Rarity? >my initial reaction is confusion >Interactions between Rarity and I have been... >sparse and dry, at best... >its a point of regret for me >she really does seem like a nice mare, and so far i've become rather close with a number of other ponies of either gender during my stay here >Bulk Biceps being one of my best friends >hes a stallion of few words, but he's one hell of a weekend wingman the sight of him is imposing at first >keeps jackasses (pun not intended) away at the bar >... >I'm letting my mind wander aimlessly again >i think maybe thats why Rarity doesn't seem to like me so much >shes a pretty focused mare... >fuck! >i missed the call >even if she doesnt really talk to me, im not trying to make enemies of her >i'll call her back >the phone rings a couple of times before she answers "Helloooooo, deary, thank you for calling the Boutique, how can I help you?" >"Rarity? Its me, Anon!" "Oh! Hello! Why didn't you pick up when i called you? Don't you know its impolite to make a mare worry?" >"Haha, yeah sorry about that - i saw you called and got pretty lost in thought. So what's up?" "I was wondering if you had anything going on this week." >"Wh-" "Now calm down, deary, its nothing that special - I have a fashion show this week in Stalliongrad and it appears everyone else is too busy this week to attend with me." >"Well, not to sound rude or anything, but... well, why do you need someone to come with you?" "Ha ha! Silly Anon - If i go by myself, I'll have nopony to carry my bags!" >thats so like her >shes such a tease sometimes "Aaaahaaaa, I'm /joking/ Anon! As if a lady such as myself would make her best friends carry her bags!" >"So then my question still stands..." "Well, to be quite honest, trips like these get rather... lonesome... with nopony to spend time with." "And before you get any ideas, I asked Bulk Biceps before i asked you." >ouch >its even worse because i know she cant stand Bulks on a good day >"Rarity, you can't stand Bulks - if you'd call him first, then that must mean i' worse than him in your mind. If thats the case then why invite me?" "While its true i dont have too many warm fuzzies for that boisterous neanderthal, I asked him first because... well..." >a sigh comes from the other end "Because I at least know him better than I do you. Honestly I have no idea what to think of you. Especially seeing as you never seem to talk to me." "At least Bulk Biceps stops in once every couple weeks..." >again, ouch... >"Well, questions aside, the answer is yes - I'll go with you to Stalliongrad. But on one condition!" >another sigh "And what, pray tell, might /that/ be?" >"You have to go out on a dinner date with me." >a third sigh, this time much more exasperated >i think i just set a record for most sighs out of Rarity in one conversation "Fine, Anon. Just be at the train station by eight o' clock tomorrow morning - and don't be late!" >and just like that, I have a date with Rarity >while its true that i've been in a relationship with other ponies before, its also true that none of those romantic encounters ever ended up being very... >well... >long lasting >none of them even so much as kissed me >closest i'd ever gotten was with Golden Harvest the year before >we were cuddling on my couch one night and she stared into my eyes and started leaning in as if she was going for it >as soon as i mimicked the motions, she gasped and shot upright, covering her mouth with her front hooves >she ran out the door and she broke up with me the day after >wrote me a letter >couldnt even say it to my face >my hope now was that Rarity would be different somehow >there wasnt much of a logical basis for this hope but it was there nonetheless >this was a chance at new beginnings >a clean slate, if you will >I intended to see this through >for better or worse >invigorated by the prospect of new beginnings, I work extra hard at the Apple farm >im not particularly strong, but the physical activity suits me >and besides, apples are one of my favorite foods >especially Mutsu apples >its a good thing they arent in high demand around here >I sometimes take breaks in my work to stop and eat a few Mutsu apples >its in those moments that I feel as though i really made the right choice in employers >and besides, employees get first taste during cider season >Rainbow is always so jealous of me >after work i call Bulks and ask if he wants to chill at my place in a bit >his usual "YEAH!!" is the answer i get >and, of course, the answer i expect >thats part of why i like that big lug so much >its hard not to like his attitude and energy >and despite his appearance hes not a jackass at the gym >hes actually a really good spotter >needless to say, we've been bros for a long time >feeling both exhausted and satisfied, i push open the door to my house >after a couple of weeks staying with AJ, I was able to afford my own place near the Cakes' house >sometimes its a pain - Pinkie just doesnt know when to stop some nights >but on the whole, being so close to a pastry shop