>you know, you used to love fish. Loved the smell, the taste, and texture.

>somehow having to rummage through trash bins that smelled of 3 day old fish killed that love.
>aha! There's your prize.
>you reach deep in and pull out a few fish that miraculously managed to stay intact And not start rotting when they were thrown out.
>they weren't too big, but hopefully they'll be enough for her.
>you pull the stained poncho closer. you've been wearing it for a few weeks now and it reeked of, well, few week old human B.O.
>that and fish.
>god you hate fish.
>but it's the warmest thing you own and it's been getting pretty windy.
>holding your prize close to your chest you duck through some alleys until you come to a familiar refrigerator box.
>"anon your back!"
>a small blue pony with wings and a rainbow mane flies out of the box to greet you.
"Hey rainbow dash. Staying out of trouble I see?"
>she takes the hint, quickly lands, and hides back in the box out of sight.
>she blushes and gives you her best 'sorry' smile.
>gets you every time.
>you take a seat just outside the box and begin to prepare a small fire.
>as you gather loose pieces of newspaper and rocks the blue pony sticks her snout out of the box and begin whiffing the air.
>"anon is that"
"Oh yeah."
>you see a smile form on her face and she walks out to help you prepare the fire.
"Did you really think I wouldn't get you your favorite food for your birthday?"
>you frazzle her mane and pull her closer to the fire.
>she leans onto you snuggles into your chest.
>It's getting pretty cold. Winter might come early you think.
>everything will be alright though, you'll make sure of that.
 
 
>you look into the fire deep in thought as rainbow dash chows down on the fish you found.
>its almost been a year now since it happened.
>you were just walking down the street, minding your own business, and then out of nowhere your nose starts bleeding and you feel lightheaded.
>you feel the ground beneath you go and pass out. Few hours later you wake up in this town.
 
>"anon come on, dig in!"
"N-no that's alright dash, I'm actually allergic to fish."
>you weren't, and even with your new found hatred of the food you had to admit that it was tempting to bite into something warm.
>but there wasn't enough for the two of you, and you'd rather see her happy and full than have to give up her birthday present because she felt bad.
>you run your hand through her mane, picking out small pieces of dirt as she ate.
>heh, who needs a warm meal when you have such a beautiful pony for a friend?
>you think back to that first day. How chance the meeting was.
>just got told to get lost by the fifth grown up you asked for help. You started walking down the street when you saw a group of guys kicking something that looked like a big dog in an alley.
 
>"mmmm anon that was delicious."
>rainbow dash closes her eyes and starts to get comfortable in your lap.
>you wait until she falls asleep and the fire goes out before carrying her into the refrigerator box you two call home and covering her with the warmest blanket you own.
>Well, only blanket.
>you watch her for awhile, smiling when every once in awhile she flaps her wings lazily and mutters something in her sleep.
>then you lay back and look at your arms and hands.
>still have the scars from the cuts and bruises on that first day. Most still hurt.
>you see rainbow kick hard in her sleep. You rub behind her ear and she calms back down to a restful sleep.
>you sneak in close to her for warmth and you swear she hugs you tight when you do.
>you'll never regret going to stop those thugs on that first day.
 
 
>"come on anon, don't leave me in suspense, how'd it go?"
>you sit down inside the refrigerator box and shimmy the tie from around your neck off.
"Bad."
>rainbow dash's ears drop when you say it.
>"how bad exactly?"
>you start taking off the suit and carefully placing it in a corner of the box.
"Bad."
>"what happened? Did you not show up on time or was the suit not good enough or"
>you smile and start messing up her rainbow mane to get her to stop asking fifty questions a minute.
"No no. The suit was fine, thanks again for that by the way."
>she smiles and blushes slightly. "Oh you know, least I could do."
>you scratch behind her ears as you continue
"No it wasn't anything I did or said as much as it was... something I had already done, awhile ago."
>she looks at you with puzzled eyes.
"remember that one time I got us pizza."
>she nods, eyes slightly perking up and mouth watering at the memory.
"it turns out, and I didn't know this at the time, but it turns out that place has cameras in the back."
>you sit up a little to take the suit pants off and put your normal ones on.
>rainbow dash always says she's not looking when you change but you swear you catch her peeking a few times.
"No big deal though right? Just means I can't apply at that pizza place right? Well, this is where it gets Bad."
>you finish carefully folding the suit in the corner.
"See, and I only just found this out, apparently the pizza shop guy shares his video footage with the other stores."
>"oh. That's"
"Yeah, Bad."
>you put your arm around rainbow dash and smile.
"Guess I won't be applying to those fast food places anytime soon. Don't worry though, I'll think of something."
 
"Speaking of soon though, you should really return the suit from where you got it. We were only borrowing it remember?"
>"I'll fly it back first thing tomorrow I promise."
>you lay there enjoying each other's company for the rest of the day.
>you'll think of something, don't worry.
 
