slow dance during your wedding >Of course, sentimental Sally loved it >She had a big smile on her face >"You are such a goof you know that?" "I figured you needed something to help lift your spirits." >Trixie kissed your cheek >You had only been outside of Michigan once for a family reunion in Rhode Island and Trixie had never set foot outside the state >As the hours rolled by both you and Trixie starred out the window >You both we amazed by the sights >From thick lush forests, to swampland, to plains with miles and miles of nothing >About 3 hours in, Sunset woke up >"Mommy." >Trixie turned back >"Yes sweet pea?" >"I have to use the restroom." >Trixie turned to you >"That's a good idea. I think I have to use the ladies room myself." "Well you're in luck. We've got a rest stop just down the way." >You drive for about five minutes before coming to a sleepy town in the middle of buttfuck nowhere, Illinois You hop out of the car "You two go ahead and do what you need to do. The car needs gas." >Trixie holds Sunset's hand >"Stay close to mommy ok?" >Sunset nods >She sure was a shy little thing >She barely said a word >You put the nozzle into your car and start filling it with gas >Maybe you could find a camera too while you were at it >You finish filling your tank, park the car and follow in after them, browsing the shelves for anything interesting >You grab a few snack and, low and behold, a cheap kodak camera >You wanted a better one but this was a gas station after all >Sometimes you just have to make do >You go up to the counter and pay for you items and wait outside for Trixie and Sunny >They shortly came out after you >You hand Trixie the camera and she smiles >"This is just what we need. Sunset? Is there something you wanted to ask daddy?" >Sunset looks down shyly, hiding behind her mother's leg, and murmers >You kneel down "Yes sweetie?" >"Can I get some nail polish?" >"What do we say?" >"Can I get some nail polish please?" >You smile "Absolutely. Want to help me pick out a color?" >She nods and pulls on Trixie's skirt >"I want you to try to just go with daddy ok? He won't bite I promise." >Sunset looks down >Clearly she had some trust issues >Or maybe it was her just being a little kid >She loosens her grip on Trixie's skirt and you hold you hand out "Hold my hand Sunset." >She does so and you both walk inside >You go to the isle full of female products, all the cheapest of the cheap and Sunset, of course, pinks pink "You know what I think would look great on you Sunset?" >You pull out a blue clip on hair bow "Would you like this." >Shimmy's eyes shine like stars >"Yeah, yeah!" >You go and purchase it and place it on the back of her head >She looked adorable >The bow was much longer than her head so the ribbons peaked out of both sides of her bacon hair >You walk back out to Trixie >"Well, well look at Miss America." >Sunset's face was 100% smiles >You and the family get back in the car >You were amazed by how good Sunset was >Usually Orphan kids were.... >How to put this tactfully >Troubled >You did notice she was awfully quiet >Almost 7 hours with her new family and she had barely uttered a word >You pull the car back on the road >Maybe you were just worrying too much >"Hey Sunset?" >She looks at her mother with sweet eyes >"Yeah, huh?" >"Wanna see another magic trick?" >She smiles quite bright >"Yeah!" >"Alright. Watch this closely." >Trixie pulls out a hat and a wand >"Watch and be amazed as the Great and Powerful Trixie pulls your bow out of the hat!" >Trixie takes the wand and traces it around the hat a few times, quickly using a slight of hand to snatch the bow from the back of her head without her feeling it >"And with a flick of the wrist-" >She pulls the bow out >Sunset looks absolutely amazed and giggles >"Did you like the baby girl?" >She nods a lot >After a while more of driving Sunset tires out and the sun begins to set, leaving you and Trix with some alone time >"It's so spooky out here at dark." "I'm surprised you're not tired yet." >"Are you? We may as well book a hotel." "That doesn't sound like such a bad idea." >You get on the phone and make a reservation with a hotel about fifteen minutes down the road >Trixie looks at you >"Anon? You seem troubled." "It's just Sunset. She-" >"Anon don't worry. You're just new to this. It's just anxiety." "No, that's not it. Have you noticed how little Sunset has talked the entire time?" >"She's probably just shy. I mean we are strangers." "I know... but something feels off about it you know?" >"I have the diagnosis list in my bag. Maybe that will clear your mind." "That would be great." >Trixie digs around in her purse a bit and pulls out Sunset's medical history >"So she's allergic to peanuts, that's a shame." "Allergic to her own mom's favorite food? Well that's just a crime." >Trixie giggles and keeps reading down the list >"As far as physical ailments go, she's pretty squeaky clean. I suppose I'll just let the peanut allergy slide." >She flips the page and after reading a few lines, puts her hand to her mouth "Trixie? What is it?" >Trixie lowers her head >"You were right." "Trixie what does it say?" >Trixie lifts the document again >"It was part of the reason she came her in the first place was some family related trauma... it left her mind so scarred she