makes breakfast the best part of my day >the place isnt much >small living room, one bedroom and a small bathroom >had to pay a bit extra for a human-style shower, but i feel like it was a worthwhile investment >its actually kindof pointless of me to ask if Bulks wants to hang out at my place >like, ever >mainly because he lives in the top half of the house >technically speaking we're roomates, but the only space we routinely share is the living room or kitchen >he has his own bathroom and bedroom, and theres not enough space on the second floor for a second living room or anything >as much as i like the guy, i imagine his bathroom is straight up nasty >hes a body builder after all >i sweat profusely at work all day, but the kindof shit he does on a daily basis ensures he smells like the backside of a donkey after weeks without being washed >as i plop down on the couch, that very stallion walks through the door >"Hey Bulks, whats up?" "ANON! Yeah not much man." >"How's the mare?" "Fluttershy? Haven't seen her today, but I imagine she's doing fine." >"Cool man. So guess who's got a date this week?" >his eyes shoot wide open and his expression becomes exceedingly excited "IS IT YOU? WHO'S THE LUCKY MARE? WHO, MAN, WHO?!?!" >"Rarity!" >he holds his hoof up in the air and looks me right in the eye >I know what to do, but it always hurts >I hold up my hand anyways >Im pretty excited about this too anyways >a moment and a hard hit to the hand later, i find myself in both great pain and great appreciation >high-hooves with Bulks are always painful experiences "NICE!!" >he gets into the fridge and pulls out a couple of cider bottles >handing one to me, he sits down in a chair a bit away from the couch and pops the top with the edge of his front right hoof "So, Anon, whats the scoop?" >I take a long drink of my cider before i start my story >after having told him everything that happened, his smile only got bigger "Sweet shit, man! Looks like you got a while to make this work, eh?" >"Yeah looks like it. I dont know how busy she'll be, but if she wants someone along to fend off boredom i imagine she'll have a decent amount of free time." "Yeah looks that way. So Stalliongrad, eh? Hopefully she books you two some fancy diggs. Then again, it'd be really unlike her not to." >we both laugh at that "Yeah man, it took a long time for Fluttershy to warm up to me. But now we're a really happy pair - it just took a littler perseverance on both our sides." >"Speaking of that, how did you two first meet?" "You know those games? The ones you said sound a lot like what you humans call the Olympics?" >"Yeah. Why?" "Well she and I were on the qualification team for those annual games one year. We trained together and all that jazz." >"Gee, sounds really romantic." "Hey, you say that, but which one of us is gettin' some and which one of us still hasn't even kissed a mare?" >"Yeah yeah, I know..." "Anyways, just take it slow, man. I'm exhausted, so im headed to bed. Best of luck, Anon." >"Thanks, man." >i really hope Bulks is using protection >if they had a foal on the way, theyd have to get married more than likely >which would also cause some trouble as to where the two would live >and we dont have the room for another resident, let alone a foal >which would mean Bulks would have to move out >which would mean i'd have to pay the full rent by myself >which wouldnt even be feasible on my income >or rather it would work, but id have to cut back on my day to day spending a lot to make ends meet >i dont think i could give up my daily breakfast at the Cakes' place >ah well >i cant worry too much about all that right now >gotta be up early tomorrow, and i cant be missing any sleep tonight >my only worry is that everything will fall apart with Rarity >I have to do my best to make sure that doesn't happen >wake up in the morning feeling fresh and ready to tackle the day >shower, eat breakfast at my usual place, and head for the station >the clock at the station tells me im right on time - eight o' clock on the nose >I see Rarity loading a mountain of baggage into the undercarriage of the train >its a good thing she's a unicorn >having to physically lift all those bags would be hell and a half >and the duty would more than likely fall to me >i wave to her >"Hey! Rarity! Guess who's on time!" >i cant help but grin a bit >without looking at me, and while still idly packing her things into the train, she says "Yes yes, impressive - you managed to do the bare minimum." >finally finished, she turns to me and looks me in the eye "Now, lets see how the rest of the week goes, shall we?" >she turns to enter the train, and looks back at me "You wouldn't want to disappoint a mare like me, would you?" >she disappears into the train >i enter after her to find shes already taken her seat >having brought only one bag for clothes and a few toiletries, i fling my bag into the overhead compartment and sit down on the bench across from hers >shes already staring out the window, not even taking any interest in me >she can be so cold sometimes >then again, maybe shes just trying to zone out to make the trip go faster >hopefully thats the case >id hate to think our trip would start on such a sour note >preparing for the long ride ahead of us, i put on my headphones and put my head back >https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PfIIICofz-w plays first >good choice, phone... >before i know it we're already moving >the countryside is flying by and i notice i'm about ten songs in to the shuffle playlist >what woke me from my trance? >the answer soon became apparent when i noticed the pressure on my side >she'd moved to my bench and was using me as a pillow >sound asleep >as adorable as this was, all i could think about now was how much i wanted to lean against the window to take some of the pressure off of my spine >however, i feared any such movement would wake her from her slumber >what was worse, the shoulder she was sleeping on started to itch >and on top of all of this, my phone decided now was a good time to play https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=aiRRYiIeBu4 >i instantly recognized the melody and started to think romantic thoughts while simultaneously being relaxed into slumber myself by the calming tones >and no matter how uncomfortable i became, i couldnt get my phone out to change the song >the pocket it was in was the side she decided to sleep on >giving in to frustration, i slid closer to the window and leaned on the wall >amazingly, she didnt wake up >soon enough i'd fallen asleep as well >i had a strange dream during that nap >i was walking through an empty field of snow with Rarity beside me >we came upon a small pond >it was unusual, though - instead of water, it appeared to be filled with hot chocolate >steam rose from the surface and the aroma was inviting >welcoming the prospect of a relaxing hot bath, i stripped off my clothes and dove in >despite how far down i plunged, i could not feel or perceive a bottom >suddenly i surfaced, and turned to look at Rarity >her expression was one of sheer horror >"Whats wrong, Rarity," I asked her "B... its B-b-blood, Anon..." >in shock, i looked again and surely enough i was swimming in a pool of thick red blood >i lifted my hands out of the water and saw only my finger bones >i looked back to Rarity and she was gone >i woke up in a cold sweat, breathing heavily >Rarity wasnt in our compartment >however, after regaining my senses, i assumed she must have been in the diner car >a moment later and sure enough, she opened the door and walked in with a small sandwich and a bottle of water >she magicked them in front of me and i took them, thanking her >the rest of the ride was pretty uneventful >we ended up talking about each other seeing as, like she said, i never really talk to her and she never really talked to me >as for the falling asleep on me, the only thing she had to say about it was that she had forgotten to pack her pillow and needed something softer than the wall to sleep on >the problem with that explanation was that the bench was long enough for her to sleep on without my "help" >i didnt bring that up though >i wasn't about to spoil the romanticism with which i viewed the moment in my mind >apparently we were going to have to share a room >and a bed >if i was nervous before, i was really nervous now >her reasoning was that while she makes enough to afford a second room, shed rather save the money "I'm not a mare who relishes the spending of money. At least if i can avoid it." >again, this didnt make any sense >i mean come on, this is Rarity we're talking about >shes the embodiment of generosity, so imagining her as being a thrifty mare was nigh impossible >but again, I wasnt about to question it >after all, this might make my goals more easily met >At long last the train pulled into the Stalliongrad station >it was much colder this far north >snow fell softly and silently around us as we headed for our hotel >the clocks around town told me it was about nine o' clock in the evening >the sun had disappeared long ago, and we walked, with Rarity's luggage in tow in a large cart behind us, under the orange street lights >the sidewalk was mostly clear of snow, though some slush remained >i could tell she was unhappy about walking through the cold wetness >unfortunately there wasnt much of anything i could do for her hooves >i did offer to pull the cart a couple of times >she politely declined, saying that the cart was pulled via harness and that it would only be effectively towed by a quadroped such as herself >after a long bit of walking, we finally arrive at what appears to be our hotel >oh... >oh dear... >"Um... Rarity, are you sure-" "Yes! Look, just dont ask questions for now. I'll explain when we're in our room." >shes blushing really hard >then again how could she not? >shes about to walk into the "SeXXXual Motel" with a male >a human, no less >what have i gotten myself into... >as we entered, a stallion dressed in what appeared to be a sexy police officer uniform