  1.
  2. I awaken to the soft blow of sand on my face
  3.
  4. The sun light enters my eyes as I get up
  5.
  6. I exit my sleeping bag, and remove my clothing from the backpack
  7.
  8. I put my survival gear on, and strap on my gas mask
  9.
  10. "Well, back on the trail"
  11.
  12. I walk down the desert road for what seems to be hours, no Ponyville in sight
  13.
  14. Another day of endless sand
  15.
  16. The wind begins to pick up
  17.
  18. It's time
  19.
  20. I tighten the gas mask, and stand perfectly still
  21.
  22. The cloud is coming, closer and closer
  23.
  24. The sound of speeding ponies in the distance
  25.
  26. The cloud soon passes over me
  27.
  28. The dried out bodies of ponies run past me
  29.
  30. If I move, I'll be taken away like the horses
  31.
  32. Eventually, the damned ponies pass
  33.
  34. Back on the trail
  35.
  36.
  37. Eventually I need to rest, much to my dismay
  38.
  39. A minute resting is a minute wasted
  40.
  41. I sit in the sand, and unscrew the cap of a water bottle
  42.
  43. "I feel bad for the ponies, they can't open a water bottle with hoofs"
  44.
  45. I laugh at my own joke, it helps keep my sanity
  46.
  47. I remove my mask, and realize how dry my mouth really is
  48.
  49. I chug the water down
  50.
  51. Need to spit it out
  52.
  53. I pull out my map
  54.
  55. Almost out of the Everfree forest
  56.
  57. There aren't trees anymore
  58.
  59. I get up, and continue
  60.
  61.
  62. I fall to my knees when I see it
  63.
  64. The buildings of Ponyville are in the distance
  65.
  66. I run towards my destination in joy
  67.
  68. It's almost over
  69.
  70. The wind picks up
  71.
  72. The cloud of the damned is speeding towards me
  73.
  74. I stop in my tracks, turn towards the cloud, and stand still
  75.
  76. The winds are strong, the ponies look at me as they run past
  77.
  78. They want me to fall, to be taken away with them
  79.
  80. I won't give them the pleasure
  81.
  82. The cloud passes
  83.
  84. I continue
  85.
  86.
  87. I'm surrounded by abandon houses, stores, and buildings
  88.
  89. This place was once so full of life
  90.
  91. Not anymore
  92.
  93. I find a few barrels, crates, and boxes, and stack them on top of each other like a makeshift staircase
  94.
  95. I climb them, and jump onto a nearby building
  96.
  97. I remove the large flair from my backpack
  98.
  99. I stab it into the roof
  100.
  101. I set it off
  102.
  103. Red smoke spurts from it, floating up into the sky
  104.
  105. Now I wait
  106.
  107.
  108. It's now nightfall
  109.
  110. No pony has been sighted
  111.
  112. I fall asleep
  113.
  114. I should have gone inside, where the cloud had less of a chance to capture me
  115.
  116. But I was tired, wasn't thinking straight
  117.
  118. I dream of a farm
  119.
  120. A farm full of apples
  121.
  122. The apples soon dry out, and turn into sand
  123.
  124. The ponies there, once kicking trees, collecting apples, become statues made of dust
  125.
  126. The cloud comes
  127.
  128. It takes them away
  129.
  130. I wake up in the middle of the night, sweating
  131.
  132. The flair has gone out
  133.
  134. No one has come
  135.
  136.
  137. The sun is up
  138.
  139. I have already packed my supplies
  140.
  141. I walk through town, looking for another potential spot for survivors
  142.
  143. Suddenly, a stinging pain runs up my spine
  144.
  145. I feel my back, and pull out something
  146.
  147. A dart
  148.
  149. "Oh no..."
  150.
  151. I fall into the sand
  152.
  153. The next thing I know, I'm in a dimly lit, crumbling room
  154.
  155. The shelf is lined with packages
  156.
  157. It's incredibly difficult to breath down here
  158.
  159. I can't find my gas mask
  160.
  161.
  162. BOO
  163.
  164.
  165. I fall to the ground, and turn towards the voice
  166.
  167. A pink pony is wearing my gas mask
  168.
  169. She giggles, removes the mask with her hoof, and throws it to me
  170.
  171. "Sorry about shooting you, but I thought you might-"
  172.
  173. I pull a smoke grenade from my backpack
  174.
  175. "What are you doing, silly?"
  176.
  177. I put on the gas mask
  178.
  179. I throw the smoke grenade
  180.
  181. The smoke emits from the grenade
  182.
  183. The pink pony soon falls over, and turns pale
  184.
  185. She is drying out
  186.
  187. In a matter of minutes, she is dead
  188.
  189. I put a few supplies in my backpack, and leave
  190.
