"What's going on dad?" Morgan asked as Twilight was assisting you up into the ADFX so you didn't tear the suit.
"Major problem caused by nerd horse. Your laser modules charged up you two?" You say as you start to strap yourself into the cockpit
"Yea, it's charged, do I need it?" Morgan asked to which you point it out to Twilight who attaches it to Morgan's back.
"Yea, we need it. Falken you ready for some high altitude flying buddy?" You say as Morgan's confused as to why she's got her laser on her back
"High altitude, Yea I'll give it a shot." Falken said to which you nod and start up your ADFX, Come on, we've got a four hour flight to Hornet, and we're climbing the entire way." You say as you get out to the runway and begin your mission to destroy Twilight's mistake. Twilight joined Echo in providing support, which you thought Echo would never do, allow a pony inside of her. You only do to check on her radar equipment.
 
1600 Hrs. High above Hornet. There's seven other ponies waiting in the area
"Rex, what are we engaging?" One of the F-14s said as the MiG-31s would have had an accent.
You see that big black thing coming down towards us?" You say
"Yea. What about it?"
"That. That's a SOLG, and we need to destroy it before it can leave our nation's borders." You say as the seven of them were much closer to it than you Falken and Morgan were.
"Two minutes until it crosses the threshold." Twilight said via Echo
"Alright, all weapons armed, hit this thing with everything you've got." You say as you arm your own weapons.
"Da, arming AAM-L, big thing not last long." one of the MiGs said
"AIM-54s armed. Waiting until the object crosses our engagement threshold." a female said, though it was obviously an F-14 due to the missile in use.
"Thirty second. I hope they can destroy it Rex." Twilight said as a red timer appeared in your HUD counting down the last few seconds until the seven planes before you engage
"Ten seconds, locked to target." One of them said as their voices all blurred into one voice as you're aiming your laser at the dead center of the SOLG.
The timer ticks down and when it reaches zero you see the contrails of missiles leaving the seven ponies before you, four missiles each ripple fired. The time it takes those missiles to fly to the target is excruciating even though it was just a few seconds.
Twenty eight missiles impact into the SOLG, and there's small pieces falling off of it.
"Twilight what's it doing?" You ask as your thumb hovers over the fire button for the laser.
"It's starting to overheat, it's cooling baffles are destroyed, just a few more hits and it should detonate." Twilight said.
"Rex, we can't get another hit on it, we've had to avoid it, it's up to you three now." one of them said.
"TLS fire." you say as three lasers go and the SOLG.
"Break!" You yell as now it's your turn to avoid this now piece of space junk.
"TWILIGHT!" You yell.
"It's critical, just one more shot." Twilight said as the seven ponies go screaming over your canopy to get a few more hits on the SOLG with their air to air missiles.
"Fox two." was heard from seven different ponies as they let their AA missiles go.
"That did it, it's going critical. get away from it!" Twilight said as Morgan and Falken rejoined you diving in the opposite direction of the SOLG's fall.
Two minutes later and five miles apart, the SOLG detonates sending a massive shockwave through the air rocking everyone up right now.
"Is everyone ok?" You ask as you regain control, along with Morgan and Falken, who seemed to be shaken the least by the explosion.
"Yea, we're good over here."
"Great, we're going to coast on home. I should get the little ones to bed." You say as you change direction to fly back to Avalon's Shadow.
"We're going to go with you. It's not often we get to do something like this." The female F-14 said as the seven of them joined your formation to go to Avalon's Shadow.
"So I guess we should do introductions? You all know my voice, I'm Rex, and lead. The one with the red wing to my right is Morgan, on my left is Falken." You say introducing your kids to everyone as you get to a lower altitude.
"I'm Edge. One of the F-14 ponies. The one off Falken, his name is Blaze, and he hardly ever talks." Edge said introducing herself and Blaze.
"I'm Archer. It's a real honor flying with you sir." Archer another one of the F-14 pones said
"Well, it's nice to fly with a bunch of skilled ponies." You say as three of the four black painted ponies are introduced.
