She said that she just liked the interior design of her friend’s cottage, but Fluttershy could tell that she was scared of anypony seeing her. She was beginning to get concerned - as much as she loved having Rainbow Dash all to herself, it wasn’t like her to have such low self-esteem. One night, a little while after their monthiversary, Fluttershy planned a surprise. She let out a sigh of relief as she looked over her handiwork. An good-sized feast was covering the table, compromised of all of Rainbow Dash’s favorite foods - hayburgers, fries, pizza, chocolate shakes, daisy sandwiches, and - of course - plenty of cider. Fluttershy had spent all afternoon making everything perfect while Rainbow Dash took a nap on the couch. As she took off her apron, she called out to her friend in the other room. “Rainbow Dash! Dinner’s ready!” Fluttershy heard a bit of clunking, a loud WHUMP followed by some inaudible curses, and an “I’m okay!” come from the couch as the sound of creaking floorboards approached. Fluttershy almost furrowed her brow in concern, but remembered at the last moment that Rainbow Dash needed to feel better about herself tonight, not feel like anypony was worried about her. She swapped out her sadness for a smile. Finally, the blue mare entered through the door to the dining room. Rainbow seemed winded by her little promenade from the couch to the cook, and it was easy to tell why. Her stomach fell to her knees, brushing against her legs when she walked, and her rear was almost too wide to fit through the door. She’d put on even more weight since their special breakfast, and her cheeks sagged a little as well. Fluttershy couldn’t remember the last time she’d seen her fly, but kept her mouth shut and grinned as she stepped aside to show the dinner she’d cooked. Fluttershy blushed a little as her friend gasped in wonder at the meal set before them. Her double chin jiggled as she began giggling uncontrollably and quickly sat herself down at the end of the long table. Fluttershy sat at the opposite end, with most of the food between them. Rainbow Dash helped herself to three hayburgers and fries to start, while Fluttershy seemed content with a daisy sandwich. As she bit into the bread, her eyes drifted up to see her friend’s tongue searching the corners of her mouth for any missed morsels of food. She’d already finished her first burger and was making head way on the second, stopping occasionally for a sip of a milkshake. She seemed to be avoiding the cider, which stuck out like a sore thumb to Fluttershy, but she didn’t say anything. “Wow, Fluttershy,” said Rainbow Dash as she finished her second burger. “This tastes really good. Is this market stuff?” Fluttershy blushed again. “I bought the patties and buns from the marketplace, but the rest is homegrown. I cooked it all myself, too.” Rainbow Dash grunted. “It’sh delicious. You’re a fantashtic cook!” “My goodness! Thank you so much.” “I’m serioush!” she said mid-swallow. She grabbed a few more fries and a daisy sandwich. “Have you ever considered being a chef?” “Oh, no, Rainbow. I couldn’t do that.” “Why not?” “I don’t have the time to go out and cook for fancy restaurants. I’ve got enough here at home that needs my help.” Rainbow Dash was preoccupied with slurping the bottom of the milkshake, but a raised eyebrow was enough to get Fluttershy’s attention. “I’m talking about you, of course.” Rainbow Dash had to forcefully stop herself from spitting the dregs of her milkshake out over the Margherita pizza. “Excuse me?!” Fluttershy hadn’t expected Rainbow Dash to get so angry, but she continued anyways. “I couldn’t leave you here alone, Rainbow Dash. You need food, company, affection… you need me.” Rainbow Dash scowled as she bit into her daisy sandwich. “I don’t need anyone. I can do jusht fine on my own.” “Rainbow…” Fluttershy whispered. A long silence followed, filled only by the sounds of Rainbow Dash munching away on her sandwich, then reaching over the table to get her housemate’s half-finished one. Finally, Fluttershy spoke up. “Rainbow, even if you could… would you really want to be on your own?” The pegasus chewed as she pondered this thought. She swallowed and sighed. “No, I… I wouldn’t. You’re right. I’m sorry, Fluttershy.” She got up to give Fluttershy a hug but suddenly fell back into her chair with a THUD. Rainbow glanced down at herself in confusion, while Fluttershy looked on in awe. Her stomach, pressed against the table, had nowhere else to go but between her legs, and while it wasn’t too bad when she’d started, the pegasus’s binge had pressed them so far apart that she couldn’t even get them on the ground. Rainbow seemed horrified at her rump, plastered in the seat and squished against the sides of the chair so hard that the two cheeks acted as a pillow to the rest of her body. Rainbow Dash tried to look around, but her double chin had grown enough during dinner to make neck mobility nigh impossible. Rainbow Dash began