lost the ability to speak and became mute. Only recently has she been able to start talking again..." >You lay your head back in shock "My god." >You finally pull up to the hotel and park "You gonna be ok Trixie?" >Trixie had tears in her eyes but she wouldn't let a single one fall >"Yeah. I'm going to be strong. I'm going to protect her like my mom never did." >You hug Trixie tightly "We'll get through this alright? And when we hear Sunset talk in full for the first time it will be all the better. We'll throw a big party." >Trixie sniffles >"Yeah. And I will be with her every step of the way." "That's right." >You kiss her "You're a good mom ok? And an amazing wife." >"Right." "I'm going to go get the room set up. You just text me when you're ready ok? I'll leave the heater on." "Thanks sweetie. You really are the best." >You close the door and walk into the hotel lobby >That was absolutely awful >She must have been through hell if the trauma was bad enough to make her lose speech >You wanted her to gain speech but you were afraid of what she was going to talk about >You could only imagine what she had been through >You pay for the room and wait in the lobby a while before Trixie texted you again >You walk outside and open Trixie's side of the door "You alright pumpkin?" >She nods, her face tear stained >"Mhm. I'm all good now.." >She reaches up and gives you a big bear hug >"We're going to do this. We're going to make Sunset right again." "That's right." >Trixie climbs out of the car and you lift Sunset out of her seat >She looked so peaceful as she slept >So quiet >Trixie hugged you, both of you looking down at Sunny >Trixie smiles and kisses you >Without another word, you head inside the hotel >You'd just come back down to bring the bags up yourself >You all go up to the third floor, going to room 215 >It was a pretty plain room >Two beds, some tacky carpet that looked like it was from the 70s, and plain white walls >You slowly rest Sunset on the bed, tucking her in >You whisper to Trixie "I'm going down to get some of the stuff. Anything you need?" >Trixie lay down on the bed beside Sunset, yawning >"Just my makeup bag and purse." >You walk downstairs and go back outside >Even at night Missouri was still hot >You go and get your personal bag, plus Trixie's purse and makeup bag, taking it back up to the room >You saw the best sight possible >Trixie had fallen asleep with her arm draped across shimmy >You quickly reached inside Trixie's purse and pulled out the camera, snapping a picture >It didn't so much as make her stir >She was out cold >She earned the rest though >Trixie always put on a tough face but inside she was a huge softie >You take the bed next to theirs and get under the covers >It felt strange not having Trixie to sleep next too >You pull the cord on the light, filling the room with darkness >You had a perfect idea for a stop to go to tomorrow >It would add a few extra hours but it would be so worth it >You just rest in the bed for a bit >It felt like forever since you had just been given time to breathe and be still >It was almost surreal how time itself seemed to have stopped >It felt amazing >You almost didn't want to sleep, just be with the stillness >But finally sleep took you and you became one with the dark >You wake up to someone rubbing your shoulders >You blink your eyes open to see little Sunset using all of her little strength to get you awake >She had a cute little blank stare on her face as she did it >"Finally awake?" >You slowly sit up "Yeah. Driving for nearly ten hours really takes it out of you." >Trixie smiles and kisses your cheek >"Well hurry up and get ready. Don't want to miss the Continental breakfast do we?" "You're damn right." >"Anon!" "What baby?" >"Don't curse around Sunset." "Oh sorry." >You forgot you were around a child now >You couldn't be your normal, vulgar self "Well looks like mom is here to keep both of us inline huh Sunset?" >Sunset nods, a huge grin on her face >You get up and take a quick shower before putting on a simple jacket with some jeans >Not that you needed >This state felt like it was sitting above a damn volcano >You walk with your family downstairs to the free breakfast, grabbing no more than oatmeal and some milk >Trixie giggled >"Don't be too adventurous there." "What can I say? I am a man of simple taste." >"That's a great way to spin being boring." >Trixie looks down at Sunset >"Anything you want sweetie?" >Sunny just points at some of the fruit >"Well at least we don't have to force you to eat healthy huh?" >Trixie grabbed an apple before receiving a slight poke to the leg >Sunny shook her head and pointed again >Trixie took out a banana only to be poked again, harder this time >"Sweetie you have to describe to me what you want." >Sunset made an O with her fingers and made a pealing motion >"Ah I see!" >Trixie pull out an orange and handed it to her, much to Sunset's joy "You're a natural at this Trixie." >"They don't call me great and powerful for nothing." >You kiss Trixie's head and walk to a table with nothing but a white sheet covering it >Sunset tried, in vain, to peel the orange and quickly became frustrated, getting tears in her eyes and whimpering >"Here let me help." >Sunset shook her head >She sure was stubborn >Sunset tried and tried