- >Day 20183 in Equestria
- >You never found a way back home.
- >Not that it truly mattered, after all.
- >You found a home in the many friends you made here.
- >And when you say friends, you meant it.
- >Not just the buddy who you pass by every so often.
- >No, in the mares of Ponyville, you found friendships and companions that would last a lifetime.
- >Unfortunately, your lifetime was much longer than theirs.
- >At least the years have been kind to you, as have the ponies that have come and gone.
- >Sitting on a hill facing the sunset, you let out a deep sigh.
- >This is where you sat with them when you had your outings.
- >Letting the nostalgia take over, you're almost oblivious to the arrival of your last true friend, landing behind you.
- >The only one who's lifetime will last longer than yours.
- "Hello, Princess Twilight."
- >She stifles a small laugh.
- >"Anon, you know you don't have to call me that."
- >The fully grown mare steps to your side, gazing at the sunset.
- >"Celestia truly outdid herself tonight, didn't she?"
- "That she did."
- >You say weakly, gazing at the amber horizon.
- >A short pause befalls you two.
- >Visits from the most recent Princess were few and far between, after all.
- >"Why are you here, Anon?"
- >Her question was quite upfront.
- "I could ask you the same."
- >"Anon."
- "Wanted to be somewhere familiar tonight."
- >She looks down at you, raising an eyebrow.
- >"Wasn't your home familiar enough?"
- >Her inquisitive nature didn't cease with her acsension.
- "Not like that, Twi..."
- >You barely get to finish your sentence before a heavy cough escapes your lungs, jerkng your hand up to cover it.
- >Twilight's wing immediately flares up, bringing itself around your shoulders.
- >"Want me to take you home, Anon?"
- "Not tonight..."
- >"..."
- >Her silence was deafening, the sun continuing it's slow descent.
- >As she came to terms with your words, she folded her wing back, laying comfortably on the ground next to you.
- >You go to speak, but a cough decides to take precedence once more.
- >Twilight winces at the noise, barely able to turn her head your way.
- >Regaining composure, you sigh lightly.
- "You're a princess. You know what happens when...?"
- >Looking to her as you half-ask the ever implied question, she simply turns away.
- >You give a small grin, turning back to the sunset.
- "I suppose I'll find out soon enough."
- >Inch by inch, the sun makes it's way south across the sky.
- >Without saying a word, the mare next to you clenches her eyes, her horn faintly glowing.
- >As it does, the horizon transforms into a dazzling spectacle.
- >When the sun touches the horizon, the empty sky it leaves behind begins to dot itself with majestic stars.
- >The amber glow of the sun combines with the ever-approaching night, creating the most beautiful shade of lavender.
- "Heh...this is your time to shine, eh?"
- >"If Celestia's going to out-do herself just for you, then so will I."
- >You can't help but grin at her as she speaks those words.
- "Leave it to Celestia to know something before I do."
- >Twilight opens her eyes, her work complete.
- >The blanket of stars that carpets the night meet the radiant sun's departure at the perfect apex.
- "It's beautiful Twi-"
- >You're not allowed to finish your own though before the coughs take over again, far more violent than the last.
- >Falling back to the soft grass, you clench your chest as you spasm.
- >Instantly reacting, the purple mare turns to your side, placing her hoof on your chest.
- >"Anon, I know a spell, I could..."
- >Before her horn sparks a vibrant lavender, you bring a hand to her comforting hoof.
- "No."
- >With that word, Twilight ceases her magic, replacing it with the welling tears that begin to form.
- >"But...but they would have wanted..."
- >You smile reassuringly, feeling those coughs having taken something large out of you.
- "They wanted me to live a full life. And I have."
- >Unable to counter your statements, Twilight feigns herself to softly sobbing.
- >"But...you're all that's left of us, Anon..."
- >You grip her hoof tighter.
- "Come on, Twi...let an old man go without regrets, eh?"
- >You can't help but chuckle at your twisted humor.
- >With a sniffle, she lets out a laugh.
- >You two share this light moment...before it's halted by another fit of coughing.
- >Lifting your head, you see the sun continuing to set.
- >"Are you sure, Anon?"
- >Her tears drip down, staining your shirt.
- >Looking up at her, you nod slowly.
- "I'm ready to see them again."
- >Turning back to the sunset, the image of Equestria's extravagant twilight sky is burned into your mind.
- >Leaning back, you lay your free hand on your chest, gripping her hoof with the last bits of strength you have.
- >And finally...you let go.
- >"..."
- >"..."
- >"..."
- >"..."
- >"...welcome, welcome, welcome!"
