  1. When Worlds Collide.
  2. Anon in Equestria on a scale unheard of.
  3.
  4. Prologue
  5.
  6. In the year 2020(earth dates), on the 15th November, at 10 am and 12 seconds precisely, a freak occurrence of nature and the universe caused an experiment with the Large Hadron Collider At CERN, in Meyrin, to have an unexpected result: a wormhole into another dimension. More precisely: to Equestria.
  7.
  8. This was made possible by a young pony named Twilight Sparkle, who, unbeknownst to her (or indeed anyone in the known universes) preformed a massive teleportation spell to transport six friends and herself from danger in the Everfree forest at the exact moment that two new, unknown particles previously undiscovered to Human science collided with enough force to split the materiel world apart.
  9.
  10. This is exactly what happened.
  11.
  12. Due to the high magic fallout from the young pony’s spell, the wormhole that had been unwittingly created on Earth ripped it’s way through the dimensions and opened in the forest, killing the timber wolves that were standing dumbfounded, staring at the spot where moments before, six ponies and a baby dragon had been cowering.
  13.
  14. While the ponies remained unaware of the wormhole for some time (blaming the magical disturbances and other wacky goings-on caused by its presence on other, more believable reasons. A visit from Discord, freed by the wormhole’s arrival, also served to distract from the real issue), humanity at once began to study the new phenomenon (after rebuilding the damage created by the wormhole). Study of this fantastic new accident reaped many rewards: technology saw a leap as new elements were discovered and put to use. A by-product of the wormhole was that it gave off huge amounts of energy. By 2025, this energy was harnessed, and by 2030, humanity had left behind the nuclear age, and began a new one: the Protonic age.
  15.
  16. Things were however, far from perfect. This new technology and its source sparked an arms race between the West and the East. Tensions between China and NATO grew and grew, and in 2032, North Korea, backed by China through arms sales and economic support, invaded through the 39th parallel and into South Korea. America and the rest of the UN immediately responded, and the 2nd Korean War began. It was a brutal, bloody affair. With tactics and warfare learned in the deserts of Iraq and Afghanistan years before rendered useless in the face of an organized Military force of enemies, more conventional warfare tactics were re-introduced. Over 3000 Korean, American, British and German tanks fought the largest tank battle in History, the Battle of Red River, for six days. Massed artillery barrages and static warfare became commonplace, mainly due to the North Korean’s Wave attacks, huge numbers, and fanaticism to the cause they fought for. The war continued on, and on, and showed no signs of abating. China, while not giving direct military support, kept the war going to divert NATO resources from the Wormhole project in Europe, while trying to create their own.
  17.
  18. At the same time as the 2nd Korean War was raging, Russia was going through wholesale change. Fundamentalist Russian Orthodox Christianity had been on the rise in recent years, and, in 2033, the people rose up against the government. The military was split on two, with the majority by this point, being part of the new religious fanaticism.
  19. The second Glorious Revolution succeeded and, on the 3rd of August, 2033, the new Russian Leader, Julian Demitov, was installed into office with a new title: Caesar. Soon, Russian Military units began to annex old soviet bloc countries, creeping ever closer to Western Europe and China. Already engaged in a massive conflict, and with no immediate threat to their interests, western powers did not interfere beyond economic sanctions. The new Holy Russian Empire was forming.
  20.
  21. By the year 2035, 15 years after it’s creation, the wormhole showed no signs of destabilising. Scientists hypothesised that there was something about its creation that was keeping it open: it should have collapsed within seconds of creation. They were of course, correct, but no one, not even the most radical of maverick scientists, would have guessed it was fuelled by magic.
  22.
  23. On the other side of the portal, the wormhole still lay undisturbed. Time worked differently on this side: while 15 years had passed on Earth, only 15 months had passed in Equestria. Ponies rarely went deep into the forest, and those that did stumble across it met a grisly fate: such was the magical energy being given off by the wormhole that any pony, or other animal from Equestria that had even the faintest Glimmer of magical energy themselves, that attempted to step through, or even get too near to, the portal were atomised, layer by layer, skin flayed from flesh, flesh sloughing from bone, before that too, crumbles into dust.
  24.
  25. Of course, magic did not exist on Planet Earth, so this magical energy was converted into the new elements and particles that sustained the wormhole and drove humankind’s technology forwards at an unknown rate. This also meant that humans could safely approach the wormhole. On November 7th, 2035, the science team were given the go-ahead to launch their experiment, codenamed by the UN military forces involved as Operation Enterprise.
  26. The science team would send 50 scientists, with equipment to set up a small field Laboratory, along with 120 military personnel. The Science team was an international one, spearheaded by the German scientist Herrmann Dietrich. The UN force, while spearheaded by the American navy seals, also contained SAS, as well as French and German Special forces.