hyperventilating. Again, she tried to stand up, but her legs couldn’t quite reach the floor, dangling uselessly on either side of her enormous stomach. Pushing herself up with her forelegs proved futile as she nearly toppled the table with her sheer mass. She couldn’t even push the chair far away enough from the table without knocking it over. Finally, in an act of desperation, she unfolded her wings and flapped with all her might. Nothing. The once majestic pair of wings now seemed tiny and frail in comparison to the massive mare. The were not enough to get her off the ground and they were not enough to even propel her in either direction. Rainbow Dash ignored this and continued to flap. Faster. Harder. She had to get up. She had to. Fluttershy had been watching from the other end of the table. The food on the table which had been blocking her line of sight was now gone, and she could see perfectly her friend’s dilemma. Slowly, she got up and approached Rainbow Dash. She was about to pull her chair out a bit when the pegasus turned with alarming speed. “NO!” she yelled. Fluttershy stepped back, frightened. Rainbow Dash had tears streaming down her face, mixing with grease on her bloated cheeks from the pizza. “I can do it myself!” Fluttershy stayed silent as she watched Rainbow Dash furiously attempt to get herself out of the chair, until she finally was just shaking her seat back and forth. She was sobbing hysterically, rocking the chair, and flapping her wings, all in vain. Finally, she was too exhausted to try anymore. She sat in her seat, trapped, crying. Fluttershy stepped forwards and wrapped her friend in her traditional hug - at least, as best she could, considering her hooves didn’t quite reach all the way around Rainbow Dash. In fact, she was noticeably smaller in size, having to stand up on her hind hooves to reach her friend’s face. Rainbow Dash was still crying, but leaned into the hug, wrapping her hooves around Fluttershy as well. Fluttershy sank into her embrace, warm and genuine, but still distressed. “Rainbow Dash…” The pegasus sniffled and grunted as she tried to clear her throat enough to speak. “Y-yeah?” “It’s okay to need help.” Rainbow Dash’s breathing increased as she held back another wave of tears. “It’s not that! It’s different! I’d be okay with needing help if I myself weren’t so… so…” “Helpless?” Rainbow Dash collapsed into a sobbing mess. Fluttershy continued to hold her tightly, not saying a word. After a while, she gave her a squeeze. “Wait here,” she said. Rainbow Dash almost rolled her eyes at that statement, but opted to cry again instead. Fluttershy stood up - she’d found herself practically sitting on Rainbow’s stomach - and opened the door to a closet in the corner of the room. She pulled out a large, round mirror on wheels and pushed it over to Rainbow Dash’s right side. She then crossed back over to her left and looked in the mirror with Rainbow Dash. “What do you see?” asked Fluttershy. Rainbow Dash furrowed her brow and sniffed. “A fat, ugly, useless mare who can’t even fly.” Fluttershy clicked her tongue. “Rainbow Dash… you’re not seeing everything wonderful about yourself.” She climbed back onto her and wrapped her up in another hug, still looking into the mirror. “Sure, you might not be able to fly right now, but you’re not useless. You bring a purpose into my life, Rainbow Dash. If it weren’t for you, I’d still be up in Cloudsdale, bullied and ashamed.” She snuggled her closer, resting her head on Rainbow’s shoulder. “I can barely fly, remember? Does that make me useless?” Rainbow Dash shook her head slowly. “No, no. You’re the opposite of useless, Fluttershy. You do everything for me.” “As for ugly,” continued Fluttershy, “you are anything but. Look at your lovely mane, with all of the colors of the Rainbow! Look at those bright pink eyes, so full of love, and your round blue curves to top it all off. Fat? Definitely. Beautiful? Absolutely. Rainbow Dash, your size and capabilities don’t mean that you’re useless. I think you are the most gorgeous mare in all of Equestria, and if anything, your weight makes you even more so.” Rainbow Dash turned her head to see Fluttershy’s face almost touching hers. “You really think so?” Fluttershy nodded. “I know so.” She wrapped her hooves around Rainbow Dash’s neck and pulled herself up slowly, pressing her lips onto Rainbow Dash’s. A few moments of tender bliss passed as the two ponies kissed gently, one on top of the other, simply breathing in each other’s presence. Rainbow Dash pulled away, needing a breath. “Rainbow Dash…” whispered Fluttershy, “don’t be ashamed of what you are when what you are is perfect.” Rainbow Dash breathed heavily. “F-Fluttershy… I just… don’t want to be anywhere else…” Her friend bowed her head in agreement. “I understand. I love having you here with me… but I do have one request…” “Y-yeah?” “Will you be my marefriend?” Rainbow Dash blushed and laughed. “Fluttershy… there’s nothing I’d rather be.”
