I toss and turn and eventually just give up, looking at my surroundings. Mom's gone, it seems. I see a couple of pills and a note next to them on the table. “Gone to the supermarket. Take these at 3:00. -Mom” I look over to the clock and take the pills. It suddenly occurs to me that all this has happened before. Is this a dream? The thought alone makes me hurt, so I try to stop thinking, but the thought plagues me. Yeah. This was back in second grade. Ow.   Suddenly, a thought comes to my head that somehow seems to alleviate the headache some. Something important happens soon! Cutie mark... cutie mark... I comfort myself with the thought as I start dozing off again.   I find myself with a pamphlet. “So, you want to be something else?” it asks. I guess I never quite fit in entirely as a pony. I look through the pamphlet. It seems to be... for humans. It says the reasons being a human is bad, and how someone might want to be something... anything, else. It even mentions ponies! Why... I'm so lucky to be a pony! It goes on... and it talks about how you could turn yourself into a human. It just seems like a bad idea. Fitting in isn't everything.   I wake up to the door opening and closing. Must be mom coming back from the grocery store. I get all excited that my mom's home and my tail starts wiggling. Yep, it's good to be a pony. I roll off the couch onto all fours and I run to the door. I start coughing. I run through the kitchen. I turn. I start to see blackness at the corners of my eyes. My vision fades to black and my legs give out. I hear a thud. I wake up in a hospital bed. No one is here. I feel really exhausted, unable to get up or call out for anyone. For some reason, some pictures on the walls catch my eye. They're of all varieties of folks, none of them human. They all look scared... There are even some ponies like me. Each of the pictures say “After” below them. They must have all been really sick. I look over at a table next to me. The book with the sunflower on the cover sits on it. I take the book and squint at it. If I try really slow, I can read the words on it. I open it, and it's all really neat facts about a bunch of different flowers and how to identify them and how to grow them, and before I know it, I've gotten to the other side of it. I blink a few times, and then start to doze off again.   “Now, everything you'll need to know is in the pamphlet you read, but I'm required to repeat it anyways. First of all, you'll be put under...” A man behind a desk goes babbling on about some boring stuff I already knew. I nod, say yes, and then he hands over a pen and a clipboard. I begin to take the pen with my mouth, and my head starts hurting. My eyes open and I see a bright light and a man with a mask on his face. He starts yelling incomprehensibly. My eyes shut again, and the boring man at the desk is back. He gives me a different pen, because he doesn't want me putting my mouth on his nice one. He leaves, and I sit there, reading over the papers. I look at my hoof, and I don't know why, really. A nurse interrupts my thoughts. “Sir?” she asks. I look at her oddly. No one would ever mistake me for a man, I don't think. I don't understand why anyone would--- Oh... it's a dream. I wake up to see my parents huddled around my bed, as well as a doctor with brown hair.     “Good morning, Miss Blossom”, the Doctor says. She feels familiar to me, like I met her somewhere else. “You gave us a little scare there. You were a lot more sick than you thought.” She smiled at me. “But you're going to be all right now, okay?” I nod a little. My father spoke up and hands them to me, “Lilacs. Just like your name.” I look at them and remember everything I read about them. I feel a little tingling sensation on my flank, looking at the flowers closely. I roll over a bit, and I pull the blanket off my flank. “Oh sweetie, I'm so proud of you.” A bunch of flowers were there, my cutie mark, I finally found my true calling. One last pain in my head. It lasted for a while, hurting my whole head all over. I felt cold.   “What's your name?” A woman with brown hair stood in front of me with a flashlight I stuttered a little “L-lilac Blossom” “Good! Why are you here?” “I don't know.” She checked something off. “Okay, so, we're going to take your picture, and then you can be on your merry way!” She waved the light back and forth, and I followed it with my eyes. She checked something off, and then walked back and pulled out a digital camera. “What am I doing here?” “Don't worry about that, sweetie.” She pressed the button, and the flash went off. I looked at my hooves, my cutie mark and all over my body. She started to put the put the camera away. “Wait.” I paused. “Can you take another one?” “Well...” This seemed new to her “Sure, I suppose.” I gave the woman a big smile for the camera, and the flash went off again. She looked at the screen on the camera, almost stunned for some reason. She smiled, and gave me a lollipop.