and finally cracked the orange right open >Trixie smiled big >"Good job Sunset! You did it!" >Sunset had the biggest smile in the entire world on her face as she hugged Trixie >You managed to snap a picture just as she did >Trixie knelt down >"Mommy loves you very much sweetie. Now lets eat." >Trixie sits down at the table with you and Sunset >And boy was Sunset a messy eater >You never imagined eating an orange could be such a.. full contact sport >She got the juice all over her face "So I got an idea before we hit home" >Trixie half listened as she redid her eyeliner in a small pocket mirror >"And what's that, love?" >You pull out a map and point to a spot in Kansas "Our route goes right through Kansas. So why not take a small stop to the eisenhower museum?" >"You are your love of history. You sure our little one here will appreciate it?" "It's got some cool stuff. I mean she's a bit young for a lot of stuff but why not?" >Trixie closes her pocket mirror, putting it back in her purse >"If you want too" "Do you?" >"To be honest I got all I needed to know about world war 2 in high school. I was never very invested in history, especially military history." "Well there must be something we can all enjoy. Let me see what I can find" >"The thing is I've been to Kansas plenty of times. My grandparents live there. Or, well, used too before they passed and all. But trust me when I say there is nearly nothing to do there. It's about as boring as states get." "Well there should be something in Colorado then. I've heard it's a great state." >"Yeah..." "You alright Trixie?" >"I'm alright. I guess I'm still just adjusting to all this. I mean it's good and all but... I don't know." "You will get used to it. It's hard coming from below the poverty line to the lap of luxury. When you see the estate I got us it'll really sink in." >"You still haven't said a word of how it will look." "Because it's a surprise. But trust me. You'll like it. Since I got it without consulting you, you get to decorate the entire thing." >Trixie got a halfway smile, knowing you'd seen her collection of home decorating magazines >Trixie was hardly a girly girl by any stretch of the imagination, but when it came to decorating a house her femininity exploded >"You mean it?" >You give her a big kiss "I wouldn't lie to the woman I love most." >She kisses you back >"You really are the best thing that ever happened to me." "The feeling is mutual." >"Well you are her." >Trixie motions to Sunny, sitting quietly and smiling >She was playing with loose fabric of her jeans like a doll >You missed being a kid >Must be nice to turn the literal fabric of your clothes into a toy with nothing but your imagination >You all finish your breakfast and head back out to the car, you getting the baggage >You put the baggage in the back and take one last look behind you >No more looking back >You hop back into the car and pull out "We still didn't finish discussing any fun places we could see at Colorado." >"Why don't we see the house first? I'm kinda anxious to see it. And it's really an estate?" "More of a manor I suppose. Let's just say it's quite the living space. I'll give you a few spoilers. It has over six bedrooms, four bathrooms, a gallery, a library, a study, a instrument room, a ballroom, a wine cellar, a game room, a pool, a kitchen, as well as some other stuff I'm forgetting. Also the backyard is amazing. You'll love it." >Trixie's head looked like it was spinning >"That's quite the house." "Oh just wait till you see it in person. I can't wait to see it face to face. It was pretty beautiful in the pictures but I'm sure it's even better up close." >Trixie smiled >"I have an idea. Why not take Sunny skiing? I've always wanted to try myself. It looks quite fun." >You smirk "I never took you for someone who likes physical activity." >Trixie snorts >"So what I'm a bit uncoordinated?" "A bit? You couldn't catch a ball if I was handing it to you at three feet." >"Oh hush you." >You slightly look back to Sunset "How are you do doing back there sweetie?" >All she does is nod >Still no talking >It'll come though >One of these days >She probably had the most amazing voice ever to grace the ears of men >You made your way on down the long winding road ahead >It was almost autumn time too >You wondered if a Colorado winter would be any worse than what you had to deal with >God you hated the cold >It was all well and good to be in a warm house but you used to barely have money to afford that >That crumby trailer could barely keep an ant warm in summer >You look over to Trixie "We should probably get you a new purse huh?" >Trixie smiles >"Yeah. But I'd never think of throwing this one away." >Trixie holds up her ratty purse, torn and worn >"I think I'll put this somewhere. Hang it maybe. As a reminder of where we've been. Of how much we struggled and how we were given this lucky break. I'll never allow this money to corrupt us, or Sunset. We'll always remain humble." "You seem really worried about that. You don't actually think it will, will you?" >Trixie looks down "Listen Trixie. You said it yourself. We will remain humble. You have nothing to worry about." >Trixie nods >"I know. But you know me. I'm a worry wort." "Well I'll do everything in my power to put those fears to rest." >Trixie