  7. I agree with Alibaba and had flagged that too. I didn't see the mention
  8. of trapwire in the story on Cisco. Maybe I missed it. Yes, keep me
  9. posted on any questions and I'll see what my contact can dig up.

  13. This is also a pretty good CSM topic. some college kids running a scam
  14. through Alibaba (chinese ebay), took in a good amount of money.
  15.
  16. If we had some good 'redism' related incidents, maybe I could write on
  17. that, but we'd need some very concise points to make.
  18.
  19. Let me know what you guys think of this and the surveillance camera
  20. topic.
  21.
  22. Jen, I assume that Trapwire is a competitor to Cisco, but I'm not sure.
  23. I don't know if trapwire makes the actual cameras or just does the
  24. analysis. I won't have real questions till morning.

  35.
  36. AFP - Police have arrested 36 people in southeast China following an
  37. investigation into fraud on e-commerce site Alibaba.com and other
  38. websites that duped buyers out of more than $6 million.
  39.
  40.
  41.
  42. Alizila.com, Alibaba's corporate news website, reported earlier this
  43. week the suspects were detained in Fujian province's Putian city in
  44. April. John Spelich, the firm's spokesman, confirmed the report to AFP
  45. on Saturday.
  46.
  47.
  48.
  49. The people arrested allegedly operated a criminal gang that used fake
  50. IDs to open more than 100 "Gold Supplier" accounts on Alibaba.com.
  51. This designation is given to those certified as highly trusted
  52. suppliers by the firm.
  53.
  54.
  55.
  56. This allowed the suspects to pose as legitimate companies selling to
  57. overseas businesses that source goods through Alibaba.com. Police said
  58. the alleged scammers also used other international trading websites.
  59.
  60.
  61.
  62. Alibaba.com, based in the eastern city of Hangzhou, has grown into one
  63. of China's largest Internet companies by matching mainland
  64. manufacturers and wholesalers with buyers around the world.
  65.
  66.
  67.
  68. But its reputation took a hit in February when the firm announced the
  69. resignation of chief executive David Wei and head of operations Elvis
  70. Lee after fraud was uncovered on the site.
  71.
  72.
  73.
  74. Wei and Lee were not involved in the scams but resigned because they
  75. took responsibility for "systemic breakdowns" that allowed the fraud
  76. to happen, Alibaba said at the time.
  77.
  78.
  79.
  80. But according to the Alizila report, the fraud was "sometimes abetted
  81. by Alibaba.com employees." But Spelich said Saturday none of the 36
  82. arrested worked at the company.
  83.
  84.
  85.
  86. He added the number of fraud complaints received by the website in
  87. June was down 70 percent from February after Alibaba toughened
  88. procedures and other security measures.
  89.
  90.
  91.
  92. The report said Alibaba had refunded $1.9 million to those who lost
  93. their money to the alleged scammers.
