  1. >It's pitch black outside.
  2. >A lone flickering street lamp illuminates you as you stand on the street corner.
  3. >You come out here every night.
  4. >Each time, hoping this will be the night.
  5. >But it never is.
  6. >She has abandoned you, left to wallow in sorrow.
  7. >You pray for pity, but pity never comes.
  8. >You look for any glimmer of hope, but you are left in the dark without a guide.
  9. >The cold wind and rain batters you.
  10. >But the chill and eventual hypothermia does not hurt as much as this hollow pain you feel inside.
  11.
  12. >You could run and knock on her door, but she wouldn't answer.
  13. >You could sing her a song, but she would shut you out.
  14. >You could bump into her and announce your feelings for her in public, but she would do everything she can to make you hurt.
  15. >The embarassment she would cause means nothing to you.
  16. >You love her.
  17. >You need her.
  18. >You don't want to let her go.
  19. >It took such a long time for you to finally find her.
  20. >To lose her now would to lose everything.
  21. --
  22. >Her friends, your friends, have tried to help.
  23. >They tried by getting her to take you back.
  24. >They also tried to help you forget her.
  25. >But you just can't.
  26. >You see a picture of her on the wall, in the paper, or see her around town, and your heart skips a beat.
  27. >But when you hear the mention of her name, this storm about you comes around even when the sky is blue.
  28.
  29. >You stare at your feet as the wind twirls about you.
  30. >Brief flashes of lightning illuminate the shadows around you, but only for a brief second.
  31. >The crash of thunder overhead could make you deaf.
  32. >Hopefully it will draw her to her window this night and give her the slightest feeling of remorse.
  33. >A silhouette in a second story window catches your peripherals.
  34. >You look up and spot your one and only watching you.
  35. >Her horn glows a dim light but you can't make out her face.
  36. "Rarity..." you whisper to yourself.
  37. >You drop to your knees, practically begging please.
  38. >She extinguishes the light and closes the curtains.
  39. --
  40. >Your heart shatters.
  41. >You fall forward and lay on the ground, your face in the mud.
  42. >The water works flow uncontrollably.
  43. >You slam your fist into the dirt to vent your frustration.
  44. "Please don't make me..." you say aloud through your tears and sobs.
  45. >This girl stole your world.
  46. >Now you are nothing but a phony.
  47. >You just tried to hold on until she was really gone.
  48. >As much as you prayed that day would never come, it appears it has reared its ugly head.
  49.
  50. >Despite the mud, you can still taste her kiss on your lips.
  51. >Despite the storm, you can still see the moonlight dancing off of her big sapphire eyes.
  52. >You get drunk on her every time.
  53. >You just can't help but lose control of yourself when she's around.
  54. >But now...
  55. >For some time now, you had a feeling she was only playing with your heart.
  56. >She always had an eye for anything that glittered.
  57. >But you were far from being made of gold.
  58. >How you ever scraped up the money remains a mystery to all. Even you.
  59. >But you just could never quite tell her 'No'.
  60. >But a night or two of loving her is better than never at all.
  61. --
  62. >You have been laying out in the cold for a while now.
  63. >You curl into a ball to try to stay somewhat warm.
  64. >But the longer you are concious, the more you reminisce.
  65. >The more you reminisce, the worse the pain gets.
  66. >You swore you would never degrade this far.
  67. >To never allow yourself to give up.
  68. >To let her go, and let yourself go.
  69. >You hated yourself for coming to this.
  70. >How has it even come to this?
  71. >You don't remember the details, but it hurts all the same.
  72.
  73. >If you had a star for every scar this mare had tattooed on your heart, Luna would be out of a job.
  74. >You could fill the entire Equestrian sky and then some.
  75. >But it's not all bad.
  76. >The time you had with her was the best of your life.
  77. >She doesn't want you back, and it kills you, but at least you have your memories.
  78. >It might take some time to patch yourself up inside.
  79. >But you can't take it so you just run away and hide.
  80. >All you want is her to be back in your arms again.
  81. >Another bolt of lighting coupled with the clap of thunder drowns all of your thoughts.
  82. >It would be another minute, but you find sleep's loving embrace as you pass out from exhaustion.
  83. >It will be all over soon.
  84. --
  85. >Today is the day.
  86. >You are walking towards the Carousel Boutique with a spring in your step.
  87. >Today is the finally the day!
  88. >You will tell her you love her.
  89. >Not simply that, but how much you truly love her.
  90. >You can't wait to put this ring around her horn.
  91. >And promise her forever.
  92. >Together.
  93.
  94. >You had your hand in your pocket, ring in your grip.
  95. >But when she had told time is all she really needed, you gently eased off and pulled your hand back out.
  96. >You walked away and let her have her space.
  97. >But she couldn't see the tears welling up in your eyes.
  98. >Or the way you fell back against a wall when you rounded the corner.
  99. >And then that fateful day of when she came trotting up to you with him.
  100. >It had just finally hit you.
  101. >She doesn't really miss you.
  102. >You told her that you were happy for her.
  103. >You stood there wishing for just one more chance.
  104. >But it's all too clear that it is too late for that.
