  1. >"Bye, Twilight!" called Rarity. "See you later, darling!"
  2. >Twilight waved back at Rarity.
  3. >You walk with Fluttershy and Rarity back to the boutique.
  4. >You stare at your shoes.
  5. >You don't need x-ray vision, but you can see right through them.
  6. "That was horrible," you mutter to yourself.
  7. >Rarity gasped.
  8. >"That was their best spa treatment!" she defended. "If you didn't think that was the most amazing thing, your standards are way too high."
  9. >She turned away from you and stuck her nose in the air.
  10. >You look at her and raise an eyebrow.
  11. "What? No, not that."
  12. >"So the spa itself, then? Well, I must agree. It isn't the most glamorous place, but-"
  13. "Nevermind!"
  14. >You go back to staring at your feet as you walk.
  15. >Rarity looks you up and down before figuring it out.
  16. >"Oh come now, Anonymous. This isn't about your toe nails, is it?"
  17. >"I think it is," whispered Fluttershy.
  18. "Yeah, it kind of is."
  19. --
  20. >"Oh, grow up," said Rarity. "I thought you were a sensitive stallion."
  21. >"He is," defended Fluttershy. "He's really sweet, but can get a little bit cranky."
  22. "I'm more annoyed that you told the spa ponies to do it despite my protests."
  23. >The two best friends shared a giggle.
  24. >"Well that's what you get for falling asleep on us," said Rarity.
  25. "I wasn't asleep. I passed out from the horrible pain those ponies put me through."
  26. >"That was a massage," said Rarity, flatly.
  27. "She almost broke my spine!"
  28. >"Have you never had a massage before?" asked Rarity. "The masseus said you were extremely tense."
  29. "Yeah, from Fluttershy."
  30. >"Ooh. Really now?" teased Rarity, smiling at Fluttershy.
  31. "I meant a massage from Fluttershy..." you say, unamused.
  32. >"Well there's your problem, Anonymous. You act like darling little Fluttershy here has the ability to massage a bear or something."
  33. >Fluttershy shyed behind her mane and smiled.
  34. "I guess. And I have a question."
  35. >You direct your attention to Fluttershy.
  36. "You're not pranking me because you're mad about me cutting my hair, are you."
  37. >"No," she replys.
  38. >You raise an eyebrow.
  39. "You sure? You seem like it."
  40. >"No. It's okay."
  41. >You squint your eyes, trying to see through this yellow pegasus.
  42. >You can't tell if she's actually being honest, or doing that one thing girls like to do to annoy you.
  43. >Guilt trip, that's it.
  44. "Hm... Alright then."
  45. --
  46. >A sharp whistle conjures the attention of each of you.
  47. >You spin on your heel and spot a griffon waving you over.
  48. "Oh, this'll be good," you say as you start walking.
  49. >Fluttershy and Rarity follow.
  50. >"Anonymous!" greets the griffon as he throws his forelegs around your shoulders.
  51. >"My favorite customer!"
  52. >You return the gesture and pat him once on the back before backing off.
  53. "What's up?"
  54. >"We got your order in this morning!"
  55. "The smell-good spray?"
  56. >"You got it."
  57. "Awesome!"
  58. >You turn around and pick Fluttershy up in a hug.
  59. "Now we can go home and sto-"
  60. >Rarity frowns at you.
  61. "Er, I mean, now we can move out of Rarity's place and stop bothering her."
  62. >"Oh, right."
  63. >Rarity kicked the dirt.
  64. >You drop Fluttershy and pay the griffon.
  65. >A handshake and a thanks sends the three of you on your way.
  66. >You toss Fluttershy into the air, laughing and whirling her around.
  67. --
  68. >As much as you enjoy Rarity's company, it was great to finally be able to go home.
  69. >You have everything you brought in your arms, with Fluttershy carrying a few things as well.
  70. "Woohoo!" you cheer as you jog a few steps from the building.
  71. >Fluttershy trots out behind you.
  72. >Rarity stands in the doorway.
  73. >"Bye, Rarity. Thanks for everything," said Fluttershy.
  74. "Yeah! Thanks, Rare!" you wave back.
  75. >Rarity giggles at her nickname.
  76. >Her smile quickly fades and she waves back to you.
  77. >"Well, if you ever need a place to stay, don't hesitate to ask," she called after you.
  78. "You got it," you give her a thumbs up.
  79. >She cocks her head at the gesture, but then smiles and nods.
  80. >Rarity turned and stepped back inside, closing the door softly behind her.
  81. >Looking around the shop, she couldn't help but feel depressed.
  82. >The sun was setting, darkening the building.
  83. >She walked upstairs and lied down in her bed.
  84. >Another night alone, she fell asleep.
  85. --
  86. >It's late, and you and Fluttershy are on your way home.
  87. "I have the feeling there was something more sinister behind these little pranks."
  88. >"I thought so too, but she never did anything real mean."
  89. "Heheh. Probably because they backfired.
  90. >"Maybe."
  91. >Fluttershy giggles as well.
  92. "I'm still trying to figure out how I failed to notice you grow so large. I must have really been out of it."
  93. >Fluttershy blushed and hid her face behind her mane, looking away from you.
  94. >You frantically motion your hands in front of you.
  95. "Er, I mean, uh... Not like fat or anything. Just like, uh... you expanded. I mean-"
  96. >Fluttershy began to laugh.
  97. >Your face turned bright red.
  98. "Hey look, were home," you say, quickly changing the subject.
  99. --
  100. >You drop everything on the living room floor and spray the odor eater around the house.
