  1. *Please note that I haven't seen the first(second) episode in forever, so I'm bullshitting this.*
  2.
  3.
  4. "And Rainbow Dash, who stayed true to her friends, even when it meant turning away from her dream, represents the spirit of Loyalty.
  5. >The shards of the fifth shattered orb float up around the cyan pegasus.
  6. >All four of the others who came with you are surrounded by their elements as well, and you turn to Nightmare Moon.
  7. >"Your spell didn't work, there are only five elements."
  8. "But it did work; you see, the spark it created was inside me. It made me realize that these five girls are my friends."
  9. >"So?" Nightmare sneers.
  10. "An evil creature like you could never realize this, but their friendship made me realize the sixth element; Magic!"
  11. >Striking a pose, you wait for the sixth element to appear.
  12. >Seconds tick by, but there is no flash of light, no surge of power, no nothing.
  13. >Fear fills, where only moments ago confidence was, and you see Nightmare smile slowly.
  14. >"You overestimate yourself, worm, and yet you have proven useful."
  15. >Choking gasps come from behind you, and you spin to see dark magic tightening around your newfound friends.
  16. >"Your little stunt led me to five of the true element bearers, and for this, I'll spare your life."
  17. >The same shadow magic wraps around you, hurling you through a gap in the wall.
  18. >Dirt and mud slide underhoof as you try and get upright, before there's a flash.
  19. >Almost unwillingly, you find yourself drawn to the hole you were thrown through.
  20. >Your eyes rise to the level of the hole and your stomach lurches.
  21. >Vivid red blood coats every surface, no pieces larger than your horn are left, but there is enough to identify each and every one of them.
  22. "R...Rarity... Applejack... Fluttershy... Dash... Pinkie..."
  23. >Nightmare, covered in blood just like everything else, gloats from her stand, and her gaze strays towards you.
  24. >Backing away from the hole, the fear inside you takes hold and you turn and run.
  25. >The night skies above you darken as clouds roll in.
  26. >Raindrops start to fall, and the ground turns to mud, the feeling of it under your hooves is nowhere near as dirty as the feeling filling your mind.
  27. "They're... They all died... because of me... because I was wrong."
  28. >A patch of mud causes you to slip, sending you sprawling down into it.
  29. >Tears mix with the mud covering your features, everything blurring into a mix of green and brown.
  30. "Why... I did everything... Celestia please, help..."
  31. >The answer you seek does not come, only rain and thunder.
  32. "H... help me..."
  33. >Rain pounding down around you, you lie there in the mud, body unwilling to move, not even as the sounds of monsters approach.
  34. >Eyes closed, you drift away, lost in the shock of everything.
  35.
  36. ~~~
  37.
  38. >"Purple unicorn, are you well? You have been asleep for quite a spell."
  39. >A soft voice calls to you through the veil of sleep, and you stir, mind slowly rising into wakefulness.
  40. >"Ah, so you are awake, my friend. I was fearing this sleep would be your end."
  41. >Shaking the sleep away, you open your eyes and see a striped face looking back at you.
  42. "Who... Where?"
  43. >"I am Zecora, and this is my home. It's in a place few dare to roam."
  44. >A cup of water is brought to your lips, and you eagerly drink, the cool liquid washing down your dry throat.
  45. "Thank you," you say taking the cup from her.
  46. >She leaves the room, allowing you an opportunity to look around.
  47. >The walls are wooden, much like the library back in Ponyville, but these walls are adorned with masks and shelves with plants and jars covering them, rather than bookshelves.
  48. "Ponyville... My friends..."
  49. >Everything starts to blur again as your eyes water up and your chest tightens.
  50. >Lowering your head, you find yourself shaking softly.
  51. "I'm sorry... I'm sorry... I'm sorry..."
  52. >Zecora's voice cuts through your repetitious apology, saying, "Something is causing you grief, I see. Would it help of you were to share it with me?"
  53. "It's my fault... They're dead, because of me..."
  54. >"Of who, and what, do you speak. Into your mind, I cannot peek."
  55. "Applejack... Rarity... Rainbow Dash... Pinkie... Fluttershy... Because I wasn't the right pony, they were all killed..."
  56. >A hoof gently rubs your back, and Zecora sits next to you.
  57. >"While these ponies, I may not know, The pain of loss, it will always show."
  58. >"And while it might hurt to say, it helps to get those feelings away."
  59. >Sniffling, you nod and sit up.
  60. "I was sent here by *sniffle* Celestia, to oversee the preparations of the Summer Sun Celebration."
  61. "While I was checking everything, I met them, *sniff* Rainbow Dash dealt with the weather, Rarity with the decorations..."
  62. >Just saying their names, the images of their death come flooding back, but Zecora's kind attentions help suppress the tears.
