  169. ATLANTA - A federal judge has temporarily halted a sweeping law that would bar sex offenders from living near school bus stops.
  170. U-S  District Judge Clarence Cooper's ruling Monday applies only to the  eight plaintiffs in the federal lawsuit filed by the Southern Center for  Human Rights - including a Dahlonega woman, Janet Jenkins Allison.
  171. But  the civil rights lawyers say they are encouraged by his decision to  temporarily halt the law from going into effect on Saturday. The lawyers  had argued the law would make it nearly impossible for the state's  nearly eleven-thousand registered sex offenders to live in urban and  suburban areas.
  172. Lawyers for both sides will be back in court July  11, armed with evidence about the number of school bus stops in the  state and the impact on Georgia offenders.