kisses your cheek >"I love you, Anon." "I love you too, Trixie." >Most of the rest of the car ride was spent in silence, Trixie reading Rising Threat Volume 3 and Sunset sat quietly in the back >What must little Sunny be thinking? >What did she think of you two? >No doubt she had been listening to your various conversations >And children were a lot smarter than they looked. She must've understood some of the content, even as young as she was >You turn your head back a bit "Hey Sunset" >She looks at you and cocks her head slightly >No words >It would take some time to get accustomed too. You really wanted to hear her speak. >You make your way through boring, stupid Kansas and hit the edge of Colorado >And what and edge it was >It seemed that Autumn was just starting to come into it's own >You drove down a street filled with the trees all different shades of autumn >It was so beautiful "Look sweetie" >Trixie lifts her head from the book and looks outside in awe >"That's amazing. Autumn is such a beautiful time. It's a shame it's so short. Nature really knows how to put on a dazzling color show" "No kidding. What do you think Sunny?" >She just nods "Well we'll always have a little bit of Autumn with us. Sunny's hair is the same red color as those autumn leaves" >Trixie looks back >"You're right" >You were almost to the destination >Only an hour more and you'd be there >Trixie was getting noticeably more jittery and excited as she looked at the gps tracker on your phone >"We're so close. So close to our new life." "That's right. And it's going to be the best new life ever. Unless of course you want that crumby trailer" >Trixie giggles >"I think I'd prefer a manor with a pool. What did you end up doing with that old rust bucket anyway?" >You smile "I had them deliver it to the back. I'm thinking of making it a sort of memory hall I guess. To remind us of where we've been and to just preserve all the good memories we've had. As sucky as living paycheck to paycheck was, I can't deny that doing it with you made it worth it." >Trixie gets a sly look >"And the sex was pretty amazing." >You giggle "Trixie. Not around Sunny!" >She laughs >"Oh loosen up. It was pretty fun though. Nothing beat coming home to see you after a long day of magic work. You were the big prize in it all." "The same for me. Though I don't think I'll be missing the steel mill as much." >"And I won't be missing all the snot nosed brats I had to deal with." >You drive down a long bath and reach a large brass gate, two low cobblestone walls branching on either side of it >You'd reached the house >You get out and pull out a little card, sliding it inside a box that electronically unlocked the gates >Trixie smiled as you got back in >"That's pretty snazzy." "Isn't it though? Well be refitting it later so that we can get in through finger prints." >"Perfect. No more losing keys." >There was a long dirt road up a hill to the house, trees dotting the large front yard >You drive up until you eventually meet the stone driveway >The house was magnificent >It was made mostly of stone, an large arch above the the entrance, providing shade >The house was over four stories tall and made of a mixture of stone, the likes of which you'd find on a castle and wood that was painted blue >The front door was a large wooden one with iron fixings and two large iron handles >The pillars holding the arch were that of two brass gargoyles, holding it upon their backs and having some rather fearsome expressions >Two the left side of the door way, a very long garage with the same blue wood for the door >Two the right side a garden, surrounded by a large stone wall and a iron gate at the entrance >Atop the arch was a large patio with a white wooden floor, with a white iron table and matching chairs >A few plants were added on either side of the end of the patio for flare >Above that still was a small window. It looked to be some sort of attic >Two the back the was a large tower modeled off of a guard tower in a castle. That was where the library and the study would be. >Trixie got out of the car, her mouth agape >"This is absolutely incredible." >You are pretty taken away too >The pictures online weren't nearly as immaculate as it was to be standing right there >To think you were going from living in a trailer barely big enough for three people to this "Just wait till we get inside. It'll knock your socks off." >You quickly run around and take Sunny out of the car, holding her hand as you open the large iron doors >All of your belongings, the few you and Trixie had, were in boxes right inside the entrance >Only seven boxes worth of stuff between the two of you >Already you were beyond impressed >The floor was stained red wood, the walls marble >On the walls were various places to hang paintings and black iron tables to put candles and furnishings on >The entrance gave way to too halls on either side and a large marble staircase with red carpet on the steps >Sunset's cute little expression was priceless >Her mouth was about on the floor and her eyes full of sparkles >Trixie giggled and smiled >"You like it honey love?" >Sunset nodded so fast you swore her head would fly right off >You grasp sunny's hand a little tighter "Now stay close by me or mommy ok sweet heart? This place is huge and