with a tight speedo in place of pants walked up to us >he had a tasteful amount of stubble and cool sunglasses >he looked like an idiot to me >i mean who the fuck wears sunglasses indoors unless they're a completely shameless tool >if thats the case then i guess i gotta give him credit for being so shameless "Ah, Miss Rarity I presume? Let me take that for you..." >Rarity slips out of the harness of the luggage cart and the stallion slips in >she brushes against me as she exits the harness and i notice just how sweaty she was >i really should've forced her to let me pull that cart >if only Bulks was here >that cart would've been less than a paperweight to him "Than you kindly, sir. Our room?" "Yes, right this way you too." >he winks at me as he says it >when he turns to lead us away down a hallway to our left i roll my eyes and let a small sigh escape >Rarity notices and gives me a stern look >shes still blushing slightly >we follow the attendant down the hall to an elevator with golden doors >the doors were probably the fanciest thing about this place >not a chandelier in sight, and there were visible hoofprints on the tile floors >so not Rarity's style... >finally, we arrived at our room >room number 330 >white paint, golden numbers - the usual stuff for hotel doors >the attendant took the room key and unlocked the door for us >upon flicking on the lights, my eyes were met with quite a sight >of course, from the name of the place, i kndof expected something like this, but it was still a bit of a shock >four-poster bed with a silk canopy and big head and foot boards >dozens of small cushions littered the room and the bed >the place even went so far as to install a bit-operated condom dispenser on the back wall >sweet Celestia what has this mare gotten us into... >Rarity nudged me as if to silence any comments i might have >luckily we were behind the attendant so he didn't see it >he dropped off our luggage (mostly Rarity's, of course) and left three identical keys on the counter "One for Miss Rarity, one for you, and one in case you lose a key." >he left the room, the door closing behind him with a surprisingly loud thud >"So, Rarity, care to explain?" "Look, Anon, it's not like i /wanted/ to stay in a place like this!" "The truth of the matter is that I couldn't make any reservations at any other four or five star hotels in the city. This place was reputed to be a four star motel, but they only rented out rooms for one, and getting two separate rooms would have drained all of my money for the week!" >"Oh... I see..." "So no, i didint mean anything by getting us only one bed in such a suggestive place - it was the only option. I hope you can be mature about it." >"Aaaah, dont worry Rarity. Its a lot nicer than my place, thats for sure." "Oh, I can only imagine how Bulk can make a mess of things. Whenever he house sits for Fluttershy she always comes home to find her cottage a complete disaster!" >"You know, speaking of those two lovebirds, I've been wondering - do you have anypony special in your life?" "Now why in Equestria would you go wondering about something like that?" >she gives me a sly look >a sly look that i find very enticing >"Oh, no reason outside innocent curiosity," I say as i abashedly scratch the back of my neck "Oh, please, Anon - i'm only joking." "The answer is no - ironically, the best dressed pony in all of Equestria has yet to get close enough to anypony to enter into a serious relationship with them." >"Well you may be the best dressed, but do you think you're also the most beautiful?" "Well now i'd be silly not to, Anon. One cannot be the best dressed if one does not wear their clothes with pride and confidence." >"Fair enough, I suppose..." "What? Are you saying im not?" >"No, no, not at all - in fact i think quite the opposite of you." "Well im flattered, Anon." >At least we're having good conversation "Well I have an early appointment with the producer tomorrow morning, so I must be getting to bed." >"I guess i'll go to bed too. Are you going to mind if i undress before bed? I don't normally sleep in anything but my underwear..." >Sorry - like I said, i keep my underwear on, so its not like i'll be entirely naked..." "Anon, in case you havent noticed, most ponies dont wear clothes on a regular basis. Really I'm the only pony who wears clothes outside of special occasions." >"Oh... yeah, you're right. Its just that in human society its considered shameful and uncivilized to not wear clothes, and especially around females of our species." "And I understand that, which is why I'm not about to recommend you just go stark naked all the time. I'm just saying that if it becomes necessary to lose your clothing, or you find yourself without it, dont worry too much - nopony's going to judge you too harshly." >"Thanks, I guess..." "Well, no need to thank me - i AM the element of generosity, after all." >"Clearly not the element of humility..." >With that, she slips under the covers and turns away from me, letting me undress >I strip down to my