Lesson on Spirits!

[12:05 AM] Deo: Today we will be going over Spirits.
[12:05 AM] Jon: Anyone met one before?
[12:05 AM] Kreo: Yes

[12:06 AM] Deo: The word spirit has many connotations and changes based on the culture and context it is used.
[12:06 AM] Kreo: Events kinda just my trigger happy ping role tbh
[12:07 AM] Liv: I have dealt with demons and spirits. Kreo helped me out when I got attacked one night.
[12:07 AM] Minyeokkoch: Animal spirits are my jam lol
[12:08 AM] Deo: Often it is used in one of a few ways
1) Interchangable with the notion of a Soul, an intangiable part of every person, and in some views of many or all things. 
2)A sort of intangiable incorporeal metaphysical being 
3) One's innate drive or will
4) Something wonderful to drink
[12:08 AM] Deo: We will be focusing on the second sort of spirit tonight.
[12:09 AM] Deo: Though if any of you would like to go and fetch something of the fourth varity as we all get settled here I won't stop you.
[12:10 AM] Minyeokkoch: Why drink alcohol when you can drink the wonderful juice of the lord ???

[12:11 AM] Deo: So~ There are many kinds of spirits. Some of you have interacted with one or more kinds before. I'm sure many of us could share countless stories pertaining to beings that do not exsist in the physical form.
[12:12 AM] Jon: Everything is light. What we perceive is only a limited spectrum of what is out there.
[12:12 AM] Deo: The most common sort of spirit I tend to call a Wisp or simply, a Lesser Spirit. Imagine a being made up of errant energy wandering without form or purpose.
[12:12 AM] Deo: Something with only the base amount of instinct that is neither sentient or sapient.
[12:13 AM] Deo: These are beings that want nothing more than to become more than what they are.
[12:15 AM] Deo: They are highly open to influence. Echos of people, places, emotions trickeling into them to give them form. They take the shape of what is expected from our unconsciousness and our culture. They do all they can to find a place that is somewhat static so they do not loose what small semblance of self they can accumliate.
[12:16 AM] Deo: We live in a world with few animists and shamans. Where very few know how to give these things a proper place and so many are aimless and some turn to provking responses from us. Fear. Pain. Sorrow...they can be a powerful thing that gets one noticed which in turn, allows them to manifest even more vividly.
[12:16 AM] Deo: Combine that with popular culture and the collective expecation of negative entities such a demons and specters and...you end up with many bad situations.
[12:17 AM] Deo: That is why I wanted to teach this lesson tonight. To help you all gain a better understanding of this phenomenon. How you can protect yourself, others, and perhaps even give these beings a place that is more constructive.
[12:17 AM] Deo: Are there any preliminary questions?
[12:18 AM] kpence: Hmm not really. I could see this being how it is.
[12:19 AM] Minyeokkoch: I mentioned the other night two different malevolent spirits I encountered when I was younger.

And one being that I wasn't sure was a spirit. Doubt it was.
[12:19 AM] Minyeokkoch: Too... human.
[12:20 AM] Deo: Not to get too deep into the mechanics that make up a physical indiviudal, or the mechanics that surround what happens when we shrug off of our mortal coil but...I'd say in almost every situation I've encountered that a ghost is merely a spirit using the echo of someone to better manifest, rather than the person who has passed on.
[12:21 AM] kpence: Are our thoughts reflections of these spirits?
[12:22 AM] Deo: It's more like the spirits are often reflections of our thoughts, espeically when you are dealing with things of the Astral.
[12:22 AM] kpence: hmm ok
[12:23 AM] kpence: I say my prayer to ward off negative spirits
[12:25 AM] Liv: I have wandering spirits come all the time. They will do things like mess with my basement door and make noises to get my attention but I realize it is only them wanting attention so I ignore them and if they don’t stop then in a firm voice I tell them they are not welcomed here and this is my domain. That usual gets rid of them. Kreo has only had to help me twice. Once because a demon was attacking me in my sleep and the other time was because the spirit wasn’t listening to me
[12:25 AM] Deo: nods So. I have a question for all of you, based on those last two statements.
[12:26 AM] Deo: Based on what I have said, why would prayer ward off negative spirits or simply telling them to go away combined with ignoring them in most situations?(edited)
[12:26 AM] Liv: Because they only really have as much power as we give them right?
[12:26 AM] kpence: ^ ?
[12:27 AM] Deo: These are beings influenced heavily by us. By our belief. Our expectations. Our culture.
[12:27 AM] Deo: Having firm conviction and belief when you begin to banish and purify is what is working.
[12:28 AM] Minyeokkoch: For the spirits I saw, it took removing a demon from myself to get rid of them.
[12:28 AM] Deo: Sage. Holy Water. Blessed Metals. Inscense. All of this is merely a means of channeling your conviction. Combine this with how influenced these lesser spirits are by collective culture and you have a powerful means of banishment.
[12:28 AM] Savant: I've done exorcism and have had my fair share of fighting in the spiritual
[12:29 AM] Deo: Fun fact. Exorcisims have been increasing since 1973 and were virtually unheard of before then in most of the western world.(edited)

[12:30 AM] kpence: I think many exorcisms go about it the wrong way
[12:30 AM] Liv: But ever since I started actually practicing my magic rather than just studying, I haven’t had to deal with any wandering spirits. Idk if it is where I shield the house at night or what. But I haven’t had anything bother me or my dog in a long time

