By that, I mean he’s spent the whole of his life in the hospital. Taken out of the womb two months early due to health issues that would have killed both himself and his mother (had she gone full term), complications caused by a forced premature birth have plagued Theo for the entirety of his life. Though he’s tried on many occasions to assimilate into the real world and lead a normal life, every attempt ends with another hospitalization after finding out the hard way about some as-of-yet undiscovered new complication. Among the most recent of Theo’s misfortunes was caused by a trip to the park. While there, a Coordinator was showing off some of her Pokemon and their moves to entertain the children. Among the Pokemon there, Theo’s interest was immediately caught by a Poliwhirl blowing bubbles out of its spinning circle thing. He went over to play with the Poliwhirl, but after a few minutes he started to break out in hives. His throat tightened, and it felt like Theo couldn’t breathe. An ambulance run later, and Theo was made aware of his newfound allergies to the fluids that the Poliwag lineage excretes to keep themselves from drying out while on land. Banished from the outside world, Theo became afflicted with despair, and began to idle his time by helping the medical staff in the hospital. However, he still longed for the day that he could be free from the imprisonment of the hospital. That day finally came when he saw a wild Tropius land in front of the hospital. Theo grabbed his inhaler and his EpiPen and made a book for it, sprinting out as fast as he could. Nimbly ducking under, jumping over and sidestepping the doctors who tried to grab him on his way out, with the occasional slide between the legs, Theo ran out and hopped on the Tropius’s back. Holding onto the Tropius with one hand and the inhaler now in his mouth with the other, he flew off into the sunset for freer lands. Edwin Edwin was raised in Hearthrome City as a young child before his parents, paranoid that the city life would “corrupt” him, decided to move out to the recesses of Snowpoint City. This decision turned out to be disastrous, however, when a wild Ursaring attacked his family on their way up. Though Edwin was lucky enough to have been saved by a monk who was on his morning stroll, his parents didn’t fare so well, both being mauled by it. Up until recently, Edwin had been living in the monastery, apprenticing in the arts of spiritual healing and purification and training himself to become physically fit in the harsh, hailing middle of nowhere, until the monk who had saved him fell ill. Though he tried to save the Monk, his skills proved to be insufficient, and was unable to help him. Guiltridden over being unable to have saved his savior, Edwin left the Monastery, hoping to refine his skills elsewhere, so that never again will he be unable to help someone who needs him… After leaving the monastery, carrying little more than the few clothes he owned, a couple days’ worth of food, and a Edwin was on his way north to Snowpoint, where the boat would take him to when he was chased by a Teddiursa. It pursued Edwin for a good hour, and Edwin had almost made it to Snowpoint when he stumbled over a rock buried in the snow and fell to the ground. Edwin thought all was lost when a pile of snow burst up into the air and buried the Teddiursa alive. Edwin looked up find his savior, a Delibird, and the two have been friends ever since.