  27.
  28. After sending in countless UAVS and other URVs, to no avail, the team were finally successful. Images of the everfree forest were transmitted through to Earth, and, soon after, the first Humans stepped through the portal.
  29.
  30. After setting up a beachhead, and confirming that the air was able to sustain human life, the rest of the science and military teams emerged. The scientists immediately began to set up their equipment, and soon the field lab was up and running. (The wormhole’s creation had left a large area of deforestation, perfect for setting up a base of operations) The military teams set up defensive positions and operations centres, before setting off in patrols with the science teams.
  31.
  32. Due to the sheer size of the forest, and the human’s caution at moving in this strange new world, it took two weeks for the humans to exit the forest. It was then, by a small abandoned hut by the outskirts of the forest, that humanity made first contact. Here, a section of SAS, led by corporal James Robson, and accompanied by a member of the science team, American born Dr. Sarah Bartlett, met three new, yet strangely familiar life forms.
  33.
  34. Princess Celestia had sensed something new and different had arrived in her kingdom, and had instructed her protégé, Twilight Sparkle, to investigate. It was she, along with her friends Fluttershy and Applejack, which met with the party of 9 humans on this historic day. The humans at first treated the small ponies with caution, even more so when the young purple unicorn introduced herself. To the team’s amazement, this young…unicorn spoke perfect English. The young ponies seemingly had no fear of the humans or the fearsome weapons they carried. After the initial contact, with both sides explaining their own amazing backgrounds, the human team radioed in their amazing discovery. The entire Human team moved out of the forest, leaving only a small science team and guard at the wormhole site. Twilight too, soon had almost the whole town (she called it ponyville) of local inhabitants out to see the “strange, tall creatures”
  35.
  36. Relations immediately started well, with both sides eager to learn from the other. Soon the country’s ruler, Princess Celestia was in attendance. It was on this day, the day of first contact, Earth date May 10th 2036, that Dr. Herrmann Dietrich spoke the immortal words:
  37.
  38.  “Humanity is no longer alone in our universe. We have much to learn about this new, amazing world and it’s peoples, and, through this new era of discovery and Friendship, I pray to god we learn more of ourselves”
  39.
  40. With Fighting still Raging in Korea, eastern Europe, and Africa, and Poverty and disease still rife in 3rd world countries, Dietrich’s greatest hope was that this Discovery would Galvanize humanity into a new era of world peace and understanding.
  41.
  42. At first, this is precisely what happened. When news reached the Earth Media of the experiments huge success, people around the world rejoiced. Peace talks were called and, by the end of 2036, the Korean Accord was signed, ending what had by then become the deadliest and most brutal war in humanity’s history. With over 100 million dead on both sides NATO forces were exhausted. This Accord brought them a much-needed respite.
  43. With the war at an end, the world’s attention turned from the war on Korea to the war on Poverty. Billions of Dollars in aid were pumped into the African continent, the Middle East, and Southeast Asia. The greatest minds of the age turned their attention from smarter bombs and experimental laser technology to HIV cures and GM crops. In 2038, a cure for HIV was perfected, and soon, it was flooding into Africa. What scientists had previously believed would be the 21st centuries own version of TB was, by 2040,almost eradicated. The world truly had moved into a new prosperous era.
  44.
  45. During these 5 years on Earth, only 5 months had passed in Equestria. News of the Earth’s new achievements reached the Exploration team and the Ponies continuously (The Time dilation had at first made Radio waves almost useless. However, the team was soon able to rectify the problem and it was now not an issue)
  46. As the war ended, and poverty was systematically eradicated, the ponies grew to love their new neighbours: they seemed so alike. The two peoples grew closer, and learned much from each other. While the ponies could not visit earth, the humans could come and go as they please, and as the science team continued to learn more and more about the world they had discovered, the Military teams slowly started to withdraw. Soon, of the 120 troops originally sent to Equestria, only 50 remained, a force of British and American troops.
  47.  There were several reasons for this; Commanders could see that no real military presence was needed: the locals were all incredibly friendly. Secondly, The French and German troops were needed at home: The Holy Russian Empire had been expanding since 2034, and was still slowly encroaching into Europe and Asia. The troops may soon be needed.
  48.
  49. The third reason that only the British and Americans remained seemed inconsequential, but would soon prove to be an important Factor in The Equestrian Situation: The ponies spoke English.
  50.
  51. The ponies had tried, when learning of the Earth’s different Languages, to learn French and German, but for some reason, even the most intelligent of ponies could not learn more than a few words. The young Ponies, known affectionately as fillies, fared much better than the adults. It was this strange quirk that led to scientist discovering the “Cutie Mark”. These symbols on the side of each grown pony’s flank, it was discovered, were not simply decorative, as they had assumed, but in fact showed a particular pony’s skill, or talent. Ponies saw human Tattoos as proof that Humans were intelligent creatures too, and the misconception at first was that humans who had more Tattoos were more Important. It took the ponies quite a while to get round the idea that Tattoos are chosen and can go anywhere on the body, and that humans could have as many as they wanted.