easy to get lost in." >Sunset nods and hugs your leg, showing no signs of letting go >Trixie smiles >"What a daddy's girl." >You smile back and run your hand through her hair "Alright. So what should we do first? Set up shop or explore a bit?" >"I think we should explore a bit. That way we can know where to put our stuff. Pick our room. You know." "I'd agree." >Sunset lets out a mighty yawn >Trixie snorts >"On second thought, I think someone needs a nap." "She didn't sleep the entire car ride. I bet she's exhausted." >Trixie picks her daughter up in her arms, her little body fitting so perfectly >And just like that her head slowly drifted off till she feel asleep >Trixie was doing everything to contain her laughter >"My goodness. Guess that really took it out of her." "She deserves it. She's been through god knows what. But she has good home now." >Trixie looks on Sunny's sleeping face, feeling nothing but love >"That's right. She'll never be hurt in here. And we'll be the best damn parents she'll ask for." >You nod >Trixie finally asked the question that had been floating through both of your minds >"What would you say to getting her a sister?" >You think for a moment "Honestly I'm not sure. I'd rather take some time with Sunset first. Kinda figure out how to parent before thrusting ourselves with another child" >"You're probably right. I think it'd be good for her though. Two child house holds seem to be best. Especially considering our wealth. I don't want her to become spoiled." "We'll think about it. In the meantime, let's get her to bed hm?" >You and Trixie walk up the red carpet steps and go down to the left hallway at the top of the stairs >So many doors >So, so many doors >You both look through a few doors, finding an assortment of various rooms >"How are we supposed to know which one is the bedroom?" "Don't worry. I've got this one." >You take out your phone a look at the housing guide >"Alright here we go. The bedrooms, specifically a children's room is located on the third floor at the end of the hall to the right >You both walk up to the third floor >You really loved the style it took >All the doors were red wood with iron furnishings and handles and the red carpet lined each hallway >At the end of each hallway there was a large stain glass window overlooking the outside >Exploring this house was going be an all day event >Finally you made it to the children's room >You open up the door and are blown away >A large wooden bed overhanging blue curtains was at the center, a large closet on either side and a white carpet underneath the bed >At the front of the bed was a large wood chest, no doubt for various toys >Two the left side a window overlooking the side of the house with the same blue curtains and too the right a large wooden desk with a chalk board mounted on the wall >The walls were painted a mellow beige color >Quite the room >Trixie tip toes to the bed and lifts the quilted sheets, each with a different nocturnal animal on the squares and slowly places Sunny inside them, tucking her in >She kisses her forehead >"Sleep tight my love." >You kiss her forehead too before going back out side with Trixie >All of a sudden she hugs you and starts to cry "Trixie? Are you ok? What's wrong?" >"I-I'm just..." >She could barely get the words out through her blubbering >"I'm just so happy. This is everything I could've ever wanted." >You smile wide and hug her as she cried, rubbing her back "I never regretted taking you as my spouse for a second. You have and will always be the woman for me." >She lays her head into your shoulder >"Right. And I never either. My family was so against me marrying you. Don't marry someone poor they said. Don't marry someone like him. Well they're eating their words aren't they?" "That they are." >"But I didn't marry you for the money, not then and not now. I hope you know that." "I never doubted for a second." >"Good." >Trixie wipes her eyes >"Sorry about that. Just being with our daughter and all this. It's a lot for me." "I know it is. But you don't have anything to worry about anymore. We've made it. We're safe now. No more living paycheck to paycheck. No more long hours. No more being in the cold. No more eating food out of a can." >A loud rumble is heard from Trixie's tummy >You giggle >"Speaking of eating, I think you and I could do with some food." >Trixie's face is as red as a tomato >"Y-yeah, I think that's be lovely." >You hold Trixie's hand and lead her downstairs, pulling out your phone "Now the previous owner said that he left some food for us as a gift. Might as well take a look at it." >"Who was the last owner?" "Some business man. I'd never heard of him till now. He's some low level executive for a multi-national cooperation. Apparently even being low level will treat you pretty good." >"No kidding. It must be quite the successful business." "Yeah. It's called Applefamily Cider. Never heard of it till now." >Trixie gasps >"You've never had Applefamily cider!? I used to drink that all the time as kid. Remind me and we'll get you some. It should be a crime not to taste it at least once." "It's that good?" >"Oh yeah." >You open up your phone with a detailed map of the property. "Alright. The main dining hall should be on the first floor on the left door beside the