boxers and slip under the cool, crisp sheets on the other end of the bed >The day was pretty dull >I brought a couple of books to read, but otherwise i didn't have much to do while Rarity was out >I ended up napping at one point during the day >I was roused from my slumber by the fiery apparition of a letter from Twilight >to be more precise it was from Bulks, but he had Twilight send it on her good parchment >had her seal and everything >He wrote to wish me well and tell me to stay confident >he also wrote to tell me that Fluttershy was pregnant >the news simultaneously excited me and depressed me >this meant i'd have the house to myself and would have to pay the full rent on my own >he said he'd be moving in to Fluttershy's cottage soon, and that their wedding would be taking place soon >i couldnt help but wonder if he was marrying her out of custom or because he actually loved her enough to commit himself like that >I hope its the latter and not the former >i'd hate to see the two divorce and force their filly into that kind of marital crossfire >id been there as a human, and i can only imagine its just as painful and strenuous in Equestrian society >no kid should have to go through that shit >I sat there and thought about this new development until Rarity walked through the door >she looked a little worn out - something i expected from a competition like this "Anon! Have you just been sitting around here all day?" >"Umm, yeah. Why?" "That's not very healthy you know. Why don't we grab some coffee or something - i'd like to relax a little, and besides, you need to get out of this motel room." >"Yeah, why not? Got nothin else to do today." "Excellent - just let me get ready and we'll go." >I should've expected getting ready would take near half an hour >she's a rather vain mare, after all >thats something i like about her though >we ended up at a cafe about four blocks from the motel >it'd been snowing almost non-stop since we got there, and it made the streets feel more peaceful than normal >the snow absorbed much of the audible hustle and bustle of the city >and besides, a snowy landscape has always been something i find rather pretty >id take a snowy day over a cloudless summer afternoon any day >the cold only made it all the more satisfying when we entered the temperature-controlled environment of the cafe >i felt my cheeks warm and my body thaw out in a pleasant way >it warmed my heart a little >pulling her seat out for her, we sit down at an empty table near the window of the small shop >not being much one for caffeine, I order a hot chocolate >she orders an espresso - light, sweet and topped with lots of whipped cream >appropriately she chose to wear a beret to the place - no sunglasses, but it was better that way >as i said before, i think people who wear sunglasses when they arent needed look idiotic >while waiting for our drinks, I break the news to Rarity >"So I got a letter from Bulks today." "Oh? What'd he say?" >"Apparently Fluttershy is pregnant." >she seems surprised, but more sad than anything else >"Yep. Seems they're going to be wed in a few weeks. Bulks is moving in with her." "Im sure the ceremony will be wonderful. Fluttershy's always been a mare of good taste." >"I'll bet she'll want your advice, though. You're a mare of the /best/ tastes." "Yes, yes, I know she will. I'm just not so sure I'll be wanting to get involved..." >She looks down at the table gloomily >"Hey, Rarity... whats wrong?" >I guess she realized what she was doing >she looks back up at me with what i assume is a rather forced smile >something about it didn't seem quite right "Oh, nothing deary. Just a little lost in thought, thats all..." >"Yeah, i know how that goes. I get lost in thought all the time." "Ha! And doesn't everypony know it!" >Now whats that supposed to mean?" "Oh please, Anon! AppleJack is always telling everypony about how she finds you in the orchards just wandering aimlessly about. She says its like you're in your own little world!" "I even hear stories about you from Bulk, if you can imagine - you're becoming quite famous for your ditzyness. Even Pinkie can't hold a candle to how spacey you are!" >"Alright, I get it already - don't have to make it sound so bad..." "No no, Anon! Its not a bad thing - quite the opposite in my opinion." >"Oh really? How so?" "I've always admired stallions who can think deeper thoughts. Most of them are so brutish and blunt - they lack any sort of meaningful input whenever you talk to them. Its so dull!" "Especially Big Mac - you can't get much more than a yes or no out of that stallion!" >"But... aren't you in a singing group with him?" "Yes - you don't have to be the best of friends with the people you work with in order to work with them effectively." >"But the group is voluntary, is it not? How can you view him as a co-worker if its a volunteer group?" "See, Anon - this is exactly what i like about you. You ask questions, you take the time to know more about what a pony has to say." "Most stallions don't have the