  52.
  53. The humans and ponies lived together in harmony, learning from each other in the greatest Cultural exchange since the Pilgrims met the Native Americans. The humans offered the ponies technology, medicine- everything that they could think of to improve the pony’s lives. They refused all offers, claiming all that they wanted from the humans was Friendship. While they had it unconditionally from those that were in Equestria, the same could not be said of all those on Earth.
  54.
  55. When Equestria was discovered in 2036, it caused international uproar amongst Fundamentalist religious groups. The discovery of another planet, and then, another intelligent species, basically disproved most major religions.
  56. Nowhere was this outrage and hatred of the Ponies more fervent than in Russia. Upon hearing of the new world, Russia had closed all it’s Borders and started an Isolationist policy. In 2039, it began broadcasting radio messages around the world:
  57.
  58. “All those true of faith in the Lord our god, rejoice. The Garden of Eden is remade.”
  59.
  60. This joyous quote was followed by an invitation: All Christians, no matter the creed, where being admitted to Russia. Millions of devout Christians worldwide answered the call, flocking to Russia in what became known as the “Pilgrim’s Crusade” a chilling foreshadowing of what was to come.
  61.
  62. Back in Equestria, The Humans had started to explore. They sent teams out further and further, until they left the borders of Equestria and Discovered new species. The Fearsome Griffons were the most notable and tragic of these meetings. First contact between humans and Griffons came, not through a cultural exchange, but when a young Griffon, mistaking the human party as prey, swooped down from a cloud and attacked the patrol. One Soldier was mauled before the griffon was brought down by gunfire.
  63. The gunfire drew the attention of more griffons, as well as some travelling sales ponies. The humans were instantly attacked by the griffons, managing to retreat back to Equestrian lands with their injured comrade without further harm. Upon hearing the news, Princess celestia quickly invited the King of the Griffons to talks, and crisis was averted once the king had heard all the humans and the princess had to say. Although the regrettable incident was put behind them, the griffon King, and his subjects, regarded the Humans with loathing and a grudging warrior’s respect from then on.
  64.
  65. In June 2041, Russia ceased all Communications with the outside world. Satellites monitoring the area found themselves being jammed, and the borders were heavily fortified with bunkers and minefields at all checkpoints.
  66. The empire, now spanning all the way from the Austrian, Czech, and Polish borders to the borders of China, went Silent. For 6years, not a single message was transmitted or intercepted, and not a single person left or entered. The blackout covered a huge portion of the planet. NATO and the Chinese grew more and more concerned, and in 2043, signed the Berlin Treaty, assuring mutual protection from a Russian Aggressor. Paranoia and fear were spreading throughout the world. A new Cold war had begun. NATO countries once again began to stockpile arms. As insurance, two entire Divisions of American Troops, and one more from Britain, were now guarding the Wormhole complex. More units started to be based in Germany, Austria, Italy and Scandinavia. An invisible Iron curtain was once again cutting Europe in half.
  67.
  68. Then, on November 7th, 2047, 12 years to the day that Operation Enterprise was launched, Russian tanks and other units smashed into Western Europe. Huge bomber formations took off from new airbases all along the borders of the empire, and, after 6 years of apparent slumber, the beast that was The Holy Russian Empire moved once more in what they called  “The Last Crusade”
  69.
  70. While the Attacks spread out in all directions from the Empire, it soon became clear that Caesar had one main Objective: To capture the wormhole and invade Equestria. All reserve units in the entirety of NATO were scrambled to protect it. Fortifications were strengthened, More troops drafted, and more experimental weapons that had been shelved since the 2nd Korean war were taken out from their labs. Soon, the greatest concentration of troops in History was gathered to protect the wormhole.
  71.
  72. The Russian Imperial army Smashed down upon the Wormhole complex like water against rock. Thousands on each side died in the first day of fighting. Despite heavy shelling and a massive advantage in numbers, The Russian troops could not breach the defences. Soon, siege warfare seemed the only option for the attackers, and so trenches were dug, artillery pieces brought forwards, and the Siege of Meyrin began.
  73. The defenders were numerous, and well supplied, so they felt they could sit it out and wait for reinforcements to relieve the siege. However, as the weeks turned to months, it soon became apparent that they were alone. While they had halted the Imperial army here, Elsewhere, NATO Forces were on the run. Russian troops were now fighting in southern Germany, Normandy, and Southern England, as well as Alaska and parts of Canada, India, and Israel. The world was on the brink.
  74.