staircase." >You both make your way to the first floor and open the door, first making your way through a large kitchen and then too the main dining area >It was absolutely incredible >A long brass and sliver table, long enough to seat at least fifty people, with huge windows lining the hall greeted them >Each window had long red curtains with golden embroidering on the edges and at the end of the hall was a large door way the went out into the backyard and garden >Before the backyard was a small white tile patio with two tables surrounded by a large wall of shrub, with a small gate leading out >On the table was a large assortment of various food items from cheese too cinnamon rolls, all hand made >"This is awesome. We'll have to send them a thank you note." "No kidding. Let's dig in shall we?" >Trixie wasted no time >Apparently she was absolutely famished >She inhaled a bunch of cinnamon rolls before digging into what seemed like half a wheel's worth of cheese >You were in no position to judge though, as pretty much massacred the bagels and creme cheese in less than a minute, as well as plenty of sweet tarts >You couldn't remember the last time you ate till your stomach begged you to stop >Trixie leaned back in her chair >"I think I'm just going to chill here for a bit before exploring. My tummy feels like it's going to burst." >You laugh "I think I'll join you in that." >You both sat there for a while, trying to ease your aching bellies before your digestive tract finally got things moving >You open your map up again >"So where do you want to go first? I really want to see the study in the tower." >Trixie looks at your phone >It was such a convenient app >Each place was broken down into categories, food, entertainment, display, and sleeping >"I went to see the display hall." "Well the display hall is closer. We'll go there first." >You walked out of the dining room and up to took a right >At the end of the hall were the stairs leading to the wine cellar, display hall, and the game room/bar >You both walk down the steps, and immediately walk into the display hall >It was a long, tight, stone hall with six large alcoves, each with a mannequin wearing a different suit of armor >on either side about halfway down the hall were two iron display cases for jewelry >Lining the hall were empty picture frames for large paintings "To be honest, it's a little dark a dreary." >"I kinda agree. But nothing a little Lulamoon touch won't fix." "I don't doubt it. I can't wait to see what you do with this." >She hugs you >"What /we/ do with this. I want this to be our space. No my space." >You hug her back "You're as sweet as pumpkin pie." >"Just be careful not to eat me ok?" >You giggle and kiss her cheek "No promises." >"Now let's go see that study." >You both walk back upstairs, holding hands >You'd get to see the wine cellar and game room another time >Sunset would probably love it "First we have to out into the back yard. The tower lies just behind the house's left wing." >You go back through the dining hall and out into the back patio, looking at the garden as you go "You ever tried gardening?" >"Nah. It's never really been my deal. It's a lot of work." "No kidding. One of my old college buddies did it as a hobby. Could never imagine why. It's a lot of work to maintain a large garden." >Trixie smiled at the purple bellflowers and larkspur that contrasted so well with the yellows, reds, and browns of the autumn leaves >"But boy if it isn't a beautiful sight." "Ain't that the truth." >You both walk over too the large tower just at the back of the mansion, going higher than it's four stories >You unlock the door with the electronic card and start to make your way up to the top >Trixie clutched her tummy >"Ugh. This is the exact opposite thing to do after eating such a big meal." "Allow me to help." >You lift Trixie on your shoulders, giving her a piggy back ride >She smiles and rests her head onto your shoulder >"You are such a gentleman." "Only for the best lady in the world." >Trixie giggles >"Oh yeah? Where is she?" >You laugh in return "I love you." >"I love you too." >You make your way up the top of the tower, Trixie in tow to find an wooden door >You open it up and walk inside >Like the rest of the mansion, it was nothing short of spectacular >It was a medium sized circular room >The floor was tile and painted like a compass >The ceiling was a marvel >It was painted to match the night sky, each of the stars being tiny lights the glowed when a switch was turned >On the walls were two golden book cases, each filled with different tomes of all types from Shakespeare to children's picture books >at the back wall, in between the two books cases, was a mahogany desk with a globe and an open journal on it >Trixie looked across the shelves >"This is really nice. I think this is the perfect place for the photo album." >You think for a moment "You think so?" >"Yeah? Why? Do you think there's a better place?" "Well I was thinking in the trailer. Where all our memories will be stored." >You see a light in Trixie's eyes >"Eureka!" "Huh?" >"I've got a great idea. Why not hang photos from the ceiling of the trailer. Like a museum of sorts." "That would be amazing actually." >"Has the trailer arrived yet?" "No. That's coming tomorrow." >"Ah well. I'll