so i'm kinda taking liberties with the histories of background ponies
which you know
par for the course

well like
they'll show up in flashbacks and stuff
things you can infer
half of these stories were conceived in 2013-2015 when the state of canon was far different
this is a fairly newer one though
but thunderlane, i have him either having lived in ponyville his entire life
or moved there when he was young, likely right after rumble was born
and this first story here is focused around two things
1. his (and pretty much every teenage pegasus in ponyville's) desire to join the wonderbolts
2. him being a sleezy fuckboy
now this story will probably be rated M, but it's certainly not clop by any means of the imagination
well, i mean, i;m certain some imaginations but you get me
most of these stories are set in the weird little interm period where i imagine most of the background ponies/similarly aged main and secondary characters are all teenager
so like right before luna shows back up

the first story starts after Daisy breaks off a pretty long lasting relationship with thunderlane
and the story is all told from thunderlane's perspective, so we just immediately get him talking shit about her to his best friend, who i've deigned as blossomforth
and the thing is, blossomforth has a totally not subtle thing for thunderlane that thunderlane really doesnt pick up on
because he's so focused on himself
a lot of the earlier chapters are just him dealing with the fallout of Daisy telling all his secrets to their friends
creating a sort of schism between the ponies who like thunderlane and those who don't
mostly these "secrets" consist of embarrassing sex stuff, but thunderlane is able to pull off harder shade on daisy
doing some pretty slimy shit like revealing that she was cheating on him with Roseluck, and for the most part everyone is kinda not wanting to get involved
and daisy is pretty militant and shit-talky about it, so that drives people towards thunderlane unconsciously simply out of sympathy
only issue is thunderlane is totally just getting drunk constantly and fucking everyone except blossomforth he comes in contact with
this serves as sort of just the set up to what actually drives the story forward, which is when thunderlane and several of the other pegasi are just doing mock-wonderbolts stuff
just things that they're prepping for when they go to flight camp at whatever point in the future
when our good friend Photo Finish shows up doing her bi-decadely scouting of hick towns to exploit for models
and she thinks thunderlane is some spicy schnitzel
so now thunderlane is given the same issue fluttershy was
(who isnt present at any of this at this time, the only reason photo finish noticed her in the show is because she was forced to not be a recluse by her friends)
and thunderlane sees it as an easy out immediately, and even as a stepping stone to get into the wonderbolts ahead of everyone else
so of course he jumps right at it
this infuriates daisy and the three other-odd ponies who are on her side of the "schism", but mostly this depresses the fuck out of blossomforth because now thunderlane is paying even less attention to her
and i want to make it pretty clear that blossomforth isnt being overly thirsty or anything, thunderlane is pretty hardcore ignoring her and taking her friendship for granted a lot

now everyone is making fun of thunderlane, and he's dealing with it... fairly well
which is to say drinking heavily and focusing entirely on fucking high end ponies that his model gig hooks him up with
he gets into the seedy underbelly (if you catch my driftwood) really quickly
ends up trading secrets for sex, and sex for secrets
and his half life between canterlot and ponyville is really
jading him, for lack of a better word
he's lost sight of wanting to do wonderbolt stuff pretty much
he still shows up to the mock practices, "the ponyville team"
but he's always drunk and rude at them
and one time he slams into Derpy and knocks her really hard into the ground
and like, Derpy wasnt exactly the fastest around before then, but this is what gives her her wall eye
and there's definitely brain damage implied

yeah see he's got more important things to do, like dodging the rest of his karma
a sub-plot that's been going on since thunderlane made it to canterlot
that actually ties into several other series (my goal is to make each series interlocking but cohesive on its own)
but Lyra has been sort of a musical prodigy and big name since she was a foal
her main claim to fame was genre transcendence, usually using her magic to manipulate how her harp sounds
so she could get sounds that were usually restricted to griffons or dragons
i know ponies can play guitars with their hooves in the show

but my workaround is that they're all basically like bass/ukeleles in that they have four large strings
and that more specific stringed instruments are very difficult for them to use
that's why Octavia is so impressive in-universe, actually
but Lyra has been a part of different music supergroups throughout her teenage years and early adulthood
this has brought her into contact with octavia and vinyl
vinyl plays a more important role here as she's the producer
before she goes off to make her own electronica and the classical/techno fusion she does with octavia when they settle down in ponyville, she's basically the Aphex Twin of the pony music scene
or rather, my bad
she becomes the Aphex Twin, but starts off as the Steve Albini
but Lyra currently has a more punk setup with her band, including one longstanding member and friend she's had (who will be important in the second story), Goner Gale
Gale gets entangled with thunderlane almost immediately
because she is basically a mare thunderlane in the Lyra stories
anyway, Gale and Thunderlane become entangled, and she prompts Thunderlane (along with Lyra, who has been to ponyville often enough to know him) to record a bit with them and Vinyl
which further strays him from the path of the ponyville wonderbolts hopefuls
the story ends out with him giving the proverbial finger to ponyville, essentially only seeing it as a place he's going to return on tour either as a model or as a guest with Lyra's band
but not before Blossomforth comes forward about her feelings to thunderlane
and this would be the final chapter of the first story

either have him go "it's possible but right now it's too much" because his tiny inkling of a good reason for treating her like this is that she's an old foalhood friend and basically like
the deepest friendship he has
and even he has a line he wont cross

i know how to end the first one
he silently considers that line he has been hesitating to cross
and thinks about everything that's happened
and wonders to himself
"why leave any barriers in my way?"
and the story ends with him taking blossomforth back to his room