  191. One pony down, 5 to go
  192.
  193.
  194. I head outside, and open a package I have taken
  195.
  196. Cupcakes
  197.
  198. "I haven't had these in so long"
  199.
  200. Eat it slowly, savoring the flavor
  201.
  202. I stop eating
  203.
  204. A strange sight is in front of me
  205.
  206. A yellow pony riding a bear
  207.
  208. "Oh, hi, I didn't know, um...hi"
  209.
  210. I Look at the pony, then back at the bear
  211.
  212. "Um...so...what are you doing here? I mean-"
  213.
  214. I stop her
  215.
  216. "I'm looking for survivors. I'm trying to save as many ponies as I can. Do you know where I can look?"
  217.
  218. “Well, Applejack said I shouldn't bring anyone to the farm without telling her, but, um, well, um, you can come if you want"
  219.
  220. She waits for me to get up, and I jump onto the bear's back with her
  221.
  222. She's going to lead me right to another. Kill two ponies with one stone
  223.
  224.
  225. I'm taken to a large farm
  226. The trees are all dead
  227. The barn is falling apart
  228. It reminds me of my dream
  229. I hop off the bear, and lead into the barn
  230. I'm greeted by two hooves to the chest
  231. I fall over, my vision blurs
  232. "What did I tell you, Fluttershy, you can't bring anyone here, especially humans!"
  233. "I'm sorry Applejack, it's just-"
  234. "Just what? Do you want to starve to death? We have enough food for us, and us only!"
  235. The yellow pegasus squeaks, and remains quite
  236. The orange pony approaches me
  237. "Ok pal, what are you doing here?"
  238. I don't respond
  239. "Well?"
  240. I don't respond
  241. She kicks me again, breaking my gas mask
  242. I really liked that gas mask
  243. I punch her
  244. I shouldn't have done that
  245.
  246. "Applejack" chases me around the barn
  247. My body only let me run, I can’t reach for a grenade
  248. The pony is faster then I am, and I’m kicked straight into a wall
  249. Blood streams down my face
  250. "Alright, now. I'm gonna give you one chance to get off of my land, or so help me, I'll, I'll..."
  251. The wind is picking up
  252. The pony doesn't notice
  253. "Alright, you asked for it!"
  254. I hold me mouth and nose close, staying completely still
  255. She speeds towards me
  256. The cloud bursts into the barn
  257. I close my eyes
  258. Screams, all I hear are screams, and eventually those screams become silent
  259. I open my eyes
  260. She's gone, but "Fluttershy" is still here
  261. She cowers in the corner, hacking and wheezing
  262. I have the urge to cough too
  263. I throw a smoke grenade at Fluttershy, then leave
  264. While outside, I fall to my knees, and vomit
  265.
  266. I continue looking for the other three
  267. Still hacking and coughing
  268. I'm lucky I didn't suffocate in the cloud
  269. I pull out a water battle, and unscrew the cap
  270. Just like wasting time, I hate wasting water, but I need to sooth my throat
  271. Something drops on my head
  272. Another drop lands on my hand
  273.  I look closely at my hand, observing the wet residue
  274. "It can't be"
  275. Rain is falling
  276. Rain hasn't fallen in a long time
  277. It isn't much, but it's something
  278. I look up
  279. One single cloud is above me
  280. I hear a faint noise
  281. "I did it! I did it!"
  282. I back away and look up
  283. Something blue is jumping up and down on the cloud
  284. I put the water bottle down, and pull out a smoke grenade
  285.
  286. My finger is around the pin
  287. I need to be careful
  288. Without my gas mask, I could breath too much of this smoke
  289. Line up the target with the grenade
  290. Cock arm back
  291. Throw
  292. In an instant, the blue pegasus turns around, sees my grenade, flies towards it, and hits it away
  293. She has balls
  294. The grenade bashes into my chest
  295. I Fall over
  296. Smoke is emitting from grenade
  297. I can't breath
  298. Looking down at my arms, I see them becoming pale
  299. I crawl away from the smoke, unable to get up, and grab the water bottle
  300. Water is spilling out as I lift it towards my mouth
  301. I chug it down as fast as I can
  302. The pain is unbearable
  303. I drink it all
  304. I can breath, but only slightly
  305. Still feel like I'm going to die
  306. The pegasus is flying straight towards me
  307. She's seething with rage
  308. She flies right through the smoke
  309. She's blinded, and slams into a nearby building
  310. She's out cold
  311. I reach for my backpack, and empty it
  312. I pull all of the water bottles towards me, and chug each one down
  313. After this, I now know what it's like to suffer like my victims
  314.
