- Setting: Autumn, in the White Tail Forests, over the course of a day.
- Summary: Applejack, Rarity, Rainbow Dash, Twilight and Spike go out to the White Tail Woods to check on Applejack's sap pales. When Spike learns that Deer are within the woods, he, Applejack, and Rainbow Dash go to investigage. What they find leads to a tale of adventure, conflict, and self discovery for one young colt, and one baby dragon.
- Intro scene: The ponies, with Spike, RD, and Applejack carrying buckets, are off to the White Tail Woods to help AJ replace the buckets gathering sap for the Autumn months. When deer are mentioned, Spike, upon hearing the topic, asks if they can go see these deer. Twi and Rarity of course oppose the idea, since Deer are known to be over protective and sometimes fairly rough, but RD and AJ offer to go with Spike to keep him out of trouble. Spike asks why he'd need baby sitting, but that is replied by a few giggles. Spike is not amused.
- Act I: So Spike, AJ, and RD go deeper into the woods, off path, while Twi and Rarity set to work changing the buckets. As they go in, Spike, riding on Applejack, asks why Deer are so protective. Applejack replies that it's their way of life. They don't like ponies messing with them, and so they simply avoid one another to prevent conflict. RD comments about how fast they are on their feet though, and decides to scout on ahead of the others. Applejack yells for her to stick with them, but by then she's already gone. Spike asks if AJ had ever met a Deer before. She says she hasn't, but Granny Smith used to be on good terms with them in the old days.
- They hear a crash ahead, and quickly charge forward to find Rainbow Dash at the wrong end of a Buck's antlers, Redwood's to be exact. Redwood seems furious at the group, and charges, knocking over AJ and sending spike hurdling under a tree root. Applejack, noticing Spike missing, tells RD to distract the Buck and go get Rarity and Twilight. With RD spinning circles around Redwood, she zooms off, with the Buck surprisingly keeping up with her with his agility. AJ, meanwhile, goes off to retrieve Spike.
- Spike, meanwhile, finds himself lost within the woods, calling out for AJ and RD. But his calls are, instead, greeted with a curious colt, Treebark. Spike and Treebark talk it out as they travel, Spike explaining he got separated from his friends by a crazy Buck. Treebark casually tells him that it's probably his dad looking for him, for which Spike seems surprised. While TB keeps asking Spike questions, Spike keeps trying to subtly ask TB if he knows who he really is. Treebark continues to comment about how overprotective his father is, and that he made TB's antlers for him because he hadn't grown his in yet. Spike, of course, wants to tell him the truth, but tries not to call attention to it. Here, Spike finally hears Applejack calling for him, and the two reunite. Applejack is equally confused by Treebark as Spike was. Spike asks where Rainbow Dash is.
- We cut to RD running from Redwood, who is starting to catch up. Cut to commercial break.
- Act II: We cut back to Twilight and Rarity, who comment about how peaceful the forest seems, until RD yells to the others to get out of the way as she blazes through. Redwood charges through, but the buckets of sap cause him to stumble and fall, held down by the syrupy substance. RD, finally having the chance to get a break, yells at Redwood and asks what the heck his problem was.
- Twilight and Rarity try to calm Redwood down, but he seems so furious that it is not until Mapleleaf, Redwood's wife, enters the scene that he finally calms his tits, and they try to get Redwood's side of the story. Redwood tells the ponies that his son is missing, and thought RD might be responsible because they were ponies, which confuses the three greatly. On the condition that he stops going on a rampage, the three ponies agree to help him and Mapleleaf find Treebark.
- Cut back to AJ, Spike, and Treebark. Treebark is curious about AJ, as he apparently never saw a pony before, just as he never saw a dragon before either. He asks some strange questions, like why she was bright orange, and then asked if that was because she ate a lot of oranges, etc, which gets on AJ's nerves. Spike and AJ try their best to explain things to him, but their comments and their attempts to convince him he is a pony seem to fly over his head.
- Cut back to RD and her crew. Redwood and Mapleleaf begin to explain Treebark's origins and how he was adopted when he was a newborn. They always felt he was different, but loved him as they would their own. While his parents are never directly mentioned, it is implied they are either dead or missing.