  101. >Particularly around where the birds and smaller creatures sleep.
  102. >"You sure that won't hurt them?" asked Fluttershy.
  103. >You check the bottle.
  104. "It says 'Non-toxic'."
  105. >"Okay. That's good."
  106. >You finish your work and inhale deeply.
  107. "Let's go for a walk while this stuff kicks in."
  108. >"That would be nice."
  109. >The two of you turn and leave the house.
  110.
  111. >The moon is actually rather bright tonight.
  112. >Even the shadows were lit well enough to see if you concentrated.
  113. >The moonflowers and nightshade were blooming brilliantly, basking in the moonlight.
  114. >There was a light fog, but it did little to hinder your view distance.
  115. >The air was rather chilly as well.
  116. >The seasons are changing and it's becoming more noticable.
  117. >The leaves of the trees are turning more than they were a few weeks ago.
  118. >Any week now, it would be time for them to fall.
  119. --
  120. >A slight breeze sends goosebumps up your arms.
  121. >You shiver and rub your arms to warm them up a little.
  122. >"You okay?" asked Fluttershy.
  123. "Just fine. Just a little bit chilly. Summer's gone, you know."
  124. >She nodded her head.
  125. >"Mhm. I have a question, if that's okay with you."
  126. "Shoot."
  127. >"Do humans, uh, grow winter coats, or something?"
  128. "Uh... no, actually. We do not."
  129. >"Then how do you stay warm? Do you hibernate?"
  130. "Nope. More clothes. And I don't hibernate."
  131. >"Oh, okay. I feel pretty silly for asking."
  132. >You smile.
  133. "You can't learn everything all at once. I'm sure you'll still find stuff about me years from now." >Fluttershy smiles.
  134. >"Yeah, I guess so."
  135. >You wait a minute or so before finally asking.
  136. "So how do you stay warm in the cold?"
  137. >"Oh, uhm... Well, we sometimes wear boots or ear muffs."
  138. "Got it. Me too. Looks like I don't have to worry about freezing this winter."
  139. >"Nope."
  140. >It's silence from here on out.
  141. >At one point, you turned off the main road and down a small winding path.
  142. >Fluttershy wanted to question where you were going, but she trusted you knew.
  143. --
  144. >Fluttershy starts to become a little hesitant as the path becomes overgrown with foliage.
  145. >After all, it's so late out.
  146. >Who knows what creatures could be lurking in the shadows.
  147. >But seeing you walk onward without flinching gives her enough confidence to follow.
  148. >Fluttershy is right on your heels through the trees.
  149. >The sound of crickets and various other insects fills the air.
  150. >The gentle flow of water soon comes within hearing range.
  151. >The path leads you around a large bend.
  152. >On the other side is a small clearing.
  153. >The opposite bank is full of tall grasses and flowers.
  154. >A willow droops over the water.
  155. >Torchbugs blink and the moonlight filters through the canopy in pillars of dim light.
  156. >This is also, coincidentally, the same place you come to enjoy some quality fishing.
  157. >Fluttershy has never been here, and her father is the only other pony to your knowledge who has been here.
  158.
  159. >Fluttershy gasped and covered her mouth with her hooves.
  160. >One particular pillar hits her face just right.
  161. >Her eyes appear to radiate like the moon itself.
  162. >Just seeing her like that is all too adorable.
  163. >It drives you wild.
  164. >You walk beneath the willow and lie down, facing the sky.
  165. >Fluttershy lies next to you, curled into your side.
  166. >You wrap an arm around her and pull her close.
  167. >She in turn spreads a wing over you.
  168. >She's warm.
  169. >Warm enough to stave off the cool evening air.
  170. >You have a sudden flash of deja vu.
  171. --
  172. "Huh..."
  173. >"Hm?"
  174. >You shake your head.
  175. "Nothing."
  176. >You turn on your side.
  177. >Fluttershy withdraws her wing as you pull her close, her back to your chest.
  178. >You keep one arm forward for the two of you to use as a pillow.
  179. >You close your eyes and press your face into Fluttershy's mane.
  180. >She smells so wonderful.
  181. >You could fall asleep right now.
  182. >In fact...
  183. >You yawn.
  184. >This would be the perfect time to nap.
  185. >"Anon?"
  186. >Or not.
  187.
  188. "Yeah?"
  189. >"Do you ever miss home?"
  190. >You open your eyes in surprise.
  191. >Where did that come from?
  192. "Yeah, I think about it occasionally."
  193. >"What do you miss about it?"
  194. "I usually think about the times I've had, or my family."
  195. >"Do you ever wish you could go back?"
  196. "Sometimes."
  197. >You lift your head over hers and kiss her on the cheek.
  198. "But then I remember I have you to keep me here."
  199. >She looks up at you and you smile.
  200. >She returns the smile and lifts her head to peck you on the lips.
  201. >You lower your head and meet her with a longer, passionate kiss.
  202. --
  203. >When it breaks, she rolls onto her back and you lie over her.
  204. >You use your arms as support to keep your full weight off of her.
  205. >She holds your cheeks with both hooves as you kiss once more.
  206. >Soft coos escape her as you move down to her neck and belly.
  207. >Using her wings as a hint, she lightly tugs your shirt up.
  208. >You pull it off and kiss once more.
  209. >She tries to undo your belt with her hooves, but fails.
  210. >You undo that as well and kick your pants off, still locked in a kiss.
  211. >Fluttershy breathes heavily and pulls your head as close to her as physically possible.
  212. >The moans escaping her never leave the forest.
  213. >You never go back home that night.