"I'm Snow. Currently taking trail position Rex. When we get to ground, it's going to be nice to finally meet you." Snow said as it now moved to the Russians.
"Korolev, am off red wing. Comrades are Titov and Gagarin. Very good to be flying today." Korolev said introducing the other three.
"Well, it's damned good to be flying with you all, so why don't we just enjoy our victory coast into Avalon's Shadow eh?" You say as you actually were flying on quarter throttle, most of the airspeed you had was due to your decent towards home.
Yes was the universal response as you all spend the next three and a half hours coasting back, except for Echo, who was flying at her cruise height the entire time
 
0100 Hrs. Avalon's Shadow.
Everyone's safely on the ground despite the very long day, Morgan's currently carrying Falken off to bed, and you're talking with the others in your shop
"For such a little thing, you sure can be destructive." Snow said making you laugh
"And Snow's a terrible name for a pony with a black livery. Those red stripes on your tails help." you say getting Snow to laugh where as the MiGs were grey with blue striping
"The two you bring, very young yes?" Gagarin asked to which you nod.
"Yes, both Morgan and Falken are young, but they're determined." You say with a smile on your face
"Da, very strong." Gagarin said complimenting them for their work which keeps a smile on your face
"They can be pretty stubborn at that too." You say as Twilight comes up to you through the crowd of ponies.
"Rex, I just wanted to say thanks for covering for me." Twilight.
"Yea, you're welcome. Don't do that again. I want that burst missile back, and you owe them too." You say as Twilight walks away to bring back the unused missile.
"Why she say you cover for her?" Gagarin asked as he was the closest to you when that went down.
"Well, remember that thing we just blew up?" You ask
"Da,"
"She's the reason why it fell from orbit. She had an "accident" which sent a deorbit command to it, and it would have crashed into her home country, or she would have brought it down on ours." You say explaining it to Gagarin.
"So she almost cause big boom on ground?" Gagarin asked as the other two MiGs came up to listen.
"Yea, she almost destroyed a city. Thankfully though we stopped it, blew it up before the object had a chance to impact the ground" You say as Morgan came back to the hangar, but you could tell she was tired
"Morgan, go to bed. Rest." You say pointing back in the direction she came from.
"I'll be alright, just a bit tired that's all." Morgan said as she stood by you
"Morgan, I can't carry you home, so wherever you fall asleep that's where you're sleeping, I'll bring you a pillow and a blanket if you do, but I'm going to have to leave you where you fall." You say as Morgan was partially laying down.
"We'll help ya out Rex." Archer said volunteering himself
"Much obliged Archer. Let me show you all where you'll be staying tonight, I'm sure you'd like to know where you will be sleeping." You say as most of them nod.
"Alright follow me, KC usually has a guest room or two open, for this type of occasion, if not, I'll have a chat with the manager of the local hotel." You say as you walk from your shop with Morgan still partially awake and following you around.
 
0130 Hrs. Edge of Space
"Hey KC, you got any guest rooms open?" You ask as you walk into a closing down bar.
"Kinda busy closin up the place ta help ya out right now Rex, but ah do got a few rooms open." KC said as he was sweeping up some of the dirt in the bar.
"Enough for seven?" You ask
"Ah've got five open, and ah can't kick them ponies out of their two rooms." KC said
"Ponies? I know Twilight's here, what other ponies are here?" You ask
"Rex, ah'm a bit too tired right naw, but ah think Twilight an her friends got a room, and them two princesses have the other." KC said as you are now confused as to why almost the entire royal party of Equestria was in your city.
"Um, ok, so who's staying here and who's going to go down to the hotel with me?" You ask.
"We'll make due here, Edge and Blaze tend to share everything anyways, so you only need to figure out one more room." Snow said as Edge blushed, the red showing heavily against her black livery, and Blaze was a little offended and opening and closing his mouth out of speechless rage.