- AJ manages to find RD's crew, and Treebark and his parents happily reunite. However, RD notices that TB is indeed a pony, and tries to point it out. Though AJ is quick to silence her. They begin struggling with one another, which causes Twilight ask her group to be excused for a moment.
- They split themselves from Treebark's group, and Twilight asks what's the problem. RD is quick to say that Treebark is a pony, and Applejack says she knows. RD seems frustrated, saying they should do something about it, but AJ thinks they should let them be, and that it'd be better if he just kept living happily. Spike tries to interject, but gets drowned out by RD and AJ arguing. Rarity tries to break up the argument, but then RD blurts out this line:
- RD: "He isn't ONE of them though, AppleJack, don't you get that!? He doesn't BELONG with them!"
- Everyone freezes, focus goes back to Spike, who is holding back tears. Rarity is the first to ask if he's alright, but then Spike runs into the woods, sobbing, and running past TB's family as he does so. Treebark, concerned, follows.
- Act III:
- TB's parents return to the remaining four ponies, knowing that their argument is presumably done. They comment that they know who Treebark really is, but they know that, with his own kind, he will not have a family to return to. They don't care that he's a pony. They love him regardless.
- Cut to Spike drying his tears, sitting on a log at the edge of a cliff as he stares at the setting sun. TB arrives, standing beside him as the two look at eachother. Spike asks TB about what he'd do if he realized he was different from everyone else. TB replies that being different does not mean you can't be loved. To him, it would not matter if he was a dragon, a pony, or anything else. As long as his father worked hard to protect him, and his mother loved him, then he would not care if he was different or not. (Potential song? Potential song.) This cheers up Spike considerably, but right as the two feel comfortable enough to go back, the cliff gives in, both TB and Spike sliding towards a rocky abyss below. Spike grabs hold of a root, but it is quickly breaking. TB calls for his dad for help.
- Cut back to the others. Redwood, hearing his son, rushes towards the call at lightning speed, and Dash, knowing she had to do something to make up for what she said, zooms above the trees as the rest of the group struggle to follow.
- Spike tries to hold on, Redwood arriving first. Using his antlers, he scoops Spike up, but TB slips from Spike's grip and grabs the same root. Spike, in desperation, reaches for one of TB's antlers, which TB yells for him not to take. Spike yells back that he doesn't need them, and tries to use the thick antler branch to give something for TB to grab onto. Unfortunately, the root finally snaps, and Treebark falls, his other antler falling with him.
- But RD, arriving next, finally reaches the group and with rainbow speed, snatches TB in mid air, landing him beside Redwood. The two reunite, and when RD attempts to apologize, Spike simply replies with a hug.
- Cut to the edge of the forest, with AJ having all the (remaining) sap ready for the market and nightfall almost upon them, the group are ready to go home. Spike goes back to give TB his antler, but TB tells him to keep it. He realizes he does not need it anymore, and he's fine with who he is.
- The two part ways, with fond farewells, as the moral of the story is spoken.
- "Dear Princess Celestia, today, I learned that many people have qualities to them that may make them feel different from others. But that doesn't mean you need to hide them to fit in. Because no matter what, you'll always have people that care for you, no matter how different you are."
- Fade to library, where Spike puts the Antler over his bed, so that he has something to remember Treebark by.
- Twilight smiles at this.
- "Your faithful student. Twilight Sparkle."

- Treebark - Treebark is a young colt at the age of the CMC's. He is curious due to his sheltered life, and finds himself going out to explore often, much to his father's dismay. Even so, he loves his deer family, even if he resents his Father's over protective nature at times.
- Redwood - Treebark's stoic father, he is a large Buck that seems to tower over the ponies. While he is usually calm, when his family is in danger, he can become overly stubborn, and quick to judge and quicker to act.
- Maple Leaf- Maple is Redwood's muse and flame. She is what can calm him down, and seems to have a good handle on her husband. Soft spoken, yet strong, Maple Leaf cares greatly for her family, but worries about him just as well as Redwood does.
- Notes: The Deer, in terms of culture, are fairly celtic in design and accent. They are not stereo-typically irish, but do have a hint of it in their voices and dialect. See Secret of Kelles for reference.