 
>today was windy.
>and cold.
>Really cold.
>you decided to spend it with rainbow dash at 'home' instead of going to look for a job today.
>the whole pizza camera thing sort of helping you make that decision.
>you shiver inside the cardboard box. Rainbow notices and lays close to you to keep you warm.
>her body heat was wonderful.
>after awhile you hear the sound of the wind picking up.
>start talking to try and distract from it.
"So dash I've been meaning to ask. What do you usually do when I head out to find work?"
>"Oh, I umm, I stay here waiting for you to get back. Gotta stay out of sight r-right?"
>she was looking away and pawing at the bottom of the cardboard box with her front hoof.
>she was such a bad liar.
"No really, what do you do."
>she stops playing with her hoof and lowers her ears as she says it.
>"I go out and fly...but I make sure to fly real high up! Above the clouds so nobody sees me I swear."
>she looks at you expecting you to scold her.
"That's good to hear. I worry a lot that you don't get the exercise you need. You have wings after all and sadly not much chance to use them."
>you reposition to hug her close. She squeezes you tight back.
>the wind is starting to howl. You see an expression of worry on dash's face.
"So tell me again about where you come from. Ponyland?"
>she smiles.
>"ponyville dofus, and that's only the name of the town. The place is called equestria."
"Tell me more about equetria then. What was the name of those ponies you want to join, the wander bats?"
>"wonderbolts."
>you keep her talking about her life back in equestria while outside the wind threatens to rip your box apart.
>she talks about her job as a weather pony. About her friends and princess celestia. About her pet turtle and how she got him.
>you keep asking silly questions and making her repeat herself until by the end of it the worst of the storm had passed.
>you snuggle closer to her and try to fall asleep.

>It has taken you months to grow and brew the ingredients you needed and weeks to learn the spell but finally It's ready.
>you're finally gonna get rainbow dash back.
>you tell the girls to stand back as you pour the potion you've prepared onto the ground and begin casting the spell.
>as the liquid begins to grow and rise to form an almost glowing circular doorway you strain yourself to keep focused.
>you only have one shot at this, you can't mess up.
>a few moments later a loud pop and massive burst of wind let you know you've succeeded.
>"Twilight is that you?!"
>without a moment's hesitation you jump through the portal and run up to give her a hug.
"Oh Rainbow Dash thank celestia you're alright!"
>you look around after the hug and start to worry.
>It looks like you found her in some sort of cardboard box, and judging by the sheets and few knick knacks she's been living in it.
>judging by the smell, for a long time too.
"Dash, have you been living in this box?"
>she looks away and nods
"Oh Dash I'm sorry. If I had known..."
>"It's alright twilight. It's not all bad once you get used to it and there's a-"
"Wait Rainbow Dash listen"
>you listen closely for what sounds like two shoeless hooves slowly approaching.
>the far end of the box opens up and a large creature that reeks of death is standing there.
>an ogre!
>wasting no time you quickly blast it away with your horn and grab rainbow dash.
>"twilight wait!"
"There's no time, that ogre could get up any second!"
>you rush her through the portal back into the library as fast as you can.
>you weren't expecting her to fight you so hard while you did.
>once both of you were safely inside the library you turned to the portal and started to dispell it.
>you see the ogre on the other side approach the portal.
>and rainbow fly over to it?
>she says something you can't hear and a few seconds later the portal is gone.
>rainbow is in tears.

>just got off a 14 shift.
>tired, just want to go lay down and sleep.
>head down the street until nobody can see you.
>then duck into some alleys until you reach your home.
>a refrigerator cardboard box.
>you could afford to rent a real home now, but...
>go inside and try to get some rest.
>smell something awful and look around.
>see a wet spot on the edge of the box.
>looks like a dog decided to mark his territory.
>get out of the box and try to air out the stench a little.
>you sit there and think about how tired you are.
>maybe I should move on. Maybe I should get an apartment.
>she said she'd be back for me.
>but its been months and no sign of her.
>you take another whiff and decide that's as good as its going to get.
>you crawl back in and try to pretend the smell is not there.
>tomorrow you'll go find an apartment.
>you manage to fall asleep when you feel something with fur press against your face.
>great, that dog probably came back.
>you open your eyes slightly and see a big blue face smiling at you.
"Rainbow Dash?"
>she pulls your face up with her hooves
>"I said I'd be back for you."
>you immediately throw your arms around her and hug her.
>you see her wings perk up when you do and she hugs you back.
>a voice from behind rainbow dash speaks up. "I can't hold the portal open much longer!"
>you look over dash's shoulder and see the same purple unicorn that blasted you with magic a few months ago.
>you let go of rainbow and she pulls you to come with her.
>your hesitant. I mean, this is what you've been waiting for, why you've stayed in this cardboard box but...
>you'd be the only one of your kind over there if you went with her.
>you would probably never see another human again, and what if they hated or were afraid of you or they wanted to capture and study you like they would with rainbow dash over here.
>what if th-
>rainbow dash leaned in and kissed you.
>you smiled and followed her through.