[12:31 AM] Deo: Many lesser spirits pantomime things because that is what is expected
[12:31 AM] kpence: I think demons use pseudo-exorcisms to gaslight susceptible people
[12:32 AM] Deo: What most people call a Demon is merely a lesser spirit that has managed to gain some semblance of self awareness through causing fear/pain/negativity.
[12:32 AM] kpence: lol that makes sense
[12:32 AM] Deo: Or is a simple lesser spirit doing what is expected of it.
[12:32 AM] Deo: Spirits need a place.
[12:32 AM] kpence: it's still freaky though....
[12:32 AM] Liv: I had someone who has studied demonology inform me it was a demon attacking me.
[12:32 AM] kpence: nvm. it's fine, no one is at fault
[12:32 AM] Liv: I didn’t think it was anything
[12:33 AM] Liv: I just thought they were stress dreams
[12:33 AM] Deo: Some people are very in tune with their dreams.
[12:33 AM] Deo: Other people's dreams happen within the astral which takes the shape of their dream space. But that is another lesson best not taught by me. I do not dream.

[12:34 AM] Deo: This is a practice that has fallen by the wayside, one of many that once provided a place for wayward spirits.
[12:34 AM] Deo: I share this not to ask you to do this, but merely to highlight one of many things that we as a people used to do that we no longer do.
[12:35 AM] Deo: We live in an age of restless spirits.
[12:36 AM] Deo: Once many cultures attributed spirits to be a part of all things. Spirits of rocks and rivers. Of sky and hearth. Of sacred and not so sacred places.

[12:38 AM] Deo: I have taken negative spirits and bound them to groves and cultivated them to have a new purpose and role. I know of people who coax spirits into their gardens to increase yeilds and shield agaisnt frost. An insturment that is home to one. More.
[12:39 AM] Deo: Banishment sometimes is the only avenue, afterall once a spirit becomes too negative there is little to be done.
[12:39 AM] Deo: However it is possible to leave small offerings out or to place a stone somewhere and designate it as a house for spirits.
[12:39 AM] Deo: To try to guide them.
[12:39 AM] Deo: To give them shape and purpose.
[12:39 AM] Deo: To be proactive, rather than reactive.
[12:40 AM] Savant: Wait so is that why my most advanced servitors begin developing their own personalities?
[12:40 AM] Deo: It is also possible to create a vessel for spirits in the form of constructrs and tulpa.
[12:41 AM] Deo: And yes, at times when interacted with properly...when given place they can become something greater than a Wisp.
[12:41 AM] Deo: They can devlop Sentience or at times even Sapiance.
[12:41 AM] Deo: I do ask if a spirit in your service seems to be in the process of becomming independent to ask if it wishes to leave you service every so often. When it says yes, allow it to go.
[12:42 AM] Deo: Another will soon take it's place.
[12:43 AM] Savant: I'll be sure to make that a practice.

[12:43 AM] Deo: I can feild some more questions before we continue, I know this is a lot to take in.
[12:43 AM] Liv: How do we know what to leave as an offering?
[12:44 AM] Savant: Causes a lot things to make more sense
[12:44 AM] Liv: I naturally draw wandering spirits to me. So I wouldn’t mind giving them a purpose
[12:45 AM] Deo: Trust yourself and trust your instincts. That said I've found offerings of solidified sunlight to be quite popular. Honey and Alchol generally.
[12:45 AM] Deo: I also leave out rice, grains are good too.
[12:46 AM] Liv: Okay! And I actually keep organic local honey on hands at all times, so that will be easy. I’m spoiled and I have to have it organic and local. My mom tried to buy dollar store and I told her it was corn syrup and how could she try to pass it as honey :joy:

[12:51 AM] Liv: I swear I have like all this knowledge in my head, I just can’t access it completely.

[12:52 AM] Deo: Part of awakening is...being able to better accsess your deeper knowledge.
[12:52 AM] Deo: You're on the right path.
[12:52 AM] Deo: Anyway.
[12:52 AM] Deo: Wards!
[12:52 AM] Deo: A lot of people just starting out have trouble with spirits.
[12:53 AM] Deo: I've met people beset by them, accousted by them non stop.
[12:53 AM] Deo: This is because they are aware that spirits are a thing, and this combined with a lack of cultivated defenses makes them easy for various spirits, especially negative ones to mess with them.
[12:53 AM] Deo: The best ward you can make requires nothing more than Salt, Daylight, and Conviction.
[12:56 AM] Deo: Take the salt during a bright sunny day and sprinkle it in the four corners of your bedroom, and the four corners of any room anyone sleeps.
[12:56 AM] Deo: As you do this focus on the thought that this is Your Domain
[12:56 AM] Deo: And that nothing may enter it uninvited if it means to do harm.
[12:56 AM] Deo: You do not need a lot of salt. It is a symbol, and the crystals that make it up help act as a focus in unison with it as a symbol.
[12:56 AM] Deo: This creates a powerful ward in your home.
[12:56 AM] Deo: That will keep out almost all lesser spirits.

[1:03 AM] Liv: I’ve not had any lessor spirits anymore since I salted my room and I shield the house at night. And ever since Kreo helped me, nothing has really bothered me
