raising Caroline Chapter 1

>Been in Equestria for almost a year

>More specifically, it's Nightmare night in Ponyville.

>You spend the evening with Fluttershy, apparently she doesn't like this holiday, go figure.

>She's been such a bro since you came to Equestria.

>Took you in when you had no where else to sleep, helped acclimate you to pony society.

>She even got you a job, whatabro.jpg.

>staying with her is the least you could do.

>The night was going well for the most part, you spent the time reassuring her and keeping her calm.

>Suddenly there is a knock at the door, and Fluttershy freaks.

>"GO AWAY, NO TRICK OR TREATERS ALLOWED"

>Twilight's voice answers from the other side of the door.

>"Open up Fluttershy, it's me, Twilight"

>Fluttershy calms down noticeably and starts unlocking the redundant dead bolts and chain locks across her door.

>She apparently installed them just for tonight.

>You still don't know how ponies manage to do anything with hooves, you chalk it up to magic, it needs no explanation.

>All the locks are undone and Fluttershy opens the door saying hello to twilight...and Luna?

>You step out along with Fluttershy to greet the new arrivals.  

>You've met both princesses when you first came to Equestria, you were the talk of the town, and everyone was interested in seeing you.

>Twilight buts in, cutting of friendly chatter, going straight to business.

>"Fluttershy, can you help Princess Luna with moderating your voice.

>"O-Okay".

>Everyone strains to hear Fluttershy, damn she is quiet.  

>A few minutes later, Luna has better control of her voice and walks confidently back to town to win the favor of the locals.

>This could be interesting you think to yourself.

"Hey Fluttershy, I need to go into town, you think you will be alright by yourself?"

>"Sure Anon, hurry back please".

>You turn around and head to town to see how Luna handles being around other ponies.

>Apparently not very well.

>You reach the town and notice little foals crying and decorations being torn down.

>You notice Twilight in costume down an ally way with Luna and what looks like a giant chicken.

>curious as to what happened you head down to investigate.

>As you approach you see a flash of lighting.

>The chicken gave a loud squawk and ran off frightened.

>A flash of purple and Twilight teleports capturing the escaping chicken.

>As you get closer, you realize the chicken is only Pinkie Pie in costume.

>The three ponies are focused on their conversation.

>You decide it would be rude to intrude and turn to leave.

>Before you do you notice an object, the size of your hand lying on the ground in front of you.

>You bend down to pick it up and realize it is a light purple egg with darker polka dots.

>It can't be...that would be ridiculous.

>You place the egg under your jacket and chuckle to yourself at the implications.

>Fluttershy would know what to do, and maybe you could raise it to be a your pet, whatever is inside.

>Your mind churns over the possibilities and before you know it you are back at Fluttershy's house.

>Calling out to Fluttershy to let her know you're back, you hear her fumbling at the various locks.

>Finally the door opens and you see a very nervous looking Fluttershy.

"Flutters, look what I found"

>You proudly hold out the egg you saved from the cold and hand it carefully over to her.

>She takes the egg in her hooves and squees at the sight.

>"I know just what to do".

>She flies upstairs with you following behind.

>She hands you back the egg and continues to set up what looks like an incubator.

>You carefully set the egg inside, standing still for a  moment to look at it.

"What do you think will hatch from the egg Flutters"

>"I'm not sure, I've never seen an egg like this before, maybe Twilight will know"?

"It's getting late Fluttershy, I think I'm gonna head back home, do you think you can watch the egg for me"?

>"Of course I can Anon, but maybe you can stay over for the night"

>She looks up at you with big doe eyes.

>How can you refuse your bro

"Sure, I'll crash on the couch"

>Fluttershy squees again as you make yourself comfortable on the couch.

>You wake up in the morning to the smell of breakfast cooking.

>Going into the kitchen you find Fluttershy cooking eggs and toast for you.

"Thanks for the breakfast Fluttershy"

>"No, thank you Anon for staying with me last night"

>You don't blame her, she gets scared easily, and Nightmare Night had to be the worst night for her.

>The two of you eat breakfast in amiable silence and you help clean the plates.

"Do you think it would be any trouble to keep watch over the egg, you seem to know more about this stuff than I do".

>"Sure, no problem".

>After cleaning up after yourself, you say good bye to Flutterbro and make your way to the town spa.

>Apparently, Fluttershy is a weekly costumer and was the one who recommended you for the job.

>It's enjoyable work and the morning hours pass quickly.

>At mid day you take your break and decide to head over to the library and see Twilight.

>You walk in without knocking, its a public library after all, even though she lives in here.

>You see Spike putting books back in their rightful places.