do it then." "You're going to be quite busy miss decoration's master." >She smiled >"At least I get to do what I love." "Tomorrow we should probably shop though. I want my wife to wear only the finest clothes." >Trixie giggles >"And I was worried about Sunset being spoiled." >You smile "Well it's not spoiling when it's you. You've earned it for being so awesome." >You both look deeply into one another's eyes and kiss each other for a long while >Trixie yawns >"I think I'm going to follow Sunset's lead. All this has made me kinda tired." "Aw. We were having so much fun." >Trixie stretches >"Can you point me to the best bedroom. We should get the best one." >You smile and look at your phone >"The best one I can find in on the forth floor. center room. I'll go with you. I want to see it" >You both once again make your way back through the enormous estate and go to the forth floor >It was considerably smaller than the rest of the floors, with only three rooms, one being the bedroom, the next being the bathroom to the left side and the last being the enormous dressing room to the right side >Each floor had the same lay out except the fourth, with each side having many different rooms and the middle door leading to a main attraction >The first floor being the kitchen and grand dining room >the second being the pool >the third being the ballroom and great hall >and the forth being, of course, the grand bedroom >And boy was it grand >The bedroom nearly as large in size as the grand dining room, lined with three large windows on either side >The bed was a large king with drapes hanging from the large, ornate wooden canopy >Carved with in the wood were tiny little boats >The walls were painted a very subtle light green and there were two doors on either side that led to the bath and dressing rooms >There was a fire place directly opposite the bed and above that a large plasma TV >Next too the entrance was a large, empty book case as well >"Wow. This house never ceases to amaze me." "You're telling me" >"You gonna nap with me lovely?" "I think I'm going to explore the rest of the house. I'm not very tired" >"Oh poo. No matter. The bed awaits" >Trixie skipped over to the bed and leapt right on top of the sheets >"Night sweetie. I'll be sure to join you for dinner" "I'll be sure to have dinner waiting for you when you awake. love you" >"Love you too" >You quietly shut the door and run down the third floor, going to Sunset's room to check on her >You slowly creak it open and sure enough, Sunny was still resting peacefully in the bed >She was so sweet as she slept >Might as well get the stuff unpacked now that your two favorite people were in dream land >You go and start sifting through the boxes the stuff being all mixed together and out of order >You start rearranging the stuff, being careful not to put the photo album Trixie loved so much in with her things >You guys really didn't have much >Two of the boxes were just clothes >Two of the other boxes were filled with various objects like the scrapbook and the picture you had of you and Trixie on the wedding day, framed >You took it in your hands and blew the dust off >She looked so amazing in that dress >Her hair was done to perfection too >You weren't even as happy when you won the lotto as you were during that wedding day >It really was, by a long shot, the happiest moment of your entire life >You couldn't wait to tell Sunset the story of how you two met >Or all the dumb dad jokes you'd inevitably develop >Or hearing her first words >Or seeing her go off to college >You got some tears in your eyes >She was only seven years old and already you were thinking about her going off to college >Hopefully it would be on peaceful terms, unlike with your family >You wanted Sunset to leave with a warm hug >And boy would you be so proud >You brushed the tears out of your eyes "Get it together Anon. She's only seven." >You took the wedding photo and put it right on the black iron desk beside the door >It would be the first thing anyone saw when going through the front door >That's when it hit you >You guys needed to get a family picture >And you'd place it in the gallery room, right at the end of the hallway >It would look so absolutely perfect, no doubt Trixie would love the idea >You separate both of your clothes into to separate boxes, finding Trixie's red lace bra >You loved seeing her in her red lace lingerie almost more than seeing her nude >Almost >That's when you saw it >Sunset's backpack, slumped against the side of the front door >You knew you probably shouldn't but you took it and unzipped it, trying to see what was inside >If you and Trixie didn't have much, Sunset had nothing >All that was inside was a red leather journal, a very worn teddy bear, what looked to be a school uniform >You had never heard of a seven year old keeping a journal before >You flipped it open >Sunset had some surprisingly good handwriting >You imagined it was probably to compensate for her lack of speech >The first entry read as follows: >"I'm finally getting adopted! Miss Qui gave me this journal and told me to write my feelings like in class. I was worried everyone hated me and I'd never be adopted. One of the older kids has been here since she was three." >You flipped to the next page >"Mommy is really