  63. "A... Applejack was preparing the food and Fluttershy was handling music."
  64. "Pinkie, she... she prepared a welcoming party for me, but I didn't go, I cared more about finding a way to stop Nightmare Moon's return than some silly party..."
  65. "I couldn't find anything though, and she did return, but I had found a way to stop her."
  66. >"How did you plan to stop her might? She must still be here, for it is still night."
  67. "The Elements of Harmony. They were the same weapon Celestia used to banish her in the first place, but something went wrong."
  68. "On the way to their resting place, the old princesses castle out in the Everfree, A bunch of things happened that made me realize that they were the embodiments of the Elements."
  69. "Applejack was Honesty, Fluttershy was Kindness, Rarity was Generosity, Pinkie was Laughter and Rainbow was Loyalty."
  70. "We found the place, and I found the elements, or at least the five that existed."
  71. "A spark was supposed to... to make the sixth, Magic, appear with me and... and... everything seemed to be in place for it to appear, but it didn't."
  72. >Zecora lifts another glass, this one filled with a smooth green liquid.
  73. >"It will help your nerves if you drink this, though I must warn you, it tastes like..."
  74. "You don't need to finish that rhyme. I'll... be fine without it."
  75. "Everything pointed to me being the Element of Magic; Celestia sending me here, meeting all of them, everything that happened, but..."
  76. >Fighting back tears, you take the drink from Zecora and grimace as you take a sip.
  77. "... But I was wrong. It didn't appear, but because the others appeared for them, Nightmare Moon killed them, and let me live."
  78. "She... she let me live, knowing I would have to live with it, knowing they died because of me..."
  79. >Even with the drink's aide, you feel your chest tightening as if Nightmare's magic was slowly crushing the life from you.
  80. >"Know this, my new unicorn friend; I'm sure they don't blame you, even in the end."
  81. >With these words, you feel some of the pressure lessen, and you manage a weak smile.
  82. "Th... thank you, Zecora. My name's Twilight, so you know, Twilight Sparkle."
  83. >"Well, Miss Sparkle, I am glad I picked up your mood. Now wait here while I prepare us food."
  84. >Your stomach growls in agreement, weakness setting in.
  85. >"You would do well to rest, Twilight. You haven't eaten for several nights"
  86. "I can tell, now. Thank you for doing all this for me."
  87. >Simply nodding, she pushes you down into a lying position before exiting the room.
  88. >Resting there, your eyelids get heavy until a strong, delicious smell wafts into the room.
  89. >Moments later, Zecora returns with a bowl of thick stew, steam still rising off its surface.
  90. "That smells delicious Zecora," you say, nose twitching and mouth watering in anticipation.
  91. >"I learned to be a good cook, since it's just me. Have a taste and you will see."
  92. >Focusing, your magic sputters and sparks before a weak aura forms around a spoon, slowly raising it from the bowl.
  93. >With intense effort, you bring it to your mouth, and take a sip.
  94. >The warmth spreads into you, and with it, some strength.
  95. "How long was I asleep?"
  96. >"Three full days and nights you slept. Lucky for you, your body I kept."
  97. "I... I almost wish you didn't. That way, I could have died with them."
  98. >Zecora helps another spoonfull to reach your mouth, your magic petering out.
  99. >"To think like that, it isn't good. You would have been eaten by wolves of wood."
  100. >Slowly, you eat the contents of the bowl, before lying down again.
  101. >"For the time, you have to rest. Belive me for now, for I know best."
  102. >Nodding, the tiredness from before returns, and you let yourself drift off this time.
  103.
  104. ~~~~~
  105.
  106. >With a small saddlebag of provisions on your back, you turn back to the mare who has helped you survive the last week.
  107. >"Goodbye Twilight Sparkle, and be sure to stay well. I hope you will return some time for a spell."
  108. "I will. Take care, Zecora."
  109. >Turning to the dark road, you start on the long path to Ponyville, your way lit only by a faint glow from your horn.
  110. >After losing your new friends and failing your teacher, your magic has dropped to a level similar to that of a foal, further pounding it home, the fact you aren't the Element of Magic.
  111. >Strong magic without friendship is impossible.
  112. >The path to town is clear and straight, and despite it being night, you have no troubles finding your way to the edge of the woods.
  113. >Faint lights flicker in distant windows, and your heart starts to sink, fearing what you may encounter.
  114. >Friends, family, lovers of those you unknowingly lead to their death.
  115. >Head hanging low, you slink into town, hoping, praying to avoid being seen.
  116. >Either by some miracle or pure, dumb luck, you make it to the library undetected.
  117. >Through a window, you can see a single candle burning, nothing else.
  118. >Touching the door, it opens without resistance, quietly swinging open.
  119. "H... hello? is anyp0ny in here?"