"Spike, is Twilight in"?

>"Yeah, just let me get her".

>Spike walks down to the basement and soon enough, both are seen walking back up.

>"What did you want"? Twilight asks

"I was wondering if you had any books on different types of eggs and the animals that lay them"

>Sure enough, she does, handing you a thick tome.

>You spend your lunch break in the library eating your sandwhich while flipping through the pages hoping to find some insight into what you have gotten yourself into.

>You find the page about dragon eggs, close, but the coloring is a little off.

>Without finding any answers you return the book.

>You were about to leave but Twilight stops you.

>"Did you find what you were looking for"

"No, nothing in the description quite matches the egg I found last night"

>"Interesting, do you mind if I come over and take a look"

"No, not at all, just come around to Fluttershy's house in the afternoon, she is taking care of the egg for me"

>You leave to head back to your job to finish up for the afternoon.

>Receiving your bits from Aloe, you catch up with Twilight and head over to Fluttershy's house.

>You describe to her how you found the egg and what it looks like.

>"I'll have to run some tests, but I can't guarantee anything, it might even be a new species"

>She seems excited at the prospect and picks up the pace.

>You soon reach Fluttershy's cottage at the edge of town, knocking at the door to get her attention.

>Fluttershy opens her door, greeting the both of you.

>The three of you make your way upstairs while you explain to Fluttershy why Twilight is here.

>You make it to Fluttershy's room and Twilight immediately makes her way to the incubator.

>She begins to examine the egg, jotting notes into a small notebook.

>Levitating the egg with her magic, she shines a light against the egg to check the embryo inside

>"That's odd"

"What is it"

>"While the egg IS similar to a dragon's, the embryo is not draconian at all, in fact, I'm not sure what kind of creature will hatch from this egg, the best thing to do would be to keep it warm and see what hatches".

>After enjoying a pot of tea and catching up, Twilight leaves to go back to her library promising to do more research.

>You spend more time with Fluttershy, helping her take care of her animals and just spending time with her.

"I need to get going home Fluttershy, you're sure you don't mind taking care of the egg"?

>"Of course not, it's no trouble at all"

>You thank fluttershy and head back home thinking about what kind of creature could hatch from the egg.

>A few months pass much in the same way they always had, working at the spa and spending time with your friends.

>You've all made your guesses at what the mystery egg could be, but even Twilight, through her dedicated research hasn't come closer to an answer.

>You're working at the spa as usual in the afternoon, using your hands to great effect on Lyra of all ponies.

>Lyra gets up of the massage table, thanking you as she leaves the room.

>Bored, you look out the window to see a fast moving yellow and pink blur.

"Fluttershy"?

>You see her enter the spa through the main entrance, and soon enough, she bursts into the room.

>"Anon come quick, it's hatching"

>Without giving an excuse to Aloe and Lotus, you dash out of the spa running as fast your legs could carry you.

>Suddenly you're lifted into the air by a pair of hooves.

>Looking up, you see Fluttershy flying as fast as she can with a determined expression on her face.

>What a bro.

>Her house comes into view and you are set down at her doorstep.

>You throw open the door and race upstairs to where the egg is kept, Fluttershy following close behind.

>Entering her room, you see the egg there under the heating lamp, shaking slightly as the creature inside struggles to break out.

>You and Fluttershy remain still watching its progress.

>Finally an avian claw emerges from the egg.

"So you're some kind of bird"

>"Maybe an eagle or a falcon"

>You continue watching eagerly awaiting for more of the little bird to emerge.

>Then a lion's paw emerges opposite the claw like appendage.

"So you're a griffon then?"

>"I didn't even think they came from eggs?"

>You are both confused when all of a sudden a lizard like leg pushes out of the egg shell.

"Well, I'm all out of ideas, what about you Fluttershy?"

>"No, it can't be"

"What are you talking about Fluttershy?"

>She doesn't respond to you, continuing to stare intently at the hatchling.

>Your attention is drawn back to an egg as a goat leg frees itself from the confining egg.

>"No no no no, this can't be happening."

"Do you know what this is Fluttershy?"

>She doesn't respond but continues to stare at the confusing mix of legs and egg shell.

>Finally a pony like head breaks free of the shell.

>Whatever it is stares around the room with bright red eyes.

>It's eyes land on you and you can tell it is definitely a female.

>A smile widens across her face and you notice a single fang.

>She stands up on her legs and shakes off the remnants of her shell

>You can't help but smile at her cute antics.

>Giving a small yawn, she sticks out a forked tongue.

>D'awwww, she's tired.

>She climbs into your lap, falling fast asleep.