nice and so is daddy. They both got really sad when they found out I don't talk. I wish I could. I hope they love me." >"I tired to open an orange today and it just wouldn't budge. I was surprised that mommy didn't slap my wrists for being impolite. The lunch helpers always did that if I can't. Daddy used to do that too. I hope new mommy and new daddy don't do that to me or call me names." >And that's where the entries stopped >You close the journal and put your hand to your head >Not even eight years old and she's already been through hell >She was quite smart though >This was the level of writing you'd expect from a 12 or 13 year old >She was quite skilled in vocab >At least there was hope >You place her journal back inside the bag >You take her bag and go back to Sunny's room, quietly placing it right atop the chest at the end of the bed >You tip toed to her bed side >She looked so peaceful >Her little chest rising and falling every so slightly >You loved her so much >You tiptoe out of her room and start getting the rest of the shit out of the boxes, putting the contents in various areas that looked appealing and leaving the clothes outside the door of the grand bedroom >You labeled your box with your name, Trixie's with hers >Now what to do >Sunny and Trixie probably wouldn't be up for another few hours >Might as well explore the rest of the house! >You go back down through the gallery room >That family photo was going to fit so perfectly there at the end of the hall >You go down the slightly cramped hall and open the door at your left to the wine cellar >It wasn't at all like you were expecting >There was a wooden table in the center of the room with three chairs on either side and one chair at each end >Surrounding the table was the wine storage with only a few bottles >The last owner of the house was pretty generous >Left two suits of armor, a wide array of food and two bottles of wine >Plus all the books in the library >One of them, a 1865 Chateau Lafite, was priced at around 4,000 dollars >Being rich was a crazy ride >You walk back out of the wine room and into the game room >It was quite cozy >Another plasma tv with various gaming systems and a whole host of games as well as a pool table, a dart board, a bar at the end and selection of various arcade games >This would be just perfect for Sunny >And you too >You hadn't picked up a gaming control since you were in your teens >But now that you had more money than you'd be able to spend in a life time, work wasn't going to be in the way >You head back up >Time to see the pool >It was probably going to be absolutely amazing >As if any part of this mansion wasn't >You go to the second floor and open the main doors to the pool >It was as immaculate and over the top as the rest of the house >The pool spanned 12 feet from end to end, with a hot tub on the left side >on the far side of the room were large windows that gave way to a deck that overlooked the entire back yard >To the right was a door too the workout room >It had everything you could want >a weight rack, a treadmill, a bench press, workout balls and the like with a small TV in the top corner of the room >On the wall was painted "The Only Limit is You" >Very quaint >You head back out into the pool area >You'd certainly need to hire people to maintain all this >You didn't know the first thing about pool maintenance >Even if you weren't a lazy fuck (which, lets be honest here, you were), this was far beyond the abilities of two adults and a seven year old to maintain >Not like you wanted to spend your retirement working anyway >You walk out onto the patio and look into your backyard >Over 320 acres or half a mile's worth of open yard >There was supposed to be a lake further on as well but it was hidden behind the forest at the edge of the proptery >Certainly something to visit >Now to do something to pass the time >You didn't have any ingredients yet to cook >You supposed the game room would provide some entertainment while the two sleeping beauties got their rest >Just as you were exiting the pool you hear one of the doors open >The echo this place carried was imense >You look up to see who it is >It's none other than your darling little girl "Down hear Sunny!" >She leans over the railing slightly and smiles that big goofy smile she always does >She starts running down to your floor before running and jumping into your arms "Have a good sleep, doll?" >She nods and hugs you tight >You thought for a moment and got a great idea "Hey sunny? Wanna go get some clothes and food with daddy? We'll go swimming afterwards." >She smiled even bigger and nodded again "Do you know how to swim?" >Sunset looks down, sucking her thumb before shaking her head slightly "It's ok Sunset. I'll teach you. Would you like that?" >Sunset hugged you tight in response, making a cute little noise >She was so darn sweet it hurt "Alright then. Let's head out then." >"mmm! mmm!" >Sunset was making a sound through closed lips and pointing upstairs "What is it Sunny?" >She made the same sound and kept pointing upstairs "Oh I get it. You want mommy huh?" >She nodded again and again "She's asleep right now sweetheart. Don't worry. She'll be awake when we get back. I promise. We can go swimming together" >Sunset made a little growl noise in defeat
