"No dash I need a clean sheet of paper."

"No dash, you colored that one with a rainbow too. I need a blank sheet for this contract."
>she looks down at all papers on the ground and then back at you.
>"I don't hab any clean sheets of paper. I drew rainbows on all of them to make them pretty."
>you look at her frustrated and her eyes start to water.
>you catch yourself and start smiling. Then scratch behind her ear to make her feel better.
"It's okay dash, I'll just use the first one you brought me okay?"
>she smiles and you tell her to go back to her desk and let you know if anyone shows up.
>she flies over to a little filly sized desk you had made for her on the other side of the room and goes back to coloring.
>you know you really should make sure she starts racing and flying more. Get her ready so she can get her cutie mark

>you smile and groom her mane while she tells you everything. Stopping every once in awhile to stop you from playing with her ears.
>you couldn't help it, they were too cute when she was excited.
"You know my busy time of the year is coming up. Not that I don't trust the mail but I could use somepony to deliver papers around town for me."
>"Well...I GUESS I could spare some time. IF the price was right."
>you reach behind your desk and pull out a large sack of bits.
>she eyes them and shakes her head in disagreement.
>you smile, put the bag away, and pull out a lollipop.
>rainbow colored, her favorite ever since you gave her the first one when she was a filly.
>you give it to her and she wastes no time enjoying it.

>she starts flying circles around your office unable to contain herself.
"That's amazing dash! I knew you could do it."

"And the fastest pegasus in all of Equestria. Don't forget that one."
>she stops flying around to give you a look for teasing her but pauses.
>"Hey, you changed the color of your mane-I mean hair again. It's all white and stuff now."
>she looks a little worried.
"Yeah. I thought it might be a nice change from my boring brown."
>I guess now was as good a time as any to tell her.
>you we're hoping you wouldn't need to. That she'd just move on with her life. After all this is the first time you've seen her in years.
>but being part of the court of friendship she was gonna be around for a long time. Bound to come find you one day. Element of loyalty and all that.
>you get up out of your chair with some effort and kneel over next to her.
"Listen rainbow dash. We've been friends for a really long time. Since long before ponyville even had a castle. I want you to be the first to know."
>you brush her rainbow mane to calm yourself.
"I'm gonna be going on a little trip soon. I might not be back for awhile."
>she was looking into your eyes, you tried your best to hide your fear.
"So if you don't see the window open next time you come. I don't want you to worry. It just means I'm not back from my trip yet, okay?"

>head over to one of the older parts of town. Looking for a special place you used to work at.

>the window just opened! He was back! It's been years but he's finally back!
>you fly inside without a moment's hesitation.
>"where you been you goofball? You had me worried something happened on your tri-"

>in fact none of his stuff is here. No papers, no cabinets, no desk.
>just an empty office with a bright purple pony looking at you in confusion.
>"e-e-excuse me are you r-r-rainbow dash?"
>"Yeah I am. Hey where's the human who works here? Why's all his stuff gone?"
>the purple pony reaches into her saddle bag and pulls out a letter.
>"I'm s-s-suppose to give you this."
>you look at the letter and see it had already been opened and poorly closed up again to hide that fact.
>you glare at the purple pony who only looks down and stammers.
>"s-s-sorry."
>you read it over and your heart drops.
"To Rainbow Dash, my closest friend.
Before anything else, I want to tell you how much you meant to me. How much I loved and cared about you. How I always thought of you as more of a daughter than just some spunky filly who had trouble sitting still for 5 minutes."
>tears begin to fill your eyes as you read more.
"I want you to know that no matter what you're still the most wonderful pony in all the world, and none of this is your fault. That you'll accomplish great things in your lifetime. Things I can't even begin to guess or describe. But I'm afraid I won't be around for them.
 
Equestria is a wonderful magical place. A place where friendships last forever and the ponies who have them live a long long time. But it seems that the same spark of magic just doesn't work on humans."

>tears begin to fill your eyes making it harder to read but you press forward.
 
"I'm sorry to say that old age is quickly catching up to me. I can barely stand, I sleep through most of the day, and I can't even write my own letters anymore. There's a nice little nurse unicorn doing that for me now.
 
I didn't have the courage to tell you in person and, truth be told, I was almost hoping you'd forget about me so I'd never have to. But if you're reading this I guess you didn't forget. Still loyal after all these years.
 
I'm going away for good Rainbow Dash. And I'm sorry to say very soon if what I overhear from the doctors is true. I know you'll want to come see me, but I ask that you don't. I don't want you to see me like this. So I'm sorry but I'll be keeping where I am a secret from you. It's for the best really.

>she begins to tell you the story and your hand grows numb and limp as she does.

>she tells you the story as best she can. Your vision is fading to black, you close your eyes so she doesn't see your eyes water.
