Title: War in Anontopia Author: Anonymous Pastebin link: http://pastebin.com/VJ7fSCJe First Edit: Sunday 13th of September 2015 12:48:45 AM CDT Last Edit: Sunday 13th of September 2015 12:48:45 AM CDT I'm gonna try my hand at writefagging a post for this Anontopia idea. It amuses me.   >Be Celestia   >So it has come to this. >Anon has let his arrogance and pride in his technology cloud his judgement. >He has denied you trade and alliance long enough. >He has snubbed your attempts at fair dealings and friendship. >Time for a show of force.   >Your army stood straight and proud in formation on the desert hill bellow you. >Across the small valley stood the army of Anontopia. >Their numbers were significantly smaller then yours. >You had ten companies of earth pony linemen, five companies of unicorn battle magi, and a dozen wings of Pegasi. >Opposing you were three companies of unicorns, three of earth ponies, and a small band of volunteers and conscripts from Anontopia's nearest border towns. >Oddly, he had his unicorns placed before his earth ponies and the auxiliary militia placed in the rear of his formation.   >"Must we do this?" Twilight asked softly from your side. >"Anon may have ignored us...and me...but he was once my friend. We don't need to preform an invasion." "Twilight," you reply coolly, putting a wing around your former student to comfort her. "It is...regrettable, but Anonymous has rejected us. He thinks his precious technology makes him powerful enough as too not need magic. It's time we teach him a lesson." >You turn to your general and give him a nod. Time for the battle to begin.   ***   >Be Anon   >You look at the battle field with a grim expression. >Celestia had the numbers advantage, but that was part of the plan. >You wanted her to have the superior numbers.   >You lean forward in your seat at the sound of a distant horn. >Celestia was making her advance. >Your weapons weren't quite where you'd like them, as some of the advanced pieces you wanted to make requited precision machining Anontopia wasn't capable of. >Yet. >What you did have was enough to give you confidence of victory.   "Their Pegasi are moving in. Probably planning to pound at our lines from above. See if they can break us without closing their ground forces," you observe. "Is everything in place?" >"Yes, your grace," Lightning Flash, your general, replies with a nod. >"Our auxilaries are waiting your word to move. At the signal, we begin." "Good. And remember, this is too be a warning. A show to all of Equestria what Anontopia can do." >Lightning Flash nods and points to a pony at his side. >The pony raises a flag for your forces to see.   >Time for war.   ***   >Be normal Pegasus soldier for Equestria.   >This is the first actual war Equestria has seen in a long time. >And here you are, right at the front of it. >The stories of this are going to get you all the mares. >You're gonna be a hero.   >The horn blows and you take off along with your fellows. >You climb up to a low cruising altitude and fly slowly across the valley. >"Keep together!" your commander's voice raises over the wind. >"We strafe their lines and see if we can make them run. No need for heroes."   >Yeah, right. >One way or another, you're gonna be a hero.   >You reach the half way point and your commander points a hoof up. >Together, your flight turns their noses skyward and climbs up quickly. >Once you hit proper dive altitude, you all roll and dive for the enemy bellow.   >As soon as you start your dive, you notice that something isn't right. >Their front line of unicorns isn't breaking for cover. >They are standing firm in their lines, as if waiting for you. >The distance closes quickly, and you notice them slowly raise some sort of long, cylindrical objects towards you.   >Just before your impact, thunder roared and smoke filled the air.   >You aren't sure what happened. >There was a series of deafening cracks and suddenly you couldn't see. Through the ringing, you could barely make out the sound of screams.   >Panic sets in. >You pull up and level out, your instincts telling you to run. >When you hit level fight, you catch a glimpse of a griffon in Anontopia colors flying straight at you, claws bared and beak wide in a war cry. >Then he slams into you.   ***   >Be Anon   >The muskets worked like a charm. >Their air opening air attack was blunted before it could cause any damage. >When your fliers who waited in reserve slammed into their confused Pegasi, discipline broke and order collapsed. >Their wings were routed.   >You can't help a cheer of victory. >This was just the opening move and things were already swinging in your favor. >Celestia underestimated the power of Anontopia's technology and the spirit of it's people. >Now you'd given her a small taste, and more was to come.   >You turn to Lightning Flash with a smile. "Call them back. We don't want them up longer then they have to be." >You want your soldiers as fresh as they can be. >No telling how long this battle could go. >Or the war after for that matter.   >You tent your fingers and lean forward. >Your eyes lock on the tent atop the hill on the other side of the valley. >Celestia is there, watching. >You silently dare here to make her next move. >You just need to keep her attention for a while.   ***   >Be Celestia   >What manor of magic is this? >Even from your place across the field, you could hear the report of whatever spell their unicorn's cast. >And then your ponies fell from the sky.   >Twilight let out a gasp of horror as your Pegasi were ripped apart, both by the odd magic and the fliers Anon had kept hidden. >"I...that..." she muttered softly. >She looked a little green. >No stomach for this level of violence.   >Your own body nearly protested when the survivors limped back. >Blood and feathers dotted the ground behind them. >Those that couldn't fly were supported by a Conrad or two, trying desperately to save their friends.   >This wasn't right. And he had to pay.   "Order an advance," you snap at your general. "Keep the unicorns and earth ponies close together. I want protection spells cast on them." >Anonymous has been playing the part of the rebellious fool too long. >It was time to grind him into the sand and show him his own folly.   ***   >Be normal unicorn soldier for Anontopia   >The battle was going well. >That first attack was easily repulsed. >These muskets that were issued to you worked wonders. >It was unfortunate that pony biology made ballistic weapons a little hard to handle without a horn. >Imagine if the earth ponies and unicorns could be similarly armed...   >You snap out of your thoughts at the sound of a horn blowing across the valley. >The enemy is on the move again. >Their earth ponies are advancing towards your position, followed by their unicorns in close order. >They probably plan to try and sweep you away with their numbers.   >Despite the massive size of the enemy force, you aren't afraid. >You have faith in your weapon, faith in your training, and faith in King Anonymous. >He had built this nation from sand, and he wouldn't fail to defend it. >Of course, you were sure the enemy had equally great faith in Celestia.   >"Fix bayonets and stagger formation!" your officers shouted out. >You do as ordered, making your musket into a mix of a fire arm and a short spear. >Numbers will put you at a disadvantage when things come to melee range, but you won't be staying in melee range for long if things go well.   >The next order was to load and make ready. >With powder, wad and shot cramped down in your weapon, it was ready to fire again. >As one, you and your fellows leveled our weapons as the enemy drew closer. >There was a slight shimmer of magic around their front line. >Not a problem. >The focused impact of a bullet could penetrate some magic shielding.   >The enemy begin their charge. >"FIRE!" >You pull your trigger.   ***   >Be Twilight   >You watch in stunned horror as as the clouds of smoke again blast from Anonymous' soldiers. >The spells of protection around the earth pony linemen doesn't seem help them. >The first line of soldiers falls, almost to a stallion. >The second line falters as their fellows fall before them, tripping some, stopping a few, and slowing all.   >You're no tactical genius, but you know that a charge loosing momentum isn't good. >And with their momentum slowed, Anon's forces made their move.   >They came charging from the swirling smoke. >Earth ponies and unicorns alike, weapons ready, came charging out with powerful cries. >The pegasi and griffons he kept hidden behind the hills took to the sky at this point and made for the back of Equestria's lines. >Straight for their less armed and armored unicorns. >Pegasi used their hooves to bash against skulls. >The griffons fired off smaller bursts of smoke and flame before diving in with their claws. >Their smaller number was slaughtering their ponies, and slowly driving them back.   "Maybe it's time to withdraw," you say, looking up at your mentor. "We can fall back and..." >You turn around to see smoke rising from your army's camp. >Tents are collapsing. >Wagons are burning. >Everywhere, ponies are running.   >A pegasus, bruised and bloody, ran up to you and Celestia from your camp. >At least he tried to run; he was limping terribly. >"Th-they came out of the desert. Just...just appeared! Saddle Arabian raiders...they...they burned everything..."   >You turn to Celestia, who is staring at the pegasus messenger. > You saw something in her eyes that day. >Something you'd never seen from her before.   >Princess Celestia was afraid.   ***   >Be Anon   >The pony before you was taller then most others. >She was wrapped in tan cloth that obscured most of her body. >Moving across the desert undetected was easy for he and her people, the Saddle Arabians. >In this sandy place, that made them invaluable.   >"The deed is done, your grace," she said in a soft voice. >"We have struck their camp. Their rear guard wasn't expecting us and fell quickly. Their stores have either been carried away or burned."   "Thank you, Shifting Sands. You've done well." >You turn to your general with a smile. "We're done here, Lightning. Recall the soldiers. We'll fall back to the fort, just in case Celestia still wants to fight." >You turn to Shifting Sands once again. "You and your ponies should stay in the desert. Lay low and watch. Make sure they can't resupply if they try to lay siege." >Your two aids nod and see too your orders.   >With a blast from the signal horn, your ponies and griffons wheel about to withdraw. >The giffons were ordered to use their pistols and eliminate the commanders first to leave the enemy confused. >The plan had clearly worked, because the Equestrians didn't give chase. >Those who hadn't fled or fallen already rallied around what few officers stayed standing, forming defensive circles in case Anontopia struck again.   >Your commanding staff start breaking down your command tent. >They took charts, graphs, and signal flags, but didn't even bother with the cumbersome items like tables, chairs, and the tent it's self. >No time for them, and no reason to take them. >You, however, stay in place. >Your eyes are locked on the enemy's command tent. "Be smart, Celestia..."   >A minute without battle passes. >Two. >It's drawing close to five when Equestria's signal horn blows. >The signal of retreat. >A tall white figure and a smaller purple one appear briefly in front of their tent. >You can feel their eyes on you. >It makes you smile.   >This day belongs to Anontopia. >To you.