  75. The humans in Equestria had been keeping in contact with those on Earth, and grew increasingly depressed as their comrade’s situation worsened. While the Ponies sympathised with their friends, they could not truly understand their sorrows: Equestria had never known conflict on such a scale before, and no pony had experienced armed conflict at all save Granny Smith, ponyville’s oldest inhabitant, who still remembered the Griffon wars. Indeed, apart from the changeling attack on Canterlot during the royal wedding, there hadn’t been any conflict what so-ever for most of Equestria’s ponies.
  76.
  77. At Meyrin, the situation was getting more and more desperate. Russian Troops had manages to fell one of the bunker walls, and now were flooding into the compound. NATO forces fought a desperate Rearguard as they fell back, but the enemy outnumbered them and they were losing too many men. Eventually, they had been pushed back to the wormhole bunker and its surrounding Trenches and emplacements. They still had over 3,000 men in the bunker complex, with another three or four hundred fighting and dying on the fortifications outside. But even those numbers were useless against the Slavic tides crashing over them. The beleaguered defenders had but one choice: Flee to Equestria.
  78.
  79. The Team in Equestria heard what was happening and rushed back to the wormhole entrance, now a primitively paved road to allow easier access. The scientists in the complex had been evacuated long ago (4 months in earth time) and all their equipment too. The remaining soldiers in Equestria called for all the Medical personnel to be ready to receive wounded, and waited for them to arrive.
  80.
  81. An hour later, the first troops began to come through the portal. It was a much different scene than any before. Covered in Grime, blood, and exhausted beyond belief, there was no wonder or amazement in their eyes as they came through the wormhole. Only the haunted look of those that have stared Death in the face one time to many.
  82. The ponyville ponies had come to help as well, but soon found themselves overwhelmed by the haggard humans: they had simply never seen suffering like this before. As more and more men came through the Wormhole, they became intimidated and scared: some of the humans were horribly wounded, screams of pain and anger frequently pierced the air.
  83. While the ponies had never been intimidated by armed men before, there was something unsettling about seeing so many at once. The ponies began to back away, thinking that they shouldn’t have come to the wormhole in the first place. But when one pony, known as Pinkie Pie, noticed a young boy sobbing quietly to himself, she couldn’t resist trying to help him. Other ponies began noticing distressed men and woman, and started to comfort them the best they could, easing the passing of those who could not go on, and strengthening those who had lost so much in the past few days.
  84.
  85. After a day of this, the flow of humans started to slow. Now, it was only the rearguard coming through. As the flow slowed to a stream, then a trickle, the last man staggered through… and a moment later a billowing cloud of debris, dust, and smoke followed him. The remains of the Scots Dragoon Guards, a British Cavalry Unit in Challenger 3 tanks, down to their last two squadrons, and remnants of the 1st Marine division (now less than company Strength) had opted to stay behind in a gallant last stand, collapsing the complex After the last group went through the wormhole, burying it in over 500 tonnes of rubble. They held the encroaching Russian troops off for another two days, before being overrun. Though both units were wiped out, they managed to get one last transmission through to NATO Command, telling them of the situation and their sacrifice. The last part of the message, sent by Lance Corporal John Seabourne, read:
  86.
  87. “Position is lost, sir. We’ve lost all the Tanks, only six crewman left of the Brits. We are down to 15 men. Ammo is low. But we’ve done it, held them off for long enough. *Static* Let them know what we’ve done, don’t forget us. *Static* Tell *Static* Here they come. (Background) Fix Bayonets! Fight till the last drop of blood! No Surrender! DIEDIE D--- *Static*“
  88.
  89. The men now stranded in Equestria listened to this message with a mixture of pride, horror, and deep, deep sorrow. They sat looking at one another, totally silent. The ponies two, sensed the terrible loss that the humans had just suffered.
  90.
  91. Suddenly, the radios all started squawking at once, the air filled with harsh, clipped tones.
  92. “What’s that noise?” Every pony asked.
  93. The Humans looked at one another, with tired, weary looks on their faces.
  94. “It’s Russian” Said newly promoted Sergeant Robson, leader of the Original Human teams.
  95. “What does that mean?” Pinkie Pie asked. Like most of the other ponies, she hadn’t really been able to understand all the goings-on that were happening on Earth, and, while they’d tried to understand and sympathise, didn’t really fully know what had been happening on Earth.
  96. “Is it Bad?” Pinkie asked.
  97. “Yes, It’s bad”
  98. “But what does it mean?” Asked Twilight Sparkle.
  99.  One of the survivors of the siege turned and looked at her straight in the eyes, and in that moment, Twilight Understood the full horror of what was happening. She knew, in that moment, exactly what it meant. The soldier spoke to her, in a hollow voice bereft of emotion.
  100.
  101. “The Crusade is coming”
