- A House United
- This mission marks a turning point for the geth and their future. Their fate lies largely with the decisions made in Mass Effect 2 and the Overlord DLC. The relationship between the geth and quarians (and by extension other organic races) is the center point of this section of ME3's story.
- If Shepard recruited Legion during ME2, the conflict the commander finds himself/herself caught in is a cold war between the quarian fleet struggling to maintain control over Rannoch, and the geth who are either desperate to show the quarians and all organics that they are neither servants of the reapers, nor hostile to organics. The birth of Homeworld is to show the galaxy that the geth are a unified people, ready to assist organics in the Cycle War.
- If Shepard never recruited Legion during ME2 or sold them to Cerberus, the heretics successfully rewrote all true geth to worship the Reapers. The birth of Homeworld is in retaliation of the quarians retaking Rannoch, and signifies geth servitude to the Reapers.
- Introduction:
- A House United is introduced through a cutscene which shows the birth of the geth sphere, Homeworld, also known as “01” and “Geth Sphere”, from the gaseous womb of Ploba. The numeric value corresponds to the geth's first unified wish: to create a new beginning.
- Once Rannoch is retaken from Reaper forces, Shepard receives a message about an increase of geth activity in the Hades Gamma Cluster, and a sighting of Harbinger.
- If Legion was recruited in ME2, it speaks to Shepard via hologram, telling him to come to the planet Ploba. If Legion died in ME2, then it is the replacement diplomate Union who sends Shepard this message. Shepard can go to the planet and investigate the planetary anomalies.
- If Legion was not recruited in ME2, then Shepard gets this message from quarian trading vessels which frequent the Hades Gamma Cluster.
- At Ploba, Shepard and company watch the birth of the Geth Sphere from the Normandy. Emerging from an eye of in one of the gas giant's storms, the geth sphere strikes fear into the quarian's admiralty board, and awe and terror into the crew of the Normandy. Mysterious and ominous in appearance, the geth sphere is a construct unlike anything the council races have ever seen.
- – Assuming Legion was recruited in ME2 --
- Legion/Union explains the construction, purpose, and application of the geth sphere. According to Legion/Union, “Homeworld” was the name chosen by the geth, because it was one of the first words the geth learned from the quarians. In geth language however, the structure is referred to as “01”, marking the synthetics transition from nothing, to something greater. The geth explain that Homeworld is not a planet, despite its name. It is “all Geth, connected and in harmony” according to Legion/Union. The structure is a haven and embodiment for geth, who give the structure the will to perform complex tasks, provide it with defenses, etc. After the structure clears Ploba's atmosphere and successfully becomes a planetary satellite, Legion explains that Geth from all across the galaxy are preparing to upload to the structure, in order to unite against the Reaper threat.
- Shepard and company take the shuttle down to the megastructure's surface. The entire sphere is experiencing massive wind and rain storms, as a result of unstable (but not unforseen) atmospheric conditions, resulting from the sudden departure from the gas giant, Ploba. Fortunately these storms can be partially controlled by the geth, who can summon tornadoes, lightning strikes, and the equivalent to earth quakes on the tectonic plates.
- An elevator tube opens up on the surface, and Shepard's shuttle lands on it. The shuttle descends into the depths of the continent, until the company find themselves on the underside of the plate, in the habitable anchor-arms which descend into the megastructures aquatic depths. Here Shepard can explore the geth megastructure, buy items at a geth production line, and converse with Legion/Union. The geth inform Shepard that they wish to use this structure to gain a better understanding of organics, and, Project Overlord was completed in ME2, Legion/Union will suggest contacting David Archer to do this. Shepard can return to the surface, and contact the Alliance to convince Archer to join the SR2.
- David is flown the the Normandy and nervously discusses Shepard's idea for working with the geth. If convinced, he returns with Shepard to the megastructure, is given an apartment in the underside of Homeworld's continents, participates willingly in experiments with Legion/Union and the geth. Shepard can watch as David uploads some of his memories and thoughts to the megastructure, which shudders and shakes after connecting with the man. The geth are just as shaken by this transpecies interaction as David, but soon the two are used to this connection.
- – Assuming Legion was not recruited in ME2 –
- Geth and quarian ships open fire on each other as the megastructure finalizes its emergence from Ploba. The quarians are horrified by this construct, and the admiralty board begins plans to strike against the geth.
- Liara/Tali will suggest striking Cerberus's Project Aegis, where Dr. Gavin Archer is known to work. After Shepard completes this mission and arrests/recruits Gavin Archer, he can convince the doctor to finalize an anti-geth virus, created through David Archer.
- During the mission “The Virus”,
- Shepard can return to the megastructure and use this Cerberus virus, in addition to quarian harpoon missile technology, to upload the virus to the structure which grants the humans/quarians with geth control.
- Shepard can damage the structure with the help of the quarians, stunning and killing most geth. The remainder of the geth flee, even against the commands of the Reapers.