"Unless one of you guys want to share, we're going to have to go down to the hotel and." You say as you have to roll out of the way as Morgan lies down dead tired.
"You know what? Archer, sleep on my couch. I sure as hell know I can't carry her and it's the least I can do for you helping me out." You say as you dust yourself off in a pile of dirt KC had made.
"Ah'll show em to their rooms, now don't you track that dirt everywhere Rex, ah just swept." KC said as he went to get the remaining five keys as Archer very gently picked up Morgan and followed you home.
"So Archer why the black livery?" You ask, as the two of you walk through the dead quiet city.
"Oh, well, we never really got over the original third member dying, and we just never bothered to change it. I mean we're kind of over it, but it's still a bother to us." Archer said as you entered your home.
"Oh, that explains the black then. Thought you were a night fighter squadron, hence you only see me on radar but have fun actually trying to see me." You say
"No, we just miss our friend." Archer said as you were showing him through your home with a little flashlight you kept on your key ring.
"That's got to bite. This is Morgan's room. Thanks for bringing her in for me, I'll go grab an extra pillow and a few blankets for ya." You say as you watch him gently place Morgan on to her bed and then leave the room to go back out to the couch you pointed out to him.
It only takes you two minutes to get the blankets and pillows, even though you're dragging them behind you due to their size, but in those two minutes Archer is passed on your couch making you shake your head.
"Just don't do anything you'll regret Archer." You say as you walk off to your room, not before setting up the cannon from T-50 that you took when you destroyed him in the hallway on a tripod with a really neat attachment of a simple red dot sight.
After setting up the cannon, you go to bed, and of course set your alarm clock to be up earlier than usual. You know for reasons any parent would.
 
0630 Hrs. Your home.
There was no need for the cannon after all, it was just a precaution really, Archer had not moved, the blankets and pillows still where you left them, and Morgan was just now waking up.
"How'd I get here dad?" She asked as you stood in the doorway.
"Don't you remember one of the F-14 ponies offered to carry you back if you fell asleep on me." You say as she yawns and smiles at you.
"Well, that was really nice of them." Morgan said to which you smile.
"Yea it was. The one who carried you here slept on the couch. KC didn't have enough rooms as all the "important" ponies are in town. Like your friend Luna." You say as Morgan is suddenly not sleepy and really excited.
"Luna's here? Visiting?" Morgan asked.
"I think so. KC didn't say what princesses were here." You say as Morgan again grabs you by the parachute harness which you still haven't changed out of yet and runs off to Edge of Space to see if Princess Luna was there
0645 Hrs. Edge of Space VIP rooms.
Morgan was rather happy to see Princess Luna drinking a cup of coffee at the bar, much to KC's displeasure of being up this early to make drinks or food for that matter.
"LUNA!" Morgan yelled as she dropped you to the ground and flying over you.
"Morgan, what a pleasant surprise. How are you?" Luna asked as Morgan stopped short of knocking Princess Luna off her seat.
"Princess. Didn't think you'd be a morning pony." You say as she gives you a half stare
"If I were, would I be drinking coffee?" Luna said as you laugh a little
"Good point. Who else is here?" You ask.
"Celestia, Twilight, and a few of her friends, Rainbow Dash, Fluttershy and Applejack. I believe they are still in their rooms, Celestia is raising the sun." Luna said as you nod.
"Ah, sunbutt's got to go raise the sun. She still mad about my whole "praise the sun" incident?" You ask.
"I thought it was amusing, she did not think so, but I think she has forgotten by now." Luna said as you are going to do it again very sarcastically when Celestia walks in.
You're very lucky, about ten seconds later Celestia walks in and you stand up with your arms straight up into the air and you yell "Praise the sun!" only to get a look of disbelief from Celestia and Luna begins to laugh.
"Oh, you did that again. Yes yes, praise the sun." Celestia said just as sarcastically as you did.
"Well least you know it was sarcastic." You say which got a slight smile out of Celestia while Morgan and Luna were talking.