  105. >You didn't want to believe it, and even the thought of it was hard.
  106. >But it seems she's really gone now.
  107. --
  108. >The days were spent at your home.
  109. >Your door was locked and your curtains closed.
  110. >The only illumination was the light of a single flickering candle.
  111. >All the alcohol in Equestria couldn't erase your memories of her.
  112. >It probably didn't help that you had pictures of the two of you all around you.
  113. >You friends stop by to check in because you have completely checked out.
  114. >You tell them you're fine, but they know better.
  115. >After a while though, they give up, hoping that you will come to your sense on your own.
  116. >When night comes, you abandon your home to throw away your bits at the bar.
  117. >Those neon arms hold you tight and bring you comfort.
  118. >You have a table for two in the farthest corner from the door where you sit alone.
  119. >You have never been the kind to let your feelings show for any reason.
  120. >This whiskey kills the man she's turned you into.
  121. >But after a few bottles, well, to hell with everything.
  122. >Forget your pride and let it rain.
  123. >There's no telling how many tears you've sat here and cried.
  124. >And even more so the lies you have told your poor heart that she would come back someday.
  125. >This hurt inside of you is never gonna end.
  126. >It needs to get bad before it gets better.
  127. >But you will never get over her by hiding this way.
  128. --
  129. >Before morning comes, you stumble your way home.
  130. >You hate life and everything that encompasses it.
  131. >Had you never come to this place...
  132. >Well, you probably wouldn't be much better off.
  133. >But at least you wouldn't have had your heart ripped from your chest like it has here.
  134. >But then you wouldn't have met Rarity.
  135. >She had been so generous to you.
  136. >She knew what made you tick and even allowed you to stay with her.
  137. >Over time, those feelings developed into a full blown relationship.
  138. >And in one fell swoop, it was all washed away.
  139.
  140. >Where did you go wrong?
  141. >The passion was lost, and all the trust was gone.
  142. >All you could do was hold her hooves, look into her eyes, and watch her drift away.
  143. >Some might say you've done the wrong things.
  144. >But nopony would ever elaborate.
  145. >Everything's so blurry, this world so cold.
  146.
  147. >Now you walk this dark and lonely road, miles from away from those who care for you.
  148. >There's nothing there for you while the city sleeps and all the shops are closed.
  149. >But as you walk, you can't help but recall all the words she spoke to you.
  150. >Of all the times you've had with her.
  151. >Oh how you wish you were there, back to where you were loved.
  152. >But you're lonely and you're tired.
  153. >And your house is coming into view.
  154. >You're almost home.
  155. >Almost home...
  156. >Al...most... home...
  157. --
  158. >A hoof is lightly rocking you around.
  159. >"Hey! Are you okay?"
  160. >You're awake.
  161. >And alive to live another day.
  162. >Why does fate taunt you so?
  163. >You slowly roll over onto your back.
  164. >This grey sky morning was even more depressing than the violent storm last night.
  165. >Maybe you're just haunted.
  166. >Too bad you fell asleep with your face buried in your arm.
  167. >Maybe you could've drowned in the mud while you were asleep.
  168. >But, as fate would have it, it seems that you are here to stay.
  169. >But can you really ever let her go?
  170.
  171. >"Anonymous!"
  172. >You lift your head to face your... well, your savior in a sense.
  173. "You woke me up, Rose."
  174. >"Are you bucking insane, Anonymous? You could have-"
  175. "Why? Why would you do that?"
  176. >You lay your head back down and close your eyes.
  177. "It was so peaceful. I had those dreams again, but it ended so softly. Instead of an abrupt awakening, I was almost home. Almost at peace."
  178. >"What? Are you accepting death Anon? Are you giving up so easily? What would have happened had you actually made it 'home'?"
  179. "I don't know."
  180. >You sit up to face Roseluck.
  181. "But I imagine it would have been wonderful."
  182. --
  183. >Roseluck sighed.
  184. >"Anonymous, come with me."
  185. "Why? There's nothing for me anywhere in this world. Perhaps I'll become a hermit. Live my life in total solitude."
  186. >"Anonymous, get up."
  187. >Reluctantly, you stand from your comfortable spot in the mud.
  188. "What time is it?"
  189. >"Six o'clock."
  190. "The hell...? Why are you up so early? Nopony's up this early."
  191. >She shrugged.
  192. >"I had something to take care of, but that can wait. You should just feel lucky I just so happened to stumble across you before something bad could happen."
  193. "Yeah... Lucky..."
  194.
  195. >You make it back to her house, but you stand by her door.
  196. >She brings you a towel and a blanket.
  197. >You wipe off what mud you can and she wraps you in the blanket and sits you on her couch.
  198. >"I can only imagine what you must be feeling Anonymous, but don't think it's all over."
  199. "But I have nothing left. Literally."
  200. >"But this isn't right. You shouldn't do this to yourself."
  201. "Well why not."
  202. >"Because it's selfish."
  203. >You lower your head in shame, but she turns your to face her once again.
  204. >She placed a hoof in your lap and looked you straight in the eyes.
  205. >"And regardless of what you might think, there's always somepony out there who cares for you."
