The Pokemon in the surrounding areas were definitely way too powerful and aggressive for a run-of-the-mill Trainer to just up and capture or befriend… Then again, if that would have stopped Corey, he wouldn’t be on his journey right now, would he? Born with the heart of an explorer, Corey found Opelucid City on its own to be far too bland for his tastes, so it didn’t take long for his wandering mind to drag his body along for the fun. Sneaking out at night to go watch the wild Pokemon in the area, Corey couldn’t have been any less content with just scaling the mountains just to watch the wild Pokemon. Still, it would have been nice to have a friend to just travel around and explore with him… All of Corey’s other friends were too scared of the wild Pokemon to actually do anything exciting. It was too dangerous for their tastes. Corey’s search for a friend in the wilderness, one that wouldn’t mangle him on sight, finally came to an end when he stumbled across an egg high up on a cliff. Scurrying up, he quickly found that the egg was shaking, cracking open and ready to hatch. Inside was a little baby Rufflet, complete with that new hatched smell (not to mention the new hatched appearance, covered in goopy egg juices and stuff). Needless to say, the bond was instant, though Corey didn’t take it quite yet. With no PokeBalls to call his own, getting the Rufflet back down would have not only been difficult, but dangerous not only to himself, but the little Rufflet as well. Corey ended up saving as much of his allowances as he could until eventually he managed to save up enough for a PokeBall, visiting the Rufflet every night to feed and play with it as he did so. When he finally did manage to save up enough for his first PokeBall, he wasted no time in rushing himself out to the cliff, pent up with so much excitement that one just might think him about to explode. He didn’t care that this time it was in broad daylight. He just wanted to finally bring his new friend home. At 10 in the morning that day, he made it back up to the cliff, and forged the bond with his feathered friend . . . Only to find as he was on his way down that she . . . Actually had a mother. A large Mandibuzz came swooping down upon Corey as he panickedly scrambled down the side of the cliff, knocking him off and sending him tumbling down. He was lucky enough that he made it as far down as he did before the attack, and that another Trainer en route to Victory Road was present and willing to save his sorry ass, or he wouldn’t have likely made it out alive, or at least not without more than just a broken leg, amongst other less noteworthy injuries. Despite this misfortune, Corey wasn’t particularly shaken. Sure, he might have developed a debilitating phobia of Mandibuzz as a result, but his adventurers’ spirit was still intact. With time (as in enough time for Corey to be able to walk on his own without falling over immediately in excruciating pain), Corey was back on his feet, and back at what he loved doing… Though now that Corey had a Pokemon to call his friend and companion, his vision extended far beyond the mountainous terrain surrounding him. As such, Corey set off from Opelucid, in pursuit of whatever adventure may come his way.