"Yes, and thank you for destroying that weapon Twilight created." Celestia said as you laugh.
"You mean the weapon she almost dropped onto Canterlot? Let alone Avalon's Shadow." You say as this is news to Celestia, apparently she heard you and a few ponies destroyed it, but not how it came down.
"How did she?" Celestia asked shocked
"Apparently she accidentally sent a deorbit command to it which brought it down,and meant I had to destroy it while it was over Avalon." You say
"How does one accidently send a deorbit command to a satellite?" Celestia asked.
"You hit the self destruct, but since I worked for the company that designed one of those, self destruct means taking out a city in the process." You say as Twilight comes out to the bar hearing the last part of your explanation to Celestia.
"I'm sorry Princess." Twilight said as she approached the two of you.
"And you see why I have you as MY chief scientist. If you were on your own, you may have ended the world, or at least disrupt the natural balance of things." Celestia said as you know to stay quiet while Celestia's scolding a pony. So you walk back home as Morgan's in capable hooves for the moment, considering Luna likes Morgan.
 
0700 Hrs. Home.
Archer is sitting on your couch as you walk in the door.
"Falken up yet?" You ask as you walk in.
"No, didn't see him. Where did you go?" Archer asked.
"Took Morgan to visit a friend. I'm sure your friends would like to have you back, come on, they're probably getting up right now." You say as you walk with Archer back to Edge of Space.
"What's it like here in Avalon's Shadow?" Archer asked.
"It can be quiet, other times rather eventful, mostly it's a busy city, the biggest parts hub and maintenance in all of Avalon. With what I've been told the best mechanic ruling over all of Avalon." You say as the two of you walk.
"Oh and who's that?" Archer asked.
"Me." You say as he seems rather surprised by that.
"Wh..what? You sir?" Archer said getting a bit formal.
"Drop the formalities I don't care. But yea, I'm Avalon's Mechanic, and I run the entire nation." You say still very humble even though you could tell them all to do whatever you wanted to, but you don't considering almost all of them could crush you to death.
"Well, damn. I just thought you were the ruler. I didn't know you were the mechanic too." Archer said as he was either shocked or impressed by what you have done here.
0715 Hrs. Edge of Space VIP rooms
"There you are Archer, how was Rex's couch?" Snow asked.
"It was fine, how'd you sleep Snow?" Archer asked as you went back and sat by Celestia and a slightly depressed Twilight.
"Heh, I slept just fine. I know Edge and Blaze slept pretty good if ya know what I mean." Snow said as Blaze came up behind him and smacked him on the back of the head.
"Snow, don't talk about us like that. You know better than that." Blaze said as these were the first words you've heard him say.
"You know I was joking right Blaze?" Snow said as Blaze just glared at him.
"Alright, I get it, no joking about you and Edge. Where is she by the way?" Snow asked as the MiGs came down and raided the breakfast bar, and sat down in a booth to eat in relative peace.
"Still sleeping." Blaze said as he was eating at the bar.
"Hey anyone see where Morgan went?" You ask
"Oh, she's walking around with Luna on her back. Can you do me a favor Rex?" Celestia asked
"Oh alright, least she's out with a friend. What'd you want Celestia?" You ask as Twilight's three friends come down to the bar.
"Would you mind watching over her for a week?" Celestia asked as she pointed to Twilight.
"I would if I had the time, but I've got a wedding to prepare for." You say knowing this was her way of punishing Twilight.
"Who's wedding?" Almost everyone asks.
"Mine. It's six days away and Thunderbolt went into Canterlot with a couple of friends for a surprise, invitations and a caterer. Things here are a lot cheaper than where I was from, but still, 8000 bits, what the fuck is she buying?" You say as the ponies are a little shocked to hear how much money Thunderbolt took.
"The way I figure it, since the invatiations are larger than yours that's probably going to cost like 600 bits, and the caterer is probably anywhere from two to three thousand just in food alone, which leaves her with like half left for the surprise. Which I'm now worried about." you say as Morgan and Luna come back in