  315. Eventually all the water is gone
  316. Still feel terrible
  317. I pull myself up from the ground, stumbling from side to side
  318. I grab another grenade from the pile of equipment
  319. Only two more grenades after this
  320. Slowly, I walk over to the pegasus
  321. She's still unconscious
  322.  I throw the grenade, and stumble away
  323. She'll die in her sleep, it's better this way
  324. I go to the pile, and begin to pack my backpack
  325. "Hopefully I won't need a drink for a while"
  326.
  327. Carousel Boutique
  328. I hope the next pony is in here
  329. Traveling to this place was a nightmare
  330. The effects of the smoke are still in effect
  331. My skin has gained some color back, but still remains quite pale
  332. "Hey, maybe I can pass for one of the damned"
  333. I laugh
  334. I enter the store
  335. It's dark
  336. Clothing scattered around on the ground
  337. Slight murmurings in the distance
  338. I follow the noise
  339. "Now darling, this just looks fabulous on you"
  340. I crouch down, looking into another room
  341. The white unicorn is surrounded by mannequins
  342. She doesn't notice me
  343. "Now stay still, I need to get these measurements right."
  344. She's clearly gone insane
  345. I think to myself, "maybe if she just laughed at her own jokes, she'd be as sane as I am"
  346. I chuckle a little
  347. The unicorn freezes, and a look of shock appears on her face
  348. She probably hasn't heard anyone's voice in years
  349. Might as well put her out of her misery
  350.
  351. I go into the room
  352. The unicorn doesn't say a word
  353. I pull out a grenade
  354. "Wait!"
  355. I don't know why I waited
  356. "You can't go around like that. I mean your outfit's good, if you're going for a dirty survivalist, but it's missing something."
  357. She runs towards a drawer
  358. She opens it, and pulls out a gas mask
  359. She uses magic to bring it towards me
  360. "It's the best I can give you. I wish I could help more, but my other customers need me."
  361. I put the gas mask on
  362. "Thanks"
  363. I throw the grenade
  364. She's dead minutes later
  365. One more left
  366.
  367. Outside
  368. The sun is setting
  369. "I should just get to the library and get this over with"
  370. Walking normally now
  371. I’m Feeling much better, physically and psychologically
  372. Gas masks have become a bit like a security blanket for me
  373. The wind is picking up
  374. I’m nervous, but ready
  375. I stand still
  376. The cloud is coming
  377. It just gets faster and fast
  378. I tighten the gas mask
  379. The cloud rushes over me
  380. The stampede is just as fast as the wind
  381. I struggle to keep balance
  382. They're angry
  383. It's angry
  384. I begin to slightly shake, but remain in place
  385. I see something familiar
  386. It's Applejack
  387. She's dried out, dark veins covering her body
  388. I swear she is looking at me
  389. If only she let me kill her
  390. The cloud disappears
  391. I need to keep moving
  392.
  393. Running
  394. The sun is down
  395. The cloud appears more often then ever before
  396. The time between each encounter is getting shorter and shorter
  397. The winds are getting stronger too
  398. I run whenever I have the chance
  399. It may just be the fear getting to me, but I think I feel sick whenever it rushes over me
  400. Just a little while before I make it
  401. My arms suddenly snap backwards
  402. I scream
  403. I'm thrown to the ground
  404. No one is near me
  405. This is the work of magic
  406. She has found me
  407. I float up, and slammed into the ground
  408. I black out
  409.
  410.
  411.
  412. I wake up
  413. My arms and legs are chained to an examination table
  414. The walls are lined with pages from books, news articles, pictures of fog, icy mists, and sand storms, with pins and string connecting one thing to another
  415. In the center of it all is a large map of the world, with red X's over most of the land masses
  416. "Well, it looks like you're awake! The examination is going to be so much more beneficial with you conscious"
  417. My final target approaches me, holding a scalpel in mid air with her magic
  418. But first, I would like to ask you some questions
  419. I don't respond
  420. "Let's start with I basic one. What drove you to kill my friends?"
  421. I don't respond
  422. "Of all the ways you could have killed them, why did you use smoke grenades? My research tells my that dying from those things is a horrible experience"
  423. I don't respond
  424. "Maybe you just wanted them to suffer"
  425. I respond
  426. "I didn't want to do this"
  427. "Then why did you?"
  428. I don't respond
  429.
  430. The unicorn seems upset
  431. "No matter. If you don't wish to cooperate, that's your choice. Let's just get on with the examination"
  432. I'm terrified, but I refuse to show it.
  433. "Now as you know, when ponies breath in too much of the cloud, they turn into dried out monsters, and run away with the other mindless beasts. However, it's not the same with other creatures, including you. Other creatures show signs of becoming like the ‘infected,’ but eventually die."
  434. "Your point?"
