  1. Bay leaves
  2. Thyme
  3. Okra
  4. Garlic
  5. Flour
  6. Bacon grease (if you have it)
  7. An onion
  8. A bell pepper (preferably green)
  9. Andouille sausage
  10. Beef broth
  11. Chili peppers (dried, cajun style)
  12. Tomato sauce (for base)
  13. Crab meat
  14. Sausage
  15. Shrimp
  16. Roux
  17. Anchovies
  18.  
  19. Mix the bacon grease (or whatever oil you've got) with around a cup of flour and brown it over medium heat
  20. Mix your sauce or it's gonna burn
  21. Mince your veggies and add them to the roux
  22. Cut up your sausage as small as you like and add them
  23. Mix that around for a while (your discretion is key in this sort of thing)
  24. Add a few cups of beef broth to a pot and pour in the roux
  25. Mince (or puree) your chilis and add them
  26. Add sugar, salt, olda bay, and your tomato base (I prefer newmans, but it's generally best if you always have some
  27.  
  28. leftover red sauce in your fridge so you can always keep dishes going)
  29. Get anchovies, cut their heads and tails off, and puree them
  30. Add minced garlic to the puree
  31. Add that to the gumbo and stir
  32. Simmer for about an hour at low heat
  33. Fry your okra
  34. Add a little vinegar
  35. Toss in the okra with some crab meat, shrimps, and wocestershire
  36. And bam
  37. Gumbo