time or the brains to even care what an old mare like me has to say..." >"Pfft! Old? Hardly, Rarity. We're about the same age, after all. If you're old then im old!" "And on top of that, you're a sweet one too." >there's that sly look again >i think i could really get to like this mare >maybe even kiss her >our drinks arrive at long last, and Rarity begins slowly sipping hers >mine is still too hot to touch, let alone drink >i hate burning my tongue >A moment of calm silence passes before Rarity speaks again "So I take it you don't have anypony special in your life either." >"How'd you know?" "Well i heard about your relationship with Golden Harvest. Actually i've heard about all of them - even the one with Pinkie." "It seems none of them ever lasted very long, huh?" >"Yeah... they never even kissed me. Imagine that." "Well, at least you've had relationships, short and painful though they may have been." >"I still find it difficult to believe a mare like you has been single for so long." "And why might that be, Anon?" >"Well you're amazingly attractive for one thing. Nopony else radiates beauty quite like you do, Rarity." "Hehe, i'm flattered, Anon." >"Well its the truth, you know. And besides all of that you're a giving person, and you're a really sweet mare." "Well, all of that may be true to some extent, but everyone has their quirks." >"Well of course - id be a fool to think otherwise. However, I can't see why your quirks alone would have driven off potential suitors for this long." "To be quite honest with you, Anon, its not the stallions who have avoided me - rather, I have avoided them." >this came as a slight shock to me >"And why would you avoid romance so?" "I've just always been so dedicated to my work - i always saw love as a distraction from my tailoring and budding career. And to some extent I still do." >"To some extent?" "Well, for example, Fluttershy and Bulk having a foal together, getting married - its a kind of happiness i havent been able to experience. And of course that's not the only thing thats depressed me in this way before." "Now as I find myself growing older I also find myself longing somewhat for something like that. A committed adult relationship, full of love and understanding." >"Well im sure you wouldn't have much trouble finding a stallion who's interested in you. Have you tried putting yourself out there." "I would, Anon, but like I said, most stallions are just too... how shall i put this... shallow... for my tastes." "I may be looking, but im not desperate, and I have standards." >"Well in that case, let me ask you a question: Why don't mares want to be with me? Whats wrong with me?" "I cant honestly say why, Anon. I mean you're handsome enough, and its not like you're unkind or cruel to anypony. In fact you're one of the nicest residents of Ponyville, and having talked with you as much as i have on this trip i can say thats very true of you." "In fact, I wouldnt mind being with yo-" >she stops mid-sentence and spits out her espresso in shock >It gets all over my polo, covering me in brown spots >she starts blushing terribly "Oh! Anon! I'm so, so sorry! Please forgive me, I don't know what came over me just then!" >"I mean, its fine, Rarity, I'm just gonna have to wash this out a little harder next time to get the stains out, is all." "Dont be silly, Anon - i sullied it, I'll clean it out for you." >"Well not right now, obviously" >she gives me a really sarcastic look "When we get back to the motel, Anon." >"So you think im handsome, eh?" "Objectively speaking, yes." >shes back to her composed self, calmly sipping whats left of her espresso >i realize i havent even started on my drink yet >id been so wrapped up in our conversation i forgot all about it >there i go, spacing out again >I pick up the cup and start drinking it rather quickly >Rarity gives me a look out of the corner of her eye as i do so >I realize how improper i must look guzzling down my drink >"Hey, dont you give me that look - you just spit your drink all over me, after all." >she rolls her eyes in annoyance >the rest of the cafe visit passes by uneventfully >i ask her about her day and she tells me all about it >she seems pleased that i'm taking an interest in the more mundane aspects of her life >i genuinely am interested, though >shes a fascinating mare, to say the least >i cant help but want to know more about her >apparently the designs this week are centered around the theme of winter weather >makes sense, given the climate of Stalliongrad >we go back to the motel after a while and I order takeout food from a nearby restaurant >i dont know about her, but man cannot live on drink alone >i eat my food while she draws out designs on the motel's small table >eventually I head to sleep, and she follows soon after >i wake up a few times during the night to the sound of her moaning in her sleep >I couldve sworn she'd said my name a few times >the next couple of days went by pretty smoothly >After the first day i decided to go out and explore the city a