  1. Wrex
  2.
  3. Role:
  4.
  5. Wrex (provided he survived ME1) is the sole ruler of Tuchanka. Maintaining a strict but disciplined watch over the krogan, Wrex can unite the clans gathering in the “Hollows”, a ritual and political meeting spot of Tuchanka. He provides Shepard with objectives, which unlock missions and side quests on Tuchanka and the surrounding krogan DMZ. If the genophage is cured, Wrex directs the krogan to Palaven, where they assist in liberating the turian military being pummeled by Reaper forces.
  6.
  7. Recruitment:
  8.
  9. After the first war summit, Shepard can visit the planet Tuchanka at the request of Urdnot Bakara, the leader of the female clans of Urdnot territory. In the months since the suicide mission, Shepard learns that Wrex has successfully managed to call a meeting of the oldest, wisest, and strongest krogan to the Hollows, for a debate on whether the krogan should join the war effort. With the situation growing ever more dire on Palaven, Shepard takes the kodiak shuttle down to Tuchanka to make contact with Wrex.
  10.
  11. Wrex is found sitting on his throne in the middle of Urdnot Camp. While Wrex rallied several hundred thousand krogan to his cause, most of the planet remains “undecided” in what route the krogan people should take. The old warrior meets Shepard (his greeting varies on whether Shepard is friendly with Wrex or not), and tells Shepard that the battle masters are willing to meet at the Hollows.
  12.
  13. If Wrex's loyalty mission was completed in ME1, then he is wearing his unique family armor, which has been fixed and upgraded. The armor gives his people pride, and has helped him inspire respect in a few clans able to recognize the lineage behind the plating.
  14.
  15. Wrex hopes that Shepard can help him maintain peace and civility during the meeting. He tells Shepard to either look around Urdnot camp (now greatly upgraded, with more technology, order, and cleanliness), or go to the truck station where they can leave for the meeting together.
  16.
  17. If Mordin was recruited at this point, he will come down the the planet, and be greeted gruffly by Wrex and his scientists. They will inquire into the genophage cure, which Mordin has brought with him to the planet.
  18.
  19. [Note: Urdnot camp is a hub world, so Shepard can buy weapons, talk with krogan ambassadors to persuade them to join Wrex, inspire young krogan warriors, etc. Shepard can even visit the varren pits, and check up on Urz, the varren Shepard befriended in ME2.
  20. If Shepard completed Grunt's loyalty mission in ME2, they are both considered legends amongst the general population, and Shepard is respected and feared amongst the krogan.
  21. If Grunt died in ME2, there is a statue of him in the center of Urdnot camp. Shepard can go to the statue, and pay his respects to the late krogan.]
  22.
  23. When Shepard goes to the truck station in Urdnot camp, he can activate the mission “Meeting at the Hollows”.
  24.
  25. Missions:
  26.
  27. Wrex is an available temporary squad-mate for all missions on Tuchanka. After the genophage is cured, Wrex can become available for other side quests in the krogan DMZ. The main missions on Tuchanka are “Meeting at the Hollows”, “Defend Urdnot Camp”, and “The Cure”.
  28.
  29. During “Meeting at the Hollows”, Shepard attempts to explain the situation on Palaven to the krogan battle masters. Wrex insults, threatens, and bribes the krogan as they laugh and jeer at the turians' problems. When Shepard asks the surrounding crowd what they want in return for aiding the war effort, the battle masters reply: a cure for the genophage.
  30.
  31. If the cure was not taken from STG Base on Sur'kesh, Wrex becomes stuck in a political argument with several clan members. He tells Shepard to go to Sur'kesh, and, make contact with his STG spy, and retrieve the genophage cure – before the krogan bickering becomes bloodshed. Shepard must complete the mission “STG Base”.
  32.
  33. If Mordin/Wiks is available, he enters (much to the anger and disgust of many of the krogan) and presents them with the vial which contains the cure. The krogan battle masters become angry, nearly to the brink of violence. They believe that Wrex will use the genophage cure to over populate Urdnot, and wipe out the other clans – but Wrex argues that this is not the case. The shouts and threats override Wrex's voice however – and renegade/paragon prompts pop up on screen:
  34.
  35.  – If Shepard chooses the renegade prompt, he snatches the cure off of the pedestal where it sits, holds it up, and mocks and insults the krogan. Shepard says that the genophage cure -- like the genophage – like the krogan uplift – is out of krogan hands. Despite this, Shepard says, the future for their entire race is now in krogan hands. Shepard makes a threatening motion as if to drop the cure, which causes several roars of alarm and fear. Shepard threatens the battle masters by saying that he could break the cure right there, and their future would once again be out of their hands – and concludes his speech by using the worst insult he can think: Shepard claims that none of the battle masters are worth killing if they can't seize their future.