  435. "I want to figure out why. I want to open you up and see what makes you tick"
  436. I'm enraged
  437. "Go to hell"
  438. "I'm already there"
  439. She plunges the scalpel into my chest
  440. I let out a cry in agony
  441. Blood begins to seep out of my wound
  442. But something's wrong
  443. My blood is black
  444. The unicorn is fascinated
  445. "Very interesting"
  446.
  447. The unicorn takes out a small test tube, and collects the leaking blood
  448. "I'll save this for later, just so I have something in case you...expire."
  449. I look at her with disgust
  450. I wish I could just get off of this table and hurt her
  451. But then an idea pops into my head
  452. I can't hurt her physically, but what about emotionally?
  453. "How is the dragon?"
  454. She stops
  455. "What?"
  456. "How is your dragon?"
  457. She starts to get irritated
  458. Do you mean Spike?"
  459. "Yes, your little assistant, how is he?"
  460. She's quiet
  461. "Well come on. You've just stabbed me, I think the least you can do is tell me about Spike"
  462. She now seems a little sad
  463. "Spike...got really sick. I treated him the best I could but..."
  464. "He's dead? Did you experiment on him before he 'expired'?"
  465. "I would never do that!"
  466. She is yelling now
  467. "How dare you even say that!"
  468. "You know, I've been through the cloud many times. Your little reports may say what it's like to go through the cloud, but you don't get the true picture without experiencing it for yourself. You can't breath, your lungs burn, you only want the pain to end. It's a living nightmare."
  469. I see tears in her eyes.
  470. "And you tried keeping Spike alive? Letting him live through that? At least I kill my victims. You keep them alive to suffer."
  471. "Shut up!"
  472. She's crying now
  473. "Who's the real monster here?"
  474. The unicorn bashes the side of my face with her hoof.
  475.
  476. I can taste blood in my mouth
  477. "I'm no monster! I'm trying to stop the cloud! I've been trying to stop it for years! I'm nothing like you! You're a murderer!"
  478. She's suddenly silent
  479. "And pretty soon...I'm gonna be a murderer too."
  480. She moves the scalpel towards my heart
  481. She looks up at me
  482. "Any last words?"
  483. I spit in her eye
  484. She screams, and covers her face
  485. She slams her hooves into my chest, revealing a now bloodshot eye
  486. "I'll kill you!"
  487. I can see black veins in the corner of her eye
  488. Her body spasms, and she falls to the ground, holding her eye in pain
  489. I didn't expect this
  490. Her horn glows, and she rips me off of the table
  491. I'm now floating in the air
  492. "It burns!"
  493. She slams me onto the table
  494. My legs then twist into unnatural angles, breaking them
  495. She flings me across the room, and I slam into the wall
  496. My entire body is in pain
  497. I see my backpack next to me
  498. One chance
  499. I use what little strength I have to pull out the last smoke grenade
  500. I throw it at Twilight
  501.
  502. I drag myself towards the door
  503. I don't expect to live through this, but I'm not dying down here
  504. The smoke is shooting out of the grenade
  505. I can taste it going down my throat
  506. Just as I'm about to leave the room, I'm tugged away from the door
  507. Twilight, chocking on smoke, is able to scream
  508. "I won't let you leave! You die now!"
  509. I dig my nails into the ground, trying to hold back
  510. I see the scalpel on the ground
  511. I quickly grab it, and am pulled farther back
  512. I turn around.
  513. Twilight is right behind me, the smoke is all around us
  514. I shove the scalpel in her eye
  515. She’s dead
  516.
  517. After that, everything becomes hazy
  518. It's as if I'm living through a memory, or a dream
  519. One minute, I'm crawling away from Twilight's corpse
  520. The next, I'm crawling through the library
  521. Then, I'm outside
  522. I'm not in pain anymore
  523. I wonder if this is what death feels like
  524. I can feel the wind on my face
  525. The cloud is coming
  526. I'm not wearing my gas mask
  527. I'm too weak to cover my mouth
  528. I think I'm going to die
  529. The cloud envelopes me
  530. There are no damned horses
  531. I don't feel the cloud seeping down my throat
  532. I hear something in the back of my mind
  533. "My champion"
  534.
  535. I can't talk
  536. I can only rest, and listen
  537. "You have proven your worth to me, child of man"
  538. I lift my hand in the air, as if I am reaching for the voice
  539. I don't understand my own actions
  540. "Rest now, my champion. You are willing of my blessing."
  541. I force myself to sputter out a faint attempt at words
  542. "You shall become my vessel, the bringer of rebirth"
  543. I look towards the sky, but it's as if I can see my own body changing, filling with something
  544. "But I...you...can't"
  545. "You underestimate my power. I've had a plan, my champion, and you will become the greatest part of it."
  546. Deep down, I feel like I know what is happening
  547. "Now wake up, child of man. Wake up and return"
  548. I find myself in a desert.