little bit >i found a nice little park near the center of town and decided to hang out there most of the time >it was quiet and peaceful, set aside from the rush of the city life >the snow only furthered the sense of loneliness - a feeling which i welcomed >it gave me the mental space i needed to really think about things >especially about Rarity >i would walk around the park and just think for hours until the cold caught up with me >then id retreat to the motel room and warm up until Rarity got back >we'd go out and get coffee like before - only this time she managed to keep the coffee in her mouth >wed chat about our days >mostly hers, as i didn't do much with mine but think >eventually Friday rolled around and it was time for her final presentation to the judges >i attended the show, partially out of respect and partially out of a genuine interest in her clothing designs >i wasnt allowed to look at her drafts at all, so i had no idea what the finished products might look like >her designs were well insulated, yet still fluid and elegant >she was famous for her talent with intertwining practicality and style >she really showed off that talent that night >as i expected, she took first place in the competition >the joy on her face was indescribable >I couldnt help but be happy for her, too >for a moment in the chaos of victory, we locked eyes >her from the stage, me from a second row seat >the connection was pure electricity - i'd never felt id understood another person or pony's joy so well as i did Rarity's in that moment >it was fascinating - even though this wasn't the first award she'd received for her work by any stretch of the imagination, she acted like this was her first time winning anything ever >it was charming, to say the least >that night i took her out on our date >we went back to the motel and she got changed into something warm and stylish >she said she wasnt hungry, so we didn't end up going to a fancy dinner place >i told her i packed a tuxedo for the occasion and i intended to use it >she gave in, and changed her clothes yet again >it didnt take much to convince her >she was a mare who enjoyed the finer things, after all >and i'd learned that she loved to dance >she got dressed in a fancy gown, hair done up in a tall fashion >more makeup than usual >the works "We'd better be going somewhere fancy, Anon. I wore this dress to the Gala not too long ago - i expect this place to be just as stunning!" >"Don't worry - i've found the perfect place." >on the way to the ballroom, I noticed the decorations on the buildings and lightposts >i noticed all the couples out in the streets, holding hooves, kissing, or just being close >thats when it hit me >it was Hearts and Hooves day >this made me ever more determined to make the night perfect for both of us >this Hearts and Hooves day, Rarity was going to be my special somepony, and I hers >even if it was only for one night >i noticed her start to shiver next to me >i didnt feel a thing, so i took off my coat and put it around her >she didnt say anything, but i guess she appreciated it >she tugged it tight around her and kept walking >i guess she was just too proud to admit she was cold >eventually we arrived at the ballroom doors >much to my shock, horror and disappointment, the sign on the door read 'Closed' >"Oh, man..." "Well? What now, Anon?" >"I dont know... I didn't really account for this possibility. I didn't think they'd be closed on a night like tonight." "It does seem strange that a ballroom would be closed on the night of Hearts and Hooves..." >my mind was racing trying to think of something to do >"I know! Rarity, why dont we go to the park!" >she sighs "I suppose thats better than nothing, Anon..." >"Aw, come on! It'll be alright. We can even dance together there - there wont be too many people around this time of night." "Well... I do love to dance, Anon. A park is better than nowhere..." >we walk to the park together in relative silence >it doesnt feel like an uncomfortable silence to me; maybe it does for her, but i dont really know how to break the silence >and besides, i was enjoying the quiet time spent with her >we arrive and find it mostly deserted, save a few lovers doing... lewd... things in the underbrush near the edge >acting as if nopony could see them >*sigh* >oh, to be young and stupid again >but i missed that chance >and so did Rarity >we walk through the trees until we come to the small pond near the center >we stop on a stone path around its bank, and i turn to her and bow, my hand outstretched "Well? Care to dance?" >she placed her hoof in my hand, and i took it, pulling her upright on her hind legs >with my other arm, i wrapped around the small of her back, and pulled her in tight "Anon, need you be so forceful?" >our noses nearly touched in that moment >I began to breathe in her air >it felt magnificent >after that i let her take the lead >we danced on and on for what felt like hours, turning and bouncing gracefully across the snow-covered cobble like a pair of swans >those dance lessons i took in high school were really paying off now >after a while of this we both ran out of breath, and went to rest on a hill just inside the treeline >we were both breathing heavily, and covered in frozen sweat >we sat down on the rise overlooking the peaceful, frozen lake >the light of the moon reflected off of the ice's surface majestically >it reminded me of the mare i'd come to adore these past few days "Anon, I'm freezing. Mind if i borrow your coat again?" >"No problem." >I hand her my coat and she quickly wraps it around herself tightly >i can see she's shivering >listening to her teeth chatter and her frozen breaths starts to make me feel cold as well >before i know it im also shivering in the cold >A moment later, I feel an arm wrap around my shoulder, and with it came the warm inside of my coat "Here, Anon. We'll share it." >"A-a-are you sure its alright?" >damn this cold, making me stutter "I'm the generous one, Anon. I'm not about to selfishly hog the coat and watch you shiver." >as soon as i wrap the half of the coat around me, Rarity scoots in closer to me >our sides are pressed tightly together now - we decided to zip up the coat to keep in the most heat, and now we're squeezed into it like too much meat in a soft taco >at one point i decide to try and make things a little more comfortable in the coat >I turn my body to face hers and i put my arms around her back >much to my surprise she does the same, and before i know it we're embracing like lovers inside this coat >in our tight embrace, our heads on each others shoulders, i start to feel her heart beat >its racing out of control >taking note of this, i also notice she's breathing rather heavily down my neck >these indicators cause my heart to race as well, and i also begin to breathe heavily >"Rarity... what are we doing?" >I ask the question and she hugs me even tighter than before >she nuzzles my neck affectionately "I don't know, Anon. But i don't want to stop." >"Neither... neither do i, Rarity." "Anon... i've been a lonely mare for far too long, now. I want to experience what all these other mares get to experience, feel what all these other mares love so much." >she loosens up in her embrace and brings her eyes around to meet my own "Anon... can you help me?" "Will you be my special somepony?" >"Oh, Rarity..." >I was at a loss for words >shed asked me to be what i wanted to be all along >and now, in this moment, i couldnt think of the right words to say >the only thing i could think of to do was... >before giving it too much thought, i close my eyes and press my lips against hers >i keep mine pressed against hers for a moment before pulling back >but as I do, she closes her teary eyes and follows with a kiss of her own >our lips locked in a tender, loving embrace, she moves her forelegs around my neck and leans in to me >this causes me to fall backwards into the snow >we land, she laying on top of me now, lips still locked >i put my arms around her lower back and hug tightly >we kiss and kiss and kiss until we cant kiss anymore >then we kiss again >every time our lips touch is like a small spark of electricity >i feel my soul vibrate with adoration and affection, childlike and still genuine >we kiss and cuddle and tumble about in the snow for hours - so long in fact that the sun begins to rise before we stop for more than a minute >in that moment, she lying beside me, forelegs wrapped around my torso, eyes closed, breathing calmly with her head resting against my shoulder >in that moment, I found what i was looking for >love - plain and simple >i loved Rarity, i just hadn't figured it out before that night >i was planning on just getting that kiss and calling it quits >but now that i've spent this time with her; now that i see her for the mare she truly is >it is only now that i realize just how much i truly love her "Dear?" >im brought back to reality by the sound of her voice "Is it alright if i call you that now?" >"Sure, hun. Can i call you hun?" "Hehe - you may." >"So what is it, hun?" "I was thinking we might want to head back to the motel - its getting early." >"Ha! Its rare one gets the chance to say that..." "Yes, it most certainly is a Rarity..." >after that fateful trip, we became inseparable >not in that annoying adolescent way >but we did become extremely close >we built up our relationship over almost a year and a half >and during that time, we had out arguments and disagreements, but we never lost sight of what was important >we never lost sight of each other >after a while, we started having sex >it was magical - the best thing i'd ever experienced >and it only brought us closer together >obviously she couldn't conceive any kind of biological offspring, so we decided to adopt a foal of our own >after we got married, of course >now Rarity, our son and I live peacefully in the Boutique >and I can live out the rest of my days here in Equestria knowing that, in the end >I finally found what i was looking for >I finally found my special somepony   (fin)