  36.
  37. If Shepard choose the paragon prompt, he draws his gun, and shoots it off loudly into the air. The Hollows ring with the gunshots, and Wrex is able to continue his speech to the krogan people -- saying that Urdnot will share the cure under two conditions; that they find a viable method of distribution, and that the clans no longer quarrel “like children” and fight the real enemy, the Reapers.
  38.
  39. The battle masters are impressed Shepard's/Wrex's speech, and most reside to work together. However, a few of the most conservative clan leaders don't believe in Wrex's plan, and threaten to take the genophage by force right there, right then.
  40.
  41. If Clan Nakmor was impressed with Shepard in ME2, then they will challenge the conservative clan leaders by backing Wrex, Mordin/Wiks, and Shepard. The other clans, inspired, will also back clan Urdnot and Nakmor, and the conservative clans agree to stand down. If Clan Weyrloc was not overthown in ME2, then Weyrloc Guld will be the only challenger that Shepard and Wrex must kill.
  42.
  43. If Clan Nakmor was not impressed/experienced in ME2, then Shepard and Wrex will have to fight off a handful of krogan soldiers and battle masters who jump into the Hollow's arena-style pit where the cure is. After killing them, Wrex challenges the rest of the clan leaders.
  44.
  45. If Mordin's loyalty mission was not attempted in ME2, then the final challenger is Weyloc Guld, and a small chunk of their clan. If Mordin's loyalty mission was completed, then there are no further challengers. The other clans yield to the strength of Shepard and Wrex, and the temptations of the genophage cure.
  46.
  47. Wrex returns to the Normandy with the genophage cure, and a few krogan scientists to discuss distribution of the genophage cure. Back on the Normandy, Wrex can meet the rest of the crew, be reintroduced to any remaining old crew mates, contact Bakara, and talk to Mordin about the cure. If Shepard wishes to leave the system, Wrex and the other krogan onboard will leave the ship to keep an eye on their clan camps.
  48.
  49. After Wrex is aboard the SR2, he and the other krogan impress Mordin by suggesting that the cure be modified so that it can bind with water molecules, and be distributed via the clan camps' subterranean water systems. Mordin believes it is possible, and the salarian and krogan scientists work together on the project.
  50.
  51. The Normandy gets a call from Urdnot camp, telling Wrex that Reaper forces are advancing on the settlements near Tuchanka. Wrex sends a public message to the clans allied with Urdnot, rallying them to fight the Reapers at any cost. For the mission “Defend Urdnot Camp” Wrex is either a squad-mate with Shepard, or the camp's tactician, coordinating an armed response to the Reaper threat. For more details, visit “Defend Urdnot Camp” in the story missions section.
  52. For the mission “The Cure”, Wrex, Shepard, a small company of soldiers, use trucks to fight off a Reaper Destroyer threatening to destroy the water distribution center on Tuchanka. For more information, visit “The Cure” in the story missions section.
  53.
  54. Potential death:
  55. If Shepard sabotages the genophage and doesn't tell Wrex afterwards, the krogan will track Shepard to the Citadel, confront him with the betrayal, and Shepard will have to either convince Wrex to stand down (Shepard asks Wrex if he truly believes that his people are ready for a genopage cure, to which Wrex realizes that they won't be ready without the political stability he is attempting to build), or kill Wrex so that the salarian dalatrass's reputation is not blemished (she offers the war effort several billion credits in funds if the sabotage remains a secret).
  56.
  57. Notable character interactions:
  58.
  59. Wrex knows that Ashley was prepared to stab him in the back on Virmire. During their reunion on the SR2, he jokingly alludes to this, making Ashley uncomfortable.
  60.
  61. Wrex respects James Vega, seeing him as a “human-krogan”. James is honored by this.
  62.
  63. Wrex and Garrus have snarky arguments regarding the “good old days” on the SR1. Garrus jokes that Wrex is a withering old man, incapable of being useful in intense fire fights. Wrex jokes that Garrus is an ugly turian.
  64.
  65. After the final war summit Wrex can meet Aleena for drinks of the Citadel. She will (pleasantly) challenge him to “rematch”, but Wrex, weighed down with the responsibility of a planet, with decline her offer regretfully.
  66.
  67. Ironing out variables:
  68. If Wrex was killed in ME1, he does not appear in ME3. Urdnot Wreav became clan leader.
  69. If Wrex was not killed in ME1, then Wreav is Urdnot's Weapons Master (Wrex doesn't want Wreav as an advisor, as they disagree on everything).
